“Let me tell you: You take on the intelligence community — they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Tuesday evening on MSNBC after host Rachel Maddow informed him that intelligence sources told NBC news that the briefing had not been delayed.

“So, even for a practical supposedly hard-nosed businessman, he’s being really dumb to do this,” he added.

No-one amid all current tentacles and story lines is at a higher risk from a President-Elect Donald Trump full public vetting of the intelligence community than former Obama CIA Director Leon Panetta.

When President Obama signed the original 2011 ‘finding memo’ authorizing covert CIA action in Libya it was Leon Panetta who carried it out. Both the Libyan intervention and the initial Syrian intervention were joint White House regime change operations began during Hillary Clinton’s tenure. Leon Panetta and Hillary Clinton were both carrying out Obama’s policy.

However, once things collapsed in Libya, and Chris Stephens was killed, Leon Panetta did not carry the same escape cards afforded to Clinton and the White House. Panetta’s ability to escape unscathed was always further down the list of protected personages.

In the aftermath of Benghazi Panetta has carried that risk for years. If the DC intelligence community stopped kicking the can down the road, or if the DC intelligence community were blocked from kicking that can (Trump), it has always been accepted that Leon Panetta would be the last man standing in a game of deadly political dodge ball.

Hence, there he sits today in an interview with Wolf Blitzer, visibly sweating bullets, hoping and praying the incoming administration will not sunlight his swamp.

Understanding the previous recording of Secretary John Kerry is half of the back-story surrounding Panetta’s involvement. That explosive audio recording surrounded President Obama’s planned intervention in Syria, and Secretary Kerry’s efforts to carry out the policy of regime change – the removal of Bashir Assad.

However, before Secretary Kerry and Director Brennan (Syrian regime change), there was Secretary Clinton and Director Panetta (Libyan regime change):

Hillary Rodham Clinton, Leon PanettaThe Libyan uprising began on February 10th of 2011, and we know that sometime around the end of February 2011 President Obama signed a presidential directive authorizing the State Dept and CIA to begin a covert operation to arm the Libyan “rebels”.

Operation “Zero Footprint” began. Secretary Clinton and Leon Panetta were the policy team carrying out the objective.

There was, as we previously outlined, also a Second Presidential Finding Memo authorizing additional CIA covert action in 2012, this time in Syria. Again, Secretary Clinton on policy team, however now David Petraeus was CIA director.

Leon Panetta was the CIA Director when Libyan CIA operations were authorized and began, but he left the CIA about 4 months later (June 30th, 2011) and became Defense Secretary. Panetta was replace in the CIA by General David Petraeus (August/Sept 2011).

We know Operation Zero Footprint was the covert transfer of weapons from the U.S to the Libyan “rebels”. We also know the operation avoided the concerns with congressional funding, and potential for public scrutiny, through financing by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

We also know that officials within the government of Qatar served as the intermediaries for the actual transfer of the Libyan destined weapons, thereby removing the footprint of the U.S. intervention.

We know the entire operation was coordinated and controlled by the State Department and CIA. We also know (from the Senate Foreign Relations Benghazi hearings) that “Zero Footprint” was unknown to the 2011 Pentagon and/or DoD commanders. Defense Secretary Bob Gates, Joint Chiefs Chair Admiral Mike Mullen and AFRICOM Commander General Carter Ham were notably out of the loop.



Both 2011 Defense Secretary Gates and Joint Chief Mullen had testified to congress they were opposed to any Libyan intervention, and the U.S. was under no direct national security threat from Libya.

Gates and Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told members of the House Armed Services panel that many other countries have the ability to train and support the rebels: “My view would be, if there is going to be that kind of assistance to the opposition, there are plenty of sources for it other than the United States,” said Gates. “Somebody else should do that.” – link – Neither Gates nor Mullen knew anything about the covert CIA operations underway at the time of their testimony.

In hindsight we are now fully aware that unknown to both Mullen and Gates -at the time they were speaking- was President Obama having authorized Operation Zero Footprint several weeks earlier, and Leon Panetta was carrying it out.

We now know against the March/April 2011 backdrop of growing information about al-Qaeda’s presence within the rebel units – there was a genuine difference of opinion on whether even getting involved was a good idea. The Defense Department (Gates, Mullen) was saying no, the State Department (Clinton, Susan Rice, S Power), was saying yes.

Meanwhile, the White House policy construct ensured that Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta were essentially operating under the radar of the Pentagon and well outside the wire of traditional oversight. However, the congressional intelligence “Gang of Eight”, would have been informed of the Presidential authorizations in Libya ’11, and Syria ’12.

The Gang of Eight in 2011 would have included: Speaker – John Boehner, Minority Leader – Nancy Pelosi; House Permanent Select Committee on Intel Chairman – Mike Rogers, and his Democrat counterpart Charles Ruppersberger; Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid; along with Senate Intel Chair Diane Feinstein and her Republican counterpart, Saxby Chambliss.

In the aftermath of the September 11th 2012 Benghazi attack, we know from Hillary interviews and testimony the White House liaison for Secretary Clinton and CIA Director Leon Panetta during the Libyan operation was National Security Advisor To the President, Tom Donilon.

President Obama authorized arming the Libyan rebels, but the covert nature of Zero Footprint reflected the political filter through which all Obama White House decisions are made. If the “Libyan rebels” were al-Qaeda, the covert-op lends plausible deniability to the policy, if things go wrong.

In 2017 hindsight we can clearly see the motive for what was called the “Benghazi narrative”. The White House needed the escape hatch because they, through the program initiated by Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta, were arming al-Qaeda; and on September 11th 2012 it did go horribly and publicly wrong.

