The driver of an SUV plowed through a group of protesters during a “Black Lives Matters” march in southern Illinois on Sunday, July 10.
According to Carbondale police, at around 10 p.m., officers began to monitor demonstrators who began marching along Washington Street in Carbondale.
Police say they continued marching throughout the downtown streets, briefly assembled in front of the Carbondale Police Department, before returning to the Town Square Pavilion.
According to police, as they were returning to the pavilion, a vehicle tried to drive through the demonstrators in the 200 block of East Main Street while they were blocking traffic.

In the video, you see the driver stop his vehicle just before the protesters. The driver gets out of his vehicle and shouts at protesters.
“All lives matter, not blacks, all lives,” the driver said.
He then gets back into his vehicle, revs his engine and then speeds through the group.
As many as 100 protesters were setting off fireworks, chanting and marching through the streets of Carbondale, Ill. around 11 p.m. when the incident occurred.
Police say an unknown demonstrator was either hit by the passing vehicle, or jumped on the hood of the vehicle. They say the vehicle then drove off before stopping a block away.
The demonstrators followed the vehicle and surrounded it. Police say as the driver tried to get out of the vehicle, he was hit in the face by an unknown suspect.
Next, police say an unknown suspect ignited a smoke bomb inside of the victim's vehicle, causing it to fill with smoke. It was then towed from the area.
Officers with the Carbondale Police Department responded to break up the crowds.
Police say neither suspect has been identified. They say the driver had minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
According to Lieutenant Matt Dunning with the Carbondale Police Department, at this time, no one has been arrested and no charges have been filed pending an investigation of the incident.
We reached out to Carbondale's human relations commission chair, Jerrold Heinrich, who said there were wrongs and rights done on both sides; and now it's time to come together.
"I think that we saw a manifestation here in this video of not, of not the police and the community having relationship issues, but in fact that the community itself expressing polarized opinions," he said. "And I think that that's something that needs to be addressed more specifically."
Heinrich said it's time members get involved in their community and talk about ways to improve it.
He said he strongly believes in the first amendment right and only urges peaceful protests, and for others to respect that right.
Sunday night's demonstration was the second in a week in Carbondale where protesters brought issue to officer-involved shootings.
Organizers say they plan to march again at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, starting at the Town Square Pavilion.

I thought the whole point of a protest was an airing of grievances? So when a person shows up and wants to assist in airing your grievances by asking, "Why are you here?", you respond with chants of, "Get the fuck out of here!", and threats of physical violence.

Officials in Ohio have said it will be legal for protesters to carry weapons at demonstrations outside the convention under the state’s “open carry” laws. Several other groups, including some supporters of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, have said they will carry weapons in protests as well, leading to concerns about rival groups being armed in close proximity.
Nzinga said he expected “a couple hundred” members of the New Black Panther Party to join a black unity protest that is scheduled to be held on Thursday in Cleveland.

The New Black Panther Party is among the groups that have pledged to take advantage of Ohio's open-carry firearm laws prior to the Republican National Convention next week in Cleveland, according to a new report.

The chairman of the New Black Panther Party (NBPP), a black nationalist group founded in 1989 in Dallas, said that NBPP members will carry arms in Cleveland if Ohio is an open-carry state, which it is.
"If it is an open state to carry, we will exercise our second amendment rights because there are other groups threatening to be there that are threatening to do harm to us," Hashim Nzinga told Reuters in an exclusive interview.
"If that state allows us to bear arms, the Panthers and the others who can legally bear arms will bear arms."
Nzinga said "a couple hundred" NBPP members are expected to join a black unity protest on Thursday in Cleveland.
he NBPP is reputed to hold anti-Semitic and blanket anti-white views. The group has no connection to the original Black Panther Party, according to original members such as co-founder Bobby Seale, who has called NBPP "a black racist hate group,"according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Cleveland police have said it expects many people to be armed outside the Republican National Convention, where candidate Donald Trump is poised to be named the party's presidential nominee. Ohio does not require a license for a gun in order to openly carry, though a concealed handgun license is required to carry a loaded handgun in a motor vehicle.
Guns will not be allowed inside the convention, to be held at the Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland from July 18-21.

Cleveland is expected to be heavily policed during the RNC, with the likes of the Secret Service also patrolling the area. The city has been sued by the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio for instituting "event zone" restrictions on free speech and protest rights.
Right-wing militant groups such as Oath Keepers are also expected to be present and armed in Cleveland, contributing to the anxious feeling among Cleveland police officers and officials, especially following the Dallas sniper shootings last week.
“The last thing in the world we need is anybody walking around here with AR-15s strapped to their back,” Stephen Loomis, president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association, told the New York Times.
“And the absolute tragedy in Dallas is proof positive that we just cannot allow that to happen. I would really just beg these folks, just leave your guns at home. Come, say whatever it is that you want to say, make whatever point it is that you want to make, but it’s going to be very, very difficult to deal with the R.N.C. as it is.”
In the Reuters interview, the NBPP's Nzinga disavowed the sniper killing of five police officers in Dallas last week, calling the event a "massacre." He said the NBPP had no role in the shootings. Micah Johnson, the alleged lead suspect in the shootings who was killed by Dallas police, frequented black power demonstrations in Dallas.
"He was a Black Power supporter. Talking to comrades in Dallas, that's what it seemed like," Yahcanon, the People's New Black Panther Party's national minister of information, told the Dallas Morning News, adding that Johnson "had nothing to do with our party whatsoever."
According to the Daily Beast, Johnson was screened and later blacklisted by the NBPP and other black nationalist and liberation groups in the US given his discharge from the US Army for sexual harassment.
“Once you’re blacklisted by the alert that we put out, that’s a wrap,” Ken Moore, of the Collective Black People’s Movement, told The Daily Beast.

