Honest question I'm ashamed to ask as a Star Trek fan... :worry:
Am I the only one that didn't "get" the Hobbit song Nimoy was singing? I do now though! :blackeye:
For anyone else like me:
i loved this spot! and yeah i remember the bilbo baggins song, must just be you ryan :p
/chuckles
Old stuff. I don't even have to see the video you posted either, I'm better.
I'd never heard the Bilbo Baggins song...thanks for bringing it up.
I am a Trek fan, but I was still a month from being born when that was released.
Ryan... you're "pretty young" as Trekkers go you know.
I'm an "Original Trekkie". I went to my first (and unfortunately ONLY) Star Trek Convention in Detroit in the 1970s. (Had to have been around 1974 or so, I don't remember).
James Doohan was a speaker.
I actually met him at a local "Soda Bar".... one of those old 1950s places where you went in and ordered an ice cream soda. I used to go inside the place about once a week and happened to stop on a Friday after school ( I went to Cass Technical High School, downtown then) and heard his voice. (I'm pretty good with voices you know) and when I said "Hey, you're Scotty!" he said in a Scottish brogue "No, I'm James Doohan!" haha
He was a nice guy and talked to several of us in the place and I even missed my bus lol
I never got to meet Nimoy or Shatner... Saw Nichelle Nichols someplace in LA once, didn't meet her though.
The one guy I remember BEST from Star Trek wasn't a "regular actor". It was Harcourt Fenton "Harry" Mudd, Roger C. Carmel.
A long time ago he did Boones Farm commercials - he played Colonel Apple or something like that. My Dad worked for J. Lewis Cooper Distributors for many years as a driver, delivering - you guessed it, Gallo Wine, Boone's Farm and some others.. I worked with Dad most summers as a "helper" - made about 50% of what the drivers made for that job too!
One day I came in with Dad after work and they were having some kind a party at the facility and the big boss and other higher ups were there... along with Roger Carmel. He was a pretty funny guy and was in character for part of the gig I guess. haha
(Just looked him up, it was "General "Bull" Apple" and he had something to do with Teddy Roosevelt or something. I can't remember the details of the commercial now.
I remember asking him about his Star Trek appearance and he said he loved doing that part. Thought it was one of his "best" then he laughed kind of sarcastically.
Ironically, it's the part he's best remembered for.
