One dead in U.S. Navy SEAL training accident at Fort Knox

    WASHINGTON | Fri May 17, 2013 11:51am EDT

(Reuters) - A U.S. Navy enlisted man was killed and as many as seven people were injured when their Humvee vehicle rolled over during a training exercise for elite SEAL forces at Fort Knox, Kentucky, a SEAL spokesman said on Friday.

The accident occurred at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and the cause remains under investigation, said Lieutenant David Lloyd, a spokesman for Navy Special Warfare Group 2. The group comprises the four SEAL teams (Sea, Air, Land Teams) on the U.S. East Coast.

Five to seven people were injured, and all but two of those involved in the accident were Navy SEALs, he said.

The deadly training accident was at least the second in the United States since March, when a mortar explosion killed seven Marines and injured eight service members in Nevada.
