Re: Ft. Meade MD - Gate Crasher Shooting incident
Ok, I have not looked into this story.
However, I DO know something about perimeter barriers...as it's being implemented today in CONUS.
The brother of the guy that owns my company makes this modular Bollard system and they are being installed all up and down the east coast in major cities.
They are frickin amazing! They can stop dead a fully loaded dumped truck going 60mph. I've seen the videos. I've walked on the Bollards themselves as they were waiting shipment into NYC.
They are basically steel plates welded to bollards and the works is buried in concrete. There's more to it than that, but they simply cannot be run past. ANY vehicle that hits it will be stopped.
I believe they can also stop dozers/tanks. The point is...anyone in any vehicle that hits one of these or a similar system is going to spread a LOT of debris about and be in the "fish in a barrel" zone for security.
They make them in many different ways, some very fashionable.
They are rated at the highest level by the state department.
There's some cool video on the site. I've seen better than shown there. This one dump truck full of sand pretty much flew apart on impact with the bollards.

Re: Ft. Meade MD - Gate Crasher Shooting incident
I saw the gates in aerial shots they were showing a few minutes ago. I think they have the embedded metal barriers like we have where I am located.
The guy hit the gate proper, the protective building where the guards stand out of the rain.
Looks to me like he came right up to the gate and slammed into it.
Barriers won't stop that from happening (there are none).
We'll get more on this one soon, I'm sure.

Man shot dead after ramming gate at NSA

(CNN) - Two men tried to ram the main gate to enter the headquarters of the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland on Monday, according to a federal law enforcement official briefed on the probe. An NSA police officer shot one of the men dead, and seriously injured the second.
Aerial shots show two vehicles at an intersection that appear to be damaged.
The incident took place near one of the gates to the complex, far from the main buildings.
In addition to the headquarters of the NSA, Fort Meade is home to 95 units from all branches of the armed forces and offices that report to several Defense Department agencies, according to the U.S. Army, which operates the base.
About 11,000 military employees and 29,000 civilians work there, according to the Army.
Some 6,000 people also live on the base, which began operations in 1917 as a garrison for World War I draftees, the Army said.

Rather irritating how they release bits and pieces of data.
A little here, a little there. Let people drawn conclusions that might be totally off the board. Then give more later, that completely retracts what they said before, or makes you think something different.
Anyway...
2 men dressed as women crash a gate. They get shot dead at the gate, at least one of them. No one has said what kind of women they were dressed AS (Burkas? Hookers? I mean, wtf? Seriously?)
They were OBVIOUSLY thinking they were going to get through the gate to do something.
Weapons in the car? Bombs?
Nothing else has been released yet.
