    umm this is BULLSHIT!

    It's a fucking LIE

Capitol shooting: Capitol Police officers who risked lives currently unpaid

As essential federal employees, they are exempt from furloughs tied to the government shutdown, but funding for their pay is currently backlogged.

Ryan informed me a bit ago from watching the conference I couldnt see that the woman was a "small Somali woman" it "was not terrorism" and "was not an accident".

    We have a couple theories.

    1) She's Obama's mistress and the baby was his, and she was trying to get in to see the Baby's Daddy...

    2) Clash of Cultures. She got frightened and did what she would have done at home. Fled from the mean men with the guns to protect her baby.

Technically, I'm hoping both are right.

WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – CBS News correspondent John Miller reports there will likely be an internal investigation into the Capitol Hill car chase that ended with the driver dead.
Washington Police Chief Cathy Lanier confirms shots were fired in at least two locations during the chase.
Authorities will want to know what was going through the minds of the officers who opened fire.
Miller says once the car crashed into the barriers outside the White House, training instincts would kick in for officers and Secret Service agents.
Because the White House and Capitol building are sensitive locations, their training and reactions would be heightened.
They would have to assume it was a terror attack and consider the possibility that it might be a car bomb.
Afterwards, police described what happened as an isolated event and said they saw no indications of terrorism.

Mother of Miriam Carey: She Was Depressed, Hospitalized

    October 4, 2013 6:29 AM

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — The woman killed by police after leading authorities on a chase that ended with gunfire on Capitol Hill had been suffering from mental illness according to her mother.

Idella Carey said her daughter, 34-year-old Miriam Carey, was battling post-partum depression during an interview with ABC News.

Miriam Carey, who worked as a dental hygienist in Stamford, Conn., gave birth to her daughter, Erica, in August 2012.

“A few months later, she got sick,” her mother said. “She was depressed. … She was hospitalized.”

Law enforcement sources tell NBC News Miriam Carey believed she was being stalked by President Barack Obama.

Idella Carey says her daughter had “no history of violence” and she did not know why she was in Washington on Thursday. She said she thought Carey was taking Erica to a doctor’s appointment in Connecticut.

A motive for Thursday’s deadly chase was unclear. Authorities executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home in Stamford Thursday night.

The Carey family is expected to release a formal statement Friday.

Miriam Carey’s boss, Dr. Steven Oken, described Carey as a person who was “always happy.”

“I would never in a million years believe that she would do something like this,” he said. “It’s the furthest thing from anything I would think she would do, especially with her child in the car. I am floored that it would be her.”

Carey was fired from a similar job in April 2012 following a dispute with her bosses over the use of a handicapped parking space, CBS News correspondent John Miller reports.

Police said there appeared to be no direct link to terrorism and there was no indication the woman was even armed. Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine, whose officers have been working without pay as a result of the shutdown, called it an “isolated, singular matter.”

Still, tourists, congressional staff and even some senators watched anxiously as a caravan of law enforcement vehicles chased a black Infiniti with Connecticut license plates down Constitution Avenue outside the Capitol and as officers with high-powered firearms canvased the area. The House and Senate both abruptly suspended business, a lawmaker’s speech cut off in mid-sentence, as the Capitol Police broadcast a message over its emergency radio system telling people to stay in place and move away from the windows.

The woman’s car at one point had been surrounded by police cars and she managed to escape, careening around a traffic circle and past the north side of the Capitol. Video shot by a TV cameraman showed police pointing firearms at her car before she rammed a Secret Service vehicle and continued driving. Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier said police shot and killed her a block northeast of the historic building.

In Stamford, the FBI served a search warrant in connection with the investigation and police cordoned off a condominium building and the surrounding neighborhood in the shoreline city.

Condo resident Eric Bredow, a banker, said police told him the suspect in the car chase was one of his neighbors.

“I see the door to my building open and the FBI bomb squad in front of it,” said Bredow, who said helicopters were flying overhead when he first went home.

The chain-of-events began when the woman sped onto a driveway leading to the White House, over a set of barricades. When the driver couldn’t get through a second barrier, she spun the car in the opposite direction, flipping a Secret Service officer over the hood of the car as she sped away, said B.J. Campbell, a tourist from Portland, Ore.

