Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
Just got done working on an ATM at a convenience store (United Dairy Farmers) in my service area.
When I went in I noticed they had a sign on the door saying they were giving away a free ice cream to all kids in costume.
After I wrapped up I told them I was dressed as an overworked, underpaid ATM service tech that is often accused of acting childish and, if I could have a free ice cream.
They said no.

Certainly not! I do have some dignity!
I waited until I got back to my work van.

Hahahahaha.
Hey, sometimes you just have to beg to get ice cream!
Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
Listening to Levin here. There's a guy in Jersey without power. said that the Mayor of the city made a robo call thing and said "we're going to try to have power back on within ten days".
That's sad. No ice cream for those guys either.
lol

Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
Almost forgot I had this thread. Time to post some daily life stuff...
Last weekend I had bought a 5 year old Frigidaire upright freezer off of Craigslist. I needed another deep freezer since my chest freezer was full and with my new washer and dryer I had room in the laundry room for an upright. The seller said it was a 16.5 cu. ft. but it ended up being a 20 cu. ft.! Seller was asking $75 and I got it for $50. Sweet!!!
The weekend I bought it we had gotten a bit of snow and I made the mistake of trying to get it up my back stairs on my own with my 2 wheel dolly. As you can guess, I lost my footing. :blackeye: Freezer went over on its side onto the concrete walk hard enough to pop the door off the hinges. :be2: I righted it, fixed the hinges, reinstalled the door and eventually brought it in and set it in place. I was once told that any refrigerated appliance transported off of upright should be left to sit upright for 24 hours to let the compressor oil re-settle before running so that's what I did.
Plugged it back in after 24 hours and it fired up! A couple hours later it was ice cold inside and the "Temperature Alarm" light had gone out! Yay! My slip-up (pun intended :D) had not just wasted $50!
Fast forward to today... While watching Game Of Thrones I heard a buzzer. Turns out the new freezer's "Temperature Alarm" light was lit and the buzzer was going off. Ffffuuuuuuu...
Apparently the fall must have been enough to cause some sort of pin-hole refrigerant leak or some other issue (the compressor is still running). The freezer just isn't getting cold enough any longer. :(
There goes $50... Time to find another freezer. Not sure I'll be able to get another deal as good as this one.

Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
Uhh..maybe that's why it was $50.
Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
Possibly, that would certainly make me feel better that it wasn't my doing. :D It fell pretty hard though.

Drove right under this, just outside of my town. He was just sitting there hovering over the roadway.
Power line inspections. :D They had just done a flyby of the high tension lines by my house a few days ago.
Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
Denial ain't just a river, Ryan. I think they've finally found you. Although, the heli isn't black.
Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
:ninja:
:D
It was a bit odd seeing it hovering right there above the road and then driving right under him.
Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
Should have stopped right under him and took pictures. lol
Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
I thought about it but there was traffic behind me and the speed limit is 55 through there. :D
Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
There's times when I had a truck mounted minigun on motors that would pop up and track things like that. LOL
Not a real one, just one that was scare the piss out of someone. Even those idiots that do stupid crap on the ground.
Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
I spotted this in a downtown parking garage I was parked in:

Didn't look like the station offered much survival even in the best of times to me! Though the parking garage building was pretty old and did look fairly stout.
Re: Ryan's Thread Of General Thoughts And Musings
Every now and then I'll get on Craigslist and do searches for terms for military stuff I might be interested in like "armor", "MOLLE", "monocular", etc. just to see what pops up. Earlier this week I was doing a search and found an already decent deal on a USMC ILBE backpack listed at $60. After little haggling I managed to snag it for just $45. It's seen a little use but light at best.
The pack is complete with the waistbelt, lid, and radio pouch all of which can be missing. Normal prices on these packs range from $100 (minus the accessories, used) to upwards of $250 (with all accessories, new). The pack was originally designed by the popular outdoor equipment company Arc'Teryx and was produced by Propper. The Arc'Teryx pack of the same design but made of lighterweight materials costs around $700. Specs say it can hold around 120lbs and it has 4500 cubic inches of storage. It is a really great pack, especially for the price!
If you need a good long term pack, keep an eye out for these. There's a ton hitting the surplus market at really great prices as the USMC is phasing them out in favor of the FILBE which wears better with body armor than the ILBE does.
Here's a couple pics:

B-17 Aluminum Overcast spotted flying over my town. I do hate the camera on my phone, it doesn't really capture how low it was...

I really want to go on a flight in one of these warbirds some day.
