Hope you all are planning on gorging yourselves! :D
Happy Thanksgiving.
I do indeed plan on stuffing myself.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
...and yes I am so full. :D
Oh man... I ate way too much. And Sam's Club has awesome pumpkin pie!
We had 11 of the 13 grandkids there, all five of my kids showed up and some of the extended family (my daughter's husband's mom and two sisters are always welcome to come eat with us) .
We had a ... huge turkey, I didn't see it's weight, but it was HUGE... cooked in a "bag".
Broccoli casserole, mashed tatters, giblet gravy, yams and more things than I can remember. I never got any pies.
We started Wednesday night after work, at my son's place. The ladies were preparing pies, and some of the dishes. I cooked chili (and hot dogs for the kiddies) and we went home around 10 pm when things were almost ready.
Next morning we showed up around 10 and stuffed the turkey, then stuffed it into the over, and my wife was in charge of the cooking so she was the one giving directions. I tried to stay out of the way for the most part and watched some of the kids playing a bit.
We ate about 6pm last night. By then I was sick as a dog. Headache, and got my vertigo back for some reason... it's clear this morning, but I didn't get to eat a lot, just a little turkey and mashed potatoes, and something else.
Other than that, everyone had a great time. The kids ate til they were sick (the little ones, LOL!)
I was home with my dogs. We shared Johnsonville Brats I cooked up. Not a conventional Thanksgiving, but it worked. I am only slightly put off from missing human contact and a feast.
btw, Though I am slightly put off, I also recall a news article I heard yesterday morning. It was about US soldiers in Afganistan who are involved in an active firefight. Our gov sent over Thanksgiving dinner. So, in fighting lulls, these soldiers had their meal. The catch is, their compound is so small, the roofs of their bunkhouses are their eating quarters. I am Thankful for our soldiers and to me, that is a hard way to spend the day so far from home. As one soldier put it, it is a little tough being away from home, but they have each other there. That is a good story to me.
I've spent more than one Thanksgiving ( as well as Christmas) away from my home, family and friends.
It's not easy on those guys, especially in combat zones. But, honestly, we barely registered the "holidays" when our hands were full.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
I'm still full.
A Thanksgiving message from President Reagan...
Happy Thanksgiving all. Mine gathering is delayed a day, but not without thanks for the things that are important like family.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy thanksgiving all of you.
Ryan... thank you for the Reagan post.... I miss that man.
Sometimes it helps if I just pretend he's in office instead. :D
You know, I was a kid to a teen while Reagan was in office. I had a good sense of country and did not worry about our lives here. As I grew I came across many of his speeches and have read a few books. Heck, I lived a stones throw from his Library in Simi Valley, CA. I went there a few times and when he died, I was one of the many who walked past to pay respects to him. As a local, I had back roads and got dropped off seriously lessening the wait for me to 6 hours.
As I am maturing I reflect back to his Presidency and see he really is the last great leader we actually had. No disrespect to those before or after, but history shows who is a great and who is not. That said, he was also humble. Yes, a good man and leader.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy the turkey! :D
I will be flying solo this year, but have much to be thankful for. Hope everyone has a grand day.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, I will certainly be counting my blessings and enjoying a good meal