Per a Fox 25 Boston report, a picture of a young child giving a Springfield, MA police officer the finger has gone viral.
The child’s dad reportedly taught his son to give police officers the finger.
The photo was posted just days after two African-American men were killed by law enforcement and five Dallas, TX police were killed in an attack.
Sgt. John Delaney with the Springfield Police Department reacted to the picture, saying, “I would go and rescue that little boy if he was drowning, if he was in acar accident, if he was choking on something, and I would do that and not ask for thanks. And there are 400 other police officers in the city of Springfield that would do the same.”
According to Delaney, the Springfield Police Department has received “an outpouring of support. A large crowd of people reportedly joined together in a peaceful march to the Springfield federal courthouse.
“Over the last week, we’ve seen an outpouring of support from the public,” Delaney told Fox 25.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– March Eugene Ratney, according to Department of Correction records, wasn’t due to be released from prison until this past June 6 after serving half of a 12-year sentence following his conviction as a serious violent felon with a weapon. Ten days later, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers were called to an east side address where Ratney’s sister said he had pulled a gun and threatened to kill her.
Investigators now report, and neighbors confirmed, Ratney, on parole, was the man clad in a Black Lives Matter t-shirt and screaming profanities at police, who shot up an IMPD officer’s house not far from his own home early this morning.
The officer and his family were uninjured.
“Think about this, this is your home,” said IMPD Chief Troy Riggs. “If there is one place in this world where you should always feel safe and your family should feel safe, it is in your home.”
The officer had just returned from work, but had not yet retired for the night, when approximately 17 shots were fired from a 9mm handgun into his house, fence and patrol car.
Neighbors recalled seeing a man in a Black Lives Matter t-shirt that also had obscenities directed at police walking the neighborhood last Friday night.
A nearby surveillance camera captured images of a fleeing vehicle shortly after the shooting at 2 a.m.
Ratney was driving a similar car and was stopped a few blocks away within an hour.
During his interrogation at IMPD headquarters, Ratney denied the shooting but became irate, cursed the officers and urinated in the interview room.
At that time the interview was concluded.
The shooting follows the murders of five Dallas police officers during a Black Lives Matter rally last Friday which was called in response to the deaths of two black men in police action shootings in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
700 people attended a Black Lives Matter rally in Indianapolis Saturday and applauded the cooperation and protection of IMPD officers after the march.
“He is not a part of the movement and you can tell he’s not a part of the movement just in his approach to this whole issue,” said Muhammad Siddeeq of The Concerned Clergy after receiving a briefing at IMPD headquarters. “That movement is a movement trying to do positive things and peacefully resolve issues.

“We’re hurt that there would be such a vicious and callous attempt to terrorize a police officer’s home where his family and everyone is residing and we’re triply hurt when we see that he’s carrying a symbolic representation of an organization that he’s not representing in spirit or any other way.”
Riggs sent out a message to all of his officers reminding them of the dangers that present themselves both on duty and off to policemen and women and their families.
“We should continue to remind each other we need to remain alert and vigilant. It is imperative that we and our families have an action plan in case of (a) serious incident such as this.”
Riggs said his officers would maintain a heightened sense of awareness while patrolling downtown Indianapolis during this coming weekend’s Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration which always attracts tens thousands of people to the city’s central core as a similar mass gathering provided the opportunity for the Dallas gunman to open fire.
The chief also said he was communicating with IMPD’s community partners to advise them of the latest information regarding the shooting and to accept their condolences and offers of support in the aftermath of the incident.
Detectives searched the house where Ratney was living, as well as another house in the 700 block of North Euclid Avenue and another location, in search of the weapon used to fire on the officer’s home.
Two guns, as well as several shell casings at the shooting scene and at the rear of Ratney’s house were recovered.
Police also were intent on searching Ratney’s car.
The targeted officer told FOX59 that he was quite familiar with Ratney, having arrested him on a gun charge several years ago.
Ratney, 27, may be charged again as a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm and could be prosecuted federally.
He reportedly told detectives he was a, “two-time loser,” indicating previous prison sentences, and challenged them to charge him again.
IMPD reports it recommended revocation of Ratney’s parole after the June 16 complaint.
The Indy FOP released the following statement in regards to the shooting:
Our collective police membership is concerned about this incident. We have reached out to the officer involved to ensure the officer and their family have all the resources they need at this time.
Like any attack on on our police, we must accurately account for the facts so that we may have a complete investigation to better understand how this occurred and hopefully prevent such incidents in the future.
In the interim, we continue our call for mandated reporting of assaults on law enforcement officers. Currently only 57% of police agencies report these statistics to a national database.
We look forward to working with our elected leaders in Indiana and at the federal level in the coming days to enact such legislation and we call upon residents to join us in these enhancement efforts.
Law is the safeguard of freedom, when those who swear to uphold the law fall under attack it threatens the fabric of our society.

Tuscaloosa police are investigating a July 12, 2016 burglary at Guns & Ammo in which dozens of handguns and long guns were taken. (Ben Flanagan)
At least three dozen guns were stolen early this morning during a break-in at a Tuscaloosa gun shop.
The burglary happened about 4 a.m. and Guns & Ammo LLC on Greensboro Avenue. Sources tell AL.com roughly 25 handguns and 10 to 15 long guns, including AR-15's, were taken. At least five suspects are believed to have been involved.
Store officials declined to comment on the burglary, pending the ongoing investigation.
Tuscaloosa police Lt. Teena Richardson confirmed the break-in but said she couldn't discuss the number of items taken. She said the shop's video surveillance footage showed several black male suspects enter the business and remove the guns before they exited the rear of the of store.
A passerby told police he heard a loud crash and when he looked toward the business, he saw five to six suspects going in and out of the shop before fleeing the scene in a white vehicle.
Officers spotted a white Chevrolet Express van with the engine running and damage tot he ignition switch and bumper parked nearby, Richardson said. Investigators determined the van recovered near the scene had been stolen from a cleaning business on Skyland Boulevard.

