    Default Political Violence

I knew we had threads covering various instances of it but I couldn't find a thread dedicated solely to covering political violence in the US so I decided to start this one up since it seems like it's becoming a more common occurrence.

Anti-Trump Activist Accused Of Shooting, Killing Trump-Supporting Neighbor With Semi-Automatic

    August 15, 2017

Clayton Carter, a 51-year-old resident of West Goshen, Pennsylvania, was accused of shooting and killing his neighbor after a “long-running dispute.”

Carter allegedly shot his neighbor, Brooks Jennings, 51, twice in the head with a semi-automatic handgun as the two faced off in Jennings’ yard. Carter was arrested and taken into custody, and was later charged with first-degree murder and related offenses.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan commented on the shooting and said, “This killing leaves a wife without a husband, a little boy without a father, and a community in shock and mourning.”

Hogan said that the shooting death of Jennings was the culmination of a long-running feud between the two neighbors.

It was reported that before the fatal shooting, local law enforcement were called to break up a verbal argument between the two men.

Several hours after the police left, they were called again after Carter and Jennings were said to be involved in a property spotlight dispute. Jennings was said to be shining a flashlight in Carter’s face, and in retaliation, Carter allegedly shined his vehicle’s high-beams into the windows of Jennings’ home.

According to NBC Philadelphia, Carter told law enforcement that Jennings had tried to attack him with a knife and his reported shooting was in self-defense.

“My client is claiming self-defense and justification,” Carter’s attorney, Terrence Marlowe said in a statement. “Mr. Jennings was tormenting him and attacked him with a knife.”

Philly.com reported that the feud between the two men resulted in over 70 calls to police over the last five years.

World Net Daily reported that Carter’s yard was filled with “anti-Trump signs,” and noted that Carter had a criminal record dating back nearly two decades for violence-related offenses.

Jennings, a former member of the Chester County Republican Committee, leaves behind a 9-year-old son and wife.

Watching FNC for coverage on Harvey and Tucker is on right now doing a segment on Leftist violence in Berkley.

I can't help but think some folks really need to turn a few peoples' heads into canoes to put this shit in check.

Unfortunately, anyone that does that or even fights back in the least is going to have their lives fucked over by the legal system. Because of that, these Marxist assholes will continue to be emboldened until someone does get fed up and toss a few lead pills their way.

    Once that happens...

FBI Investigates Incident At Civil War Re-Enactment

    October 15, 2017

The site for the Cedar Creek Battlefield re-enactment was evacuated Saturday evening after a "suspicious package" was found, according to a spokesperson with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Earlier in the week, a reported threat was received, prompting organizers to increase security.

The spokesperson told WHSV attendees were evacuated to a nearby elementary school while authorities scanned the area for any other possible items.

This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available

    UPDATE 12:50 a.m. 10/15/17:

The Cedar Creek Battlefield re-enactment will be cut short after a suspicious package was found at the site Saturday evening.

"Due to this unfortunate situation, our event staff is unable to fulfill the required logistical needs to continue the event on Sunday," Joe D'Arezzo, the President of the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation, said in a statement released by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. "It is regrettable that a nice family event would be disrupted in this way."

As of early Sunday morning, authorities still had not confirmed the content of the suspicious package found. The Sheriff's Office said, however, the Virginia State Police Bomb Squad was called in and '"rendered the device safe."

    UPDATE 11:00 a.m. 10/15/17:

The FBI asked for the public's help with an ongoing investigation into an incident during a Civil War re-enactment at the Cedar Creek & Belle Grove National Historical Park on Saturday.

The agency reported a device was found and rendered safe by police.

The FBI asked anybody who "witnessed any suspicious activity" to contact the agency at 804-261-1044.

Man Who Planted Bomb At NC Airport 'Wanted To Fight A War On U.S. Soil,' FBI Says

    October 13, 2017

Michael Christopher Estes allegedly said he wanted to "fight a war on U.S. soil."

