Chris Christie and N.J. Democrats reach agreement on DREAM Act

TRENTON— Students who grew up in New Jersey but are in the country illegally will soon be able to pay in-state tuition at its public colleges and universities.

After weeks of feuding between Republican Gov. Chris Christie and Democrats who control the Legislature over the so-called “DREAM Act,” the two sides reached a breakthrough today and agreed to a compromise.

“I’m overwhelmed with joy,” said state Sen. Teresa Ruiz (D-Essex), the bill’s sponsor, as she fought back tears. Ruiz and state Senate leaders announced the deal at a press conference this morning, surrounded by students donning cap and gown outfits.

Christie today plans to sign legislation that would allow unauthorized immigrants who graduated high school in New Jersey after attending for at least three years to be eligible for the lower in-state rates at public higher educational institutions, including in-county rates at community colleges.

New DHS Secretary Says Illegals 'Earned The Right' and Are 'Entitled' to Become Citizens

    Back to Breitbart TV

    25 Jan 2014, 11:14 AM PDT 14 post a comment

In his speech at the U.S. Conference of Mayors on Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson made an extraordinary statement about illegal immigrants in the United States.

“An earned path to citizenship for those currently present in this country is a matter of, in my view, homeland security to encourage people to come out from the shadows,” said Johnson, in what he remarked was one of his first public speeches since being confirmed as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chief in December.

“It is also, frankly, in my judgment, a matter of who we are as Americans,” he said, “to offer the opportunity to those who want to be citizens, who’ve earned the right to be citizens, who are present in this country--many of whom came here as children--to have the opportunity that we all have to try to become American citizens.”

They broke the law. Of COURSE in the eyes of lying, cheating, lawbreaking, tax evading Democrats and Liberals they have "earned" something.

They have earned the right not to go to jail when breaking the law. Free health care because some other dumbass Conservative pays for it. They've earned the right to vote because obviously they need more Democrats and Liberals in office. They've earned the right to get drivers licenses because, well, you know "they will drive more safely" if they have one....

What a load of horse shit.

Boehner Working with Obama to Ambush House Republicans on Bloomberg-backed Immigration Changes

    Wednesday, 29 January 2014 21:58
    Written by Gun Owners

“Democrat control of Congress bodes well for oppressive gun laws, [and] a huge influx of newly legal voters from cultures where draconian government control over private firearm ownership is an unquestioned matter [helps]. Bloomberg can hardly be unaware of that.” -- The Examiner, January 29, 2014

The good thing about anti-gun liberals in Washington is that they are pathologically incapable of keeping their mouths shut.
And, this morning, shortly before 9:00, MSNBC commentator Dick Gregory announced that House Speaker John Boehner, the day before, had told a private meeting of reporters that he had been talking with Barack Obama "a lot" about pushing immigration reform.

It's pretty clear why Barack Obama wants a bill which would either legalize or grant citizenship to as many as 11.5 million people who, according to Latinos expressing their opinions in a Pew poll, would cast 88% of their votes for liberals like Barack Obama.

It's also clear what Speaker Boehner has in mind: If he sabotages his own party, the liberal media will throw him a "doggie treat."

But, for other House Republicans, the advantage of having an Obama/Boehner knife in their back is a little less clear.

A note on why gun owners have "skin" in the immigration game: By turning a net 8,000,000 people into an "Obama army," even "legalization" without immediate citizenship would fundamentally change electoral politics for the 2014 elections.

This is why, along with gun control, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has made immigration "reform" his central priority.

The anti-gun Bloomberg knows that "legalization" of persons unlawfully in the U.S. will create an "Obama army" which will transform the 2014 elections and achieve the almost impossible task of delivering the House and the Senate to the party of gun control.

With Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in power in 2015, the "Obama army" will then get their "citizenship" reward -- and gun control will advance.

This “Obama army” has already made several appearances:

Remember how, in November, children of illegals ambushed House Speaker John Boehner in a local diner over breakfast?
Remember how a mob of pro-amnesty spectators turned the U.S. Senate into a pep rally last June by chanting Obama's campaign slogan, "Yes we can," from the Senate gallery?

Remember how Bloomberg orchestrated out-of-state agitators who descended on the town hall meetings of Senators like Kelly Ayotte and Jeff Flake in order to demand gun control last Spring?

Multiply this by a million, and you will understand the ramifications of giving Obama an anti-gun army, going into the 2014 elections.

