This speaks to the need for packet radio and ham radio in general. I am surprised your friend in South America isn't a ham operator, but then again I still haven't gotten my liscense either.

He is not exceedingly tech savvy is all. A great guy and I am glad to have him as a friend. If I ever must say good bye US, that is where I may go.

Strongly, STONGLY suggest you all sit down and look at the minimum of a technician license, AS SOON as you can.

Questions, I can and will answer.

Also... go to the www.arrl.org site, hit www.qrz.org (I think, I'll check the links) and there should be practice tests there.

    It's very easy.

I'm having trouble with the TAA site loading slowly. I'm uncertain if the problem is local or with the site itself. Can anyone give some clarity?

Problem is with the site and has been ongoing for about the last 2 weeks by my estimation.

I need to open up a trouble ticket with our hosting service. Have had a lot of real life stuff keeping me busy recently and haven't had a chance.

Our hosting term is up in September. Rest assured we will be finding a better performing and more reliable host at that time.

Apologies for the inconvenience to everyone.

As the one who recommended our host, it was a great host for many years, but somehow they do seem to be dropping in greatness lately.

No worries Phil. I'm sure they're fine for static websites but it seems like they really drop the ball when it comes to dynamic content served up from a database.

Admittedly we're on a shared server but the truth is we're a low volume site and, unless they're "overbooking" their servers or their equipment sucks, we should not be having the constant database issues we are. Though there were occasional issues we never had this scale of problems when the site was hosted on a GoDaddy shared server.

It really seems to be something else. All over the web there are hick ups and slow downs. I suspect there is so much incoming ddos and other attack types that network admins are daily and hourly scrambling to keep the integrity of the network up.

In Chrome browser only, go to http://maps.ipviking.com. It is optimized to chrome and is the only use I have for chrome.

I just tried the link is my 64bit Firefox flavor and it works now and did not used to.

    A quick update.

I've been in touch with our hosting service's tech support this evening.

They informed me that they weren't able to find any errors in their logs with our site. I provided them a sample of email notifications I received from the site when it was unable to connect to the database or otherwise experiencing database issues. They then told me that the site is scheduled to be migrated to a new, better equipped server (with SSDs) in the immediate future and were fully prepared to do it tonight if I wanted. I told them to minimize impact on everyone using the site to schedule it for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday overnight. As of now the migration will take place Sunday.

I haven't been provided any details on what this will entail or what is needed from me but I will be sure to get it taken care of. The site may be offline for a bit at this time. I'll be doing a full backup Saturday just in case.

Sounds like they are really on the ball there. I am relieved to know this.

We should be back 100% now. There wasn't really much I had to do except make a backup of the site for the move.

Looks like we were only down overnight while the new IP address propagated to the DNS servers. Seems page load times are improved from my end.

If anyone has any problems, please let me know!
