    Default George H.W. Bush

I spent a good deal of my time traveling with and for this man in the 1980s. I met him and spoke at length many times to him.

I have a lot of good memories of the man and no one is ever going to convince me he's some kind of a NWO guy or some such crap. The man was a Navy pilot and flew a lot of missions in WWII. I can't even imagine him doing anything "evil" as some have suggested.

He was director of CIA for a time - and to his credit as VP of the US got on a plane in the middle of the night and flew to where Marines had been murdered by a truck bomb a few hours before - WITHOUT waiting for military plans, the White House Communications Agency to get there and set up, or asking permission of Ronald Reagan. He JUST WENT.

He's in the hospital still... he didn't get out on Christmas and has taken a turn for the worse. He is now been moved to Intensive Care in the hospital.

Former President George H.W. Bush in intensive care: spokesman

    AUSTIN, Texas | Wed Dec 26, 2012 6:52pm EST

(Reuters) - Former President George H.W. Bush is in the intensive care unit of a Houston hospital and is in "guarded condition," family spokesman Jim McGrath said Wednesday.

"The President is alert and conversing with medical staff, and is surrounded by family," McGrath said in a statement.
Bush was admitted to the intensive care unit on Sunday, McGrath said.

President George H.W. Bush celebrated his 90th birthday today by jumping out of a helicopter. And nobody tried to stop him.
The 41st president tweeted breezily several hours before the event: "It's a wonderful day in Maine — in fact, nice enough for a parachute jump."
Bush made the jump — his parachute was red, white and blue — even though he has mostly had to use a wheelchair to get around for the last year. He has vascular Parkinsonism, which causes symptoms similar to Parkinson's disease.
It was a tandem jump from a helicopter near his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. Bush was harnessed to Sgt. 1st Class Mike Elliott, a retired member of the Army's parachute team.
Television images captured the former president, noted for daredevil stunts in his retirement, floating gently to the Earth in what appeared to be a long arc.
It was the former world leader's eighth parachute jump. The first time, he had no choice.
In 1944 Bush was a 20-year-old torpedo bomber pilot serving in World War II. His squadron was on a mission when it was attacked. His plane's engine was on fire, but he released his bombs and headed back toward the aircraft carrier San Jacinto. On the way, he had to bail out over the ocean. Three other crew members died. Bush earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.
The former president has commemorated three other landmark birthdays with parachute jumps — plummeting to the Earth at 100 mph on his 75th, 80th and 85th.

Former president George H. W. Bush may be wheelchair bound, but he didn't let that stop him from jumping out of a helicopter.
’41 celebrated his 90th birthday with a tandem skydive near his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine Thursday.

It's a wonderful day in Maine -- in fact, nice enough for a parachute jump.
    — George Bush (@GeorgeHWBush) June 12, 2014

The former commander-in-chief took the plunge just after 11 a.m., plummeting through the air until a red, white, and blue striped parachute bloomed above him.

He floated for several minutes over the scenic town before touching down in front of a cheering crowd of friends and family – including his son, former president George W. Bush, and his great-granddaughter, baby Mila Hager.

As he and his companion tumbled onto the lawn face-first, aides ran over to untangle Bush from his harness and assist him into his wheelchair.

His wife, former first lady Barbara Bush, congratulated her husband with a few big kisses. Bush flashed a thumbs up sign.

Bush was joined by Mike Elliott, a former member of the U.S. Army Parachute Team and the president of All Veterans Group, according to a statement from Bush's office.
This isn’t the president’s first skydive: He celebrated his 75th, 80th and 85th birthdays the same way.

But according to the statement, “President Bush's first parachute jump took place when he was shot down over the Pacific island of Chi Chi Jima on September 2, 1944.”

(Reuters) - Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, 90, was hospitalized in Houston, Texas, late on Tuesday after experiencing shortness of breath, a spokesman for the 41st commander-in-chief said in a statement.

Bush's latest health scare came two years after he was struck by illness during the 2012 holiday season. He spent seven weeks in a Houston hospital for bronchitis and related ailments before his discharge in mid-January of 2013.

On Tuesday evening, the former president "was taken by ambulance to the Houston Methodist Hospital as a precaution after experiencing a shortness of breath," according to his spokesman, Jim McGrath.

Bush "will be held for observation, again as a precaution," McGrath said in a statement.

The former president, a Republican, grew so ill during his previous hospitalization that he was believed at one point to be near death, and members of his family gathered around him.

However, he marked his 90th birthday this year by taking a parachute jump in Kennebunkport, Maine. His eldest son, former President George W. Bush, just published a best-selling book about his father, titled "41 - A Portrait of My Father."

President Barack Obama wished his predecessor well in a statement issued by White House spokesman Eric Schultz from Hawaii, where Obama was vacationing with his family.

"The president has been made aware that President Bush was admitted to the hospital," Schultz said. "President Obama and the first lady send their good wishes to the former president and the entire Bush family during this holiday season."

The elder Bush served as vice president for eight years during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president before being elected president himself, defeating former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis, the Democratic nominee, in 1988.

Bush took office in 1989 and served one term in the White House, during which he organized the U.S.-led military coalition that defeated Iraqi forces after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.

He lost his 1992 re-election bid to Democrat Bill Clinton.

Bush also served as a congressman, a U.N. ambassador, U.S. envoy to China and CIA director before becoming Reagan's running mate in 1980.

Well, that'll teach him to sell loosies.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."