ACTION: Contact your Congressman. Tell him to stand up to House Speaker John Boehner at this weekend's "retreat" and to oppose the creation of an "Obama army." There are separate letters for Republican and Democrat Congressmen. Based on your zip code, the correct letter will be automatically selected.

    Not happening this way.... good.

    Insurrection Sends House Speaker Reeling

February 4, 2014 by Floyd Brown

In politics, it’s important not to look too far ahead. Things change quickly on the Hill, and what’s here today could be gone tomorrow.

But with that in mind, Barack Obama’s dream of amnesty and citizenship for the millions of people living here illegally is dead. The rule of law has triumphed, if only for a short while.

What makes me so confident? Well, I spoke with members of Congress who attended John Boehner’s Republican conference retreat and the ensuing discussion about immigration policy. They told me that, despite Boehner’s attempt to sway his fellow Republicans into voting for immigration reform, the Speaker of the House failed miserably.

Boehner has been working feverishly to keep the issue alive after facing constant pressure from the hotel, tech, construction, and restaurant industries. They all want to keep their low-wage workers and continue to fatten profits. You see, legalizing millions of illegal immigrants is a much cheaper prospect than raising wages to draw more workers.

And Boehner, ever the compliant politician, would like to keep the dollars that these industries contribute to Republican campaign funds.

But at the party conference, where Boehner planned to surrender to corporate interests, the Speaker instead faced an insurrection. The rank-and-file members of the GOP caucus were, by most accounts, against even the concept of immigration reform – by a ratio of more than three to one!

Eventually, as the discussion between members droned on, Boehner and his allies saw the writing on the wall. If they did bring an immigration vote to the floor, they’d split their party so deeply that Boehner would be in jeopardy of losing his job as House Speaker. And for Boehner, maintaining power has always been more important than any individual issue.

All told, it’s now extremely unlikely that Boehner will continue pushing for immigration reform this year.

Like Freddy Krueger, It Keeps Coming Back

However, this doesn’t mean that the issue is put to rest.

The potential savings are too great for the corporate titans to forget forever. They want the low-wage workers, and they’ll keep pushing.

Just look at Facebook’s (FB) FWD.us campaign. Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg is so desperate for low-wage workers that he’s taken the rhetoric to unhealthy levels, charging that opponents of immigration reform are tied to white supremacy groups and supporters of eugenics.

I guess when you can’t win the argument, it pays to spend millions disparaging your opponents.

At the same time, business interests are charging hard for increased immigration. Just think: Homes to house immigrants must be built.

Autos, furniture, and food must be produced for the newcomers. There’s almost no end to the products that could be sold to America’s newest consumers.

Finally, because of the agreement between big business and liberal special interest groups, immigration reform is never far from passage.

Between the desire to please the masters in big business and the political impact of giving millions of noncitizens the right to vote, the immigration issue is pretty much impossible to kill.

Biden: 11 Million Undocumented Aliens Are Already Americans in My View

    Melanie Hunter
    CNS News
    March 28, 2014
Vice President Joe Biden, in a speech to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 2014 Legislative Summit, on Thursday said the 11 million illegal aliens in the United States “are already Americans.”

“Eleven million people living in the shadows I believed are already American citizens,” Biden said. “These people are just waiting, waiting for a chance to be able to contribute fully, and by that standard, 11 million undocumented aliens are already Americans in my view.”

Biden referenced former President Theodore Roosevelt’s 1894 speech titled “True Americanism.”

Report: Continued High Legal Immigration Levels Will Destroy GOP

    April 15, 2014

A new report from an anti-amnesty group has concluded that continued high-levels of immigration to the United States of America will destroy the Republican Party’s long-term prospects of winning future elections, a copy provided to Breitbart News shows.

“A comparison of voting patterns in presidential elections across counties over the last three decades shows that mass immigration has caused a steady drop in presidential Republican vote shares, particularly in the nation’s largest counties,” James G. Gimpel writes in a new Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) report out Tuesday morning. “Each one percentage-point increase in the immigrant share of a large county’s population reduces the Republican share of the two-party vote by nearly 0.6 percentage points on average.”

Gimpel cites three “key conclusions” that come from his 14-page analysis. First, the “enormous flow of legal immigrants” into America—nearly 30 million have come to America from 1980 to 2012—“has remade and continues to remake the nation’s electorate in favor of the Democratic Party.”

Second, Gimpel writes, the “partisan impact” of said immigration increases “is relatively uniform throughout the country.” He argues that Texas has been hit on the same ratio as Florida or even California, “even though local Republican parties have taken different positions on illegal immigration.”

