Janeane Garofalo has been secretly married for 20 years — only she and the groom weren't actually in on the secret until he decided he wanted to marry someone else.
The comic admitted her secret past on Saturday at a New York Comedy Festival reunion for "The Ben Stiller Show," according to the New York Post.


“We got married drunk in Vegas," she said of herself and Rob Cohen, who was a writer on "Stiller" when they dated for a year in the '90s and is now a producer on "The Big Bang Theory." She was an actress on the show.

One wasted night, they got in a cab and got married at a drive-through chapel. Little did they know, Garofalo said, the marriage was for real.


"[We thought] you have to go down to the courthouse and sign papers and stuff," she said, "so who knew?"


Cohen's lawyer apparently dug up the dish in preparation for his client's wedding to another woman. The split was notarized at a bank in New York City just a half-hour before the panel discussion on Saturday, Garofalo said.

Barbara Walters is saying goodbye to TV journalism.
After more than half a century in the industry, the veteran ABC News anchor plans to retire next summer, ABC announced Sunday night. Walters, 83, is set to make it official Monday morning on "The View."
And the network plans to make good use of her while it can. The legendary TV personality will continue to anchor and report for ABC as well as continue to appear on "The View" and anchor specials throughout the year.

"I am very happy with my decision and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead both on 'The View' and with ABC News," she said in a story posted Sunday night on ABCNews.go.com. "I created 'The View' and am delighted it will last beyond my leaving it."
Walters will retain her executive producer role on the long-running weekday gabfest.
Talk of Walter's retirement first emerged in late March after she underwent a health scare that included a hospital stay. It later turned out she'd contracted chicken pox. At the time the reports surfaced, she said simply that she had no announcement to make.
Now she does.
She tweeted to her followers Sunday night: "Big news — and I want to tell you first ... (Looking forward to one more great year!)" She directed them to the story on the ABC News website.
Walters has been a pioneer for women in the television industry. After working her way up from a researcher for NBC's "Today" show to become co-host of the morning program, she left her 15-year stint at NBC and moved over to ABC, where she would become the first woman to host an evening newscast, teaming with Harry Reasoner on the "ABC Evening News" in 1976. It was the start of a 37-year relationship with the network, which included co-hosting the evening newsmagazine "20/20" and hosting numerous prime-time specials.

Her decades of groundbreaking work have included a range of high-profile interviews with countless world figures, statesmen and celebrities — including Fidel Castro and Vladimir Putin — as well as the first interview with Monica Lewinsky after the scandal involving President Bill Clinton. There was also fluffier fare. Walters has made a spectacle of "Most Fascinating People," a yearly special she hosts in December, spotlighting folks such as Tom Cruise and the "Jersey Shore" reality stars on MTV. She also hosted an annual interview show pegged to the Academy Awards.
"There's only one Barbara Walters," ABC News President Ben Sherwood said in a statement. "And we look forward to making her final year on television as remarkable, path-breaking and news-making as Barbara herself. Barbara will always have a home at ABC News and we look forward to a year befitting her brilliant career, filled with exclusive interviews, great adventures and indelible memories."
Don't count on her having a change of heart — it appears she's intent on finally being an observer.
"I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain," Walters said. "I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women — and OK, some men too — who will be taking my place."

As much as they love to revise history to suit their agenda and ignore their their own racism, this really takes the cake.

Twitter posters were up in arms after a follower posted a picture of a building affiliated with Northeastern Illinois University that includes a plaque honoring the nation’s 16th president — as a Democrat.


The Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies of Northeastern Illinois University has this plaque on its exterior, the news aggregation site Weazel Zippers found: “This building is dedicated to public service honoring the memory of Abraham Lincoln Democrat.”

Mr. Lincoln, of course, was not. And Twitter posters were quick to point out the error.


“Shows you how uneducated the Dems/Libs are. Lincoln started the Republican Party,” one wrote.


Another wrote: “Lincoln a DEM???”


And in reply to that poster, another wrote: “No but these DEMs aren’t that bright. He was actually from the Whig Party then Republican.”

Today I found out the first legal slave owner, in what would eventually become the United States, was a black man.


The man was Anthony Johnson. Johnson first came over to America as an indentured servant, arriving in 1620 in the Colony of Virginia. He did not come over willingly, as many did, agreeing to become indentured servants in exchange for passage to the New World. Rather, Johnson was captured in Angola by neighboring tribesmen and eventually sold to a merchant who transported him to Virginia, where he was then sold to a tobacco farmer.


Despite this, Johnson was not technically a slave, as most think of it. He was simply required to serve the farmer for a time in exchange for room and board. However, like slaves, indentured servants could be sold or lent out to someone else, and, for the most part, they could be punished how those that owned their contracts saw fit.


One of the biggest differences between slaves and indentured servants was that once the indentured servant’s contract was up, depending on the agreement made with the person paying for transport, often the former servant would be given some small compensation for their services to help them get their start as free individuals. This might include some amount of land, food (often a year’s worth), clothing, and tools.


