An airport terminal in Huntington, West Virginia has been evacuated after explosives tests on two containers in a woman's luggage came up positive. The containers were seen in the woman's hand luggage and subjected to swab tests and sniffer dog examinations, both of which gave positive results.

Officials say the woman is of Pakistani origin and was travelling on a one-way ticket to Charlotte, North Carolina.
She has been detained and is now being questioned by FBI officials.

    'Highly sensitive'
According to the woman's travel documents she is from Jackson, Michigan and was born in 1978.

Chris Yates from Jane's Aviation told the BBC that both the swab and sniffer dog tests were extremely sensitive.

The likelihood that a container that had not come into contact with explosives would come up positive on both tests was extremely low, he said.

The containers have been moved to a remote area by robot for further tests, Tri-State Airport director Larry Salyers said.
About 100 passengers have been affected by the evacuation, airport officials say.

Bob Aaron from local TV station WCHS-TV is at the scene, and he told the BBC that security at the small regional airport is not very sophisticated, relying on a few security screeners.

The incident comes a week after UK intelligence officers say they foiled a plot to blow up planes using liquid explosives.

This is the second security alert at US airports in as many days.
On Wednesday a United Airlines passenger jet flying from London to Washington was diverted and escorted to Boston after an on-board disturbance.

W.Va. terminal evacuated after suspicious liquid found in luggage
    August 17, 2006 7:26 PM

    CEREDO, W.Va.
A scientist says today's incident at Tri-State Airport in which two containers tested positive for explosive residues could be totally innocent.

Neal Langerman of San-Diego-based consulting firm Advanced Chemical Safety says common household products could get a reaction in a swab test. He says bomb-sniffing dogs are generally more discriminating, but can often be confused.

The female passenger carrying the items is being questioned but has not been arrested.

The items were removed from the unidentified woman's carry-on bag by an airport screener this morning because all liquids, gels and pastes have been banned from public air travel since last week's attempted terrorist attack in England.

Airport Manager Larry Salyers says the 28-year-old Huntington-area woman was boarding a 9:15 am flight to Charlotte, North Carolina, and from there was headed to Detroit. She had purchased a one-way ticket.

Salyers says at one time, the woman lived in Michigan and is of Pakistani descent.

The airport was evacuated at about noon. The suspicious items were to be moved to a remote area of the airport for chemical testing.

May be small but they caught what a lot of airports let go thru!

and of Pakistani origin. Hmmm. Well, just an FYI. Jackson prison is there, and I wonder if she knows somebody who's incarcerated, which would be one reason to live there.

If I carry my hand gun in my backpack, my backpack will come up positive for explosives, if the weapon has previously been shot.

My vehicle always comes up positive when the dogs check it

What dogs are checking your vehicle, Rick?

It isn't that anybody is jumping to conclusions, it's just that you have to think for yourself and investigate whatever you can and draw conclusions based on what possibilities there are in existence today--these days w/ so much being dismissed, even by the FBI.

...but then again, are you inferring that since you had had your gun in the vehicle and in the backpack, you are agreeing that something had indeed been there to give several positive results?