Specifically, for instance, Republican parties in Texas are much tougher on illegal immigration than those in California—but suffer the same drastic political consequences that benefit Democrats when legal immigration is increased.

“The decline does not seem to vary with the local Republican Party’s position on illegal immigration,” Gimpel states, concluding that Republicans must deal with the tough issue of opposing a massive increase in legal immigration, rather than just opposing the easy-to-fight illegal immigration issue.

“Third, if legal immigration levels remain at the current levels of over one million a year, it will likely continue to undermine Republicans’ political prospects moving forward,” Gimpel writes. “Further, if the substantial increases in legal immigration in Senate’s Gang of Eight bill (S.744) were to become law it would accelerate this process. Conversely, lowering the level of legal immigration in the future would help stem the decline in the Republican vote.”

The report concludes that many immigrants prefer larger government, having “policy preferences when it comes to the size and scope of government that are more closely aligned with progressives than with conservatives.”

As such, immigrants identify as Democrats over self-describing as Republicans, according to survey data, at a two-to-one rate. Immigrants also, according to Gimpel, increase “income inequality” and add to the “low-income population,” therefore making all voters “more supportive of redistributive policies championed by Democrats to support disadvantaged populations.”

“There is evidence that immigration may cause more Republican-oriented voters to move away from areas of high immigrant settlement, leaving behind a more lopsided Democrat majority,” Gimpel asserts.

Gimpel reviews naturalization statistics for immigrants and how strongly in support of the Democratic Party they are—a trend toward progressivism that is increasing over time. In 2008, 55 percent of immigrant citizens were Democrats, while 30.9 percent were Republicans. Immigrant non-citizens that year clocked in at 70.6 percent Democrats and 15.9 percent Republicans.

In 2012, 62.5 percent of immigrant citizens registered as Democrats with only 24.6 percent registering as Republicans whereas 60.4 percent of immigrant non-citizens registered as Democrats and 16.8 percent immigrant non-citizens registered as Republicans.

    Gimpel notes:

With the Democratic bias in immigrant political preference so decisive, it is no surprise that the rise in immigrant populations should directly lead to ever-growing Democratic majorities in the places where immigrants settle, and declining electoral prospects for Republicans. The instrument of this partisan transformation is the directly observable political behavior of the immigrants themselves.

This report’s publication comes on the heels of a recent similar report from Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum, which examined how the conservative movement and conservative Republicanism would die out if a “Gang of Eight” Senate-style amnesty and massive illegal immigration increase occurred.

Obama's two-year 'amnesty' for illegal immigrant minors sparks TWELVE-FOLD spike in numbers pouring across border

    • A San Antonio Air Force base, a California Navy base, and a makeshift detention center in Nogales, Arizona have become temporary shelters for children and youths caught crossing the border without their parents
    • Republicans blame the Obama administration for the problem, citing a 2012 policy that relaxed deportations
    • It's 'an administration-made disaster,' says the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee
    • President Obama now concedes that it's an 'urgent humanitarian situation' and is setting aside $2 million to pay lawyers for the children
    • The US government expects as many as 80,000 child immigrants to illegally enter the US this year, a twelve-fold jump in just three years
    • More than 33,000 have been picked up in Texas since October; the Arizona facility has ordered 2,000 mattresses to handle its overload
    • 'Instead of having an application of the immigration law, we are taking mothers and children and dumping them,' another claimed
    • A federal judge castigated the Obama administration in December, saying it was 'completing the criminal mission' of human traffickers

President Barack Obama is calling tens of thousands of illegal-immigrant children languishing in temporary U.S. holding pens an 'urgent humanitarian situation,' but Republicans are pointing the finger of blame squarely at the White House.

Obama instituted an immigration policy that the GOP says enticed tens of thousands of Central American children to cross America's southern border illegally without any parents to guide them.
More than 33,000 have been picked up in Texas alone since October. The U.S. border patrol says its forces are overwhelmed, and the courts are bracing for a flood of immigration cases from children held in temporary detention facilities designed to handle a fraction of the numbers. Sanitation problems are beginning to rear their ugly heads.

Obama rolled out a controversial Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in 2012, allowing many illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as minors to escape deportation for two years. The White House gave them another two-year window last week.

As a result, say some GOP leaders, America's system for handling illegal immigration has been strained to the breaking point and is attracting hundreds of new illegal-immigrant children every day.
Compared to the year before Obama's policy took effect, twelve times as many kids are coming north illegally this year.

