Well, I didn't want to post about it because I didn't want to jinx it but, it looks like we're going to get our first legit Winter Storm in at least 4 years (I don't consider the one that broke the 3 year drought last winter that was barely 3" that they declared a WSW on a real Winter Storm).

    Right now, Accuweather is saying there's a 48% chance of 3-6" and a 34% of 6-10"!

Looks like it's going to be a long duration event lasting most of the weekend.

So much for not jinxing... This storm has turned into a major bust from the predictions made just hours before it hit.

So far I've gotten, maybe, 2" factoring in compaction because it's wet and heavy snow. Most all of which fell early morning. There's spots under pine trees with nearly zero snow...

Since then temps have been just above freezing in the mid 30s and what has fallen has just been cold rain. Looks like the warm air from the south won out and pushed further north. I'd expect this type of snow in March instead of mid January.

At least someone is enjoying it...

I'm seeing that just 30 minutes north, they ended up with around 6".

This is me at the red dot... So close, yet so far.

Standing by to be disappointed yet again by this upcoming weekend's storm.

Hours away from the storm hitting and I still don't know if I'm getting cold rain, ice/snow, or big snow dump. A model to support each of those.

That said, ILN just issued a WSW a couple hours ago. Heard my weather radio go off. Officially calling for 3"-5" and ice glaze.

Two things that have been constant are the threat for wind and the cold that's going to crash in after.

Going to be interesting the next day or so...

Ended up going from rain all day (picked up about an inch), to sleet/freezing rain for around an hour, and then switching over to all snow.

Hard to get an accurate measure of just how much because of the driving wind. Wind that's still going somewhat. I recorded a 28 MPH gust at the height and winds were steady upper teens to low 20s throughout. Right now winds are pretty steady in the upper single digits to around 10. Recent gusts at 18 and more recently 15.

I guesstimate I got around 3"-4" actual snowfall. About like that storm last year that broke our WSW drought but with more wind this time around. Upstate definitely did a lot better with double digits being pretty prevalent.

First measurable snowfall of the season coming down now!

Forecast says 1-3" but they also said precip would start out as rain and transition to snow. We never saw the rain and temps dropped from 62 down to 37 earlier today in about 2 hours, lots of wind.

Got maybe 1.5" on the ground right now. Light fluffy stuff. Starting to try to stick to the streets.

Supposed to hit a low of 12 Tues night into Wed!

Since my last post this Winter has been absolutely miserable.

Not because it's been too cold but rather too warm. And wet.

The upcoming system which, while on the high end, isn't too far off from what the rest of the season has been like - warm and wet with plenty of mud.

The system on the horizon for the weekend - pushing 70 degrees in the middle of January and an ass load of rain.

Let's just get Winter over with and start Spring. I've got work to do on my truck.

Yeah, warm and wet. UGH. We got 14 inches in December and it's been bleech ever since.

Now I'm curious what our monthly total was...

Thankfully most of that rain modeled has skirted north of me so it's just been way warm and windy.

Today I've seen a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, a recorded high of 71, and a max wind gust of 39 with just over an inch of rain so far. Springtime weather in the middle of January.

They must have gotten a lot more over by the airport. I know I didn't have anywhere near a half inch. It was melting on the ground almost as fast as it was coming down.

Hey, we might get 2 inches this weekend. Yaaay! ugh. It's fricking February, enough with the rain.

    It's raining now.

    Again.

Can't even get any freezing rain to shut everything down.

I feel like I'm living on New Caprica.

If only! That might actually make this wet cold and mud more bearable.
