I was just seeing a live radar map a few minutes ago on TV and there is a line of crap extending from somewhere in Texas it appeared all the way to Ohio. You were kind of at the "tip of the spear" and it was moving north and east. Storm after storm. They were saying 30 and below for temps and incoming ice and freezing rain.
Yuk is all I can say.
Air Force Academy had temps at -17 this morning.

A large tract of America can expect "a major icing event," the National Weather Service says, predicting snow and ice in an area that includes at least eight states from Texas to the Ohio Valley. The winter storm has already hit Western towns; some will endure lows far below zero this weekend, forecasters say.
Millions of people could be affected by the snow, freezing rain and ice, which is expected to make travel hazardous and cause power outages. Crews in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and elsewhere are already busy trying to clear roads of dangerous ice.
"This will be the worst ice storm for the United States since January 2009 and will affect many of the same areas as that storm," says .

In Denver, temperatures aren't expected to rise above the teens all weekend; there's a chance of snow on Saturday and Sunday, according to .
It'll be even colder north and west of Denver, where lows could reach 50 degrees below zero in parts of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and the Dakotas.
And more precipitation is also expected in the West. The NWS forecast calls for rain in parts of central and Southern California on Saturday.
"Additionally, snow will move into parts of the Great Basin/Southwest and the Northern/Central Rockies on Saturday," the weather agency says. "Snow will also develop over parts of the Central Plains by Saturday evening."
The effects of the massive band of cold air that's moving into the East are still being felt in the West, where farmers in California have put in long hours this week trying to save part of the state's $2 billion citrus crop, in addition to lettuces and avocados. They're harvesting during the day and nursing their plants at night, using water and fans to keep them from falling prey to dangerously low temperatures.
"We need the cold air to color up the fruit and bring up the flavor," Bob Blakely, director of industry relations for California Citrus Mutual, an association of growers, . "It's our greatest blessing, but if it gets too cold, it can be a curse."
Parts of Southern California are expected to get a break from the cold this weekend.

OH! I see what they were showing... a composite radar image that showed the front moving through Cinci and stretching down to Texas. So that's just the beginning.

DALLAS (AP) — As snow and freezing rain blanketed normally sun-swept North Texas, residents accustomed to warmer temperatures appeared to heed warnings on what one hardware store manager called "Ice Friday," staying off nearly impassable roadways and out of a skin-stinging cold.
Earlier this week, many in Texas were basking in spring-like temperatures hitting the 80s. But by Thursday, Texas was facing the same wintry blast that's hitting much of the U.S., bringing frigid temperatures, ice and snow.
Freezing rain started to pelt highways and power lines Thursday evening, leaving a quarter-million customers without electricity Friday morning. Schools canceled classes a day before, many businesses gave workers the day off, and frigid roads and sidewalks were mostly empty.
In the Dallas area, agencies and residents are still haunted by the fiasco of a frozen Super Bowl week two years ago, when an inadequate response to a winter storm crippled the region and left visitors stranded on impassable highways.
This time, all of North Texas mobilized before an expected half-inch of freezing rain began to come down. Temperatures are forecast to stay below freezing after the rain passes, meaning residents will have to contend with icy roads through the weekend.
One Home Depot in Dallas was running out of firewood and ice melt a day early.
"It's almost like a Black Friday," said store manager James McGilberry, "but I guess we'll call it an Ice Friday."
Road crews were continuously dumping sand on largely empty highways, and utility company Oncor reported 250,000 people were without power in the Dallas area, where temperatures had fallen into the 20s and some places saw light snow.
Police in Arlington, about 20 miles west of Dallas, reported that icy roads were a factor in the death of one driver whose car hit a truck pulled to the side of the road. Three other traffic deaths in Oklahoma and Indiana were blamed on the weather. More than 1,000 flights in the Dallas area were canceled by airlines early Friday. Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines and its regional carrier, American Eagle, had canceled 962 flights by 8:30 a.m., according to flight tracking site Flightaware.com.
The National Weather Service issued winter storm and ice warnings through much of Friday for parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee. Some parts of the Midwest expected to see several inches of snow. The storm stretched from South Texas, where anxious residents bagged outdoor plants to protect them from the cold, up into northern New England and the Canadian Maritimes.