The mom had hired a smuggler to transport her daughter into the U.S., and was herself in the country illegally.
U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen wrote that 'this court is quite concerned with the apparent policy of the Department of Homeland Security of completing the criminal mission of those who are violating the border security of the United States.'
'The DHS,' Hanen added, 'should enforce the laws of the United States – not break them.'

Republicans on Capitol Hill are beyond angry.
Leaked photos from the base, which were obtained by the Breitbart.com news blog, show hundreds of children holed up in crowded concrete rooms, many of them sleeping on the bare floor without blankets or pillows.
'The recent surge of children and teenagers from Central America showing up at our southern border is an administration-made disaster,' Virginia GOP Rep. Bob Goodlatte, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, told Fox News last week.

'Word has gotten out around the world about President Obama's lax immigration enforcement policies and it has encouraged more individuals to come to the United States illegally,' Goodlatte said in a statement.
'Enforcement at the border and in the interior of the U.S.,' not 'another bureaucratic task force' is needed, he claimed.
Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, who sits on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said Friday that 'instead of having an application of the immigration law, we are taking mothers and children and dumping them ... and violating the rule[s] over and over.'

Policy shift: President Barack Obama announced on June 15, 2012 that the U.S. would stop deporting young illegal immigrants who satisfied a broad set of criteria; the move has enticed tens of thousands of children to sneak across the border even though the policy doesn't apply to them

The Obama administration expects as many as 80,000 of these 'unaccompanied minors' to cross the border in 2014, according to the Christian Science Monitor.
That number is twelve times what it was in 2011, the year before Obama announced his deferred-action plan.
The administration now estimates the holding facilities where the youngsters are being held cost taxpayers $252 per child per day, far more than the cost of a hotel and more than the children could expect to earn in two weeks of hard work picking crops, work that many were slated to do.

Facing the question of whether to deport the minors or play a game of catch-and-release, the administration has set aside $2 million to pay for their lawyers.
'We're taking a historic step to strengthen our justice system and protect the rights of the most vulnerable members of society,' Attorney General Eric Holder said Friday in a statement.
'How we treat those in need, particularly young people who must appear in immigration proceedings – many of whom are fleeing violence, persecution, abuse or trafficking – goes to the core of who we are as a nation.'
Obama's 'deferred action' program for minors, which he announced in a fanfare-laden June 15, 2012 Rose Garden press conference, applies only to children who came to America before mid-2007.
'It makes no sense to expel talented young people, who, for all intents and purposes, are Americans,' the president said then.

But Capitol Hill is rife with fears that the message was garbled by the time it reach Guatemala, Honduras and other countries where poverty runs rampant. Many children traveling north on their own hope the policy will include them.

That's what 'coyotes,' the smugglers who bring them in, are telling them to expect, according to Tania Chavez, a representative with La Union del Pueblo Entero, told KRGV-TV. in southern Texas.

The minors flooding over the border are often teenagers leaving behind poverty or violence in Mexico and other parts of Central America such as Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.
With the president traveling in Europe last week, there have been no press briefings at the White House where questions might be put to outgoing press secretary Jay Carney.
But Obama met privately Monday morning with a group of nurses from across the country 'to discuss the importance of passing commonsense immigration reform,' according to the White House.
The Associated Press reported Monday that in a May 30 memo to the National Security Council's transborder security directorate, Border Patrol Deputy Chief Ronald Vitiello warned that the influx of unexpected illegals has stretched the border patrol beyond reason.
But releasing them or reuniting them with family members in the United States would serve as 'incentives to additional individuals to follow the same path.'

In a December ruling, U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen ripped the Department of Homeland Security for releasing a Salvadoran girl to her mother – a woman who had hired a smuggler to transport her daughter into the U.S., and was herself in the country illegally.

Hanen wrote that 'this court is quite concerned with the apparent policy of the Department of Homeland Security of completing the criminal mission of those who are violating the border security of the United States.'
'The DHS,' he added, 'should enforce the laws of the United States – not break them.'

Judge Nap: Obama Directly Caused Surge of Immigrant Children at Border

by Fox News Insider // As seen on The Kelly File

A massive surge of illegal immigrants is underway, with newly leaked photos revealing hundreds of immigrant children packed like sardines in detention centers.

Illegal immigrant minors are crossing into the U.S., and border patrol is overwhelmed and unable to care for them. The government has been putting them on buses and “dumping” them on street corners in cities like Phoenix, Ariz. Military bases in Texas, California and Oklahoma are also being used to house them.