Those That Wanted To Get Prepared Have Already Gotten Prepared By Now

Is the time for warning people to prepare for what is ahead coming to an end? For years, bold men and women all over America have been sounding the alarm and warning people to get prepared physically, financially, mentally, emotionally and spiritually for the great storm that is rapidly approaching. Personally, I have written more than 2,500 articles on my primary two websites combined, and so nobody can accuse me of not blowing the trumpet. It has gotten to the point that sometimes I am even tired of listening to myself warn the people. But now we are shifting into a new phase.
The other day I was reflecting on some of the things that I have been hearing lately. Sales of emergency food and supplies are way down across the entire industry. Many organizations and websites that have been instrumental in sounding the alarm for a long time are really struggling right now. On my websites, traffic has hit a bit of a plateau after experiencing a tremendous surge late last year. Overall, “prepping” was very hot just a few years ago, and at one time it was estimated that there were approximately three million “preppers” in the United States. But these days there seems to be a tremendous amount of apathy out there.
As I reflected on all of this, I came to one inescapable conclusion.
Those that wanted to get prepared have already gotten prepared by now, and those that did not want to get prepared are not likely to do so any time soon.
I personally know a lot of people that are very, very prepared and have been for a long time. Yes, there is still a small minority of people out there that only recently woke up and started prepping, but overall most of the preparation that people wanted to do has already been completed. And for those that have not done anything to prepare, you could argue with them until the moon turns to cheese and they still won’t take any action.
At this point the die has been cast. Most of those that felt that they should prepare have already prepared. Most of those that felt that they should repent have already repented. Most of those that felt that they should warn America have already sounded the alarm.
So now all that is left is to wait for the shaking to begin.
In looking back at what has transpired over the last several years, I think that it would be appropriate to say something about the failure of the church in America.
You see, if the churches of America were doing their job, all of the “watchmen” out there would not even be needed. Our voices would simply be lost in a chorus of thousands upon thousands of pastors, teachers, ministers and evangelists boldly warning people about what is coming to this nation.
But instead, there is just deafening silence coming from most of the mainstream churches.
The sad thing is that many, many church leaders understand very clearly what is coming, but they have purposely chosen not to warn the people. Some time ago, George Barna conducted a study that looked into why our churches are not addressing the key issues of the day, and what he discovered was absolutely astounding…
“‘What we’re finding is that when we ask them about all the key issues of the day, [90 percent of them are] telling us, ‘Yes, the Bible speaks to every one of these issues,” he explained. “Then we ask them: ‘Well, are you teaching your people what the Bible says about those issues?’ and the numbers drop…to less than 10 percent of pastors who say they will speak to it.”
Most churches in America don’t want to talk about the hard things, because they desperately want to make people feel comfortable. They want to entertain people and make them happy so that they will come back week after week and drop their money into the offering plate.
When it comes to defining success as a church, Barna found that there were five primary factors that were important to the majority of pastors, and none of them had anything to do with repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ…
“There are five factors that the vast majority of pastors turn to,” he outlined. “Attendance, giving, number of programs, number of staff, and square footage.”
Sadly, most Christians in America actually prefer these lukewarm churches, and the Apostle Paul warned that these times were coming nearly 2000 years ago. The following is what 2 Timothy 4:3-4 says in the Modern English Version…
3 For the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine, but they will gather to themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, having itching ears, 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn to myths.
You may not want to hear this, but the majority of churches in America have already gone apostate, and that is the truth.
We are slowly but surely losing an entire generation of Americans, and yet our dead and dying churches just continue to slumber. I shared the following numbers in a previous article, but they bear repeating.
Millennials – especially the youngest Millennials, who have entered adulthood since the first Landscape Study was conducted – are far less religious than their elders. For example, only 27% of Millennials say they attend religious services on a weekly basis, compared with 51% of adults in the Silent generation. Four-in-ten of the youngest Millennials say they pray every day, compared with six-in-ten Baby Boomers and two-thirds of members of the Silent generation. Only about half of Millennials say they believe in God with absolute certainty, compared with seven-in-ten Americans in the Silent and Baby Boom cohorts. And only about four-in-ten Millennials say religion is very important in their lives, compared with more than half in the older generational cohorts.
Those numbers are absolutely horrifying. Yes, there are still a few really good churches scattered across the country. But overall, the church in America is in really sorry shape, and the numbers don’t lie. Christianity is in rapid decline in the United States, and somebody better wake up and start doing something about it.
Over the years, I can’t tell you how many dead churches that I have sat in. That is why it is so refreshing when I actually find one where the gospel is preached and where people truly love one another. I have had the privilege of sharing my message in such a church in recent months, and I wish that there were a lot more of them out there.
Unfortunately, most ministers in America are really busy doing things other than what they should be doing. For instance, have you ever heard of “clergy response teams”? If you can believe it, the government has actually recruited ministers to help the population accept martial law when it is declared someday. The following comes from KSLA News…

For the clergy team, one of the biggest tools that they will have in helping calm the public down or to obey the law is the bible itself, specifically Romans 13. Dr. Tuberville elaborated, “because the government’s established by the Lord, you know. And, that’s what we believe in the Christian faith. That’s what’s stated in the scripture.”
I don’t know about you, but I found that article to be extremely chilling.
But this is the state of things in America today. We have a dead church that is stuffed to the gills with dead ministers, and the people are not being told the truth about the great shaking that is coming to America.
And when the great shaking comes, there will be multitudes of these dead churches and ministries that will go under and never rise again.
Meanwhile, God will be raising up a Remnant, and that Remnant is going to shake the world.

Although the radical left has days of protests planned and has a history of protests, the Cleveland police has issued a stand down order to officers, I can exclusively report.
Remember when thugs from the left attacked Trump supporters at his San Jose rally? The San Jose mayor and police chief claimed it would have been “too dangerous” for officers to do their jobs by defending Trump supporters.
That same “logic” is being applied by Cleveland officials, who have given up on even trying to control the radical left.

The alliance between jihadists and the opportunistic, violent movement Black Lives Matter has already been addressed on Jihad Watch, and the role of the Nation of Islam was discussed. Jihadists — violent and stealth — will use any and every opportunity to gain ground. They are particularly “good” at soliciting and manipulating angry youth – from every class and race – who are misfits or underdogs looking for a sense of purpose and personal power.
The victimology narrative is a prerequisite for joining the ranks of jihadists, and look which group is featured below promoting Black Lives Matter: the unindicted co-conspirator to terrorism financing, CAIR.