ROBERT STEELE: I was expecting better from the US IC.I expected fabricated evidence that would be superficially compelling, I did not expect a complete cop-out totally off the mark — out of 14 pages only 1 page in the aggregate focuses on covert cyber, the other 13 pages focus on overt media.

This report boils down to a summary of one of the more successful national Information Operations (IO) programs centered on Russia Today (RT) and the use of social media to do what the US quaintly calls “Public Diplomacy.” This is a dishonest politically-motivated report that would cause me, if I had the power to do so, to retire everyone associated with this disinformation — this is a form of lying to the president and lying to the public.

It is significant that this report is not from all seventeen agencies and not from the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). I have the impression everyone else has washed their hands on this one.

Virtually the entire report is focused on Russia’s ethical, legal, overt media operations. There are exactly three accusations, all without evidence: that Guccifer, a Romanian taxi driver, is a principal agent of the Russian military intelligence service; and that the Russians provided emails obtained covertly to DCLeaks and to WikiLeaks. All three assertions lack evidentiary support (I am pretty sure the classified version does not support these assertions with credible evidence).

I find the report deficient in five specific ways:

01 There is no credible evidence the Russians actually leaked anything and no responsible examination of the countervailing evidence from everyone else including NSA and CIA insiders such as I provide in my long post, see Update 17 particularly, Robert Steele: US IC Allegations Against Russians Are Crap — Our Own Traitors, Not the Russians, Are the Real Enemy, Fake Evidence & Fake News – UPDATE 22

02 There is no context with respect to the influence activities by Israel on behalf of Hillary Clinton that were far more extensive, as well as the cyber-activities of everyone else including China, France, and Germany. Nor is there any admission with respect to the fact that NSA does more spying on all US politicians than all the foreign services combined and that NSA insiders have said they leaked some of the emails. Nor is there any discussion of the degree to which Facebook, Google, Twitter, and YouTube actively violated legal due process and free speech rights by both censoring critical information about Hillary Clinton and manipulating search results to equate Donald Trump to Hitler. Nor is there discussion of George Soros and his illegal activities inciting riots and funding violence against Donald Trump and Donald Trump supporters.

03 There is no discussion whatever of the proven ballot tampering by Hillary Clinton in stealing thirteen primaries from Bernie Sanders, and no discussion of the larger context in which a two-party tyranny disenfranchises 70% of the US eligible voters. The Russian IO in relation to this election was, at best, shouting from the sidelines — it was the two-party tyranny that “hacked” the election, as I document in my Kindle Short also free online, Donald Trump, The Accidental President, Under Siege. The US system is RIGGED twelve different ways, as I document in RIGGED: Twelve Ways the Two-Party Tyranny Rigs the US Electoral System to Block Out Independents, Small Parties, and 70% of the Eligible Voters. The deep hypocrisy in this report will further reduce public acceptance of the secret intelligence community’s value.

04 There is no discussion whatever of the degree to which Russia Today (RT) — evidently considered “weaponized information” by the CIA — is offering the truth to the US public (for example, on fracking) versus the lies disseminated as official narrative with the full complicity of the “fake news” media. Indeed, the report was supposed to focus exclusively on covert Russian cyber-operations — the bulk of the report focuses on — with beautiful illustrations — ethical, legal, overt Russian media operations. This was supposed to be a report about covert cyber, not overt media. Out of 14 pages, no more than one page in the aggregate focuses on covert cyber.

05 There is no discussion whatever of the degree to which the CIA and various other green/black elements of the US Government (USG) spend over 5 billion dollars a year on propaganda and another 5 billion a year on cyber-espionage while spending at least 1 billion a year on “agents of influence.” The report also fails to point out that intervening in foreign elections, manipulating foreign policy and spending decisions, and creating terrorist, insurgent, and opposition groups against other governments, is what CIA considers its most central activity. No discussion of torture, drone assassinations, elective wars on the basis of 935 now-documented lies, all the other stuff that we have done — including regime change in Syria and training Chechen “terrorists” in Syria to send back to Russia.

This pathetic piece of work did not require more than two hours to dismiss. Were I in a position to do so, I would demand a holistic report that presents, in a side by side comparative fashion, the degree to which NSA, the Israelis, the Russians, the Chinese, and other assorted powers are conducting cyber-espionage; to be followed by a side by side comparison of US cyber-espionage against each of those powers (largely ineffective in part because we process less than 1% of what we collect).

In a second separate section of the report, I would demand that a comprehensive evaluation be provided of the actual history of electronic ballot tampering from 2000 to date, by each of the two US political parties that disenfranchise six other accredited national political parties (Constitution, Green, Libertarian, Natural Law, Reform, and Socialists) as well as all Independents — 70% of the eligible voters.

Finally, in a third section of the report, I would demand a summary overview of the 200+ instances when CIA and the US military have “killed hope” through regime change, assassination, induces catastrophes, and direct elective invasions, as well as election intervention, to include the salvation of the Nazis and their treasure by CIA as WWII came to an end; the restoration by CIA of fascist politicians in the aftermath of WWII, the financial sponsorship of dictators, and the Gold War against Russia managed by Buzzy Krongard out of CIA from 1998 to 2001.

I would also ask for an Annex focused on George Soros and the Color Revolutions as well as the various forms of both legal and illegal protest activities that Soros has sponsored, not only overseas, but within the USA.

The US Intelligence Community lacks both intelligence and integrity. Until its stops spying on US politicians, and stops retarding the security of US communications and computing for its own convenience, we will not have safe private communications. It is worthy of reminding ourselves that Ellen Siedman of the National Economic Council pointed out in the 1990’s that among the many weaknesses of the present intelligence community is that it does not do holistic analysis — it is incapable of providing the kind of report I would have created, without the five flaws itemized above.