A North Carolina man who police say planted a bomb at Asheville Regional Airport told investigators he was preparing to “fight a war on U.S. soil,” according to an FBI criminal complaint filed this week.

Michael Christopher Estes, 46, is accused of planting an improvised explosive device that contained ammonium nitrate – a highly flammable chemical compound – nails, oil and shotgun cartridges just outside the North Carolina airport, police said. The homemade bomb, left on a curb outside the airport’s baggage area, was taped to a ticking alarm clock that was set to go off at 6 a.m., the criminal complaint said.

The bomb was found at 7 a.m. on Oct. 6 and prompted authorities to immediately shut down the airport. The airport reopened about two hours later, according to Fox Carolina.

Near the airport, police found a backpack and tool bag containing shotgun shells, gloves and a roll of Gorilla tape similar to what was used in the IED.

That led investigators to several stores, including an REI in Asheville, where Estes allegedly purchased the backpack. He paid in cash but used an REI membership number when paying, police said. Estes was arrested Oct. 7.

Estes faces charges for attempted malicious use of explosive materials and unlawful possession of explosive materials in an airport.

He reportedly told FBI agents he bought the materials to make the explosive because he was "ready to fight a war on U.S. soil."

Sen. Rand Paul’s Injuries Far More Severe Than Initially Thought

    November 5, 2017

Sen. Rand Paul is recovering from five broken ribs and bruises to his lungs, and it is unclear when he will return to Washington, aides said Sunday, signaling that injuries he sustained Friday are far more severe than initially thought.

The second-term Republican senator from Kentucky and 2016 presidential candidate was attacked, allegedly by a next-door neighbor, Rene Boucher, 59, who was charged with fourth-degree assault.

Paul made his first public comments since the incident on Sunday, tweeting that his wife “Kelley and I appreciate the overwhelming support after Friday’s unfortunate event. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Doug Stafford, Paul’s chief of staff, said in a statement Sunday that the senator has five rib fractures, including three displaced fractures, meaning the bones are partly or completely cracked.

“This type of injury is caused by high velocity severe force. It is not clear exactly how soon he will return to work, as the pain is considerable as is the difficulty in getting around, including flying,” Stafford said.

Paul has lung contusions, or bruises, caused by the broken ribs, Stafford said. He could not say whether one lung was bruised or both, but said Paul’s recovery could last several months. Such fractures can cause other significant medical problems, including internal bleeding, damage to other organs or pneumonia.

The nature of the dispute between Paul and Boucher remained a mystery Sunday to locals who know both men as medical professionals based in this southwestern Kentucky town.

Paul is an ophthalmologist who has practiced in town since moving here with his wife in 1993. He continues to provide free medical care to low-income Kentucky residents on a regular basis throughout the year when the Senate is not in session.

Boucher is an anesthesiologist and the inventor of the Therm-a-Vest, a cloth vest partly filled with rice and secured with Velcro straps that is designed to help with back pain. He has worked at several local medical facilities through the years, according to public health records.

David Ciochetty, a doctor with Interventional Pain Specialists in Bowling Green, said in an interview Sunday that Boucher worked there as a “general pain medicine physician” for about a year and a half beginning in January 2010 before leaving.

Asked whether he knew what might cause Boucher to lash out, Ciochetty said, “The rest of Bowling Green would like to know that, too. I was quite surprised to see this in the news.”

Ciochetty said Boucher used to work as an anesthesiologist at the hospital but “told people that he sustained a neck injury and could not continue his anesthesiology duties.”

After Boucher left IPS, Ciochetty did not hear of him practicing anywhere else.

Paul had full staff privileges at the hospital when Boucher worked there, so Paul and Boucher “must have worked together at some point,” Ciochetty said.

Boucher was released Saturday on $7,500 bond, according to county jail records. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 9.

A motive is not known, and there is no indication that the attack was political in nature.

Jeff Jones, a registered nurse who worked with Boucher at the Bowling Green Medical Center, described Boucher’s politics as “liberal.”

“He was active on social media and said some negative things about the Republican agenda,” Jones said.