“This wasn’t no accident. She was not a lost tourist,” Campbell said later near the scene that had been blocked off with police tape.

    Then the chase began.

“The car was trying to get away. But it was going over the median and over the curb,” said Matthew Coursen, who was watching from a cab window when the Infiniti sped by him. “The car got boxed in and that’s when I saw an officer of some kind draw his weapon and fire shots into the car.”

One Secret Service member and a 23-year veteran of the Capitol Police were injured. Officials said they are in good condition and expected to recover.

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, who said he was briefed by the Homeland Security Department, said he did not think the woman was armed. “There was no return fire,” he said.

A few senators between the Capitol and their office buildings said they heard the shots.

“We heard three, four, five pops,” said Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa. Police ordered Casey and nearby tourists to crouch behind a car for protection, then hustled everyone into the Capitol.

    Others witnessed the incident, too.

“There were multiple shots fired and the air was filled with gunpowder,” said Berin Szoka, whose office at a technology think tank overlooks the shooting scene.

The shooting comes two weeks after a mentally disturbed employee terrorized the Navy Yard with a shotgun, leaving 13 people dead including the gunman.

Before the disruption, lawmakers had been trying to find common ground to end a government shutdown. The House had just finished approving legislation aimed at partly lifting the government shutdown by paying National Guard and Reserve members.

Capitol Police on the plaza around the Capitol said they were working without pay as the result of the shutdown. A spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said a bill to pay them was under consideration.

Why Did Capitol Hill Police Open Fire?

Also sounds like this woman "snapped". USSS and JTFT is saying that this was "an unconventional weapon attack" - meaning the vehicle was "turned into a large weapon" and this is why they shot her.

So, I suppose now MSNBS will demand common sense background checks for perspective car buyers?

3 Oct Of course, MSNBS and the rest will not make this story into a campaign for stricter car sales laws. Frankly, blaming the car would be idiotic. But had this woman shot at police, it would be all about blaming the gun. I wish the media could offer some consistency.
A mentally disturbed woman used her car to attack police in DC, and to try and crash the White House gates apparently today. The Other McCain has more on this woman
Consider this just a place-holder post, really. Some crazy lady went on a vehicular rampage in Washington, D.C., today. She reportedly tried to ram the gates at the White House, then led cops on a chase to Capitol Hill, where she rammed a police car before finally being shot to death. She reportedly had a child in the car with her, and the child was unharmed.
Who was this woman? What was her motive?
this point, I have no clue and don’t want to speculate.
The woman was 34, The Other McCain has a photo of her, she was pretty. It is sad, this woman was obviously disturbed. What a shame she could not get whatever help she needed. It is disturbing, to look at a picture of a smiling face and imagine the illness behind those eyes. Here is more on Miriam Carey
Well, this didn’t take very long:
A dental hygienist from Connecticut was the female driver who tried to ram her car into a White House barricade and was shot dead near the US Capitol after a high-speed chase through Washington streets Thursday afternoon, law enforcement sources told The Post.
Sources said Miriam Carey, who formerly lived in Brooklyn, was licensed to practice in New York and Connecticut and had a permit to work as a hygienist in Connecticut prisons. . . .
ABC News said the 34-year-old woman had a history of mental health issues. A task force of FBI and Secret Service agents was executing a search warrant at her Connecticut home, CNN said.
She is not what you expect when you think of someone ramming police cars. You expect some seedy looking guy. Hard to say what it is but something about this story really gets to me. You cannot blame the police, not at all. They did their jobs.

