    Default Quiet Wacos?

I don't know this guy. I don't know he is in fact a "self described white supremacist" or any of that other nonsense. If he was planning an attack on a school, good on the authorities for catching him.

If he was "talking shit" and got arrested because people are freaked out, he isn't really a "white supremacist" or he wasn't planning an attack on a school, then we have to wonder about things like this:

Alabama teen free on bail after allegedly plotting 'terrorist attacks'

Police: Teen planned to attack school

    STORY HIGHLIGHTS

    • Derek Shrout, 17, is free after posting $75,000 bond set by an Alabama judge
    • He was arrested Saturday after a teacher found a journal that contained alleged terror plots
    • 6 students, 1 teacher were named as targets in his violent plot, a sheriff says
    • Shrout's lawyer says it was "just a lot of talk," claiming his client wouldn't hurt anyone

    (CNN)
-- An Alabama teen was released on bail Monday, two days after his arrest for allegedly plotting to launch "terrorist attacks" in his high school.

Derek Shrout was in a Russell County court Monday, where District Judge David Johnson set his bond at $75,000, prosecutor Buster Landreau said. According to CNN affiliates WRBL and WTVM, the teenager pleaded not guilty to attempted assault.

The 17-year-old was arrested after a teacher at Russell County High School found a journal that "contained several plans that looked like potential terrorist attacks, and attacks of violence and danger on the school," Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said on Saturday. "There were six students specifically named, and one teacher."

"He had put a lot of thought into this," the sheriff said. "It was obvious to us that there was more than just writing a story in a journal and it being fictitious."

Shrout's lawyer, Jeremy Armstrong, told reporters in court Monday that "this was just a lot of talk from my client."

"I believe he had no intentions ... to hurt anyone," Armstrong said to several media outlets, including WRBL.

This weekend, authorities showed reporters 25 tobacco tins and two larger ones, each with holes drilled in them and pellets inside similar to BBs.

Taylor said experts that his investigators consulted determined that, with a few more elements, the tins "would absolutely blow up exactly the way he wrote it."

"These ... devices were a step or two away from being ready to explode," the sheriff said.

The suspect is a self-described white supremacist, though it isn't known if he was linked to any specific group, Taylor told the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights group.

"At first through JROTC, he was confident, well-rounded. But as time went by, he was doing the whole white power thing," David Kelly, the senior class president at Russell County High School, told WTVM.

Shrout began writing in the journal shortly after last month's massacre at a Newtown, Connecticut, elementary school that ended with 27 people, including the suspected shooter, dead.

Taylor said that school shooting "was potentially the spark that started him writing things down in a plan."

But Shrout's lawyer said he thinks his client's case may "have been blown a little out of proportion, in light of what happened in Newtown."
"Of course, everybody in our nation is on edge," Armstrong said.

Under the conditions set Monday by the judge, Shrout must remain at home and will have an electric monitoring device, said Landreau. He cannot contact anyone at his school.

His next court hearing is scheduled for February 12, according to Landreau.

'Patriot' group looks to create armed community

By MARTIN KIDSTON of the Missoulian

    (43) Comments

According to the project description, The Citadel would house between 3,500 and 7,000 patriotic American families who believe in emergency preparedness, and who can show efficiency with the “American icon of liberty – the Rifle.”

Advertisements on the group’s website urge visitors to “Get an AR ... before it’s too late,” referring to the controversial AR-15 assault rifle.

The group says it’s looking to break ground on its community this year. It’s eyeing Benewah County, Idaho, outside of Coeur d’Alene, though it said Montana could be considered as well.

“While every effort and intention is to build in Benewah County, the Citadel Project reserves the right to select a final location with similar terrain in other Idaho counties or, if necessary, in Montana, Wyoming or elsewhere in the American Redoubt,” the website says.

The group describes itself as a nonprofit, liberty-driven group that believes in Thomas Jefferson’s Rightful Liberty. Marxists, socialists, liberals and establishment Republicans need not apply, the group says, as they would find life in the community “incompatible with their existing ideology and preferred lifestyles.”

The group’s blog says its spokesman, who isn’t identified, is not yet willing to give interviews, and media requests were referred back to the group’s website, iiicitadel.com.

The Southern Poverty Law Center dismissed The Citidel concept as an “idle fantasy,” while the Montana Human Rights Network plans to keep tabs on the group’s progress.

“Their talking points fit into the general anti-government survivalist movement,” said Rachel Carroll Rivas, co-director Human Rights Network. “They’re more explicit on their requirements for guns than some groups have been in the past.”

Carroll Rivas said her group has seen greater political engagement over the past four years by groups on the far right, including those interested in the survivalist concept.

Frustrated by the outcome of recent elections, however, they’ve begun to withdraw from the political process due to a sense of defeat. The process follows trends in recent history, including that in the 1990s, which saw the rise of groups in Montana like the Freemen during Bill Clinton’s presidency.

“When you don’t get what you want, you pull away, and it’s not surprising that some people would go this route,” Carroll Rivas said. “History has shown there’s an interest in our region.”
    ***
To win residency to The Citadel, applicants would have to agree to a list of conditions, such as following the U.S. Constitution, and being able to shoot a man-sized steel target at various distances with a handgun and rifle.

