Jesse MacBeth -- Fake Military Records?

Today, the Army ran a check on Mr. MacBeth’s credentials. It turns out, not surprisingly to anybody with half a mind, that Mr. MacBeth has NO Army service record. Anywhere. Period. This is a direct quote given to me by Army spokesman John Boyce:

“Initial research by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg shows no Soldier with the name of Jesse Macbeth having ever been assigned to the Special Forces or the Army Rangers — which are, in fact, two separate disciplines. This appears to be some sort of hoax. No Soldier by that name at Fort Lewis to our knowledge, in the past, either. Of course, the line about “go into the Army or go to jail” is vintage TV script not heard since the 1960s. There are also numerous wear and appearance issues with the Soldier’s uniform — a mix of foreign uniforms with the sleeves rolled up like a Marine and a badly floppy tan beret worn like a pastry chef. Of course, the allegations of war crimes are vague, as are the awards the Soldier allegedly received.”

Jesse Adam Macbeth (born Jesse Adam Al-Zaid,[1] 1984) is a self-professed Army Ranger and veteran of the Iraq War who falsely alleged in alternative media interviews that he and his unit routinely committed war crimes in Iraq.[2][3] Macbeth began to attract significant attention after the release of a video containing his allegations;[4] transcripts of the video were made in English and Arabic.[5] According to the U.S. Army, there is no record of Macbeth being a Ranger,[6][7] or serving in a combat unit: he was discharged from the service after having been declared unfit or unsuitable for the Army, or both,[8] before he could complete basic training.[9]

After his release from the Army in 2004, Macbeth purported himself to be a veteran, telling war stories and garnering attention from mainstream,[10] alternative[11] and student media outlets.[12][13][14][15] He joined Iraq Veterans Against the War in January of 2006,[16] and represented, or was scheduled to represent them publicly at various events throughout the country;[17][18][19] the organization has since said it does not endorse Macbeth or his accounts of military service.[16] Accounts in Macbeth's name appear on Military.com and Myspace.com, and both were used to post claims about military service in Iraq.[20][21]

Generally, I won't give idiots like this ANY press if I don't have to.

However, over the years I've run into a LOT of bozos who claim this or that service. Hell, I've been accused of being a "Government Plant" by some famous (perhaps INfamous might be a better phrase) people, like Richard Hoagland.

There are multiple, public statements by people over at Anomalies.net who used their time "wisely" to accuse me of being everything from a Nazi, to being "just a liar" about things. However, MY military record stands and is true. People like this "War Crimes" MacBeth just make me sick.

They are part and parcel of the reason that "Conspiracy Theorists" exist at all. Someone comes along, makes statements that go unchecked because the material he or she is presenting is precisely what the Anti-whatever-Campaign needs at the moment. For instance, the "Global Warming" crowd, is still using flawed data. Anti-War folks use John Kerry's remarks in the "Winter Soldier" crap back in the 1970s.

To me, anyone that stands up and "admits" to "war crimes" ought to be DEEPLY investigated, and in fact arrested for making such an "admission of guilt" and held as a danger to the general population.

Never MIND they didn't actually DO anything. The admission ought to be sufficient to hold them until they have been investigated and examined carefully by medical personnel who can make a determination as to whether they are fit to stand trial. If not, then they should sit in a medical facility for a time recommended by a judge.

If, after a time they are found to be guilty by a trial, they should go to jail.

What's this MacBeth's crime? Lying. A lot of it. He attempted to make the our Special Forces appear to be evil, inbred people capable of murdering innocent children. He lied. He OUGHT to be turned over to the Special Forces for a few days of "training" in my humble opinion.

No... MacBeth's actions NEED to be shown to the American Public, in Spades... he needs to be shown for precisely what he is, a lying sack of shit intent of doing harm to the US military through made up lies.