Sadly, the message that the military-industrial complex is going to take away from all this is that we need to spend more on propaganda — including our domestic “anti-propaganda” which will actually be propaganda against the truth from skeptical citizens as well as foreign powers. Absent a Trump Channel and an Open Source Agency, the USA is likely to remain impotent in the arena of Information Operations (IO) and the US Government will remain in a constant state of betrayal of the public trust.

There is one fact that stands out across this past election: the public likes to have truthful information. Hillary Clinton lost “against all odds” when she waved the Russian flag to the point that it led to the blocking of her stealing the same thirteen states from Donald Trump that she stole from Bernie Sanders; when she called all of us “deplorables,” and when a series of US intelligence, political, and NYPD insiders leaked emails whose content — according to this report — is indisputably truthful. Hillary Clinton lost because her electronic hacking of the voting machines was stopped, and her own words crucified her.

UPDATE 4:

TONY SHAFFER (US ARMY): IC report on Russian hacking is a lose-lose for the IC. It is both a documentation of their failure over time to deal with Russian cyber-attacks (counterintelligence is an intelligence function and cyber-security is an intelligence function), and clear proof that they have been politicized beyond the pale. Everyone in charge should be fired. Yes, Russia is a threat, yes we are vulnerable, no this is not an act of war, we should not launch a nuclear missile over someone sending a bad tweet. We are indeed at war, it is an information war, we are losing because we have chosen not to invest in cyber-defense or public diplomacy offense. As far as the leaks go, the bottom line is that the Democrats were poor at cyber-hygiene and did not collaborate with the FBI, the Republicans practiced good cyber-hygiene and did collaborate with the FBI. Trump is right: we have to fix this.

WAYNE MADSEN (USN/MEDIA): Although the Central Intelligence Agency has had a long history of undermining presidents-elect and prime ministers-elect in other countries, the United States has never witnessed the intelligence agency so blatantly attempting to politically weaken a U.S. president-elect just a few weeks prior to the inauguration. What the CIA is doing in forcing Donald Trump into shifting from his campaign promise of restoring good relations with Russia to one of outright hostility to Moscow — favored by the CIA, Director of National Intelligence (DNI), and the neo-conservatives within the Republican and Democratic party establishments — is nothing less than an overt threat to American democracy.

PENDING (NSA): It is obvious that the authors of the report started with a conclusion, namely the Russian wanted Trump over Clinton, then tried to find the evidence to support it. In the olden days i.e. my time in the IC one used a combination of analysis and research to develop a tentative conclusion. Perhaps there is some compelling evidence in the classified report to demonstrate Russian cyber mischief in the 2016 Presidential Election, but the unclassified report is indeed pitiful.

RAY MCGOVERN (CIA): Speaking only to the DNC, the documents were leaked, not hacked. Jim Clapper has a long history of fabricating intelligence, see my article with William Binney in the Baltimore Sun yesterday, Emails were leaked, not hacked. If there were hard evidence, it would come from NSA — CIA is almost totally dependent on NSA in this regard. Young Russian denies she aided election hackers: ‘I never work with douchebags’. :lkick: Her company was a surprise inclusion on the US sanctions list released last week, alongside top officers in Russia’s GRU military intelligence agency and two well-known criminal hackers. The company “provided the GRU with technical research and development”, according to the fact sheet released by the White House. No further details were given. (PBI: Hackers are not douchebags, they are heroes of the computer revolution — both the Russian and US governments (in fact most governments less the Israelis) fear hackers because they do not understand them and hackers are inherently rooted in reality where truth is an advantage — see Robert Steele’s 1990’s comments for PBI Frontline. Sanctioning this young lady — as opposed to the hundreds of others that provide IT services to the GRU, was capricious as best. The US IC is now the laughingstock of the world, more so than before.)

DEF DOG (DOD): The statement “This report is a declassified version of a highly classified assessment; its conclusions are identical to those in the highly classified assessment but this version does not include the full supporting information on key elements of the influence campaign.” was enough to convince me that it is BS. I have never seen, in a declassified or sanitized report, this verbiage — ever. It is clearly an attempt to convince people that there is more to this effort than they can provide since the basis is “a highly classified assessment”.

I have known most of the folks who are analysts in the cyber realm of the IC. They have no understanding of the underlying aspects of how computers or computer networks operate, there are very few of them that understand Maskirovka either by the Russians, the US, or any other country that practices deception (which they all do).

The FBI did not touch the servers in question but had to rely on Crowdstrike for their information. Regardless of any basis by Crowdstrike, I am sure they would not have provided anything of material value to the FBI without their client’s permission.

I am also sure their client refused in an effort to protect themselves from their involvement with hacking the machines in their favor.

I have read the released Crowdstrike report, the attribution by them (and subsequently by the IC) DEMANDS that they be taken on faith that their analysis is correct, that the threat actor left artifacts within the code that pointed directly to them (what intel operative leaves a trail?), and that they had any reason that they would gain with the election of Donald Trump?

At the end of the day, somebody intruded into the DNC network because it was easy to do. They removed files (typically what is done when they are conducting such activities) but they in no way altered any file data. The embarrassment suffered by the HRC Campaign was of their own making. All that was exposed was the hypocrisy of that political party and the masters who run it….

The report isn't going to be in depth because it is classified TLP:White. This isn't going to give identifiable info about sources or methods. Anyone expecting that level of depth out of a TLP:White document probably shouldn't be commenting on it to begin with.

The more detailed stuff that does identify those things is the one that Obama and Trump are getting.

The part that says the Crowdstrike report has to be taken on faith is also false because Crowdstrike's findings have been verified by other InfoSec companies like Fidelis and FireEye/Mandiant, as well as a number of independent individuals in the industry.