Celebrating Thuggery: Clown Posse on the Potomac

    Posted on by Bill

An unarmed woman was gunned down in or near her vehicle today in the bosom of DC and her child in the car with her was apparently unharmed except for the theft of her mother’s life by the usual armed and badged suspects who bring so much horror and calamity to daily American life. The woman was caught in the cross-hairs of the terror state that has emerged to fight terrorism by using terrorism. Terrorism is politically motivated violence against non-combatants and innocents which fits the political science description of what all statist government does and the tactics employed by its uniformed gangs deployed across the fruited plain to deliver the real war of terror.
After over a decade of hundreds of billions spent to protect the rulers from the various hate groups they have created globally through a war on the world that has rumbled almost continuously since 1893, the woman’s death is yet another footnote in the horror novel known as the United States government. Zombies and vampires don’t hold a candle to the death and destruction wielded and threatened daily by the clown cavalcades that comprise the political ruling class in the US. One can see the zombie-like behavior of most government employees and the vampiric behavior of the taxing entities but the carnage and bloodshed is far worse than any horror novelist could dream up on a daily basis. Skeptics should search for police brutality on YouTube which is only the tip of the iceberg of a phenomenon vastly under-reported.
One would think that after a decade of the billions wasted just mentioned and the enormous bureaucracy in Fatherland Security invested with the august task of protecting the ruling elites, vehicle proof barriers and gates would have not been an afterthought but those who deal with government even at the local level start to realize that, at the end of the day, government is simply a deadly collection of adolescent bullies whose only agenda is the maintenance and expansion of their power over others and the continuation of a very clever money-laundering scheme to vacuum others people’s wealth and resources at the point of a gun into their coffers.
One must also take note that once again, the very well-fed badged warlords of the constabulary most likely reacted the way they did because that what they are paid and incentivized to do. There will be no wrongful death suit. The child will not grow up with her natural mother. The damage will be paid for by the taxpayers, or more likely their grandchildren, since DC is broke by any private standard of accounting.
The self-same uniforms will be retiring to their well-appointed locker rooms to remove their XXXXL uniforms, stop at the bar on the way home and congratulate themselves on saving the nation and continuing the heroic vigil. They will wink and nod at each other that the “turds” (their term of endearment for the scalped taxpayers that pay their wages) just don’t understand the circumstances and the loneliness of the watchtower. They will also be supremely confident that even if the shoot is wrong, the usual stable of hagiographic colon-connoisseur pressitutes will wave the flag and come out of the woodwork to praise the police for what was most certainly a stressful event. If anything the police unions and unlimited immunity clauses in their contracts will help them sleep at night while they dream of the next day possibly getting an opportunity to cuff a six year old, truss up a good-looking woman like a calf at a rodeo or better yet, bust some young college hothead for possessing illegal vegetation.
They will sleep well because of the perverse concept of officer safety where in almost every instance deadly force and maiming can be employed because the cop “thought” he was in danger or perceived jeopardy. Nice work if you can get it. Quite literally, a license to kill in the land of the free.
We all know that under the circumstances, shooting the woman was the only way to go and not disabling the vehicle much like the heroic detectives who perforated the pickup and the two women inside while searching for the “cop-killer” Dorner in California in the recent episode that had the “thin black and blue” line filling their pants in spastic shivering contests of fear at being dealt what they do on a daily basis.
That woman is not dead because anyone was in danger, she is dead because she allegedly endangered the men chasing her. Think about that for an hour. Police start and foment aggression for a living and the “War on Terror” has allowed them to become the rather overweight dominatrices they have always strived to be. Much like Stalin’s Russia and Hitler’s Germany, police behavior is the singular connective tissue that animates and gives life to tyranny. Al Qaeda or whatever vector was responsible for initiating the 9/11 attacks has given new life to the omnipotent state and the terrorists did win.
Not the ones that incinerated themselves in the twin towers but the casual uniformed thugs who don a badge everyday in the 19,000 police agencies across the fruited plain to bust some heads for Caesar.
Grab your air-sickness bags because the government media complex will be spewing much venom about the woman’s instability, her fear of the government and any other tissue of lies that will give the faintest reason for murdering a woman in cold blood.
I do hope that the child grows up to be strong and resistant to state indoctrination and realizes the true reason his mother was taken from him. And I hope the names on the bullets that murdered his mother are burned into his memory.

So... let me get this straight then.

    The AUTHORITIES said:

    1) She was dead.
    2) She's NOT dead, she's in Custody.
    3) She opened fire
    4) She wounded several cops.
    5) She didn't open fire.
    6) She DIDN'T wound cops.
    7) She was a 'small Somali woman', 'this was not terrorism but this was not an accident'....

Whether or not she was a freaking nut case and rammed barrycades - she wasn't a Somali woman, she wasn't alive, she didn't open fire on the cops first, she didn't wound cops (except perhaps the one in the vehicle)....

