Now, to answer the question you have posed…
I think that your evidence you have posted points more toward Ms. Rice's naiveté than treason. What makes her naiveté more pronounced is not only her current job title but, her supposed "specialty" in Russian/Soviet Union matters. Thus, when combining the two, it may seem more serious than what it really is.
In my opinion, she has made the same mistake many others have made… Taking the Communists at face value. This is a mistake that Golitsyn discusses in depth in New Lies For Old! Many do not realize that a culture can make such extensive use of disinformation because our own culture has never done so. You have a very unique point of view in that you have lived in both cultures and can more easily recognize the deception for what it is!
When you mention how heavily Ms. Rice relies on Communist publications/sources for the writing of her book, you are proving my above mentioned point exquisitely. As discussed by Golitsyn, many "intelligence analysts" have done the same and thus arrived at many faulty conclusions about Russia, China, and the Communist movement. Some of those conclusions which have very adversely affected American policy both foreign and domestic.
So in my opinion, this is at the very least, the same naiveté that Golitsyn discusses as being so pervasive in American intelligence and political circles and at worst, Ms. Rice has become an unwitting dupe for which the Communists are using to spread disinformation.
Now, if we want to talk of real treason by public officials, a clear cut case can be made for Bill Clinton and any number of other Democrats! Not only have these people written books and various other pieces that are sympathetic to Socialist ways, but many have actively done things which assist the Communist cause (what was Bill Clinton doing in the Soviet Union during the Vietnam War?)
One question I do have though, what year was this book of Ms. Rice's written/published in?
I have to agree with Ryan here. I think it comes down to inexperience more than sympathy. A good point is the current situation between Russia and Poland or the long time one between China and Taiwan. Both of the bigger nations telling the smaller ones that they're basically still owned by them so stop trying to be free.
Communist nations like Russia don't suddenly stop being communist without a major military coup. It has never happened and I think current events bears this out.