In a speech delivered to the Annual MAS-ICNA (Muslim American Society and Islamic Circle of North America) Convention in December 2015, Nihad Awad, the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), urged Muslim Americans to take up the cause of Black Lives Matter. “Black Lives Matter is our matter,” he said; “Black Lives Matter is our campaign.”
At the same conference, Khalilah Sabra, another activist, told the Muslim audience, “Basically you are the new black people of America… We are the “community that staged a revolution across the world. If we could do that, why can’t we have that revolution in America?” “That revolution” is apparently a reference to the “Arab Spring” revolutions which were inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood and which brought death and destruction to wide swaths of the Middle East and North Africa.
Do CAIR and other activist groups merely want to support Black Lives Matter, or do they hope to recruit blacks to their own cause?
In 2014, ISIS used the protests and clashes in Ferguson, Missouri as an opportunity to attempt to recruit blacks to radical Islam. But ISIS is a known terrorist organization while CAIR, despite its shady history, is considered by many to be a moderate, mainstream Muslim organization. Thus, if it wanted to convert blacks, it would presumably want to convert them to a moderate version of Islam.
Or would it?
According to Paul Sperry and David Gaubatz, the authors of Muslim Mafia, the supposedly moderate CAIR acts like an underworld cospiracy. In fact, it (along with numerous other prominent Muslim groups) was named by a U.S. court as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorist funding case. In addition, CAIR has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates. Moreover, CAIR is a direct outgrowth of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is also listed as a terrorist group by the UAE, as well as by Egypt and Saudi Arabia. That’s the same Muslim Brotherhood that fomented the “Arab Spring” revolutions, the likes of which Khalilah Sabra wants to bring to America.
The move to bring black Americans into the Islamic fold actually predates CAIR and ISIS by quite a few generations. Black Muslim organizations such as Louis Farrakhan’s The Nation of Islam have been recruiting blacks to their unorthodox brand of Islam for decades. The vast majority of blacks have resisted the temptation to join, perhaps because of NOI’s overt racism, its anti-Semitism, and its criticism of Christianity. In any event, it seems that the Black Muslim movement is being gradually displaced by traditional Sunni Islam. That’s because Sunni Islam has a much better claim to legitimacy—it being a worldwide religion that traces its roots back not to a 1930s Detroit preacher named Wallace Fard Muhammad, but to a seventh century prophet named Muhammad.
Will Islam catch on with black Americans? A great many blacks in America have a strong commitment to Christianity, which serves to act as a buffer against conversion to Islam. Still, it’s likely that Islam will make more inroads into the black community than it has in the past. For one thing, traditional Islam doesn’t have the “kook” factor which keeps most blacks at a distance from The Nation of Islam. The NOI belief system includes giant space ships, an evil scientist who created a race of “white devils,” and, most recently, an embrace of Dianetics….

Republican Convention To Get Hit Next? FBI And DHS Warn Of ‘Violence’ And ‘Terror’ At The RNC

After what just happened in Nice, France, officials are likely even more concerned about the potential for violence and terrorism at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland next week. Details are still coming in as I write this article, but what we know so far is that a 31-year-old Tunisian man plowed his truck into a huge crowd that was gathered along the waterfront for a fireworks display during Bastille Day celebrations in the French city of Nice, and he reportedly shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ at the police before they shot him dead. His rampage of death reportedly lasted for two kilometers before he was finally stopped, and dozens have been killed. This comes on the heels of the massacre of five police officers in Dallas, and that came not too long after the worst mass shooting in U.S. history in Orlando. Clearly we have entered a time when the usual rules don’t apply anymore. So will the Republican National Convention be the next target to get hit?
Both the Republican and the Democratic conventions have been designated as “National Special Security Events”. What this means is that the Secret Service will be running security at those venues. It is being projected that 50,000 people will attend the Republican convention, and in addition to that there will likely be tens of thousands of protesters.
So needless to say, this will represent a big, juicy target for anyone that wants to make some sort of a statement.
We have already seen tremendous violence at Trump rallies in recent months, and there is no reason to think that the Republican convention will be any different. The radical left dislikes Donald Trump with a passion, and many leftist organizations have already stated that they plan to show up in Cleveland in force.
As emotions run high, could something go terribly wrong?
On Thursday, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and FBI Director James Comey both told Congress that they are extremely concerned…
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and FBI Director James Comey told lawmakers on Thursday that they were preparing their agencies for the possibility of violence, both from unruly demonstrators and terrorists, at the upcoming Republican and Democratic nominating conventions.
It is likely that we are going to see more security at these conventions than we have ever seen before. In fact, Johnson told Congress that DHS will be sending approximately 3,000 agents to each of the conventions…
“I am concerned about the prospect of demonstrations getting out of hand,” Johnson said. “I am concerned about the possibility of violence. We have, within DHS, some 3,000 personnel that will be dedicated to the security of the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National convention, each.”
And Comey told Congress that he is particular concerned about the potential for “domestic terrorism”…
Comey told the committee that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was monitoring the threat of violence at the conventions “very, very carefully.”
“Anytime there is a national spotlight on a political event in the United States, there is a risk that groups that aspire to do just that, engage in acts of domestic terrorism, will be attracted,” Comey said.
Of course the feds are not just sitting back and waiting for next week to roll around. As you read this article, they are actively “monitoring social media” and “tracking protest groups” in anticipation of what might happen…
Law enforcement agencies are monitoring social media posting and tracking protest groups such as Black Lives Matter, which have disrupted Trump rallies over the past several weeks. The Secret Service is even using its Twitter account to warn users about their commentary. The agency tweeted recently, “Watch what you say on Social Media!” with a link to a news story about how agents visited a man who joked about sending a bomb when Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders were visiting his region.
For one, I am certainly glad that I am not going to be in Cleveland next week. The security is going to be absolutely suffocating, but no level of security can stop a deranged individual that is absolutely determined to kill people and that is not afraid to die. As we have seen, it only takes a few moments for a gunman to start mowing down those around him or for a crazed lunatic to plow a truck into a crowd of people.
And one thing we do know is that there will be lots of guns in Cleveland. Some of the protesters have already announced that they plan to bring guns with them, and many of those attending the convention will be bringing guns as well…
As the Republican convention in Cleveland approaches, several delegates from Pennsylvania who support Donald Trump say they are planning on bringing their guns with them to the GOP gathering. Why? They say they are worried about possible violent protest and even an attack from ISIS.
James Klein, a pro-Trump delegate from the Harrisburg area, notes that guns won’t be needed inside the convention hall and that delegates won’t be allowed to bring in weapons. “But,” he adds, “there’s the hotels. There’s going to be dinners.”
We may get a preview of coming attractions during the nationwide “Day of Rage” protests on Friday. There are supposed to be protests in more than 30 cities, and they have been much hyped. We shall see if they amount to anything or if they just fizzle out.
Regardless, it is clear that we have entered a time of increased violence. After what just happened in France, people all over the world are going to think twice before gathering for any sort of large public event. A huge crowd is an enticing target for any aspiring terrorist, and it is inevitable that we are going to see more attacks of this nature.
The era of the free and open society is ending. As the violence and terror get progressively worse, our liberties and freedoms will be increasingly restricted, and we will be told that this is for our own good.
Of course this has already been happening since 9/11, but now we have entered a time when this process is going to accelerate significantly.