I'm not sure why so many people are going through such outrageous gyrations and gymnastics to try and deny Russian involvement in the DNC hack. Admitting that the Russians were involved doesn't really take anything away from Trump because they only revealed true information about the Democrats. Thankfully the smack upside the head with it was enough to move the swing state electorates. Why the Russians did so remains to be ultimately seen, whether it was to simply instill doubt about our electoral process or something else.

At this point, anyone who claims otherwise that the Russians were not involved or there isn't evidence is not anyone I take at all seriously since the evidence is quite clear to anyone with the comprehension to read the various reports and knowledge/experience to understand the technical details. I don't claim to be any IT wizard but, I know enough to have a reasonably good understanding of the open source information that is out there and, more importantly, to be smart enough to listen to those who are specialists and what they are saying. What I see, is a bunch of people who don't really know what they're talking about trying to act like they do because God Emperor Trump must be defended at all costs, as though anything less than him winning the election by riding in on a winged white horse slaying his opponents with a flaming sword is some sort of slight. It's as bad as watching the DU crowd try to positively spin everything Obama does regardless of what a fuckup it is. When you have the heavy hitters in the InfoSec industry saying in unison the Russians had a hand in the hack, I'm going to listen to them over Joe Schmoe's blog.

Washington is beefing up security in the run up to President-elect Trump's Jan. 20 inauguration, including the deployment of 5,000 National Guard troops downtown amid security concerns.

Mayor Muriel Bowser said despite increased security concerns, the city is prepared and ready for the event, she said Friday at a press conference with U.S. Secret Service and other security forces.

"We prepare for the biggest number possible," Bowser said. Secret Service special agent Brian Ebert said the Washington field office is "well-prepared and ready for this inauguration."

In addition to the 5,000 National Guard troops being deployed in the city, 3,000 security officers from multiple jurisdiction will also be on the ground, according to security officials.

"My expectation of this entire team is that they have prepared for any and all circumstances," Bowser said.

The city's interim police chief, Peter Newsham, said the city is ready for all contingencies and is monitoring social media to track activists and others looking to disrupt the 58th inauguration.

"Some folks that are indicating on social media that they're coming to shut down the inauguration or the events," Police Chief Newsham said. "[It] is something that we will be prepared for."

The inauguration will cost the city $30 million, with $19 million appropriated by Congress, according to the mayor. Bowser expects the remainder to be reimbursed by the federal government.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Anarchist groups have threatened to shut down Republican Donald Trump's swearing-in as U.S. president, but police in Washington said on Friday they believe the thousands of security officers assigned to the event will be able to head off any disruption.

Dozens of activist groups plan to protest the Jan. 20 inauguration of the New York real estate developer, whose supporters are counting on him to fulfill a host of controversial campaign promises including building a wall on the Mexican border and deporting millions of illegal immigrants.

Police expect some 900,000 people to flood Washington for the inauguration ceremony, which includes a parade from the U.S. Capitol to the White House along streets thronged with onlookers.

Interim Police Chief Peter Newsham told reporters on Friday that in addition to the more than two dozen activist groups that have sought permits for peaceful demonstrations, Washington police were aware of anarchist groups vowing online to interrupt the proceedings.

"The fact that you have some folks that are indicating on social media that they're coming to shut down the inauguration events is something that we will be prepared for," Newsham said. "We've experienced that type of thing before in the city and we'll be able to handle it."

Asked about the prospect of mass arrests, Newsham said: "That's one of the things that we have to prepare for, but we don't anticipate that will be the case."

Protests are planned before, during and after the inauguration, with the biggest event the Women's March on Washington on Jan. 21. The National Park Service said Thursday it would start issuing permits for protest sites after civil rights lawyers threatened to sue, saying the agency was quashing dissent.
About 3,000 police officers from outside the District, 5,000 National Guard troops and federal agents will staff buffer crowd-control barriers and bag checks, said Brian Ebert, the head of the Secret Service's District field office.

Barriers will be in place to prevent any possible truck attack, such as the attacks in Berlin last month and in Nice, France, in July.

A pro-pot lobbying group has vowed to distribute 4,200 joints and light up near the inaugural site to show support for legalization of marijuana nationwide. Marijuana is legal in the District of Columbia but can only be consumed in private.

Asked if police would bust smokers, Mayor Muriel Bowser said, "That wouldn't be our first priority."

In it, Clayton confirms with Maass that her goal is indeed to incite a riot at the inauguration. “What you’re asking for, let’s bullet point it,” Clayton says, referring to the donor Maass claims to be representing. “He says, I’ll give you $100,000 to shut down a bridge, incite a riot and make sure we hack the media narrative on the inauguration.”

WASHINGTON ― A left-wing political group released a new video Monday of a counter-sting that has uncovered evidence of right-wing activists trying to sow chaos at Donald Trump’s inaugural ceremony, an effort to portray critics of Trump who march against him as violent fringe figures.

The counter-sting, carried out by The Undercurrent and Americans Take Action, a project of a previous target of provocateur James O’Keefe, managed to surreptitiously record elements of O’Keefe’s network offering huge sums of money to progressive activists if they would disrupt the ceremony and “put a stop to the inauguration” and the related proceedings to such a degree that donors to the clandestine effort would “turn on a TV and maybe not even see Trump.” To have riots blot out coverage of Trump, the donor offered “unlimited resources,” including to shut down bridges into D.C.

The Undercurrent, led by executive producer Lauren Windsor, is sponsored by American Family Voices, which was among a constellation of groups infiltrated by O’Keefe’s Project Veritas during the presidential campaign, an effort to link Democrats with voter fraud.

