Good luck...you're not that far from good weather...but you need to get down to NC at least. The weather there fairly mild year round.

The more seasonal temps are finally starting to push in this week.

Going to be highs in the upper 50s-low 60s this week then mid to upper 50s the following. About on par with our historical averages.

Looks like the cold weather is going to come crashing in with a vengeance shortly!

We're going to go from a high of 68 and 70 on Thursday and Friday, to a high of just 45 on Saturday and 37 on Sunday.

Looks like the first major Winter storm is developing for the Plains.

Blizzard Watches even posted in Minnesota and the Dakotas!

Looks like it's going to be clear for me. I'm really not ready for snow yet. My September went missing because of family issues, so it feels like it's a month early.

No joke. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that we're just a week away from Thanksgiving and ~5 weeks from Christmas.

This year went by way too quick.

The last 24 hours has brought some interesting weather!

Last night I had to go watch the niece and nephew for my brother while he and his wife went to a wedding. We had snow/freezing rain forecast for the evening so I decided it would probably be a good idea to take the truck.

Came out to leave and this is what the truck looked like...

I knew it was going to be an interesting ride home and it was!

The truck did fine but when people say these things can be "interesting" on ice they're right. You could feel the rear constantly dancing back and forth but, so long as you don't get crazy, the front pulling helps keep it in check.

And of course my direct route home was blocked by an accident. So my 15 minute drive home, which probably would have been 25 because of the roads, turned into a 40 minute drive having to take an alternate route. The MRAP heater upgrade did a great job keeping the windshield clear. Not a bit of ice on it!

Got home and found a nice glaze on the front though.

And this evening it is 60 degrees and raining cats and dogs! Then tomorrow, to add insult to injury, we're going to be back down to the upper 20s for a high.

So pissed none of what's coming down is coming down as snow. There is literally thunder rolling outside right now. We would be getting thundersnow!

    From earlier today...

Day after Christmas and 71 degrees.

    We're still at 66 at almost 9pm.

(ETA: Just noticed, not sure why it is set to Mountain time. )

Looks like we're about to get our first measurable snowfall of the season tomorrow.

    Only had 2 dustings previously.

Estimates are anywhere from 1-3" to 2-4". Not enough to really put the truck to the test. Better than anything we've gotten so far though!

I think Missouri is getting most of your stuff MMCO.

I'd say since morning we've gotten about 1-1.5" of fluffy powder. Light enough I saw someone with a blower cleaning off their drive earlier. Supposed to keep up for a little bit longer.

Snowing in VA (north of me) and had rain here all night or most of it. Raining now on and off, but mostly a mist. Windy as hell, and the boat is heeling over at the dock. I added some lines, fenders and made sure all my sheet lines etc are tied down well.

Will be freezing tonight and most of tomorrow. Monday should warm a bit up to the 40s or high 30s. By Tuesday and Wednesday we should be back to the high 50s or low 60s.

The Carolinas are about to get hammered with snow. LOL!

And in a week, I could be getting hammered myself. And not in a good way with snow like I'd like either...

I know since it's so far out, exact placement and amounts are far from set in stone but it is a big enough concern to give one pause when you're talking about that much ice.

I'm ready to go though. Got the chains for the truck, a barrel of kerosene for the kero heaters, and a couple hundred gallons of gas for the generators.

Which reminds me, as soon as this cold snap breaks on Monday I need to get out the generators and run them for a bit.

Still keeping an eye out on this potential ice storm setting up.

At this point, all of the models out there seem to agree that there is going to be a major ice storm. The question which cannot be answered right now is exactly where and how much.

In general, anyone in the Plains, Midwest, Ohio River Valley, and Great Lakes regions should be keeping an eye out.

Details won't really start to become clear until likely after Tuesday. Wherever this sets up, look for store panic to set in Wednesday/Thursday.

Brian, you may want to keep an eye on this especially as Missouri looks to be especially under the gun.

    And, for reference:

The amount of ice accumulation being talked about for wherever this eventually impacts is largely in the 4 and 5 category.

Local met only hinting at weekend "uncertainty" with the potential for freezing rain and that they are "going to keep an eye on it in the coming days".

Probably the best way to handle this at this point.

Hi Ryan, sorry I didn't chime in but I was busy keeping warm. lol

We didn't get "ice" here, but 40 nm north of here did. They got a lot of it. Some of our friends on FB were freezing their asses off.

The folks that left with us on Wednesday kept going when we turned around and came back in because of bad waves. They are only 70 miles south of us and they got cold too. So, didn't matter where you were, or what you were doing.

We got rain all night Friday night and snow north. VA got a lot I heard.

It is above freezing now, but still cold in the ship. It's in the 50s, and 38 outside right now. Should warm some tomorrow and by Thursday ought to be pretty warm again (60s-70s).

We will, with luck, be getting out of here down the ICW in a few days. Plugging along at 20-40 miles per day from this point on I hope. The weather should be more cooperative (again, I hope).