Recently, I have made some pretty charged statements about Black Lives Matter. In a nutshell, I have argued that the organization is not a pro-black civil rights group. Instead, it is an anti-white anti-free speech mob. Evidence of my contention isn’t very hard to gather. In fact, you have to have your head buried pretty deep in the ground in order to miss it. Consider the following examples:
-In August of 2015, Black Lives Matter protestors overtook a Bernie Sanders event in Seattle. They physically stormed the stage and demanded that they be heard lest they shut the event down altogether. They actually shouted, “Your event will be shut down” as they yelled in the faces of those who were rightfully there speaking. They finally strong-armed the Sanders campaign into relinquishing their First Amendment right to speak – not by using reason but instead by using physical intimidation to take over the stage.
-In the fall of 2015, the Mizzou “safe space” controversy made national headlines. When journalists tried to film their protest, a now-infamous Black Lives Matter activist/professor asked for some “muscle” to physically intimidate members of the press, who were simply seeking to exercise their First Amendment rights on public property. The protestors gleefully complied and strong-armed the reporters.
-In the spring of 2016, pro-lifers at Purdue sponsored an “All Lives Matter” event denouncing the disproportionate abortion of black babies. Black Lives Matter protestors denounced them as racists, shouted them down, and demanded that they apologize – simply for exercising their free speech rights. Predictably, the Purdue pro-life pansies complied and even apologized to the activists for the “crime” of exercising their own civil rights.
-Soon after that, Black Lives Matter thugs stormed the stage while Milo Y-Can’t-I-Pronounce-His-Last-Name was giving a speech at DePaul University. One of the protestors actually assaulted Milo – although he did not strike him hard enough to mess up his fabulously moussed and highlighted hairdo. Muscle trumped free speech on that particular occasion. The thugs then rallied to prevent Milo from coming back to campus later. In other words, they went from physical restraint all the way to prior restraint of free speech.
-Earlier this summer, protestors stormed a stage where LGBT activists were trying to hold a vigil for those slain in the Orlando nightclub massacre. Without any sense of irony, the Black Lives Matter spokesperson began lecturing the audience – but only after expressing apprehension over the fact that most people in the audience were white. For the record, the Orlando shooter was not white, although many of his victims were.
As a free speech advocate, I can say without equivocation that I have never witnessed a more consistently censorious group than Black Lives Matter. Disrupting speech is not just a sideshow for them. It is the principal political tactic of the notorious uncivil wrongs group. It is their primary method of drawing attention to their cause because they lack the intellectual fortitude to persuade people to listen based on the content of their arguments.
It is difficult to avoid noticing the common thread when Black Lives Matter charges podiums, assaults speakers, and rips microphones out of speaker's hands. That common thread is not the subject matter of the speeches. It is the skin color of the speakers. The group does not censor its targets because of their political views, or their religion. Nor is their targeting based on the speakers’ sexual orientation. They select people on the basis of their race in order to accost them for their true crime, which is simply talking while white.
The problem for such racist extremists is that these tactics eventually backfire. By targeting white people with physical assaults and intimidation, they merely reinforce the racist stereotype that blacks are aggressive, assaultive, and violent. It is worth noting that such stereotypes are the alleged causes of black deaths at the hands of white cops in the first place. One might be tempted to say that the group renders itself useless by reinforcing the very notions against which they claim to be fighting.
Of course, to say that Black Lives Matter is useless is an undeserved compliment. They are far worse than useless. By running the police out of black neighborhoods, they are ensuring that black on black violence increases. Predictably, as the slaughter of black males increases, the problem of black fatherlessness increases. Consequently, every single negative social indicator skyrockets along with it. They are therefore destroying far more than their own credibility with their tactics. They are destroying their own communities and helping to kill their own neighbors.
Watching this whole sad, pathetic episode in progressive black history makes it abundantly clear that the principal problem in their community is not white racism. It is black culture. That is why it is imperative that we keep black racists from hijacking the national conversation and thereby keeping our attention focused on imaginary problems, rather than real ones.
True civil rights leaders have always understood that the remedy for injustice is more speech, not less. That is the reason why Martin Luther King succeeded. It is why Black Lives Matter racists will be nothing more than a sad footnote in the dark history of progressive intolerance.

A small update that that reminded me to post... Don't buy from that Amazon seller. They sent me the 2oz ones, even showed the 2oz ones on the invoice. Sent a message to them asking them to clear it up. 2 business days later, nothing. Filed a claim on Amazon and this evening I miraculously get a reply that they're going to "check our warehouse on monday and let you know. Don't worry if there is any difference, we will reimburse you the difference." They drop-shipped them from a LEO supply shop. I know because I got the FedEx shipping notification from the LEO supply shop in MI or WI and not this "My Dream Home"/JBJ Trading in CA.
None of which really helps because I ordered 5oz grenades because that's what I needed. 2oz are likely fine indoors but would probably be inadequate outdoors. Also, pretty unlikely that the 2oz are less than half the price so, I've ended up paying more than I would have for something I've got no use for.

How Saul Alinsky Taught Barack Obama Everything He Knows About Civic Upheaval

Throughout Barack Obama’s campaign for the presidency and his subsequent time in that office, two things have been said again and again: 1. He has a grudge against America. 2. He takes his marching orders from Saul Alinsky (1909-1972), particularly as encapsulated in the book “Rules for Radicals.”
Anyone who listens to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Mark Levin regularly is going to hear point one frequently. For all three men, to the chagrin of their critics, have relentlessly warned Americans that Obama believes it’s time for this country to eat a little humble pie: that it’s time to put away talk of America the exceptional and bring on America the apologetic.
As Limbaugh in particular has said:
Obama has a chip on his shoulder about [this] country. He doesn’t think of it as great…He thinks of it as criminal in many ways, as guilty in many ways. He thinks our superpower status was the result of a theft [of the] resources and ideas from other nations all over the world…And I think Obama wants the people of this country to find out what it’s like to live the way he thinks we have forced other people around the world to live.
So there’s point one: the assertion that Obama has a grudge against this country. And this leads to point two, and the question of what role Mr. Alinsky’s writings and overthrow tactics have had on our president. (By “overthrow tactics” I mean Alinsky’s methods for not only persuading but also enabling the “have-nots” in our society to overthrow the haves and take away their power.)
In a National Review column, dated May 14, 2009, we see that “Obama’s mentors from his Chicago days studied at a school Alinsky founded, and they taught their students the philosophy and methods of one of the first ‘community organizers.'” That same column cites a photo that was on Obama’s presidential campaign website: a photo that showed “Obama in a classroom teaching students Alinskian methods.” It showed Obama standing in front “of a blackboard on which he’d written ‘Relationships Built on Self Interest,’ and illustrated by a diagram of the flow of money from corporations to the mayor.”
His immersion in Alinsky’s teachings is certain from the scenario relayed in National Review. And anyone who’s read “Rules for Radicals” and noted the number of times “change” and some variant of “community organizer” appear may have even asked themselves: Did Barack Obama write this book? Of course he didn’t. But his language and actions so perfectly mirror the language of Alinsky and the actions Alinsky promoted that it’s hard to tell the one community organizer-turned-president from the other community organizer-turned-cult hero.
For example, from “Rules for Radicals,” consider Alinsky’s words of wisdom for emerging community organizers:
[You must help] the people in the community…feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and chance the future. [An] organizer must shake up the prevailing patterns of their lives–agitate, create disenchantment and discontent with the current values, to produce, if not a passion for change, at least a passive, affirmative, non-challenging climate. [You must] fan the embers of hopelessness into a flame of fight.
These are the kinds of things Obama was reading when he poured through the pages of “Rules for Radicals,” and these are the kinds of things he would have been taught by the community organizers who trained him. And what have Obama’s tactics as President been to this point, if not tactics of playing one class against another to raise levels of frustration and of creating the very disenchantment about which Alinsky wrote, in order to nurture a passion for change?
Alinsky taught him well. And Alinsky’s son was the first to admit it, when he wrote a letter to the Boston Globe in praise of Barack Obama following the 2008 Democrat National Convention:
Barack Obama’s training in Chicago by the great community organizers is showing its effectiveness. It is an amazingly powerful format, and the method of my late father always works to get the message out and get the supporters on board. When executed meticulously and thoughtfully, it is a powerful strategy for initiating change and making it really happen. Obama learned his lesson well.