Rice has impeccable credentials. She worked for the elder George Bush in the White House, handling Russian issues. She is a distinguished fellow at the Hoover Institution and former provost of Stanford University. Rice is very close to former Clinton Secretary of Defense William Perry. Rice worked with Perry and the Clinton administration during her term at Stanford. The Clinton White House once mentioned her as being on the short list for secretary of state.
Yet it is her years at Stanford working with Perry that have rendered Rice silent. While working at Stanford, she became involved in the most successful Chinese army penetration of the Clinton Defense Department. She will not answer questions about her relationship with Chinese spy Hua Di. Hua Di was born into a family of prominent Communist officials.
He studied missiles in Russia and worked for the Chinese army missile program for 24 years. In 1984, he went to work for the China International Trust and Investment Co. (CITIC), a firm then part-owned by the Chinese army.
Hua defected to the United States in 1989 after the Tiananmen Square crackdown on student democracy demonstrators. He went to work as a researcher at Stanford's Center for International Security and Arms Control. There he met Rice and the Stanford Center co-directors, former Secretary of Defense William Perry and political science professor John Lewis.
In 1994, Hua used his contacts at Stanford, in Beijing and inside the Clinton Defense Department with then-Secretary Perry to obtain a secure fiber-optic communication system for the Chinese army. In 1994, Hua contacted an old friend in the Chinese army then working for Gen. Ding Henggao, a close friend of Perry.
In fact, Perry and Ding's relationship spans three administrations. Perry reportedly met Gen. Ding in the late 1970s during the Carter administration. By 1994, Perry ran the U.S. Defense Department, and Ding had risen to command the Chinese army military research bureau COSTIND, or the Commission on Science Technology and Industry for National Defense. COSTIND, according to the General Accounting Office, "oversees development of China's weapon systems and is responsible for identifying and acquiring telecommunications technology applicable for military use."
Hua Di teamed in 1994 with Stanford Dr. John Lewis, Secretary of Defense Perry, and Gen. Ding of the Chinese Army to buy an advanced AT&T fiber-optic communications system for "civilian" use inside China. The communications system slipped past U.S. exports laws as a joint U.S.-Chinese commercial venture called Hua Mei.
The Chinese part of the venture was run by a newly formed firm named Galaxy New Technology. Hua Di described himself as the "matchmaker" between the Chinese Army and Lewis during an interview for the Far Eastern Economic Review. Hua arranged for Gen. Ding's wife, Madam Nie Li, to head the joint project as the Chinese co-chairman.
Stanford's Lewis, himself a board member of the project, located Adlai Stevenson III, the former Democrat senator from Illinois, to lead the American side. According to the Far Eastern Economic Review, Lewis had Defense Secretary Perry write a personal letter on his behalf to U.S. government officials, favoring the export to China.
With Perry's blessing, Hua Di and Lewis contracted AT&T to ship the secure communication systems directly to a Chinese Army unit using Galaxy New Technology as a front. AT&T officials who sold most of the equipment and software were adamant that there was no need to check the Chinese firm since the "civilian" Madam Nie Lie led it.
Yet, the so-called "civilian" firm was actually packed with Chinese army officers and experts. Madam Nie Lie was not only the wife of Gen. Ding Henggao; she was actually Lt. Gen. Nie Lie of the Chinese Army.
Another member of New Galaxy Technology, according to a Defense Department document, was Director and President "Mr. Deng Changru." Deng is also known as Lt. Col. Deng Changru of the People's Liberation Army, head of the PLA communications corps. Still another Chinese army officer on the Galaxy New Technology staff was Co-General Manager "Mr. Xie Zhichao," better known in military circles as Lt. Col. Xie Zhichao, director of the Chinese Army Electronics Design Bureau.
In fact, the evidence shows that Lewis worked not only for Stanford and the Chinese army during this time period. Documents obtained from the Department of Defense using the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) show that he also worked for the U.S. Defense Department.
In August 1994, Lewis and Secretary of Defense Perry traveled to Beijing to meet with Gen. Ding Henggao. According to the official list of attendees, Lewis accompanied Perry as his "personal" consultant. Lewis, then a paid consultant of the U.S. Defense Department, met in Beijing with Ding, who was also then Lewis's partner inside a joint U.S. Chinese "commercial venture" for military communications systems.
In 1997, Stanford professor Lewis was charged with using university funding and equipment to set up the deal with Galaxy New Technology. Stanford Provost Condoleeza Rice announced that Lewis faced an investigation because he had used iniversity stationery and his office to run the joint U.S-Chinese business. In the 1997 investigation, Rice issued a statement to the university press.
"We'll follow what is a normal process under these circumstances," said Rice in the 1997 interview. "Similar issues arise quite frequently. It's not all that unusual that issues arise concerning conflict of interest."
Yet, no formal charges were filed, and Rice quietly dropped the investigation against Lewis and Hua Di.
To this day, Ms. Rice will not answer why she stopped the investigation.
The General Accounting Office also documented the New Galaxy Technology scandal (GAO report GAO/NSIAD-97-5). According to the GAO, the scandal involved the "transfer of broadband telecommunications equipment to Hua Mei, a joint venture between SCM Brooks Telecommunications, a U.S. limited partnership, and Galaxy New Technology, a Chinese company primarily owned by an agency of the Chinese military."
In 1997, Rep. Henry Hyde pressed Attorney General Janet Reno to investigate the Galaxy New Technology scandal in a letter outlining his concerns. According to Hyde, "in 1994, sophisticated telecommunications technology was transferred to a U.S.-Chinese joint venture called HUA MEI, in which the Chinese partner is an entity controlled by the Chinese military. This particular transfer included fiber-optic communications equipment, which is used for high-speed, secure communications over long distances. Also included in the package was advanced encryption software."
By the end of 1997 the scandal was drawing too much heat for Hua Di to remain in the United States. In an article curiously released in October 1998, the New York Times announced that Hua Di had returned to China in December 1997.
According to the New York Times, Hua met with Chinese security officials in late 1997 and was assured that he would not be prosecuted. On Dec. 31, 1997, he returned to China. On Jan. 6, 1998, he was arrested and charged with passing state secrets to U.S. officials. In 1999, according to the official Chinese news service, Chinese defector and missile scientist Hua Di was sentenced in a people's court to 15 years for passing state secrets to the United States.
The end of this story is not very pretty. Stanford officials, including Rice and Lewis, have openly appealed to the Chinese government for Hua's release. Rice also continues to defend Hua.
Rice stated in a New York Times interview that Lewis "provided evidence to the fact that the source materials for publications written by him and Mr. Hua were provided by approved Chinese authorities or already were available through the Stanford University library."
Yet, Rice will not talk about Hua Di and the Galaxy New Technology deal. There was more than profit for Hua and the Chinese Army company packed with electronics experts. The secure fiber optic communication system delivered by Hua to his People's Liberation Army general buddies was modified in 1998 and now serves as a secure air-defense system exported to Iraq.
The current Iraqi air defense network, NATO code-named "Tiger Song," is made of U.S. and French fiber optic parts modified and re-exported by the People's Liberation Army. Tiger Song is based on the original secure AT&T system obtained by Hua Di in 1994. Iraqi missiles guided by Tiger Song have repeatedly attacked U.S. fighter jets.
According to an August 2000 Washington Times interview, Rice asserted, "China is not a threat."
Tiger Song is considered a lethal threat to American and allied armed forces. Such sweet irony that we now face our own weapons and they are not a threat.
Still, all seems to be well between Beijing and Bush. Condoleeza Rice is national security adviser to the president, and the Chinese Army again has a "matchmaker" inside the White House. Just don't ask her about Chinese army spy Hua Di.