Macbeth is a former US Army Ranger, who served in Iraq for 16 months before being wounded and ultimately discharged. His squad did night raids, using the same techniques the Marines are accused of, 4 or 5 times a night for many months. Macbeth, who is now a member of "Iraq Veterans Against the War," was interviewed for the public access TV show "Indymedia Presents." His story is available here: www.peacefilms.org. In this interview Jessie describes killing children to make the parents talk. He describes one episode where his squad responded to the much-reported incident in Falluja where 4 US mercenaries were killed and hung from a bridge. Shortly after Iraqis killed the mercenaries, according to Macbeth, his squad of Rangers gunned down Iraqis praying inside a mosque on a holy day, then hung some of the bodies from rafters, and defaced the mosque with graffiti. Macbeth's hand held the smoking gun, and his testimony in this interview shows clearly that the Marines who are now in trouble for very similar actions are not the exception to US tactics in Iraq, but represent only one in many incidents of war crimes.

Fallujah is where we slaughtered people in mosques. We provoked the people there. Some people escaped from the mosques and saw us. We would dig holes and leave mass graves of children, women, and old men. We were ordered to let people die on the street. We were told that the Geneva Convention means nothing to us in combat.

He was involved in a protest at a coffeshop near Arizona State University in April, 2004 -- barely a year after the war in Iraq began. He claims he "returned from Iraq after sustaining a back injury" (no mention of slaughtering women and children). He couldn't possibly have completed a 16-month tour by then, without the benefit of a time machine.

Jesse MacBeth told another story.

MacBeth, a 20-year-old U.S. soldier who recently returned from Iraq after sustaining a back injury, said Coffee Plantation banned him from the store in March for the way he was dressed -- in his training uniform.

He had been sipping coffee calmly when a store employee asked him to leave. He refused.

Management insisted that he leave even after he took out his military ID card. Security guards escorted him off the premises under threat of arrest if he returned.

He said he hoped the protest would disrupt the flow of customers into the store.

"If you cut down the customers a lot, then they won't keep their business going," MacBeth said. "That's the whole point, to let society know what's going on."

How did you end up in the military?
I grew up on the streets. I got into trouble for fighting. The same judge that I'd been dealing with my whole life told me that I wouldn't have to do adult time if I signed up for the military immediately. Sometimes I kinda wish I went to jail instead.

How did you become a Special Forces Ranger?
Basic training was easy for me. Growing up on the streets, I was used to running from cops. I was used to not eating for days. I got picked to go to Ranger School.

What did your division do?
I was in the Third Ranger Battalion. Our job was to strike fear in the hearts of the Iraqi people.

We would go into people's houses and plow down entire families. We would interrogate people. If we didn't like the answers that they gave, then we would kill the youngest child. If they gave more answers that we didn't like, then we'd move on to the rest of the family. They could've been innocent people.

We were ordered to fire on peaceful protesters in Fallujah. Somebody threw a rock at us, and an officer said that he thought it was a grenade. Then we were ordered to fire. When it's daylight in Iraq, it's daylight! Nobody really thought it was a grenade.

Statement on Jesse MacBeth interview in Justice

Over the past few days a number of questions have emerged which throw serious doubt on the authenticity of Jesse MacBeth’s claims about being a U.S. soldier in Iraq. We have therefore taken our interview with Jesse MacBeth off our website.

We completely reject any use of false statements in the mistaken belief that they can in some way strengthen opposition to the war. The case against the war is overwhelming and the majority of Americans now oppose Bush's disastrous policies in Iraq. Any resort to deception is unacceptable and counter-productive.

Every day brings new accounts of the horror and human tragedy caused by the U.S. occupation of Iraq. While Bush relies on a daily propaganda machine to paint a phony picture of “progress in Iraq,” we stand for a full and open disclosure of the facts of the war and the reality of the U.S. occupation. While right-wing blogs and corporate media outlets are attempting to use Jesse MacBeth to discredit the antiwar movement, we should remember that it was the Bush regime which systematically lied to justify the invasion of Iraq, resulting in the death of almost 2,500 U.S. soldiers and over 100,000 Iraqis.