Massacre of Cops in Baton Rouge

CLEVELAND -- In what is becoming a depressingly regular occurrence in the Obama era, police officers were murdered by a black militant in a shootout in Baton Rouge on Sunday, apparently in revenge for the recent police-involved death of black career criminal Alton Sterling outside a Baton Rouge food store.
At time of writing, three police officers had succumbed to the injuries they suffered in Louisiana's capital city. Another three were wounded.
Of course, murdering police officers has long been encouraged by activists with the Marxist, anti-American, revolutionary Black Lives Matter cult, with the support of the activist Left and financing from speculator George Soros. A year ago Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who openly advocates the mass murder of whites, called for “10,000 fearless men” to “rise up and kill those who kill us.” Like many radicals, Farrakhan mischaracterizes Black Lives Matter as a rising civil rights movement.
President Barack Hussein Obama, who a decade ago promoted inter-racial warfare in Kenya, has long tried to provoke civil unrest here in the U.S. with his hateful anti-cop rhetoric and his relentless demonization of opponents. His goal is fundamental transformation of the United States. A Red diaper baby who identifies violence-espousing communist Frantz Fanon as an intellectual influence, he has also steadfastly refused to condemn Black Lives Matter. In fact Obama has lavished attention on the movement’s leaders and invited them to the White House over and over again.
The Baton Rouge attack came 10 days after a black militant murdered five Dallas area police officers, the deadliest attack on U.S. law enforcement since Sept. 11, 2001.
A few days later Obama flew to Dallas and attended a memorial service at which he lectured the dead officers' relatives about how racist and brutal police officers are. The very next day Obama hosted leaders of Black Lives Matter, whose members urge the murder of cops, at the White House.
The Baton Rouge attack came 12 days after local police killed homeless recidivist Sterling during an altercation. Sterling, who had reportedly threatened a passer-by with a gun, violently resisted arrest and tried to grab a policeman's gun.
The shooter in Baton Rouge was killed by police following an exchange of gunfire outside a fitness center. He has been identified as Gavin Eugene Long, who claimed to have been a member of Nation of Islam. He also reportedly turned 29 yesterday.
Long was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marines in 2010. A fervent racist, he ranted against "crackers," the Daily Caller reports.
Long, who also used the name Cosmo Ausar Setepenra, talked about the Dallas massacre and recent police shootings of black men in social media posts, according to Heavy. “Violence is not THE answer (its [sic] a answer), but at what point do you stand up so that your people dont [sic] become the Native Americans…EXTINCT?,” he tweeted July 13.
Referring to the death of Alton Sterling, he said, "If I would have been there with Alton -- clap," Long said in a July 14 video. In the video he also discussed black liberation theology and said he wrote a book.
"I wrote it for my dark-skinned brothers," he said of the book.
"If you look at all the rebels like Black Panthers, Huey P. Newton, Malcolm X ... Elijah Muhammad, they was light-skinned. But we know how hard y'all got it."
In another video, Long justified his fellow ex-soldier and black militant Micah X. Johnson's killing of cops in Dallas. "It's justice, you know what I'm saying," Long said.
Long may also have telegraphed his plans in a cryptic Twitter post early Sunday morning. He wrote, "Just [because] you wake up every morning doesn't mean that you're living. And just [because] you shed your physical body doesn't mean that you're dead."
The officers Long killed are Brad Garafola, 45, Matthew Gerald, 41, and Montrell Jackson, 32.
Jackson, a black man, had poignantly sounded a note of despair in a Facebook post July 8, three days after Sterling's death at the hands of police and as racial tensions ramped up in Baton Rouge and across the nation.
"I'm tired physically and emotionally. Disappointed in some family, friends, and officers for some reckless comments but hey what's in your heart is in your heart. I still love you all because hate takes too much energy but I definitely won't be looking at you the same. ... I swear to God I love this city but I wonder if this city loves me. In uniform I get nasty hateful looks and out of uniform some consider me a threat. I've experienced so much in my short life and these last 3 days have tested me to the core. When people you know begin to question your integrity you realize they don't really know you at all."
President Obama commented on the killings but he seemed strange, playing against type. He sounded like a president who actually cared about his countrymen.
"These attacks are the work of cowards who speak for no one. They right no wrongs. They advance no causes. The officers in Baton Rouge; the officers in Dallas – they were our fellow Americans, part of our community, part of our country, with people who loved and needed them, and who need us now – all of us – to be at our best."
Finally Obama sounded kind of presidential. But anyone who follows Obama knows it won't last. He'll undercut these remarks with cheap agitprop soon as he lectures Americans and especially cops on how racist they are.
Oh wait! He already did.
Breitbart reported yesterday that the Obama White House formally denied a petition with 141,444 signatures gathered in just 10 days to “formally recognize Black Lives Matter as a terrorist organization,” a designation this writer proposed in a recent FrontPage article.
The government doesn't designate domestic terrorist organizations, was the official weaselly reply from those who process the petitions.
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump wasted no time correctly blaming Obama for the climate of racial hatred and violence.
"We grieve for the officers killed in Baton Rouge today," Trump wrote on Facebook. "How many more law enforcement and people have to die because of a lack of leadership in our country? We demand law and order."
We can only hope President Obama will have the basic personal decency to stay away from memorial services for the slain Baton Rouge officers. They don't need our Marxist president rubbing more of his cop-hating filth in their faces.
But no one has ever accused Obama of putting decency above politics.
Meanwhile, Obama's ideological soulmates from Black Lives Matter showed up at a protest in Cleveland on Saturday near the Republican National Convention that officially convenes today.
Speakers included New Black Panther Party leader Malik Zulu Shabazz and Cornel West, a tenured militant black pseudo-intellectual. Shabazz called Trump “an uncouth racist,” adding Hillary Clinton “isn’t that much better.” Clinton will “just kill you nicely.”
At a Sunday event West called Trump a "neo-fascist catastrophe."
Black militancy will play a huge role at the Democrats' nominating convention that starts a week from today in Philadelphia. It will reportedly be headlined by the mothers of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown (respectively, Sybrina Fulton and Lezley McSpadden), two young black thugs killed by white men in self-defense.
This makes sense. After all, the Democratic National Committee has expressly endorsed Black Lives Matter.