Smith has written over 200 articles on China since this article on Rice. He implicates Clinton and Kerry regarding China numerous times in his writings, as well as many other figures. He hasn't featured Rice in his writing since 2001, but he is still writing about Clinton's connections with China.
But you seem obsessed with this one old article. Why? Smith writes about Clinton and Kerry recently, multiple times recently as a matter of fact, but not Rice. Perhaps he found out there was nothing there after all.

I wanted to show those, who have an open mind and do see that there is no freedom in Russia and Eastern Europe, and that this whole Perestroika is one long-term communist fraud [and nothing else], that people like Rice are helping the communists to achieve their victory.
If you are afraid of seeing these facts then you will see them when Russian commies begin their nuclear attack on America.
These people are fully committed to their communist evil cause and nothing will stop them from trying to implement communism all over the World. I don't buy that Rice is naive. I don't see this kind of possibility as even remotely possible - based on what she wrote, whom she is [or was] associated with [Korbel Albright, Perry etc.], her deeds favoring Russia and China, her anti-Israel deeds, those are not coincidences but true deeds of evil.....
Rice was in Russia [USSR] in 1978, why is this information missing in her biography ?

Her mentor Korbel was a high level Czechoslovak diplomat before and during the WW2. He was the one behind the CZ president Benes 1943 agreement with Stalin.
So Korbel was already helping Stalin to turn Eastern Europe into a communist region - which has happened after the war.
Rice comes to Soviet Union, and let us assume that the KGB talked to her and offered her a token.....if she said no, she wouldn't leave Russia alive - that is how it works !
Her book, her deeds, her connections, her past.
Put one and one together and you can see it for yourself.
It is not enough to claim ignorance when people are in such high level government posts, when facts are available, when analysis is easy to make, when enemies of America strive to destroy her at all costs.
She should be investigated, fired, stripped of her security clearance [and her people with her !!!], and America should immediately reverse our foreign policy toward any communist or "formerly" communist country - closing all diplomatic, business and any other ties with them, protecting the homeland, letting the American people to know the facts and the truth.
But that will never happen....
I only wrote this about Rice because those who still don't believe me will remember it when the communists come to America to kill, destroy and take her over.....
But at that time it will be too late.....

