Default Missile Fired at an Escort Helicopter with Sen. McCain's

    http://www.azcentral.com/news/0903mccainchopper-CR.html

A missile was fired at a helicopter escorting Sen. John McCain during a visit to the Republic of Georgia last week.

A statement from that nation’s interior ministry says the surface-to-air missile was aimed at a chopper involved in a visit of a U.S. Senate delegation to the former Soviet republic. McCain was mentioned as the leader of the group.

The ministry statement claims American officials were notified of the incident. State Dept. spokeswoman Joanne Moore told the Associated Press she had no information about the reported attack.

Can anyone else do better than the State Dept. about info on this event? *glances at Sean O.*

Top Stories: World : Surface to Air Missile fired at McCain escort helicopter during European visit

5 September 2006: A surface-to-air missile was fired at a helicopter escorting US Senator John McCain during a visit to the Republic of Georgia last week. Information about this missile attack against McCain’s helicopter was included in a statement about a Sunday attack on a helicopter carrying Georgia’s defense minister. His aircraft was damaged by large-caliber machine gun fire and forced to make an emergency landing. No one was injured in either incident. The president of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, is a strong ally of the U.S.

This is the second incident intentionally directed at a very high profile American political figure.

In May 2005 a live fragmentary genade was thrown at President George W. Bush while on an offical visit to the Republic of Georgia.

These incidents were NO ACCIDENT, and were not the actions of rogue actors or rogue elements of any government. They are direct messages from a certain government whose vested interest is the removal of all American influence and activity in the former-Soviet Socialist Republic of Georgia.

The attempted assassination of a sitting American president and a powerful US Senator are not the actions of an ally, not by any stretch of the imagination. These acts can be more clearly defined, at least in times of less rampant "political correctness", specifically as "Acts of War."

    Period.

From what I have heard, Russia has had quite a hand in supplying South Ossetia with weapons and trained manpower.

They are doing this to attempt to egg Georgia and South Ossetia into armed conflict so that Russia has an excuse to move their military into the region to "pacify" the situation and, therefore, bring Georgia back under their control.

This attack was one of those incidents meant to provoke Georgia into action.