Windsor told HuffPost that for now, the group is only releasing an edited version of the video. One of the conservative operatives recorded on it by The Undercurrent was Allison Maass, who previously was caught attempting to infiltrate the Senate campaign of Russ Feingold in Wisconsin, as well as the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton. Maass was also a lead infiltrator during the voter fraud campaign.

Windsor, in investigating Project Veritas, discovered the name of a front group, Breakthrough Dev Group, that O’Keefe was using to set up stings. Somebody from BDG contacted an allied group, which reached out to activist Ryan Clayton. Windsor arranged to have the meeting secretly recorded. (It’s likely Maass was recording as well. It is plausible that O’Keefe’s plan was not to disrupt to inaugural, but instead to catch lefties offering to do so.)

“It was my pleasure to work with the highly skilled operatives who pulled off this reverse sting of political conman James O’Keefe and his Project Veritas cohorts,” Clayton told HuffPost.

When attempting to infiltrate the Feingold campaign, Maass gave her name as Allison Moss, but listed a phone number that was publicly traceable to her Yonkers home and her real name of Allison Maass. Maass did not return a voicemail left Monday by HuffPost. Maass also left an email with the Feingold campaign, which HuffPost reached out to for comment. O’Keefe, rather than Maass, responded with a phone call, but said he wasn’t able to immediately comment without more information.

Trump’s charitable foundation has contributed to O’Keefe’s Project Veritas, and Trump invited O’Keefe to a presidential debate.

Senator John McCain passed documents to the FBI director, James Comey, last month alleging secret contacts between the Trump campaign and Moscow and that Russian intelligence had personally compromising material on the president-elect himself.

The material, which has been seen by the Guardian, is a series of reports on Trump’s relationship with Moscow. They were drawn up by a former western counter-intelligence official, now working as a private consultant. BuzzFeed on Tuesday published the documents, which it said were “unverified and potentially unverifiable”.

The Guardian has not been able to confirm the veracity of the documents’ contents, and the Trump team has consistently denied any hidden contacts with the Russian government.

The media ran with the 'explosive news' and will now get to enjoy its explosion -- as they hold it near their tiny little hearts.

Why the Buzzfeed debacle damaged journalism and handed Trump a gift

For Buzzfeed to publish totally unsubstantiated allegations against Donald Trump—while saying “there is serious reason to doubt the allegations”—turns the practice of journalism on its head.

It is a perversion of what we do for a living to spew out material that may be nothing more than bogus rumors and disinformation, and to claim, as Buzzfeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith does, that this is “how we see the role of reporters in 2017.”

The president-elect and his team decided yesterday to tackle this head on, to take the fight to both Buzzfeed and CNN, to make the media the issue rather than defensively deflecting the questions. And they had a big fat target.

Buzzfeed, a pop culture site with an overlay of news, is not exactly friendly to Trump. In fact, Smith told his staff in a 2015 memo that it’s “entirely fair to call him a mendacious racist, as the politics team and others have reported clearly and aggressively: he's out there saying things that are false, and running an overtly anti-Muslim campaign.” This, said Smith, was fact, not opinion.

Trump called Buzzfeed “a failing piece of garbage” that is going to “suffer the “consequences” of its actions. Sean Spicer called it “frankly outrageous” and a “highly irresponsible” decision by a “left-wing” blog. Mike Pence blamed it on “media bias.” The decision to have the incoming vice president and press secretary denounce the website before Trump spoke—with Reince Priebus doing the same on the morning shows—underscores how they viewed this as a prime opportunity to discredit the press.

Smith told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd last night, “When you have an object that’s in play…you do have to ask the question, why should I suppress that?”

But Todd shot back: “You’ve just published fake news.”

But it’s worth noting that Trump also said this: “I want to thank a lot of the news organizations, some of whom have not treated me very well over the years--a couple in particular--and they came out so strongly against that fake news, and the fact that it was written about by primarily one group and one television station.”

The furor began Tuesday when anchor Jake Tapper said the following: “A CNN exclusive. CNN has learned that the nation's top intelligence officials provided information to President-elect Donald Trump and to President Barack Obama last week about claims of Russian efforts to compromise President-elect Trump.”

Now CNN made an editorial decision not to detail those claims because they are unverified. That’s an important distinction.

But by using the fact that Trump was briefed about a two-page synopsis as a way to report the story, CNN put it in play and raised doubts whether, in some nefarious way, Trump had actually been “compromised.” I wouldn’t have made that decision, and other news outlets that now say they had the material didn’t either.

There was a confrontational moment at the presser when Trump started criticizing CNN and its correspondent, Jim Acosta, demanded to be heard. I can understand him shouting out, but when he did it repeatedly as the president-elect refused to call on him, it sounded rude. Trump finally dismissed him by saying: “You are fake news.”

After the presser, Tapper told viewers: “I suspect we are seeing here is an attempt to discredit legitimate responsible attempts to report on this incoming administration with irresponsible journalism that hurts us all.”

But it was Buzzfeed that published the whole sex-lies-and-videotape report, which you can easily find elsewhere. All this put the rest of the media in the uncomfortable position of reporting on an unproven story while trying to dance around the details—although some websites were happy to repeat the rumors.

As one example, the 35-page dossier says that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen met with Kremlin envoys last year in Prague. Cohen says he’s never been to Prague and can confirm where he was on the date in question.

As a reporter, I’ve heard all manner of rumors, unproven conspriacies and salacious crap over the years. I would never dream of publishing them without rock-solid confirmation.

Dean Baquet, executive editor of the New York Times, told his paper: “We, like others, investigated the allegations and haven’t corroborated them, and we felt we’re not in the business of publishing things we can’t stand by.”

