High speed maneuver warfare is pretty new thing truth be told.

Remember, when these trucks came out the national speed limit was 55 and there were tons of M60 tanks with their 30 MPH top road speed still in active use. Convoy speed was/is 55.

Dave drove a 6.2 truck when he was active duty Army comms that had a shelter and towed a 10kw generator on a trailer. He said it ungodly slow. Thankfully the military was smart enough to not heavily up armor too many of the naturally aspirated/3 speed trucks. The 998 family trucks never got much more than frag/pistol rated armor. The A2 trucks like the M1123 started getting add-on armor only out of necessity because of how many were in inventory and pretty quickly got replaced with the ECV/REV turbo trucks. Thankfully AM General had had plenty of experience sticking turbo 6.5s in these because of the H1 and was able to start delivering turbo military trucks pretty quickly. The first ECV trucks came out in 2004 but AMG had been putting turbos in the platform since '96.

My buddy Steve's 5 ton has an "Overspeed" light on the dash. It starts flashing when you hit 50.