“I think it was unfortunate that they lived so close together,” he added.

A Facebook page that appeared to be Boucher’s included links to articles and memes critical of President Trump and a news article about a Montana Republican congressional candidate who attacked a reporter the day before winning his seat. The page said Boucher is a former Army pain-management specialist and graduated from the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines in 1984.

By late Saturday, the page had been overrun by other Facebook users criticizing Boucher for the alleged assault. On Sunday, the page appeared to be blocked from public view.

Jim Bullington, a former member of the city commission, knows both men. He said Sunday that Boucher is divorced and lives alone. Bullington described Boucher as a socialist.

“He’s pretty much the opposite of Rand Paul in every way,” Bullington said in an interview.

The neighbors had been known to have “heated discussions” about health care, Bullington said, adding that Boucher is an advocate of a national health system.

Paul, an outspoken libertarian, voted last summer against a Republican plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act, saying the plan didn’t go far enough in repealing the 2010 health-care law.

Robert Porter, a friend of Paul’s, said late Saturday that the senator was mowing his lawn moments before the attack.

Paul and Boucher live side by side along a small lake in Rivergreen, a close-knit gated community with large houses. On Sunday afternoon, nobody answered at Boucher’s home. Next door at the Paul residence, four people were seen doing yard work. Other neighbors were out walking, enjoying the unseasonably warm weather.

The senator joins a growing list of lawmakers in both parties who have been attacked or threatened with violence this year. Congressional security officials have investigated thousands of general or specific threats against Democratic and Republican lawmakers.

The threats turned to violence during the summer when House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) was nearly killed by a gunman who showed up at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Va.

Paul, a member of the team, was on the field at the time of the shooting but was not hurt.

More recently, Rep. Frederica S. Wilson (D-Fla.) skipped several days of votes after threats were made against her after she sparred with Trump over the treatment of the widow of a U.S. soldier killed in Niger.

Neighbors Say Rand Paul’s Attacker Was An Avowed Socialist

    November 5, 2017

The man responsible for attacking Sen. Rand Paul Friday afternoon was an avowed liberal who frequently fought with his neighbors about politics, according to a report Sunday from The Washington Post.

Local citizens say Rene Boucher, the 59-year-old man who assaulted Paul, was a socialist who frequently fought with neighbors about health care policies and other liberal issues. Boucher and Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, are on the opposite end of the political spectrum, they told reporters.

Jeff Jones, a registered nurse who worked with Boucher at the Bowling Green Medical Center, described Paul’s attacker’s politics as “liberal.”

“He was active on social media and said some negative things about the Republican agenda,” Jones said of Boucher, a Bowling Green, Ky., citizen who lives in the same gated community as Paul. “I think it was unfortunate that they lived so close together.”

Boucher is a divorced socialist who is “pretty much the opposite of Rand Paul in every way,” Jim Bullington, a former member of the city commission who knows both men well, told reporters Sunday.

A Facebook account Boucher maintained before the attack contains numerous anti-Republican postings.

Boucher wrote “May Robert Mueller fry Trump’s gonads” in a May post referencing the former FBI director’s investigation into possible collusion between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russian government.

Paul is an ophthalmologist who has practiced in Bowling Green since moving there with his wife in the early 1990s. Boucher, meanwhile, is an anesthesiologist and the inventor of the Therm-a-Vest, a vest designed to help with back pain.

Paul had staff privileges at the hospital where Boucher worked, so Paul and Boucher “must have worked together at some point,” David Ciochetty, a doctor with Interventional Pain Specialists in Bowling Green, told reporters.

Paul’s injuries were far worse than initially reported. He has lung contusions, or bruises, caused by the broken ribs, Doug Stafford, Paul’s chief of staff, said in a statement Sunday. The type of fractures the senator sustained can cause other significant medical problems, including internal bleeding and pneumonia.

“This type of injury is caused by high velocity severe force. It is not clear exactly how soon he will return to work, as the pain is considerable as is the difficulty in getting around, including flying,” Stafford said.