Source: Schizophrenia meds found at home of Miriam Carey after Capitol chase

By Michael Pearson. Lateef Mungin and Joe Johns, CNN

updated 11:31 AM EDT, Fri October 4, 2013

    Chaos in the nation's capital

    STORY HIGHLIGHTS
    • NEW: Source: Investigators find schizophrenia and depression medications in woman's home
    • Miriam Carey's boyfriend told police she seemed delusional, a source tells CNN
    • The chase began near White House and ended near the Capitol
    • Police shot the woman to death; a young child in the car was unharmed, they say

    Washington (CNN)
-- Authorities investigating why a Connecticut woman rammed barricades and led police on a chase near the U.S. Capitol found medications in her apartment to treat schizophrenia and other mental disorders, a law enforcement source briefed on the investigation said Friday.

The woman was identified by law enforcement sources as Miriam Carey, 34. She was shot dead Thursday in the incident, which played out in one of the most heavily policed places in the world, temporarily locked down Congress and sparked anxiety among tourists and staffers alike.

Two law enforcement officers were injured. Police say Carey rammed barricades and police cruisers and sped down Pennsylvania Avenue before crashing.

She apparently did not have a weapon, but did have a 1-year-old child in the car with her. The child emerged from the chaos unharmed, officials said.

Miriam Carey, shown in a photo from Facebook, was driving with a 1-year-old child.

Woman killed in D.C. chase identified

Authorities who searched the apartment in Stamford, Connecticut, found one medication to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and another that is an antidepressant, according to the source.

A law enforcement source involved in the investigation said Thursday that the woman's boyfriend had told police last winter that she appeared to be delusional.
Authorities have not officially linked the incident to mental illness or any other cause.

The area around Carey's apartment remained cordoned off Friday.

    History of concerns

Carey's boyfriend contacted police in December saying he feared for the safety of their child, who was 4 months old at the time, according to a law enforcement source involved in the investigation. The boyfriend said the woman was acting delusional, claiming the president had placed Stamford under lockdown and that her house was under electronic surveillance, the source said.

He told police that she was suffering from post-partum depression, was having trouble sleeping and was on medication. Carey underwent a mental health evaluation, said the source, who added that the boyfriend has been questioned by federal authorities about Thursday's events.

The source told CNN that Carey left a letter addressed to the boyfriend at her apartment and that it appeared to contain white powder. The letter was being tested for hazardous substances.

    A car chase, gunshots

Thursday's drama began around 2 p.m., when the woman steered a black Infiniti near the White House, a U.S. Secret Service source said. She drove up to a barrier at the 15th and E street checkpoint and was approached by Secret Service officers. She hurriedly made an erratic three-point turn, striking the barrier and backing into an officer before driving away, the source told CNN.

Police said the car sped down Pennsylvania Avenue toward the Capitol, where security vehicles stopped it at Garfield Circle.

The woman slammed the car into reverse, crashing into a police cruiser, and tried to get away. At that point officers began firing, a witness said.

    The shooting during the shutdown

Dramatic video footage by a videographer for Alhurra TV, a Middle Eastern news outlet financed by the U.S. government, showed the black vehicle then speeding around a nearby traffic circle with a police car in close pursuit and then heading away. The car crashed into more security barriers a few blocks later, witnesses said.

More shots were fired after the vehicle stopped, and the woman was hit several times, said Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier. Carey was later pronounced dead, Lanier said. Two officers were injured.

A Capitol Police officer whose vehicle crashed during the chase was hurt, authorities said. The officer was released from a hospital Thursday night. The Secret Service did not release information about its injured agent.

Chaos and a child in the car

Inside the woman's car was a 1-year-old child, who was not harmed. The child was taken into protective custody, officials said. Officers didn't know there was a child inside the woman's car during the chase, officials said. Also, the early investigation revealed that there was no evidence that the woman had a gun or fired a shot.

The bedlam from the fatal chase reverberated throughout a U.S. Capital already shaken by the recent mass shooting at the Navy Yard in the city and on edge due to tensions over the showdown over shutting down the federal government.

Authorities locked down the Capitol building and other government facilities in the area.

House and Senate sessions were immediately suspended, with legislators ordered to take cover and keep away from windows. Police also closed Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House.

Sirens blared as people in and around government office buildings reported hearing gunshots. Bystanders hid in fear.

Shemaiah Ofori-Attah and her hsuband, Edmund, at first thought the speeding black car and sirens were part of a motorcade.