Buzzfeed—whose other offerings yesterday included “How Bitchy Is Your Resting Face?" and ”Would you get rid of your phone just to have an orgasm?”--says it is being “transparent” with its readers. Unfortunately, the transparency enabled all of us to see shoddy journalism in action and handed Trump a gift-wrapped present.



Trump spars with reporter following Russia claims

President-elect Donald Trump resumed his sparring with the press Wednesday at his first post-election news conference -- where he tangled with a CNN journalist over the outlet's reporting on claims the Russians have compromising intel on him.

He attacked the reports as examples of so-called "fake news," and blasted BuzzFeed in particular (the only news outlet to publish the entire dossier) as a “failing pile of garbage.” However, CNN reporter Jim Acosta took issue with Trump’s words directed at both outlets, and called on Trump to let him ask a question.

“Since you’re attacking our news organization, can you give us a chance to ask a question?” he asked.

But Trump wasn’t having it.

“Not you, your news organization is terrible,” Trump replied, and turned to another reporter for a question.

But Acosta kept going, repeatedly shouting to try and get a question in.

“Can you give us a question? You are attacking us, can you give us a question Sir? Sir? Mr. President-elect,” Acosta shouted.

“Quiet. Quiet. She’s asking a question, don’t be rude, don’t be rude,” Trump scolded Acosta, while referring to another questioner.

When Acosta once again sought to ask a question, Trump responded: “No I’m not going to give you a question – you are fake news.”

“No Mr. President-elect, that is not appropriate,” Acosta responded, before giving up.

CNN later issued a statement on Twitter defending their reporting, and drawing a distinction between their reporting and that of BuzzFeed, which published the full document.

D.C. National Guard Chief Removed Days Before Trump Inauguration: "The Timing Is Extremely Unusual"

"It doesn’t make sense to can the general in the middle of an active deployment," rages D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson (D) after Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, who heads the D.C. National Guard and is an integral part of overseeing the inauguration, has been ordered removed from command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.




As The Washington Post reports, Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz’s departure will come in the midst of the presidential ceremony, classified as a national special security event — and while thousands of his troops are deployed to help protect the nation’s capital during an inauguration he has spent months helping to plan.

“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post.

During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 unarmed troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.

“My troops will be on the street,” Schwartz, who turned 65 in October, said, “I’ll see them off but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said that he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”

Schwartz, who was appointed to head the guard by President George W. Bush in 2008, maintained the position through President Obama’s two terms. He said his orders came from the Pentagon but that he doesn’t know who made the decision.

D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson (D) blasted the decision to remove Schwartz, especially on Inauguration Day.

“It doesn’t make sense to can the general in the middle of an active deployment,” Mendelson said. He added that Schwartz’s sudden departure would be a long-term loss for the District. “He’s been really very good at working with the community and my impression was that he was good for the Guard.”

Unlike in states, where the governor appoints the National Guard commander, in the District that duty falls to the president.

Schwartz said that he has not been told why he was asked to step down. “I’m a soldier,” he said, noting that he was following orders and has no regrets. “I’m a presidential appointee, therefore the president has the power to remove me.”

Is this just another part of Obama's "smooth" transition? Or is something even more sinister at work here, since we already know that anti-Trump activists are planning "the biggest protest in US history" on the day of the inauguration?

As we noted previously, radical leftists are planning to make January 20th the most chaotic Inauguration Day in American history. Their stated goal is to “disrupt” the Inauguration festivities as much as possible, and they are planning a wide range of “actions” to achieve that stated goal. Some of the more moderate groups are using terms such as “civil resistance” and “civil disobedience”, but others are openly talking about “blockades”, jumping barricades, throwing projectiles and “citywide paralysis”. My hope is that all of their efforts will turn out to be a big flop, but it is important to understand that these groups are well funded, highly organized and extremely motivated. The election of Donald Trump has been perhaps the single most galvanizing moment for the radical left in modern American history, and they are working very hard to turn January 20th into a major political statement.

In fact, just recently one activist group took out a full page ad in the New York Times…

Thousands of activists, journalists, scientists, entertainers, and other prominent voices took out a full-page call to action in the New York Times on Wednesday making clear their rejection of President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence with the simple message: “No!”

“Stop the Trump/Pence regime before it starts! In the name of humanity we refuse to accept a fascist America!” the ad states, followed by a list of signatories that includes scholar Cornel West; author Alice Walker; Chase Iron Eyes of the Standing Rock Sioux; educator Bill Ayers; poet Saul Williams; CNN‘s Marc Lamont Hill; Carl Dix of the Communist Party USA; and numerous others.

The ad pointed people to refusefascism.org, and it asserted that Trump must be stopped whether he was legitimately elected or not…

Trump promises to inflict repression and suffering on people in this country, to deport millions, to increase violence up to the use of nuclear weapons on people across the globe, and to inflict catastrophes upon the planet itself. He has assembled a cabinet of Christian fundamentalist fanatics, war mongers, racists, science deniers. NO! His regime must not be allowed to consolidate. We REFUSE to accept a Fascist America!

If you go to refusefascism.org, you will discover that the protests that they are organizing in Washington D.C. will begin on January 14th. They say that they want to “stop the Trump-Pence regime before it starts”, and they hope to have protests going “every day and every night” without interruption through at least January 20th.

Another group that plans to kick things off on January 14th is DisruptJ20. Of course that is short for “Disrupt January 20th”. If you go to their official website, you will find a long slate of events that have already been scheduled.