The problem could reportedly go from bad to worse. Officials say 6,560 unaccompanied minor aliens crossed the border in 2011. This year, it’s estimated that the number will jump to more than 90,000.

Unlike Mexican citizens, illegals from Central America can’t be sent home; they must be turned over to HHS and are released to family and friends.
“This is a crisis of the federal government’s creation, and the fact that the border remains unsecure – now apparently intentionally - while this operation continues full-steam ahead is deplorable,” Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said in a statement.

Judge Andrew Napolitano weighed in tonight on “The Kelly File,” blaming the president for not enforcing the law.

“The president of the United States personally and directly caused this with a telephone and a pen,” he said, explaining that Obama has been encouraging illegal aliens.

Filmmaker Dennis Michael Lynch has been warning of this crisis.

Entire villages are emptying out and coming from Central America through Mexico to the United States,” he told Megyn Kelly tonight, calling this “the tip of the iceberg.”

Now, the administration is asking for $2 billion to address the issue.

“This may energize the president’s base for the November elections, but this will totally alienate independents and middle Americans who will have to pay for this,” Napolitano said.

The judge said the government is giving free food, shelter, clothing, health care, education and lawyers to these children.

“This is the same government that dumps them on a street corner. If any of us dumped children on a street corner, we would be arrested for child abuse,” he said.

Obama Offers Mini-Amnesty To 200,000 Kids By 2016

    8:18 PM 06/02/2014

    Neil Munro
    White House Correspondent

White House officials said Monday that they are treating a wave of youthful illegal immigrants as a “humanitarian situation” that requires billions of dollars in aid for shelter, nutrition, health care and education.

Officials are not treating the expected influx of 60,000 youths this year — and perhaps 130,000 in 2015 — as a wave of illegal immigrants that should be returned home.

Instead, officials are spending taxpayer funds, and converting parts of at least two military facilities, to cater to the illegals and to transport them to their illegal-immigrant parents elsewhere in the United States.

“In general, significant numbers do have family members in the United States” who can pick up their kids from the federal facilities, said Cecilia Munoz, President Barack Obama’s top domestic adviser.

Officials expect the inflow to reach 130,000 in 2015, up more than 20-fold from the 2011 influx of 6,000 youths.

The fast-growing influx creates a political opportunities and risks for GOP leaders and for progressives.

If GOP leaders say that the influx is being spurred by Obama’s public support for illegal immigrants and amnesty, then progressives can argue that GOP politicians are heartless enemies of Latinos in the months before the critical November election.

But if GOP leaders don’t protest the flood, then Obama can use his support for the illegals to build emotional support among Latinos, regardless of mass immigration’s harmful impact on American job seekers and recent low-wage immigrants.

A recent poll of 1,354 adults by Associated Press-GfK polling showed that 84 percent of Americans say illegal immigration is a serious problem — including 53 percent who say it is very or extremely serious — while only 13 percent say it is “not too serious,” or not serious at all.

So Obama’s effective support for this new wave of illegal immigrants may not play well with swing voters more opposed the Senate’s 2013 immigration bill. If made law, the Senate’s bill would double the annual inflow of legal immigrants and guest workers — to roughly four million per year for the next 10 years. That annual inflow would be roughly equal to the numbers of American youths who turn 18 each year.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte, the GOP chairman of the House judiciary panel, has taken a cautious line so far. “The recent surge of children and teenagers from Central America showing up at our Southern border is an Administration-made disaster,” he said in a June 2 statement.

“Word has gotten out around the world about President Obama’s lax immigration enforcement policies and it has encouraged more individuals to come to the United States illegally. … Enforcement at the border and in the interior of the U.S. is crucial to end these kinds of situations, not another bureaucratic task force,” he said.

“Illegal border crossing is extremely dangerous and many of these children encounter drug and human traffickers along the way. … The House Judiciary Committee intends to hold a hearing on this troubling issue in the coming weeks,” said his statement.

White House officials have asked Congress to approve $1.4 billion to care for the youth and to help them get to their destinations in the United States.

In the June 2 phone call with reporters, Obama’s deputies made clear their focus is the welfare of the young illegal immigrants, not of Americans.

“Our primary mission is to ensure the [youth] are properly cared for,” said Munoz, who formerly headed an ethnic advocacy group for Latinos, the National Council of La Raza.

