The True Religion Of Peace

The temptation to comment on the sleaze currently oozing out of Washington in the battle for control of Congress, tainting the guilty and the innocent alike, is almost irresistible. It can wait. A much more important story unfolded last week in an Amish schoolhouse in Pennsylvania, a tale of forgiveness and grace that brings into sharp focus the clash of cultures in which we are now engaged.

We have heard repeatedly over the last five years that Islam is a "religion of peace hijacked by radicals." The President of the United States, in a vain attempt to appear evenhanded, has told us many times that this is the case. Meanwhile, bigoted "entertainers" like Rosie O'Donnell make millions telling TV audiences about the dangers of "radical Christianity." And yet we see little real evidence of either point of view.

There are stark differences between the manifestations of radical Christianity, as taught by Christ and His true disciples, and radical Islam, as taught by Mohammed and those who have followed his teachings down through the ages. One is radically merciful, the other radically merciless. One is radically redemptive, the other filled with radical retribution. Indeed, sadly, Islam has no concept for forgiveness. Christianity, on the other hand, is all about forgiveness.

To be sure, there have been those who have used the name of Christ in sick, twisted ways. Two modern examples leap to mind: the Phelps family in Kansas, with their "God Hates Fags" catchphrase (which seems to be the entire theology of their Westboro Baptist church) and the murderers who kill abortionists in the name of God. But when "Christians" like these go awry, they are universally condemned by virtually every Christian leader in the world. No such condemnation is heard from the leaders of Islam. Indeed, the silence from them is deafening.

In Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania, radical Christianity has been quietly on display for a long time. Taking the teachings of Jesus Christ and applying them to every aspect of their daily lives, the devout Amish people of this community could not have anticipated the violence that was about to descend upon them and their families in their simple, one-room schoolhouse. And yet, when it came, and when it was clear that death was about to claim their precious daughters, they knew what to do. At least one of the girls in that schoolhouse asked the gunman to kill her first, hoping to spare the life of her sister and the other younger girls, if only briefly. That is the peace of a Christian who knows that physical life is only the beginning of a gift God has given to his children. That is the request of a child who understood I Corinthians 15:55: "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?"

Consider the grace in evidence last week as the Amish community buried five little girls while loving and praying for the family of the man who murdered them. Then consider the Muslim demands for the death of Pope Benedict and the Danish cartoonist who portrayed Mohammed with a bomb in his turban, both of whom dared to point out the obvious about the primary prophet of Islam.

Consider the radical Christianity displayed through the long, sacrificial life of Mother Theresa as she ministered to the forgotten dregs of humanity, and then contrast it with the doctrine of those who would fly airplanes into buildings and behead those who disagree with them.

Islamic radicals follow a leader who told them to kill any who would not convert to Islam. Christian radicals follow a leader who laid down His own life to save all of humanity. In which civilization do you want your children and grandchildren to live? Those are truly the choices with which we are faced. Which culture will you defend?

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord Jesus Christ, for His is the true religion of peace.

A Contrast Between Mohammed and Messiah

Mohammed's method was COMPULSION; Messiah's aim was voluntary CONVERSION (Acts 3:19).

Mohammed's disciples killed for the faith; Messiah's disciples were killed for their faith (Acts 12:2; 2 Tim. 4:7).

Mohammed was a prophet of war; Messiah is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6-7).

Mohammed promoted persecution against the "infidels"; Messiah forgave and converted the chief persecutor (1 Tim. 1:13-15).

Mohammed was a taker of life; Messiah is the giver of life (John 10:27-28).

Mohammed and his fellow warriors murdered thousands; Messiah murdered none but saved many (compare John 12:48).

Mohammed practiced FORCE; Messiah preached FAITH (John 6:29,35).

Mohammed was a WARRIOR; Messiah is a DELIVERER (Col. 1:13; 1 Thess.1:10).

Mohammed conquered his enemies with the sword; Messiah conquered his enemies with another kind of sword, the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God (Heb. 4:12; Acts 2:37).

