Russian Navy to hold biggest war games in decades

The four major Russian Navy fleets will hold a joint exercise in late January in the Mediterranean and Black seas. It will be the biggest such event in decades.

*Commands for the Northern, Baltic, Black Sea and Pacific fleets have been preparing for the exercises since December of last year, the Russian Defense Ministry has announced. Warships detached for the event are currently sailing to those regions.

“The primary goal of the exercise is to train issues regarding formation of a battle group consisting of troops of different branches outside of the Russian Federation, planning of its deployment and managing a coordinated action of a joint Navy group in accordance with a common plan,” the ministry’s information department explained.

The exercise will include several scenarios, including the loading of amphibious troops from an unprepared coast in the Northern Caucasus onto transport vessels.

The announcement comes days after the launch of the nuclear-powered submarine Vladimir Monomakh, the third Borei-class strategic submarine cruiser produced in Russia. The vessel, armed with Bulava ICBMs, will become part of the country’s nuclear deterrence force after completing sea trials.

The Russian Navy's five fleets each have their own headquarters. The strongest, the Northern fleet is based in Severomorsk in north-west of the country. The Baltic fleet is based in Kaliningrad, the western Russian enclave on the coast of the Baltic Sea.

The Black Sea fleet is based in Sevastopol, Ukraine, from which Russia rents a naval base. The Pacific fleet is based in Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East. The Caspian flotilla is the smallest in the Russian Navy, but is the strongest naval force in the enclosed Caspian Sea.

Warships from the four main fleets conduct joint naval drills on regular basis to streamline command and control for operations. Groups of ships detached from different fleets also often sail for joint missions in the high seas. The patrol in the Mediterranean in August 2012 drew worldwide attention amid rumors that the ships would become involved in the Syrian civil war.

(WAPA) - Colonel Igor Konashenkov, Russian defense ministry's spokesman, stated that today took place successfully the launch of the 15th Bulava ballistic missile.

It was launched for the first time from a Yuri Dolgoruky submarine in the waters of the White Sea between Russia and Scandinavia and reached as scheduled its target at about 5500 km away in the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Today's launch is the 15th of a Bulava missile -NATO code name SS-NX-30- which follows a number of failed attempts occurred last year (7 out of 15 tests): a result which had raised concerns about the effectiveness of these weapons, to which however Russia does not intend to renounce considering them as the only existing alternative and which it's going to use as strategic weapons from "Borey" class submarines until at least 2040-45.

SS-NX-30, solid and liquid propellant three-stage missiles, have a range of over 8000 km and can carry up to 10 MIRVs, Multiple Independently targetable Reentry Vehicles.

It would seem Russia is among those gearing up to take the chance at conquering the US when we fail due to the extreme mismanagement we have had.

Russian Navy to Receive 36 Warships in 2013

The Russian Navy will receive 36 warships in 2013, an unprecedented number in Russia’s history, Navy Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Vice Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov said.

“During this year, 36 combat ships, fast attack crafts and support vessels will join the Russian Navy.

This has never happened before,” Fedotenkov said at the International Maritime Defense Show in St. Petersburg.

Russian Navy warships are now performing missions in all areas of the World Ocean, with over 60 combat ships currently at sea, he said.

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in March the Russian Navy would receive 24 submarines and 54 warships of various classes by 2020.

“As a result of the implementation of the state rearmament program to 2020, the navy should receive eight nuclear-powered strategic submarines, 16 multirole submarines and 54 warships of various classes,” Shoigu said.

The eight strategic missile boats include three Borey and five Borey-A class vessels (SSBN) armed with Bulava ballistic missiles. The 16 multi-purpose submarines include eight Graney class nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSN) and improved Kilo and Lada class diesel-electric (SSK) boats.

In addition to submarines, the navy will receive Admiral Gorshkov class frigates and Steregushchy class corvettes, Buyan class corvettes and Ivan Gren Class large landing ships.

MOSCOW, June 3 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s Project 885 Yasen-class attack submarine, the Severodvinsk, has embarked on its latest series of official tests in the White Sea, the manufacturer said Monday.

Sevmash shipyard spokeswoman Yekaterina Pilikina said the tests had started several days ago, without providing details on their time frame or scope.

The shipyard had earlier said the submarine would continue tests that had started in 2011. The Severodvinsk has spent a total of 137 days at sea.

The submarine, whose construction began in 1993, is due to be delivered to the Navy later this year. It was to have been handed over by the end of 2012.

The Severodvinsk carried out a series of cruise-missile test-firings in November, including the test-launch of a supersonic cruise missile at a land target.

The multirole attack submarine has a submerged displacement of 13,800 tons, length of 119 meters, speed of 31 knots, and can dive to 600 meters. It has a crew of 90, including 32 officers.

It is armed with 3M55 Oniks (SS-N-26) and 3M54 (SS-N-27) Kalibr cruise missiles, torpedoes and mines.

Wow, that's a pretty substantial number of ships for delivery in one year.

I think the 'mismanagement' is more of the Saul Alinsky/'Cloward-Piven strategy' to eventually have a 'Second American Civil War' which the Bolsheviks plan on winning, much as they did the one which conquered Russia after 1917. I see strategy, not stupidity.

I don't see the Left winning such a war in this country.

There are too many real Americans who are currently ignoring the bullshit gun laws, ammo laws and so forth. They've hidden away weapons all over the place for when this happens.

The left won't disarm us without a fight - which they will certainly get.

Now, if they get help from the Russians, well, that's a whole different ball of wax.

I saw a video once of an FBI informant who mentioned among other things that the 'Weather Underground' planned on liquidating 45-50 million Americans and also expected Soviet and Chinese help too.

That would be the late Larry Grathwohl who just passed away recently.
