    Default Terrorism in Canada

Ok... this is all fluid and breaking news.

"Several dozen shots fired inside the Parliament in Ottawa".

One solider is down, condition unknown. A cell phone has been discovered at the Memorial where that shooting took place.

Mounties are surrounding the building, and the gunman (gunmen) unaccounted for.

Three days or so ago, some military personnel were killed by a "terrorist".

Canadian Parliament in complete lock down.

Shooting Suspect at Large Inside Canadian Parliament: Reports

At least one suspected shooter was at large in Ottawa, Ontario Wednesday, firing shots inside Canada's parliament after first shooting a soldier in uniform, according to multiple local reports.

Armed police surrounded the parliament and escorted some lawmakers and reporters to safety.

“Parliament shooting a very active situation still at the moment,” Globe and Mail reporter Josh Wingrove posted on Twitter. “They are searching the building, presumably for a suspect or suspects.”

Lawmaker Michelle Rempel posted a message to her loved ones on Twitter to say she was still alive. "Mom I'm okay, I'm hiding," she wrote.

The soldier was being treated at the scene for his injuries according to a producer for Canadian broadcaster, CBC.

Shots fired on Parliament Hill, soldier injured at National War Memorial

    The Canadian Press
    October 22, 2014 08:01 AM
    Updated: October 22, 2014 08:01 AM

RCMP intervention team members walk past a gate on Parliament hill in Ottawa on Wednesday. A Canadian soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa has been shot by an unknown gunman and there are reports of gunfire inside the halls of Parliament.

OTTAWA - A soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa has been shot by an unknown gunman, who then moved to nearby Parliament Hill and opened fire inside the Centre Block.

Conservative MP Bob Zimmer has tweeted that the gunman was shot and killed, but that report was not be immediately verified by police.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper was rushed away from the building to an undisclosed location, officials in his office said.

Ottawa police confirmed they had a call at 9:52 a.m. with a report of shots fired.

The gunman reportedly ran towards Parliament Hill, which is currently under lockdown and surrounded by security.

Cabinet minister Tony Clement tweeted that at least 30 shots were heard inside the building, where Conservative and Liberal MPs were holding their weekly caucus meetings.

Most of those MPs remain locked down in their caucus rooms.

The NDP caucus was evacuated along with the Liberal Senate caucus.

A witness reported that a man drove up in a black vehicle, got out carrying a rifle and ran into the Centre Block — the seat of the House of Commons under the Peace Tower.

Witnesses reported hearing shots fired in several different corridors. Some people fled the building by scrambling down scaffolding erected for renovations.

Chuck Bronley of Ottawa said he was near the memorial when he heard four shots and saw a man running away carrying a rifle.

A tourist from the Netherlands was also nearby when he heard four shots, and saw an armed man with long, dark hair fleeing.

Police were yelling at bystanders, shouting that there was still a shooter on the loose.

"DND member is down," one officer was overheard saying.

Bronley was fairly certain the victim was one of the ceremonial guards at the War Memorial.

Two people vigorously pumped the victim's chest on the stairs of the War Memorial, until the victim was finally placed on a stretcher and ushered into an ambulance shortly after 10 a.m.

The incident comes just two days after two Canadian soldiers were run over — and one of them killed — in Quebec by a man with jihadist sympathies.

Maybe the second body is the bad guy?

Conservative MP Bob Zimmer has tweeted that a gunman was shot and killed, but that report was not immediately verified by police.

Two sources told The Canadian Press that Kevin Vickers, the sergeant-at-arms for the House of Commons, shot an assailant.

There is the possibility there is a second man.

This has now been considered a "terrorist attack".

They believe this to be a coordinated attack targeting soldiers.

reports are that other shots have been fired by a hotel down the street.

But a reporter at the place says no one of the reporters have heard any shots fired. So there could be some confusion (ya think?)

Not sure if you're referring to today's incident or the one from a couple days ago. Here's the one from two days back:

Canadian soldier dies after suspected Islamic radical’s car attack

    Published time: October 21, 2014 20:12

A Surete du Quebec (SQ) officer investigates an overturned vehicle in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec October 20, 2014.(Reuters / Christinne Muschi)

A soldier from Canada has been killed after a road accident suspected to have been caused by an Islamic militant. He was one of two soldiers involved in the attack which is the first of its kind in Canada since it joined the fight against IS.

The identity of the soldier who died on Tuesday has not yet been released, a police spokesman told Reuters. The 25-year-old driver, however, was identified by Canadian media as Martin Couture-Rouleau who was a Quebec resident.

The anonymous soldier had been walking near a Quebec shopping center when he was mowed down in an attack, following a car chase, which police officials say was deliberate. The incident took place in the town of Saint-Jean-sue-Richelieu on Monday. Rouleau was shot dead by police shortly after the attack.

His Facebook page, under the name Ahmad Rouleau, displays some anti-Christian and pro-Islamic posts.

Unnamed sources told local La Presse and Journal de Montreal, that Rouleau’s passport had been confiscated earlier in the year, while a neighbor, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said he became radicalized approximately a year ago.

A Surete du Quebec (SQ) officer investigates the scene of a police shooting in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec October 20, 2014.(Reuters / Christinne Muschi)

He was apparently known to authorities, according to Prime Minister Stephen Harper's office. Harper told reporters on Tuesday that the attack had been “clearly linked to terrorist ideology”.

Canada has frequently expressed concern over the potential for young men to become radicalized and has already committed itself to sending six fighter jets to participate in the anti-IS campaign in Iraq. It made the commitment on October 7.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) stated on Monday that there was concern over how the IS social media campaign contributed to radicalization.

Jeff Yaworski, deputy director of operations at the spy agency said on Monday that the IS “message and successful social media strategy could inspire radicalized individuals to undertake attacks here in Canada.”

He added that there are some 50 people who are actively involved with IS in Canada. However, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has been monitoring roughly 90 individuals who have been intending to go abroad.