Mohammed said to the masses, "Convert or die!"; Messiah said, "Believe and live!" (John 6:47; 11:25-26).

Mohammed was swift to shed blood (Rom. 3:15-17); Messiah shed His own blood for the salvation of many (Eph. 1:7).

Mohammed preached "Death to the infidels!"; Messiah prayed "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34).

Mohammed declared a holy war (Jihad) against infidels; Messiah achieved a holy victory on Calvary's cross (Col. 2:14-15) and His followers share in that victory (John 16:33).

Mohammed constrained people by conquest; Messiah constrained people by love (2 Cor. 5:14).

Modern terrorists derive their inspiration from Mohammed and carry out their despicable atrocities in the name of his god Allah; Believers in the God of Abraham, and the Messiah, derive their inspiration from the One who said, "Blessed are the peacemakers" (Matthew 5:9).

Some modern day disciples of Mohammed responded to the terrorist attacks by cheering in the streets; modern day disciples of Messiah are deeply grieved at past atrocities carried out by those who were "Christians" in name only (the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, etc.).

Many Muslims are peaceful and peace-loving because they do not strictly follow the teachings of their founder; many followers of Messiah are peaceful and peace-loving because they do strictly follow the teachings of their Founder (Rom. 12:17-21).

Mohammed called upon his servants to fight; Yeshua said, "My kingdom is not of this world; if My kingdom were of this world, then would My servants fight . . .but now is My kingdom not from here" (John 18:36)

Mohammed ordered death to the Jews (see A.Guillaume, The Life of Muhammad, Oxford University Press [1975], p. 369); Messiah ordered that the gospel be preached "to the Jew first" (Rom. 1:16).

The Koran says, "Fight in the cause of Allah" (Qu'ran 2.244); the Bible says, "the weapons of our warfare are not carnal" (Eph. 6:12; 2 Cor. 10:4).

The Koran says, "Fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them" (Qu'ran 9.5); Messiah said, "Preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).

The Koran says, "I will inspire terror into the hearts of unbelievers" (Qu'ran 8.12); God inspires His terror (fear, reverential awe) into the hearts of believers (Isaiah 8:13).

The Koran (Qu'ran) is a terrorist manual which condones fighting, conflict, terror, slaughter, and genocide against those who do not accept Islam; the Bible is a manual to spread the gospel of peace to all the world (Rom. 10:15).

Mohammed's Mission was to conquer the world for Allah; Messiah's mission was to conquer sin's penalty and power by substitutionary atonement (2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Pet. 3:18).

Mohammed considered Christ a good prophet; Messiah pronounced Mohammed to be a false prophet (John 10:10; Matt. 24:11).

Mohammed claimed that there was but one God, Allah; Messiah claimed that He Himself was God (John 10:30-31; John 8:58-59; John 5:18; John 14:9).

Nigeria: Muslims Attack Christian Village, 300 Hacked to Death Including Women and Children With Machetes...

Christians are always on the receiving end of these massacres, whether it be in Nigeria, Iraq, southern Philippines, Egypt etc. But don't worry, Islam is totally a "religion" of peace...

(Reuters) - Nigeria's acting president Sunday ordered the security forces to hunt down those behind clashes involving Muslim herders and Christian villagers in which more than 300 people may have been killed.
Villagers in Dogo Nahawa, just south of the state capital Jos, said Hausa-Fulani herders from surrounding hills attacked at about 3 a.m. (10 p.m. EST), shooting into the air before cutting those who came out of their homes with machetes.
A Red Cross official said at least two other nearby communities were also targeted, in an area close to where sectarian clashes killed hundreds of people in January, but that it was too early to give an overall death toll.
A Reuters witness counted more than 120 bodies-- most lying in Dogo Nahawa, others taken to mortuaries in Jos -- but Plateau State Commissioner for Information Gregory Yenlong said more than 300 people, including women and children, had died.