During their time serving, indentured servants also typically learned some trade as they worked, which was significant for many who chose to make the journey to the Americas as indentured servants- often poor, uneducated individuals, lacking a trade, and in search of the promise of a better life. Because of this, in the early days, most indentured servants in the British colonies in America were actually Irish, English, German, and Scottish, rather than African.


Johnson, of course, didn’t choose to come over. Nevertheless, once in America, he toiled away as a tobacco farmer for the duration of his contract. During this time, he also met a woman (soon to be his wife) named simply “Mary”, who had been brought over to America about two years after Johnson, with her contract also being purchased by the same man who owned Johnson’s contract.


In 1635, after working on the tobacco farm for about 14 years, Johnson was granted his freedom and acquired land and the necessaries to start his own farm. Sources are conflicting on whether he purchased the remaining years on his wife’s contract or whether she completed it, but in the end, the two, with their lives now their own, began working for themselves.


They soon prospered and took advantage of the “headright” system in place for encouraging more colonists, where if you paid to bring a new colonist over, whether purchasing them at the docks or arranging it before hand with someone, you’d be awarded 50 acres of land. Similarly, those who paid their own passage would be given land under this system.


This leads us to 1654. One of Johnson’s servants, John Casor who was brought over from Africa, claimed he was under a “seaven or eight yeares” contract and that he’d completed it. Thus, he asked Johnson for his freedom.


Johnson didn’t see things this way, and denied the request. Despite this, according to Casor, Johnson eventually agreed to allow him to leave, with pressure supposedly coming from Johnson’s family who felt that Casor should be free. Thus, Casor went to work for a man by the name of Robert Parker.


Either Johnson changed his mind or he never said Casor could go, because he soon filed a lawsuit against Parker claiming that Parker stole his servant, and that Casor was Johnson’s for life and was not an indentured servant.


Johnson ultimately won the case, and not only did he get his servant back, but Casor became Johnson’s slave for life as Johnson had said he was. This officially made Johnson the first legal slave owner in the colonies that would eventually become the United States. (There were other slaves before this, just not ones that were legal in the British colonies under common law).


The judge’s decision on the matter was announced as follows:


This daye Anthony Johnson negro made his complaint to the court against Mr. Robert Parker and declared that hee deteyneth his servant John Casor negro under the pretence that said negro was a free man. The court seriously consideringe and maturely weighing the premisses, doe fynde that the saide Mr. Robert Parker most unjustly keepeth the said Negro from Anthony Johnson his master … It is therefore the Judgement of the Court and ordered That the said John Casor Negro forthwith returne unto the service of the said master Anthony Johnson, And that Mr. Robert Parker make payment of all charges in the suit.


About 7 years later, Virginia made this practice legal for everyone, in 1661, by making it state law for any free white, black, or Indian, to be able to own slaves, along with indentured servants, as they’d been able to have before.


While Johnson’s temporarily gain of being granted the services of one of his indentured servants for life no doubt had a positive affect on his thriving business, ultimately the gradual changing of attitudes in the colonies concerning slavery and race came back to hurt Johnson’s family, with slavery slowly becoming less about one’s original financial situation and more about where you or your ancestors were originally from.


When he died in 1670, rather than his thriving plantation going to his children, the court declared that “as a black man, Anthony Johnson was not a citizen of the colony” and awarded the estate to a white settler. Quite a contrast to the declaration in 1654 by the court that Johnson and his wife were “…inhabitants in Virginia (above thirty years) [and respected for] hard labor and known service.”

As Texas Governor Rick Perry dined in the Dallas area on Thursday, a constituent approached him and asked if she could have her picture taken with him. Being the good sport that he is, Rick Perry agreed. Little did he know the woman had an ulterior motive for her picture.


The woman has been identified as Amanda by JuanitaJean.com. The site describes itself as ‘the world’s most dangerous beauty salon’ that is actually a professional political organization. The admin of the site identifies herself as Susan DuQuesnay Bankston and, according to Bankston, she knows Amanda personally.Amanda sent this picture to JuanitaJean.com and claims that it was fueled by sangria. Of course, the uncouth, ill-mannered Left are cheering this photo because of what Amanda did unbeknownst to Gov. Perry.

Classy, right? Not.

Fast Food Chain Bans Alcohol-Based Wet Wipes So Muslims Aren’t Offended

Graham Noakes visited a KFC and was refused a wet-wipe after he was told that the fast food chain was a halal-only branch, and the alcohol in the handwipes contained a substance that was banned by Islam.



Initially Noakes said he thought the refusal was a joke until the staff confirmed that the policy was in fact real:

“They told me it might offend other customers. I explained that it wouldn’t affect me. In fact – I told them I like alcohol, so it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest,” Noakes said. “When they wouldn’t give me one, I was disgusted. Why shouldn’t I be allowed a wipe for my hands? They use wipes in hospital, what happens when we start being told we can’t have wipes there? I just can’t understand it.”

KFC spokesperson said that the company began offering on halal only items back in 2010 to comply with Islam. They had been waiting on new lemon-based wipes to replace the alcohol-based ones to make sure that the stores satisfy the customers’ needs.