Many of the youth come from countries that do not have a border with the United States, so “the law doesn’t provide for expedited removal of these kids,” she said.

Officials told reporters on June 2 they would try to warn other children not to journey north to the United States, and would seek to counter the underlying causes.

But they did not promise any major announcement that would deter the youths from undertaking the dangerous trip. Instead, they said they would work with incompetent governments in Central America to warn would-be immigrants about the dangers.

Munoz dismissed evidence that the wave of illegal immigration is being caused by Obama’s support for amnesties for illegal-immigrant youths.

Exclusive–Sen. Jeff Sessions: Obama 'Committed to Escalating' Lawlessness at Border

by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) 9 Jun 2014 post a comment

There is now an unprecedented crisis unfolding at the border. The flow of illegal immigrant youth across the southern border is on track to reach 130,000 next year—a projected increase of more than 2,000% from 2011. The White House estimates the cost of “resettling” these illegal immigrants in the United States will reach $2.3 billion in a single year.

This crisis is a direct and predictable result of the President’s sustained and deliberate campaign to dismantle immigration enforcement. His administration has announced to the world that our nation’s immigration laws will not be enforced and that, in particular, they will not be applied to foreign youth.

The world has heard and heeded the President’s message. A wave of illegal immigration has overwhelmed authorities, producing a completely preventable humanitarian crisis—and further diminishing the integrity of our national borders. And there is but one way for the crisis to end: for the President of the United States to declare to the world: "Do not attempt to come here illegally. Our border is no longer open. Our laws will be enforced."

A local TV station in Texas recently issued a telling report. They revealed that information is being disseminated in Central America urging people to make the life-threatening trek north in pursuit of amnesty: "A mother and child told Channel 5 News that the message being disseminated in their country is, 'go to America with your child, you won't be turned away.'"

The New York Times reported last week that an illegal immigrant youth said: “If you make it, they take you to a shelter and take care of you and let you have permission to stay… When you appeal your case, if you say you want to study, they support you.”

In response to this emergency, the Administration has taken steps to incentivize even more illegal immigration. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson—who swore an oath to uphold the law—just last week announced that 560,000 illegal immigrants will be given formal work authorization in the United States despite average unemployment rates of 20 percent for American teenagers without high school diplomas. Meanwhile, the President’s Labor Department has unilaterally authorized the admission of an additional 100,000 guest workers to compete against unemployed Americans. Among those who suffer the most as a result of these policies are African-American and Hispanic youth.

Secretary Johnson went on to emphasize that the United States will continue exempting foreign youth from America’s immigration laws. He explained:

“almost all of us agree that a child who crossed our border illegally with a parent, or in search of a parent or a better life, was not making an adult choice to break our laws and should be treated differently than adult law-breakers.” In effect, Mr. Johnson is signaling to everyone in the world: if you come here by a certain age you will get amnesty and, ultimately, so will your family. It is a recipe for permanent lawlessness, open borders, and a continuing humanitarian catastrophe. (It must also be noted that many of those crossing illegally do not have parents, or even relatives, in the United States. And many of them are not minors at all.)

The nation’s chief law enforcement officer, Eric Holder, has even described amnesty as a “civil right.” Of course, if amnesty is a civil right then immigration laws can never be enforced and amnesty can never be denied, because such rights are immutable.

Cecilia Muñoz, who runs immigration policy for the White House—and who is a former executive for the open borders group La Raza—also likened amnesty to a civil right. And only days ago she absurdly argued that the surge in illegal immigration bears no relation to the President’s suspension of immigration laws or campaign for amnesty. As Breitbart News reported: "Muñoz pushed back against the idea that the influx could be due to discussions of [amnesty]… 'Neither the bill which passed the Senate last year, nor the deferred action program for childhood arrivals would benefit these kids,' she continued. 'They both have cutoff dates. You had to have been in the country by a particular date in order to qualify for either of those things.’”
Perhaps an earlier report from the New York Times provides the best rebuttal to Ms. Munoz:

With detention facilities, asylum offices and immigration courts overwhelmed, enough migrants have been released temporarily in the United States that back home in Central America people have heard that those who make it to American soil have a good chance of staying. "Word has gotten out that we’re giving people permission and walking them out the door," said Chris Cabrera, a Border Patrol agent who is vice president of the local of the National Border Patrol Council, the agents’ union. "So they’re coming across in droves."

For all practical purposes, the Administration’s policy is that anyone in the world, of any age, is free to come and stay in the interior of the United States, to illegally work and receive taxpayer benefits, so long as they are not caught, tried, and convicted of a serious crime. And even then, thousands of criminal aliens are released each and every year.