More than two weeks ago – before the massacre of police in Dallas – Breitbart Texas reported a warning from the president of the Cleveland police union, Steve Loomis. Cops and convention-goers, said Loomis, will be “sitting ducks” at the Republican National Convention, which begins on 18 July, a week from Monday, at Quicken Loans Arena.
Loomis and the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association were worried that the city leadership hasn’t been taking the acknowledged threat of large scale rioting seriously.
The police union head charges that the mayor of Cleveland “just does not get it.” He adds that “Command staff has arrogantly dismissed concerns of officials from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).”
The hope of augmentation from police departments across the country hasn’t materialized, in spite of a $50 million special-event grant from the federal government to cover things like deployment expenses.
Problems include the fact that riot gear for the police force was ordered very late – and apparently, when Lana Shadwick reported on 22 June, had still not arrived in Cleveland. (Philadelphia’s police, by contrast, have had their riot gear for the Democratic convention for seven months. That allows them to train with it and adjust it for fit and functionality.)
Issues with expenses – ordering riot gear, getting insurance and deployment compensation for augmentee forces – may well have been related to a strange interlude with the federal special-event grant early in 2016.
The Breitbart report seemed to indicate that the funding was awarded under the auspices of Homeland Security, with the RNC designated as a “special security event.” But it was actually sought and awarded as a “justice assistance” grant for law enforcement, to be administered by the Justice Department.
The convention funding was included in the federal Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants program, which provides funding for local law enforcement. U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman have pushed for the convention funding. Geauga County Republican Congressman Dave Joyce, as a member of House Appropriations Committee that wrote the spending bill, also was actively involved with the legislative effort.
In the first week of February, the Justice Department blindsided everyone involved by deciding to release the funds to the state of Ohio, instead of to the city of Cleveland. If local officials or the media ever figured out why, there’s no record of it that I can find. It took intensive lobbying by the state’s congressional delegation to get DOJ to go ahead and award the funds to the city, as originally expected.
There’s a reason this little event is so interesting. Cleveland isn’t just any city, as it relates to the U.S. Department of Justice. Cleveland’s police force has been under the ministrations of the DOJ Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Office, since this small entity’s earliest days (it was established under Bill Clinton in 1994). And Cleveland is under a COPS-supervised formal consent decree with DOJ today, because of the DOJ’s negative findings after the killing of Tamir Rice in 2014.
The Obama Justice Department has put nearly two dozen cities under consent decrees after finding fault with their police forces. (Others include Seattle, Denver, Chicago, New Orleans, and Ferguson, Missouri.) The important thing to understand about this is that Cleveland is not its own master in deciding how it will conduct police operations for the convention. Everything the city police force plans to do has to be approved by the federal monitor contracted to keep tabs on “progress” and compliance with the consent decree.
A DOJ-linked entity – the monitor – is thus already embedded in Cleveland’s police administration. So it is doubly puzzling why the Department of Justice would want to divert the special RNC funding through the state of Ohio.
The whole picture is so disjointed, frankly, that it’s quite possible someone hoped to benefit Cleveland by distributing the funds through the state. But we don’t know enough to draw a conclusion one way or another.
The consent decree and its administrators
Here are some of the things we do know, however. One is who the monitor is for the consent decree. The non-profit group contracted by the city is the Police Assessment Resource Center (PARC), a Los Angeles-based entity that is part of the Vera Institute of Justice. Both PARC and the Vera Institute have A-list connections on the radical left.
PARC was formed in the 1990s by attorney Merrick Bobb in the wake of the Rodney King verdict and the LA riots. Bobb himself has served as a monitor for DOJ consent decrees, most recently (and currently) with the city of Seattle, where he threatened the city when officials questioned items (like liquor and $35 pillow cases) in his expense report, and where 125 police officers filed suit in 2014 to stay the use-of-force policies adopted to comply with his demands, which the officers complained were overly restrictive and unworkable. (A federal judge rejected their suit.)
Observers of Bobb in the 1990s and 2000s, when he was contracted to monitor the LA County Sheriff Department, had long suggested that his tactics were questionable. (See the post here as well.)
None of this means that Mr. Matthew Barge, the PARC representative in Cleveland (and VP of PARC), is to be suspected of questionable tactics. But we are justified in suspecting him and PARC of having the same agenda as Merrick Bobb – and the other connections with whom PARC and the Vera Institute are associated.
One of those, as you probably suspect, is George Soros. The Vera Institute has been among the top 150 recipients of grants from the Open Society Institute.
The former director of the Vera Institute, Christopher Stone, joined the board of the Open Society Institute’s Justice Initiative in 2004, and became the director of the Open Society Institute itself in 2011. So we’re not talking about incidental connections here.
(Not coincidentally, a Soros Justice Fellow – a woman granted a fellowship by the Institute Stone runs and the board he lately served on – was among those arrested in Arizona in March blocking the road at a Trump rally. Soros is funding every aspect of the radical assault on peace and the rule of law in America.)
Another radical connection is Bernardine Dohrn, who was an advisor to the Vera Institute’s National Advisory Board on Adolescent Development, Safety and Justice from 1998 to 2003.
Another radical connection is one of the senior trustees of the Vera Institute: Debo Adegbile. Alert readers will remember him as the politically extreme advocate for cop-murderer Mumia Abu-Jamal whom Obama nominated to be assistant U.S. Attorney General for civil rights. Democrats joined Republicans in finding Adegbile too radical for the job.
Matthew Barge, the point man in Cleveland for PARC and the Vera Institute, is 33 and has been with PARC for about 10 years. Before signing on with PARC, he did a stint with Factcheck.org in 2005. He graduated from Georgetown University in 2004, and later got a law degree from NYU.
Notably, PARC was selected in 2015 as the contract monitor for Cleveland from a field of 23 applicants for the operation. Cleveland officials may have been dubious about Barge’s level of experience. But they could have no doubt that the folks at Justice liked PARC. Clearly, the connection of the Obama Justice Department with PARC and the Vera Institute isn’t limited to its long-time dealings with Merrick Bobb.
Indeed, in February 2016, just a week after the weird DOJ episode with Cleveland’s special-event funding, the DOJ COPS office that supervises Cleveland’s consent decree issued a new three-part guide on “police engagement with diverse communities” – a guide series on which COPS partnered with the Vera Institute of Justice.

