Battlefield 4 Campaign Details Unveil A War With China

EA Games and DICE has revealed the campaign details of their upcoming military-themed FPS, Battlefield 4. Posting on the game’s official blog with details about who you’ll be playing as and who your enemies are, the entry goes into no small amount of depth about the campaign storyline. It’s something you’ll definitely want to read if you intend on playing through the game’s single-player campaign before hopping online.

According to the entry, you’ll be taking on the role of Sgt. Daniel Recker, who’s a part of an elite squad of soldiers called Tombstone Squad. It’s your squad that is an inadvertant spark that could ignite a global war. It’s up to you to navigate the turmoil and figure out a way to stop that from happening.

    Here’s how that story goes:
“While on a mission to collect intelligence from a defecting Russian General in Baku, Azerbaijan, your squad is discovered and you must fight your way through waves of Russian troops in order to escape. Upon getting back to the USS Valkyrie, a Wasp class carrier, the intelligence you’ve retrieved confirms previous suspicions. The Chinese Admiral Chang is planning a coup in China, and if this happens, the Russians would back him up.

“With this intel secure, the USS Valkyrie sets a course for Shanghai. You and Tombstone squad are sent on a covert mission into the city to extract a group of VIP’s. China is in uproar after the U.S. has been implicated in the assassination of Jin Jié, the future leader and voice for peace in China. Admiral Chang has canceled elections and martial law has been declared. As U.S. and Russian naval forces position themselves off the coast of China, and the situation quickly escalates into a stare down akin to a tinderbox waiting for a spark.”

It’s all very reminiscent of a Tom Clancy novel, and one which DICE hopes will keep players hooked in the single-player campaign.

    Interesting.

I'm not a big fan of online multiplayer and a lot of game designers tend to treat single player campaign as a red headed stepchild. Hopefully this is a change of pace.

Probably one of my favorite campaign modes in any military shooter have been the Rainbow Six games on Xbox. You can actually play it like a tactical shooter that requires some thought and planning, not a run and gun. It's even better when you play it co-op with someone there with you.

Looks like both the Chinese J-20 and the Russian PAK FA\T-50 stealth fighters could be be in this game as well.