According to Legba Carrefour, a spokesperson for DisruptJ20, one of the goals of the group is to block major transportation routes into and throughout our nation’s capital. And he is not shy about the fact that they literally want to “shut down the Inauguration”…

“We are planning to shut down the inauguration, that’s the short of it,” he says. “We’re pretty literal about that, we are trying to create citywide paralysis on a level that I don’t think has been seen in D.C. before. We’re trying to shut down pretty much every ingress into the city as well as every checkpoint around the actual inauguration parade route.”

If Carrefour and his fellow conspirators are able to actually accomplish that, it truly would be unprecedented.

And while DisruptJ20 is not publicly advocating violence, they are not exactly discouraging it either…

Carrefour says DisruptJ20 has no publicly announced plans to jump barricades along the inauguration parade route or throw projectiles at the new president, but that autonomous direct actions are encouraged.

“I can’t comment on specific stuff we’re doing like that, mostly because that would be illegal. But, yeah, it will get pretty crazy, I expect,” he says. “‘Have fun!’ I say.”

After the rioting that we have seen in Baltimore, Ferguson, Charlotte and many other communities around the nation in recent years, I hope that authorities are taking these threats quite seriously.

Once Donald Trump won the election, many conservatives seemed to think that the war was won. But the truth of the matter is that many on the left were completely blindsided by Trump’s surprise victory, and now that they are fully awake they are gearing up for battle like never before.

And these protests are not going to end on January 20th. In fact, abortion advocates are hoping to get close to a million women into Washington D.C. on the day following the Inauguration to protest for abortion rights. Filmmaker Michael Moore is hoping that this march will be the beginning of “100 days of resistance” against Trump’s presidency…

Filmmaker and liberal icon Michael Moore has announced his plans to attend the Women’s March on Washington to protest Donald Trump’s inauguration later this month and has called for sore loser liberals to go further — by staging protests acts of resistance through the first 100 days of Trump’s presidency.

In an appearance, this weekend on MSNBC’s The Last Word, the 62-year-old Trumpland and Fahrenheit 9/11 director made a “call to arms” to those opposed to Trump’s presidency to join the Women’s March on Washington scheduled for January 21, the day after the presidential inauguration.

“It’s important that everybody go there,” Moore told MSNBC’s Ari Melber.

Of course it is easy to imagine how all of this could spiral wildly out of control. If Trump cracks down on these protests really hard in an attempt to restore law and order, that could end up sparking a dramatic backlash against his “police state tactics”. And if the protests become even bigger and more violent, Trump could respond by cracking down even more harshly.

Let us hope for some really cold weather in D.C. at the end of January so that as many troublemakers as possible get discouraged and stay home. Violent protests, blockades and riots aren’t going to solve anything, and they could easily open fresh wounds in a nation that is becoming more divided with each passing day.

UNDER BUDGET: Trump Team to Return 20% of Unused Transition Costs to Treasury

With the official swearing in of Donald Trump less than 24 hours away, the president-elect is wasting no time following up on his campaign promise to reduce government spending and start completing projects “under budget”.

Trump’s press secretary Sean Spicer held a briefing with reporters today to deliver an update on the transition process and readiness of the president-elect to take office. He started by introducing Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who told reporters that the process has been completed “on schedule and under budget”.

“We will actually return some 20 percent of taxpayer funding back to the U.S. Treasury, and that is exactly in keeping with the president-elect’s expectations going forward,” Pence said. He continued by stating that Trump knew how to “sharpen his pencil” (despite how mainstream reporters have been portraying him) and they are pleased to announce they will be returning a portion of the taxpayer money allocated for their transition costs back to the U.S. Treasury.

With the outgoing Obama administration accumulating more national debt than all previous presidents combined, when was the last time you heard about the government actually giving back taxpayer money to the treasury department? Something tells me if this were Hillary Clinton’s transition team, they would have found a way to spend those extra dollars (or pocket the funds themselves).

Although no Democratic senators have indicated they will be missing the inauguration, CNN has suggested that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has left the door open for those deciding to do so. Schumer said, “I think each person has to make the choice on their own, but I don’t begrudge those who have said they’re boycotting. Each person can make his or her own decision.”

Dozens of Democratic lawmakers announced they would not attend the inauguration after legendary civil rights activist Rep. John Lewis stated that he does not believe Trump is a “legitimate president,” that he is “wrong” for the nation, and that this is the first inauguration at which he will not be present.

However, soon after he made his comment, a report surfaced that Lewis had skipped George W. Bush’s inauguration because he did not believe Bush was the true elected president, thus it would be hypocritical for him to attend.

New Hampshire Democrat Rep. Carol Shea-Porter noted that instead of attending the inauguration she’ll go to religious services to “pray for all of our leaders and people.” Shea-Porter represents a congressional district that Trump won. In fact, Trump won more votes than Shea-Porter did. Shea-Porter received 162,080 votes in her district, CD-1. Trump received 179,259 in the same district.

Jeanie Forrester, who is running for chair of the New Hampshire Republican Party, sent out a tweet pointing this out:

The pro-Trump “DeploraBall” event inside drew the ire of the hundreds of anarchists and their associates. Many of the mask-clad protesters physically resisted police efforts to clear the sidewalk as others shot their middle fingers to the police officers.

This is the most comprehensive list of the leftist groups supporting the DisruptJ20 event designed to thwart President-elect Donald Trump and his supporters.

These are the anarchist cells, affinity groups, student consortiums, left-wing bookstores, propaganda distribution outlets, anti-American websites, hacker collectives, and other leftist groups on the shadowy edge of the worldwide radical movement that sees Trump’s political victory as the main barrier to their goal of fundamentally transforming the world.

This is the far left of the far left – the anarchist, communist, and socialist organizations, some of which urge lawbreaking “direct action” including violence, arson, and intimidation.