Unfortunately, the President remains committed to escalating—rather than ending—the lawlessness. It therefore falls on the shoulders of Republicans alone to make the case for new leadership that will restore America’s borders. Republicans are the last line of defense for the American worker. They are the last bulwark for the rule of law.

That means prominent Republicans must cease issuing ill-conceived statements that it is somehow morally or legally improper for the United States to apply immigration laws to illegal immigrants who arrive by a certain age. As USCIS Council President Kenneth Palinkas has warned, these arguments will produce not merely a one-time amnesty but a “perpetual amnesty.” Palinkas explained that such promises lead to “extending birthright citizenship in the future to include the foreign citizens of other countries” (as opposed to the children of illegal immigrants born in the U.S.). It cannot be the policy of the United States that any of the 2 billion people in the world who have yet turn to turn 18 have a right to illegally enter the United States and claim residency.

For the law enforcement to function, lawmakers and law officers must encourage—not discourage—the law’s application.

Imagine, for instance, that the Administration announced it would no longer enforce any tax fraud violations in amounts under $1 million, as a matter of “prosecutorial discretion.” Would we not see a massive spike in tax fraud in amounts less than a million dollars? It would be a unilateral repeal of an entire section of the criminal code by the Executive Branch. Now further imagine the Administration expanded the policy to say that tax fraud—in any amount—will be permitted so long as the proceeds are transferred to a minor relative. After all, this minor, the Administration argues, received the money “through no fault of their own” and so it would be morally improper to apply the law in such cases—it would be a violation of their “civil rights.” Does anyone doubt this would lead to a total collapse of tax enforcement nationwide?

Of course not. Yet this administration has effectively adopted the philosophy that immigration law, on its own, cannot be enforced in the interior of the United States and that, further, foreign nationals who arrive by a certain age—and their relatives—have a “right” to become citizens of the United States.

It is time for the GOP to look the American people in the eye and say: We will end the chaos. We will stop the lawlessness. And we will restore for the American people the immigration protections that have been callously stripped away by this Administration.

Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is the Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee and former Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee. He is also a former U.S. Attorney and Attorney General for the State of Alabama.

Internal Border Patrol Email: Unaccompanied Child Crisis is "Unprecedented"

    Katie Pavlich | Jun 10, 2014

As the unaccompanied child crisis along our southern border with Mexico continues to overwhelm the system, an internal Border Patrol email obtained by Townhall shows Tucson Sector Chief Border Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla Jr. calling the situation "unprecedented," comparable to humanitarian disasters like hurricanes and confirms illegal immigrant children are being treated and processed as refugees.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I wanted to provide you with information regarding the Nogales Placement Center (NPC). I believe that it is important for all of us to have an understanding of the humanitarian effort that is ongoing nationwide as it relates to unaccompanied children, primarily from Central America.

There has been an influx of unaccompanied children that have been detained throughout the southwest border, primarily in South Texas, to a level that has overwhelmed the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) transition sites. This dynamic has caused the Border Patrol to hold these children at different locations while the transition to ORR takes place. In Tucson Sector, we are using the NPC as a transition point," Padilla wrote in a June 6 email to Tucson Sector Border Patrol. "As of this writing, there are hundreds of children being cared for at the center. This is an unprecedented mission for agents and mission support personnel at the Tucson Sector."

Padilla added that children are being medically screened and processed to ensure their well being. Children are being constantly monitored.

"Throughout the years, I have had the opportunity to be involved in missions that are outside the scope of border security. It is reassuring to see that when our agency is confronted with a non-traditional mission, our personnel is quick to learn the role, adapt to the situation, and perform in admirable ways," Padilla wrote. "This humanitarian effort if reminiscent of the hurricane relief efforts, humanitarian search and rescue missions during floods and other disasters where the Border Patrol has lived up to his legacy."

Because of the large number of children overwhelming the system and needing processing, Border Patrol agents have been pulled off the border to help with paper work and oversight at detention facilities, leaving wide gaps of the border without patrol.

Yesterday CBS News Dallas reported that nearly half of Border Patrol agents are doing paper work rather than patrolling the border in Texas.

“Almost 40 percent of the Border Patrol Agents are not at the border they’re actually filling out paperwork, transporting, feeding, moving these folks around," Democrat Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar told the news outlet.

Agents in Arizona are in the same situation.

