On the second part, I think that's the exact issue. The snow does sublimate here quickly, USUALLY, so they are unprepared for wet, heavy falls. And generally it warms fast after a snow storm like that so we get melts occurring within a few hours.

I think that they just don't have a good grasp of how things work. Worse, half the people working for the city are from "somewhere else" (warm climates like CA, and TX)

I concur. For some reason, public works operations in Colorado are fairly clueless when it comes to the efficient and equitable removal of snow following a major event. They need to take some lessons from those in the NE.

I've never been anywhere that snow is efficiently removed.

Efficiently DEALT with perhaps (Michigan comes to mind) and total panic (Oklahoma, Texas, Kentucky and anywhere south where snow never falls normally).

Syracuse, NY. They receive about 200 inches a year and have historically been very good at snow removal. They only problem they face is the overutilization of salt for ice mitigation. It works like a champ, but rusts cars into dust and damages infrastructure.

Michigan uses salt as well (in fact a HELL of a lot of salt in the US comes from the mines up there).

And rust is a serious issue.

Surprise winter storm out of nowhere for tomorrow.

It was supposed to be heavy rain today and some freezing rain tomorrow. Now we're looking at getting slammed with snow. Not that I'm complaining or anything! Some of the best snow storms are the surprise ones.

    I'm in the triangle between where they're saying 7.5", 8", and 9".

We have rain today, and snow tomorrow night into Thursday and AGAIN, I'm the storm is going to just miss me and give me another annoying 3. Gawd this pisses me off.

Either leave me alone or give me a fricking storm! 3 inches is just enough that i have to plow, use the power snow shovel, shovel and snow blower.

Give me inches and feed me well! Oh, wait that's a double entendre from an AC/DC song.

The weather here in Colorado has beat all expectations, and of course ruined anything like a status quo we might have had.

We had ice and snow that started last night. It snowed for about 4 hours, a very fine, light, frozen fog snow that left two-three inches in various places. It was mostly easy to knock off the vehicle this morning, but it caused the roads to be packed snow, with ice over top, with glare ice in many spots on the roadways. Max speed was 45 today with no one around, on a very deserted highway (delays to bases, schools and some work places).

I came in at the regular time and ended up "being late" (later than normal) because the roads were screwed up.

the normal sublimation of snow has not happened.

This MUST be that diabolical Global Warming that has been talked about for so long. I know it can't be "Climate Change" because if that were true, we'd be seeing warmer, spring-like weather (if there were climate change). It's been so cold for so long that I'm not convinced the planetary shift of the poles has occurred, and the north pole is 3 miles north of Denver Colorado now. The Magnetic poles haven't moved.

Today, more snow - warming later, and probably tomorrow into the 50s.

Had about 3 inches of something last night.

It took me 2.5 hours to get home.

There was roughly 2 inches of heavy wet snow on the ground when I got there and sleet was coming down.

This morning there was a crusty sleet pile on everything. I plowed at 5am before I left for work just because another 2-6 is coming later today.

We got a small break from the rain this morning (long enough for me to not have to work in it thankfully!) and a very light mix is currently falling. Snow is supposed to get going after 3pm.

The rain has melted a lot of the snow out in the open we had but there's still at least an inch or two in a lot of spots (inside tree lines, etc.) and of course the big plow piles are still around.

The whole global warming thing has been total bullshit and yet they were still trying to say all the snow a couple years back was caused by global warming.

    LOL!

We've changed over to all snow now. Medium sized, wet flakes. Getting heavier as I head south from north of Cincy to Northern KY.

    Drivers are already driving stupidly.