Look, I will say what I see, I will tell you what I think based on facts.
It is up to you to decide.
America thinks that once safely in freedom, always safely in freedom...
Everybody gets his piece of the pie. There is room for everything and everybody,
there is room for various "truths" to be recognized, there is always room for objections to be considered, there are simple ways of public pressure to reconcile those "truths" and make compromises.
As long as this is achieved, America is happy. And it is the happiness, the hedonistic way of life, that is the prime way of liberty in America. We don't want to discuss something that is difficult to comprehend, we don't want to debate about things that could inflict bad feelings to some who hold different views, we don't want to cause our human freedom and liberties to be harmed, because we are the ones in control of the World, we are those who rule, we are those who decide and we are those who, humanly speaking, will make certain that our future is happiness and liberty for all.
And why not ? We know better than anybody what true freedom is, we are supreme to anything and anybody, we are human ! We have come from the apes, as many will proclaim, but we have "developed" so well that we don't need some prehistorically thinking religious zealots to tell us that we are wrong..... that there is a God !
Wow, how dare you, we don't believe in God, only in our human superiority....!
Truth and error
As you read this, perhaps you will remember that God doesn't like proud people.
God is telling us in many ways, by many examples, that humility is what counts, that our ways should first be to Him and not to a man, to be humble of thought,
to love God first and then your neighbor, your fellow man.
But with this liberal human liberty there comes a typical human hunger for success,
for this proud display of achievements, for money and self esteem, that is for a human pride - how good we are, slapping each other on our backs, shaking hands and all thinking:
"See, we don't need God for anything, we can do it ourselves !"
But as we are approached precisely with times that God will prove us wrong, perhaps time has comes to reconsider, perhaps the religious liberty, which is not of God, but always of a man [and that automatically makes it an abomination to God], surely such thought takes away what we must posses from God to make it to eternity - His divine grace and His Divine Truth.
To live in times of plenty, people often forget that there were such times in history and that these were always followed by horrors of war, famine, disease, human bondage and slavery, which factors are always counted as destruction of souls.
History teaches us that when Sodom and Gomorrah fell, God showed His might and punished those who thought themselves superior to God. These had their pride
written on their forehead, they rebelled against God and they paid the price for it.
This is history.
When we come to realize that perhaps, as I am no diplomat in thought, the Russian etc. communism is not over but only disguised in carefully crafted blanket of "democracy", when these liberal thinkers come from their high horse and realize what damage they caused by their perverted version of "freedom", which they want always God excluded from, then perhaps the wrath of God's just punishment will leave us....
But in reality, as usually is the case, now the Russian communism [and the entire communist bloc together] will be used as a tool of punishment by God to make us learn, once and for all, that without Him there is no freedom, that without His Law there is no happiness, that without God's Commandments there is no society that can count on long term prosperity, love, happy days and what-ever you want to call it.....
Apocalypse and resurrection
As Hitler was able to sell his version of "peace" to these liberals in 1938 Munich, Germany, he didn't realize that by fighting these people he will only make them mad and that they are still committed warriors and will defend their freedom.
So this fact caused Hitler to loose the war because he didn't want to take the long time, as a plan the Russian communists have learned, analyzed and implemented, to soften and brainwash the liberals into thinking that national socialism - and today communism, is nothing to worry about, that people's rights to freedom will be respected, that communism can reform itself, and that there is nothing evil
nor criminal about this ideology.
Well, without sounding again radical, as certainly I have been accused of that before, this is a bunch of baloney.
Communism cannot possibly reform itself because the whole idea comes from the devil himself - and as such, this proud angel of light cannot reform himself without God, and I'm sure you remember that devil hates God - and so do the devil's servants.
But leaving aside the true background of communism, this criminal state run and controlled enterprise is not capable to put aside its criminal foundation and use thereof, for it is its main tool which assures that communism will continue to survive and which tool will cause communists to achieve their victory - in their mind that is, not in reality....
In some aspect, this materialistic communist thought has already won, the World is no longer run by spirituality but by mammon. Liberalism is the mainstream thought no matter how much "conservative" you may think you are.
God is no longer the arbiter nor example to our actions and religious beliefs, but we are. That again not only lures us away from God but in reality, it brings us closer to Hell, to our eternal damnation.
We snare at the middle ages, but wasn't it at any time in history rather better for people to live in poverty but closer and therefore happier with God ?
Wasn't it that even though without running water, without electricity, without a fridge and a car, bank accounts and a TV [oh my, how could they ever survive without
a TV ???], were these people still happier and lived better lives than we do today ?
Oh, no more lecture, this supposed to been an editorial, which is now not even worthy of its name, but to say the last word, with what comes next, I don't want nothing to do, the work is close to be finished, now only heroic deeds in the name of Our Lord
Jesus Christ will count, only basic daily survival, hunger, horror of death, nuclear punishment for our own human wickedness, that and much more will rule our
days to come.

But seriously… EM, while you may not agree with Honza's take on Ms. Rice he at least makes his point with evidence to back it up. And that is what we hope all posters wishing to debate or make a controversial point would do. Truth be told, I'll admit he makes some pretty convincing points and asks some interesting questions.
While I don't personally agree with his main point that Ms. Rice is a traitor, I will say that he has made an excellent point that Ms. Rice is certainly not the person for the job of Secretary of State. Especially at a time when we are dealing with an ascending China, a resurgent (from their dormancy) Russia and, numerous other countries either "electing" or still supporting Communist/Socialist/Leftist leaders. She has, at a minimum, proven that she can be easily duped by the Communists.
So EM, again, while you may not agree with his point at least give him the courtesy to make it. As long as he isn't just coming onto this board and ranting "Rice is teh traitor and should be hunged!!!!111" but is instead posting well thought out and supported points, everything is okay in my book.
Also, a word about Honza… He came from Czechoslovakia where he served his mandatory time in their air force when the Commies were officially in charge. He's now a proud and patriotic US citizen! So, he comes to the table with a very unique perspective of having seen the face of Communism up close and personal and, understands the danger we face. (Honza, if I got any of that wrong, just jump in and correct me! :) )
LOL. I guess even conservatives can fail to see eye to eye. Its good to see debate take place here. But lets always keep it friendly as Ryan suggests above.
I'm not as concerned about what Rice wrote in the past so much as I'd be concerned if she still felt that way today. If she does then we have a problem. We can all be awakened and I don't even agree with Ryan that she might not be best suited to be Secretary of State. I'm going to see if I can find some articles that show her stance currently on these kind of issues to see if we can sort this out.

As there is no way to prove a negative, for example---Condoleeza Rice is not a traitor---I will retire from the field.

Ryan, I don't have anything to add to what you wrote about me, but that is not the point. The point is whether we can trust somebody as Rice when she lies about the Russian communists ?
