Hillary Clinton named 2013 Liberty Medal recipient

AP Associated Press, JOANN LOVIGLIO 17 hours ago

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose lifelong public service career includes turns as secretary of state, presidential candidate, senator and first lady, is the recipient of the 2013 Liberty Medal.

Clinton will receive the medal in a Sept. 10 ceremony at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. She was not in attendance for Thursday's announcement.

Liberty Medal sponsors and partners said Clinton's nearly four decades of public service exemplify the qualities that the award was established to honor, from her groundbreaking outreach to global leaders to her continuing work to advance opportunities for the world's girls and women.

"The Liberty Medal recognizes individuals who have furthered the ideals of freedom, democracy, and equality, often against great odds," said Jeffrey Rosen, National Constitution Center president and CEO. "Hillary Clinton has devoted her life to expanding opportunities for 'We the People' not just in this country but around the globe."

Liberty Medal sponsors cited Clinton's work as secretary of state from Jan. 2009 to Feb. 2013, when she traveled to 80-plus countries — more than any of her predecessors — "as a champion of human rights, democracy, civil society and opportunities for women and girls around the world."

They also noted her bipartisan efforts as first lady in support of affordable health care and her work as U.S. senator from New York to secure more than $20 billion after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks for the city and its first responders.

"Former Secretary Clinton has dedicated her life to serving and engaging people across the world in democracy," former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, chairman of the National Constitution Center, said in a statement.

Previous recipients of the medal, which was established in 1988 to celebrate the bicentennial of the Constitution, include rock singer and human rights activist Bono, former South African President Nelson Mandela and former President Jimmy Carter.
Six winners have subsequently received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, and former President George H.W. Bush were jointly awarded the Liberty Medal in 2006 for their efforts helping victims of Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in southeast Asia. Both went on to serve terms as chairmen of the National Constitution Center.

The National Constitution Center, which opened in 2003 near Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, is dedicated to increasing public understanding of the Constitution through its museum exhibits, public lectures and debates, and educational outreach and research.

Well, you know I never believed in this bullshit about New World Order, or that there was any connection between two diametrically opposed parties.

But today - actually a few weeks back, I finally realized that they are all in politics FOR THEMSELVES. Not for us.

Even Rubio pissed me off. he was a Tea Party candidate. What is he now? An illegal immigrant lover who wants them all to be legal... you know "so we know who they are".

What kind of BULLSHIT is this?

Jeb BUSH giving anything to Hillary except SHIT is wrong.

    Sorry.

I'm done with politics. And I don't plan to stop bitching about it.

    Perfect place for it Toad.

And Rick, it's not NWO or anything like that. It's plain old Communism and we were warned about it decades ago:

    15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
    And there it is...

    Well, you know...

    'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
    By any other name would smell as sweet;

    Or as deadly.....

Wonder if they're setting us up for a 3-peat defeat from 2008 and 2012...

    Bush/Palin 2016 called 'the GOP's only chance'

By Jennifer Harper - The Washington Times

    June 28, 2013, 11:54AM

    Recent Entries

Earlier this year, Jeb Bush told ABC that both his father George H.W. Bush, and brother George W. recommended he run for president in 2016. Mama Barbara Bush is not keen on the idea, declaring in April that “the nation’s probably had enough Bushes.”

But in the constantly shifting equations of potential Republican hopefuls for future president and vice president, the former Florida governor’s name has been tied with another former governor: Sarah Palin.

The pair have now been framed as a “the GOP’s only chance” in the race by American Thinker contributor Michael Sheppard.

“Would Jeb Bush have as good a chance, or better, than any other prospective GOP candidate? Most certainly he might. As a popular governor of Florida, married to a Hispanic, and who garnered a good proportion of the Hispanic vote, Bush would be in a strong position to carry the state,” he says, reasoning that Mr. Bush, as a southern governor, could also hold sway in Virginia and appeal to Iowa evangelicals and centrist voters in New Hampshire.

Should Hillary Clinton emerge as the Democratic candidate, it could also improve Mr. Bush’s “electability”. Then there is the Palin factor, Mr. Sheppard says. She brings ardent fans with her, of course.

“A Jeb Bush/president - Sarah Palin/vice-president ticket covers all the Electoral College, Evangelical, pro-life, centrist-conservative, experienced governorships, male/female bases,” he notes.

“Both are strongly vetted and most certainly there is nothing in Palin’s life that has not be diced and sliced, disproved and shown to be a product of leftist hate. Even in liberal circles there has been grudging acceptance that Jeb Bush ran a successful administration in Florida and that he is ‘not George W.’ “

Mr. Sheppard continues, “Palin is not the media neophyte she was in 2008, and never again would be the subject of the astonishing MSM/Blogosphere hate and ambush that she was then. A Bush/Palin team would be a candidacy of ideas, from experienced campaigners, which would have to be addressed by the opposition media and Dem’s without the distraction of lurid media ‘scandals’.”

He ultimately concludes, “The Palin/Bush pairing would see the rifts in the GOP healed over, a united team with massive resources in finance, manpower and credibility, and a very real path to Electoral College victory - an historic compromise for the restoration of a conservative America. All this is moot of course if the immigration crisis splits the GOP asunder - which might well lead be a Bush versus Palin primary campaign.”

But hey. If vice president, Part II doesn’t suit Mrs. Palin, there’s always the U.S. Senate. Last month the Tea Party Leadership Fund launched an effort to draft her to run against Sen. Mark Begich, Alaska Democrat, in 2014.

“You and I both know that Sarah Palin is a fighter who will stand up to Harry Reid and his pals in the Senate to protect our Constitution in issues like amnesty, gun control and our nation’s crushing debt,” organizer Todd Cefaratti told followers in an email. “We know that, with Sarah in the Senate, conservatives across America can rest a little easier at night knowing that she’s at the watch.”

See Mr. Sheppard’s complete story here.

If Bush/Palin is the GOPs only hope, the GOP is screwed already. Palin will never sign on to another moderate/neo-con ticket, or bother with VP position. And I know we've had this arguement before, but she's unelectable. I believed that 6 years ago, she was part of a losing ticket, and I believe that now.

I won't vote for Jeb Bush. I don't care who he'd be up against. Anyone less than a strict Constitutionalist on the R ticket won't matter. We're screwed anyway.