This is the background that needs to be considered when we get pieces of news like the report that the Cleveland police union is gravely worried about the city’s preparation for convention security, less than a month before the convention starts.
And when we see that the city unveiled a new General Police Order governing the use of force, “just a few short weeks from the RNC.” The impetus for doing that was not from the police themselves, and in terms of sound management practices, would not normally have been ordered by city officials who had the best interests of Cleveland at heart.
And when we see that a delegation of Justice Department officials sent to Cleveland in late June to “help out” with convention security is from…the COPS office. We might imagine that extra DOJ assistance would involve, oh, let’s say – just at random here – the FBI. That’s who you’d send more of if security were your top concern. Instead, DOJ sent more people to monitor and criticize police practices in Cleveland.
And when we see that the ACLU got a federal judge to scrap the security-zone plan for the convention, also just weeks before its start date on 18 July.
And when we see that the attack on police in Dallas seems to have served as a wake-up call for Cleveland, with a mere 10 days to go before the RNC starts.
It defies belief, that there has really been a unified, across-the-board sense of complacency in Cleveland about plans for the RNC, until suddenly the Dallas massacre woke everyone up. Steve Loomis of the police union complained in June that Mayor Frank G. Jackson was being dismissive about police concerns. Based on all the other factors in play, I’m betting Jackson’s not the only problem.
Other Justice Department connections
One of the flashing neon lights is the series of visits by race activists linked to Black Lives Matter with both Loretta Lynch and Barack Obama.
Howard Portnoy caught one of the activists, Johnetta Elzie, on Twitter after the Dallas attack hypothesizing that the massacre was basically a false flag operation staged by the FBI to make BLM look bad.
Elzie vaulted to national fame in the Ferguson protests, as did DeRay McKesson, who made headlines this weekend when he was arrested at the BLM protest in Baton Rouge.
McKesson and Elzie work together on an effort called Campaign Zero, and are joint founders of a group called This Is the Movement. They are connected with BLM, but to call them “founders” or leaders of BLM is not really accurate. (The founders were activists Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. LU has previously covered their explicit threats to the GOP convention here, here, and here.)
McKesson and Elzie, as described at the NYT article above, have taken the more conventionally political route of working with politicians and government agencies. And it’s they who sat down with activist colleagues Brittany Packnett and Samuel Sinyangwe in December 2015 to meet with Loretta Lynch.

(Image: Facebook, DeRay McKesson) Brittany Packnett, an activist who also made her name during the Ferguson protests, was appointed by Obama to the Task Force on 21st Century Policing which he established in December 2014. Note that the chair of the task force is the head of DOJ’s COPS office, Ronald L. Davis. Davis’s office is thus working with the far-left activists on a routine basis.
An example of DeRay McKesson’s engagement with government initiatives is his participation in an early conference of the Task Force on 21st Century Policing in January 2015.
And, of course, another example – much more widely reported – is his meeting with Obama in the White House in February 2016. (See also here.) McKesson and Packnett were among a handful of race activists who basically represented the BLM “movement” in that encounter.

The impression of institutional gravitas
This is where the genius of the Obama administration is to embed radicals in government activities that look conventional, to the ordinary citizen’s eye. It’s one thing for BLM activists to holler and screech, interrupt politicians’ panels at conferences and protest in the streets. People can see that coming, as radical activity. But it’s another thing to hold solemn meetings and sit on government-sponsored panels, or get hired to monitor the police. Those activities have an air of institutional conventionality to them, as if they must be good faith efforts.
If we listen closely to the police complaints in Cleveland, and look at which associates of the U.S. Justice Department are engaged there, I think we see a picture different from what our mental biases would imagine. A COPS office being advised by Brittany Packnett and DeRay McKesson is not what people think of, when they hear that the Justice Department is stepping up its support to Cleveland for the GOP convention. But that’s what they’re getting. A federal monitor from PARC is unlikely to emphasize convention security over maximum latitude for street protesters – but how can the people see that in advance?
The appearance of conventionality keeps the people from seeing that there’s probably as much danger in Cleveland next week from enforced laxness and bias on the “law enforcement” side as there is from the organized protesters.
Consider one more data point, as we come to a close here. If you think a federal agency won’t promote race-based protests, think again. That’s exactly what another little-known office of the Justice Department did in Florida before the George Zimmerman trial in 2013. The DOJ Community Relations Service deployed to central Florida and spent taxpayer money not only to facilitate a protest march (by a group called the Dream Defenders), but to pressure the local sheriff to strong-arm at least one business along the route of the march. (I wrote about it here at the time, and recommend my post if you want the most accurate account of what the CRS is. But be sure to visit the Conservative Treehouse link, which has the best videos of the activity on-scene.)
The Obama DOJ has a poor record in these matters, and we are fully justified in being concerned about what the COPS office is really in Cleveland for. As my colleagues Howard Portnoy and Jerome Woehrle have detailed already, Obama himself, and a host of Democrats, have long shown a disposition to fan the flames of race divisions by making public comments that aren’t just irresponsible, but actively untruthful. They merit no presumption of good intentions.
It needs only the point that George Soros is funding both sides of this pincer closing in on Cleveland. Besides the influence of Soros-connected funding and people on the government-agency side, the influence of Soros money on the hooting-and-hollering BLM side is well documented. We can hope everything will be fine in Cleveland next week. But there are real reasons to worry that a whole lot of people involved are not on the side of law and order, as the average, responsible American citizen understands it.