"We have all of these juveniles so they're pulling agents out of the field to come in and babysit them basically," a source said last week. "They're cancelling some of our specialty details for our crews who go out and work the mountains, calling them back in and telling them they have to work the processing center because there are so many people in there."

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake plans to question Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson about the ongoing crisis when he testifies on Capitol Hill Wednesday.

"Clearly, these events are disturbing and the situation unacceptable," Flake said in a statement to Townhall. "I am pressing the issue this week in Washington forward to getting some answers from Secretary Johnson when he testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday."

After Leaked Photos Expose Unaccompanied Child Crisis, Border Patrol Agents Threatened With Firings

    Katie Pavlich | Jun 09, 2014

Last week, photos surfaced from Texas and Arizona showing Border Patrol processing centers overwhelmed as thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America continue to need shelter and resources. The photos show hundreds of children sleeping in crowded, chain linked cages. Agents have described the situation as a humanitarian crisis.

In response to the leaked images out of Arizona, Patrol Agent in Charge Leslie Lawson is cracking down on the use of personal technology by agents in the Nogales Border Patrol processing center.

"Due to the recent unauthorized use of a personally owned electronic device in the Nogales Processing Center, the use of such devices will be restricted to locations outside of detention areas," Lawson wrote in a June 6 memo to all employees at the Nogales station. "Effective immediately, the use of personally owned cellular phones, cameras, or recording devices in the Nogales Detention Facility and the Nogales Processing Center is strictly prohibited.

All personnel working or visiting detention facilities at the Nogales Station will be required to turn off these electronic devices and store them in a locker other secure location prior to entering the detention area."

According to sources, agents have been threatened with firings if found to have leaked the photos to media.

"They are looking to fire any agents involved," one source said anonymously for fear of losing their job.

"Apparently they are so ticked over these photos that they are going to fire the person that leaked them," another source said.

You can view Lawson's entire memo below.

Obama looks like he's going to go for the Brass Ring! Full on bans and confiscation!

President Barack Obama Tuesday suggested that the U.S. government should follow Australia’s example in dealing with shooting sprees, which involved strict gun bans on semiautomatic and automatic weapons.

“Australia had a mass shooting [in 1996] similar to Columbine and Newtown, and just said, ‘That’s it, we’re not seeing that again,’ and basically imposed very severe tough gun laws and they haven’t had a mass shooting since,” Obama said, after he was asked for his reaction to recent shooting episodes in California and Oregon. Those laws included the confiscation of nearly all handguns and rifles.

“We can have respect for the Second Amendment and responsible hunters and sportsmen can have possess weapons,” Obama told an audience of students during a broadcast on the Tumblr website.

But the country needs “commonsense rules in place that make a dent in what’s happening,” he said, after an emotional appeal to the students and young people who were watching the Tumblr broadcast, which was advertised as a question-and-answer session about student debt.

Australia also instituted a gun buy-back program and a national registery and licensing system in the wake of the April 1996 mass shooting.

Obama’s statement is likely to cause heartburn for Democratic candidates in Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas and other states where gun rights are valued.

But it may also spur turnout among young Democratic voters, who are demoralized by the lousy Obama economy.

Obama’s comments on guns came after the host asked him about the recent shootings, and Obama replied with an unusually emotional pitch.

“My greatest frustration so far is that this society has not been willing to take some basic steps to keep guns out of the hands of people you know who can do just unbelievable damage,” he said.

“We’re the only developed country on Earth where this happens. … Our level of gun violence is off the charts. There’s no advanced developing country on Earth that would put up with this,” he said.

Obama dismissed the argument that shootings are not the fault of the mental health of Americans. ”The U.S. does not have a monopoly on crazy people, it’s not the only country that has psychosis, and yet we kill each other in these mass shootings at rates that are exponentially higher than anyplace else,” Obama said.

Obama did refer to the Second Amendment, but didn’t describe the limits that it imposes on government. “We have a Second Amendment, we have historically respected gun rights, I respect gun rights, but the idea that we could not get a background check [into law] … makes no sense,” he complained.

“I’ve been in Washington, and most things don’t surprise me, [but] the fact that 20 six-year-olds were gunned down in the most violent fashion possible and this town could not do anything about it, was stunning to me,” he said about the Newtown shooting in December 2012.

“If public opinion does not demand a change in Congress, it will not change,” he said.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."
    -- Theodore Roosevelt

Dear Obama... go ahead, ban our guns.

    We won't give them up.

We will come for a dictator.

    He won't win.
