Default 'Puter, Software and other Issues

I just recovered my home PC from the infamous black-screen-of-death message which reads"

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    [windows root]\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
Easier said than done. My 'Puters recovery was brutal, bloody and the fact that my PC lives at this point is the best that can be said of this turn of events.

All attempts to do a "Last Known Good Operation" failed. All attempts to effect a non-destructive recovery failed.

Just glad to be here, and to have my trusty Compaq Presario laptop as an emergency backup.

Use this thread for any similar issues as the thread topic title suggests.

Here's something I just noticed in re-populating my favorites list.

If you come here via http://transasianaxis.com certain software functions will not work. For example, toggling the ticker on/off will not function, that button is non-functional.

However, if you come here via http://www.transasianaxis.com full functionality is available.

    Hmmm.

the javascript has some hardcoded references to www.transasianaxis.com so that is probably causing it to not work on transasianaxis.com, need to relative path it i think

Yep, a coding oversight by myself.

    I'll get it fixed.

Ok, I am going to show my 'er' ignorance here. How do I make my computer let me go to the chat room, or make it let me utilize chat? I really don't want to spend weeks reading help files till I figure it out and more importantly I would rather not 'experiment' and leave my computer vulnerable to other stuff--- I just got it operational again.

    Thanks guys

Hi Isaiah. Check your pms. You should be able to access chat by hitting flashchat at the top right where TAA options are. Then you'll need to put in your screen name here and your password. I'll try to help you get in there.

After the recovery of my formerly favorite P4 2.93Gig PC a while back I was tentative on investing new parts to this box. i don't like sudden crashes; doesn't do anything for my confidence factor in the machine at all.

Well... a few software upgrades and - bada-bing bada-boom - this machine got back into my good graces. So much back into my good graces that I just rewarded her by pulling out the factory 512MB of RAM, gave her a good dusting and anti-stat prep and then I installed 2 GB of RAM.

My baby is a real screeeeeeamer now! Hooah.

She's a Lightspeed Mama on a monser UPS. Let's roll.

i just got my machine back together as well. ive got a sweet HP laptop that i am just crazy about. two gigs of RAM, 15.4 inch brightview screen, turion 66 dual core processor, 128 mb graphics card, and a brand new 7200 rpm 80 gig hard drive, and a fresh install of XP Pro. lovin my machine again. it was sweet to begin with, but the new hard drive is making a big difference. this thing is sweet. i finally broke down and bought the laptop this past spring as a supplement to the desktop machine i had, and i like the laptop so much i rarely actually use the desktop anymore.