Was seeing images of OKC a few minutes ago. Typical weather there. I remember nothing like snow, only ice, wind and red clay in the air. LOL
I'd walk out in the morning and slip and fall because the ice was clear and you didn't know it until you stepped in it.

A major ice storm that has disrupted hundreds of flights and locked North Texas in a deep freeze was spreading Friday as far east as Kentucky, bringing the threat of heavy snows and major power outages to a wide swath of the country.
Arkansas was bracing for a major blast of cold air, forcing the shutdown of schools, businesses and government agencies.
Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe declared a statewide emergency, making it easier for crews to repair damage to trees and power lines.
Most of southern Missouri was under winter weather warnings. Forecasters expected up to 8 inches of snow by Friday evening.
Winter storm warnings and watches and an ice storm warning were in effect for Western Tennessee, which could see ice on the ground for a day or more. A state of emergency has been declared in the western and middle parts of The Volunteer State.
This storm will push into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Sunday, slamming an area from Washington, D.C., to New York City with a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.
Meanwhile, another winter blast was moving in behind this system, bringing subzero temperatures, snow and difficult travel conditions to northern Arizona.
The big danger from the wintry mess throughout the affected area was the strong potential for downed power lines and very slick driving conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
The Dallas-Fort Worth area was especially hard hit, with dozens of traffic accidents reported Thursday evening and into early Friday.
In Fort Worth, a section of the Mixmaster – a major interchange of I-35 and I-30 – was shut down completely early Friday after several vehicles got stuck, the Star-Telegram reports.
"We've seen some problems with large rigs, particularly double-trailers, being stuck up there," said Val Lopez, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, the newspaper reports. "They seem to have more of a problem getting traction than other vehicles."
Nearly 175,000 residential and business customers in the area were without power, according to the utility Oncor.
Southwest Airlines, based on Dallas, canceled nearly 80 flights while Fort Worth-based American Airlines and American Eagle canceled nearly 500 flights through Friday morning.

Electric utility Oncor (ON'-kor) had about 264,000 outages mainly in the Dallas area.
Fort Worth-based American Airlines and American Eagle canceled nearly 1,000 flights systemwide Friday due to bad weather in Texas. Southwest Airlines canceled almost 90 flights.
Arlington police say a driver died Friday after his car hit a stopped truck during inclement weather. The Texas Department of Public Safety says a Lubbock man died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle wreck on icy roads near Smyer (SMY'-er). The victim was Francisco Javier Alvizo.

We've had a decent coating of sleet but it is now finally starting to transition to snow.
I have a feeling roads are going to get bad quick. With all the rain/freezing rain before, road crews couldn't really treat them.
Good thing I'm not out driving in it tonight!

Round 1 ended a couple hours ago. Ended up with about 4 inches by my estimates. Not nearly as much as I was hoping for but way better than all of last winter!
Roads got predictably bad. Still haven't seen a plow come down my street yet which is bad for trying to leave home or get home since every route involves traversing some steep hill of some sort.
For Round 2 on Sunday, right now Accuweather is calling for 4"-8" along with some icing.

Round 1 is through here...was rain with snow for about 5 minutes. It's just a coating of ice here.

Just checked Accuweather for the latest and it looks like they've removed snow totals from their forecast for Sunday. NWS is saying 1-2" snow with 1/10" ice.

I was out clearing the deck yesterday. We had a total of non-drifted snow at 6". That was over the last few days. It was a very, very fine powder snow and I simply used the deck brush (basically a broom of sorts) to push all the snow off the deck. No ice or anything.
It's been so cold here (minus numbers at night) that none of that stuff started to melt so it didn't form puddles that refroze anywhere.
It is supposed to start warming again today - and I heard something about it being in the teens (22 perhaps highest) and by the end of the week 40s.

Round 2 for us ended up being cold enough for no sleet or freezing rain as was expected. Everything ended up falling as snow.
Now we're going to be getting the cold air you guys were having though they've upped the temperatures from what they were predicting. Coldest we're supposed to get is, right now, 4 on Wednesday night.