"Then when we heard the gunshots we knew this was something serious, so we just dropped to the ground," she said.

Danny Farkas, the Alhurra videographer, captured the scene. He said he had a fleeting thought that perhaps the driver had explosives in the car.

"I was surprised at the movie-like quality of what was going on in front of me," he told CNN's "New Day."

Why a new mom might put herself -- or her child -- in harm's way

    STORY HIGHLIGHTS

    • About 10% of new mothers develop a condition called postpartum depression
    • Very rarely, a mental illness known as postpartum psychosis can also occur
    • It's normal for new moms to feel overwhelmed, but symptoms should last less than two weeks

    (CNN)
-- Miriam Carey, 34, was shot dead Thursday by Capitol Hill police after she tried to drive into a blocked entrance near the White House with a 1-year-old child in the car.

Carey's boyfriend contacted police in December saying he feared for the safety of their child, who was 4 months old at the time, according to a law enforcement source involved in the investigation. The boyfriend said Carey was acting delusional and suffering from postpartum depression.

Investigators found two medications in Carey's apartment this week -- one used to treat schizophrenia and symptoms of bipolar disorder called Risperidone; the other was Escitalopram, an antidepressant, the source told CNN.

The birth of a baby is supposed to bring parents joy, but some moms experience darker emotions following childbirth. While most women experience a form of the "baby blues" after delivery, between 9 and 16% of mothers suffer from a more severe, long-lasting form of depression called postpartum depression, according to the American Psychological Association.

A mental illness known as postpartum psychosis can also develop after childbirth, but it happens rarely, according to the Mayo Clinic. It's unclear if Carey was ever officially diagnosed with these or other mental health conditions.

Here's a quick breakdown of postpartum depression and psychosis:

    Symptoms
It's normal for new mothers to feel overwhelmed and tired, but sometimes those feelings can develop into something more serious. "Baby blues," which do not require medical attention, can include mood swings, sleep problems, irritability, crying, anxiety and sadness in the first couple of weeks after birth.

Postpartum depression is more intense and intrusive: Women may lose interest in life, withdraw from family and friends, suffer from a loss of appetite and experience feelings of shame, guilt or inadequacy.

The intensity and duration of these feelings distinguish a normal level of stress from a psychological condition. If the mother's experience lasts more than two to three weeks, clinicians usually consider it postpartum depression. Untreated, the condition can last for months or longer, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Postpartum psychosis develops in the first couple of weeks after childbirth and is identified by hallucinations, delusions, paranoia and attempts by the mother to harm herself or her baby.

    What causes it
Doctors do not know why some women have deep sadness and anxiety in the weeks or months following birth and others do not. They suspect a combination of environmental, genetic and biological factors contribute, but every woman is at risk.

After childbirth, a mother's hormone levels -- specifically estrogen and progesterone -- drop sharply, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. This can cause mood swings, depression and fatigue.

Most moms recover from this hormonal imbalance, but extreme fatigue and other lifestyle factors can contribute to a worsening of symptoms. For instance, moms who did not plan to get pregnant or who do not have a strong support system post-childbirth have a higher risk of developing postpartum depression.

Postpartum psychosis is more closely linked to mental illness. A mother is more at risk of developing postpartum psychosis if she or a close family member has had bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, according to ACOG.

"Data suggest that postpartum psychosis is an overt presentation of bipolar disorder that is timed to coincide with tremendous hormonal shifts after delivery," a review of postpartum psychosis published in the Journal of Women's Health stated.

    Treatment
New moms should try to take care of themselves as well as their babies, ACOG says. Sleep when the baby sleeps, ask for help from family and friends, and take some time to do things outside the house.

If you are feeling depressed more than a week or two after giving birth, talk to your doctor.

Cognitive behavioral therapy -- which focuses on changing thought patterns -- and antidepressant or anti-anxiety medications are all treatment options for women with postpartum depression.

Postpartum psychosis requires more immediate attention, according to the Mayo Clinic. Mothers who are suffering from hallucinations or paranoia should be brought to the hospital, where doctors will assess their mental stability. Occasionally electroconvulsive therapy, or small electrical shocks to the brain, is recommended.

"The chemical changes triggered by the electrical currents can reduce the symptoms of depression, especially when other treatments have failed," the Mayo Clinic website explains.