The establishment media doesn’t cover these groups in any significant way, and it’s hard to estimate how many people are part of this vast network. They often operate above ground, seemingly unconcerned about exposure from the mainstream media, although a significant amount of their work is secretive.

The most shocking thing, however, is the ideology of these fringe leftists is echoed by the establishment media, the mainstream Democratic Party, and even many #NeverTrump Republicans.

The message repeated endlessly for months is that Donald Trump is Hitler and his supporters are fascists. We’ve heard this exact narrative from media outlets from the New York Times to the Huffington Post to CNN to The National Review.

As the days count down to Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday, more and more protest rallies and marches are popping up across the country.

Alec Baldwin, Mark Ruffalo and Michael Moore, who support #DisruptJ20, are hosting a rally on inauguration-eve in front of Trump International Hotel at 6 p.m.

“We are sending a message to Washington that we will fight, at every step, discrimination and harmful policies, today, tomorrow and every day,” Ruffalo said in a statement to the Associated Press. He added that participants “are coming together to stand up for one another, as we will do every day, to protect the values we hold dear.”

After a photo was released showing the attendance difference between Obama and Trump’s inaugurations, details of Trump’s inauguration attendance has been highly questioned. Fox News’ Brit Hume sent out a tweet last night to give his opinion.

The picture in question was originally released on the New York Times’ Twitter account. Many felt that it was another way for the media to continue their apparent mission to delegitimize President Trump.



After a photo was released showing the attendance difference between Obama and Trump’s inaugurations, details of Trump’s inauguration attendance has been highly questioned. Fox News’ Brit Hume sent out a tweet last night to give his opinion.

The picture in question was originally released on the New York Times’ Twitter account. Many felt that it was another way for the media to continue their apparent mission to delegitimize President Trump.
The story dominated news coverage the following day and even led White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer to dedicate a large majority of his first press conference to address the media’s take on the crowd size.

Photographs of the inaugural proceedings were intentionally framed in a way in one particular tweet, to minimize the enormous support that had gathered on the National Mall. This is the first time in our nation’s history that floor coverings have been used to protect the grass on the mall. That had the effect of highlighting any areas where people were not standing, while in years past, the grass eliminated this visual.

While those on the left for happy about the photo, others pointed out key factors that change the context of the picture. Among those factors included added fencing around the perimeter and the floor coverings, as previously mentioned by Press Secretary Spicer.

The time that the photo was taken has also been questioned. Particularly by Fox News’ Brit Hume, who recalled what he saw in a tweet.

Those that attended the inauguration also tweeted out photos that tell a much different story.

While few have claimed that President Trump’s inauguration crowd was larger than Obama’s, the originally tweeted photo seemed to be posted solely for decisive purposes.

Conway gets Secret Service protection due to death threats

President Trump’s adviser Kellyanne Conway is getting Secret Service protection after receiving suspicious “white substances” at her home, she revealed in a TV interview.

The White House counselor — Trump’s most visible adviser — is being protected by the same agency tasked with his security after receiving the threats, Conway told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
“Because of what the press is doing now to me, I have Secret Service protection,” she said. “We have packages delivered to my house with white substances. That is a shame.”

While Conway’s Secret Service detail is unusual, it is not without precedent.

Barack Obama’s closest adviser, Valerie Jarrett, also was protected by the agency.

Asked by the Washington Post about the relationship among Trump’s top advisers — herself, Steve Bannon, Jared Kushner and Reince Priebus — Conway said it was good.

“We’re a cohesive unit,” Conway said.

“The senior team exhibits many of the characteristics President Trump has always valued: cohesion, collaboration, high energy and high impact,” she added.

According to the report, Conway will be focused on health care and issues related to veterans — and is expecting to spend less time on TV.

CNN Quietly Releases Updated Pic Showing Trump’s Inaugural Crowd Size Greater than Obama’s 2009 Inaugural Crowd

As we pointed out throughout the months leading up to the election, crowd size matters. President Trump was crushing Hillary Clinton in number of rallies and number of participants at his rallies when compared to Clinton.



These numbers, in part, led to us projecting a Trump win and probable landslide and we were correct. Trump did win in an electoral landslide. Nevertheless, the numbers at the rallies were significantly different between the two candidates and the one with the larger number of participants won the election. (Note Deroy Murdock reported on our rally observations last week).

The media remained silent on the crowd size numbers when it was clear that Trump was crushing Hillary in this area. But late last week the media finally reported that crowd size does matter. CNN (Fake News) reported that President Trump’s crowd size was much smaller than President Obama’s crowd size in 2009, and CNN provided two pictures to show the difference.

However, the pictures in the article show the crowd size for Obama when he was speaking during his 2009 inauguration with the crowd from Trump’s inauguration approximately 3 hours before Trump spoke.



CNN’s report was another of their ‘Fake News’ lies. The photos used in their post were not comparing apples to apples and President Trump’s Press Secretary pointed this out on Saturday in a special press conference. Trump’s crowd was huge and every bit as big as Obama’s crowd in 2009. Also, in CNN’s article they say that Obama had 1.8 million people in 2009. This is now refuted and is more likely closer to 800,000.

Later CNN’s report was proven false by their own reporting. CNN released a gigapixel of President Trump’s Inauguration and the areas they show as empty in their article from their January 21st report were filled to the brim in their more recent picture which was taken at the time of Trump’s speech during the Inauguration ceremony.

You will also see Democrats looking on in angst and Judge Sotomayer apparently playing with her iPhone.

It is now clear that Trump had at least as many participants at his inauguration as Obama did in 2009, and probably more. The Left and MSM are terrible with numbers and only report them when they can distort and use them to support the Left’s agenda. Trump crushed Hillary in rally attendance and now as CNN’s pictures show, Trump crushed Obama in Inaugural attendance as well.