Members must keep an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle handy, along with at least five magazines, 1,000 rounds of ammunition and other supplies. Stocking provisions for one year is also required.

“The responsibility for maintaining functional arms and ammunition levels for every member of the household shall fall to the head of household,” the application form reads. “Every able-bodied Patriot will be responsible for maintaining a Tactical Go Bag or Muster Kit to satisfy the Minuteman concept.”

The group says it won’t have a leader. There will be no home ownership fees, no “recycling police” and no ordinance enforcers from city hall. Homes would be poured of concrete, the website says, to achieve maximum strength.

Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center, said he doubts the group is any bigger than one or two individuals looking to win a following. He called it nothing more than an idle fantasy.

“We don’t know who’s behind it, but the claim that there are several hundred people involved is patently ludicrous,” Potok said. “We’re likely talking about a man, a dog and his computer envisioning this whole imaginary city. We don’t take it that seriously.”

Carroll Rivas said the Human Rights Network and similar organizations across the region will continue to track The Citadel’s progress toward realizing its goals.

“They’re definitely new players, but we tend to see a lot of repeats,” Carroll Rivas said. “That western Montana region that borders Idaho has had some overlap with the anti-government survivalist groups.”

Glenn Beck announces plans for Independence, USA

    By Mike Krumboltz

Right-wing rabble-rouser Glenn Beck recently announced that he wanted to "go Galt" and create a self-sustaining community, inspired by the philosophy of Ayn Rand's character John Galt from "Atlas Shrugged."

The community will be known as Independence, USA. If and when it is completed, Independence will produce its own food and TV and film content. There will be homes, baseball fields and a theme park. Think: Small Town, USA, but with a Beckish vibe.

Beck announced his plans on "The Glenn Beck Program." The main entrance to the proposed community will be based on Ellis Island because, in Beck's words, that's how most Americans came to the country. There will also be a marketplace, but don't confuse it with your local mall.

"There's not going to be a Gap here. There's no Ann Taylor. You want an Ann Taylor, go someplace else," Beck said in a video announcement. The marketplace, Beck says, will be a place for people to create their own businesses and learn from others.

Other areas of Independence: The ranch (that's where residents will grow food and teach people how to grow crops), the media center (where Beck will film his show and where other entertainers will create movies, TV shows and documentaries), an Alamo-style mission for people to "gather and help others," a research and development laboratory and much more.

The main point, Beck says, is education. "Before you send your kids to college," Beck said in his pitch video, "you come to us. And you spend a week with us. We're gonna tell them exactly, we will show them the truth, we will tell them what they're going to try to do, and we will deprogram them every summer, if you care."

What's Beck's utopia gonna cost? Around $2 billion. Beck says he's willing to take steps to make his vision happen "one piece at a time." Just don't expect to find a Gap.

Glenn unveils his most ambitious and visionary dream: Independence

Thursday, Jan 10, 2013 at 6:52 PM EST

What are the American Dream Labs building towards? Glenn gave a look at the big picture that everything is building towards: Independence, USA!

While Independence is very much a dream at this point, the proposed city-theme park hybrid would bring several of Glenn’s seemingly disconnected projects into one place. Media, live events, small business stores, educational projects, charity, entertainment, news, information, and technology R&D – all of these things would have a home in Independence. With the rest of the country and the world going away from the values of freedom, responsibility and truth, Independence would be a place built on the very foundation of those principles. A retreat from the world where entrepreneurs, artists, and creators could come to put their ideas to work. A place for families to bring their children to be inspired.

The ambitious project, projected to cost over two billion dollars, has been heavily influenced by Walt Disney. As Glenn has been explaining throughout the week, Disneyland was originally intended to be a place where people would find happiness, inspiration, courage and hope. Over time, Walt Disney’s original vision has been lost. While hundreds of thousands still flock to the town, it’s become commercialized and the big dreams and the heart have been compromised.

Glenn believes that he can bring the heart and the spirit of Walt’s early Disneyland ideas into reality. Independence, USA wouldn’t be about rides and merchandise, but would be about community and freedom. The Marketplace would be a place where craftmen and artisan could open and run real small businesses and stores. The owners and tradesmen could hold apprenticeships and teach young people the skills and entrepreneurial spirit that has been lost in today’s entitlement state.

There would also be an Media Center, where Glenn’s production company would film television, movies, documentaries, and more. Glenn hoped to include scripted television that would challenge viewers without resorting to a loss of human decency. He also said it would be a place where aspiring journalists would learn how to be great reporters.

Across the lake, there would be a church modelled after The Alamo which would act as a multi-denominational mission center. The town will also have a working ranch where visitors can learn how to farm and work the land.

Independence would also be home to a Research and Development center where people would come to learn, innovate, educate, and create. There would be a theme park for people to recharge and have fun with their families.

People would also have the option to live in Independence, with a residential area where people of different incomes could all come together and be neighbors.

While Glenn was clear that Independence, USA is very much a dream at this point, viewers and fans should watch both old shows and new shows to see how Glenn’s various projects all have their tie to this one place that currently exists only in Glenn’s vision. But just because Independence doesn’t exist yet, it doesn’t mean the American Dream Labs aren’t starting to build the pieces. The Dream Labs are currently working on special effects technology that would be featured in Independence in this summer’s The Man in the Moon show.

Continue the tour of Independence, USA below:
