    Default Liberal Tolerance and Compassion

Vandals Paint 'Bush Nazis' On Veteran's House
SHORELINE - Ken Potts calls himself a patriot. That's what his front yard tells you too.

Metal American flags are staked in the ivy beside the driveway. A red, white, and blue pinwheel spins near the front sidewalk. One flagpole flies the American flag. A second flagpole carries the banner of the Army's 101st Airborne.

Even his mailbox on North 185th Street in Shoreline sports the image of the Airborne's screaming eagle.

But he says that in the last year the mailbox has been blown up twice with fireworks. The house has been egged. Paint has been thrown on the house too. The flags have been torn down and ripped up more than once.

And the 101st Airborne flag has had the word "murder" and a swastika written on it with a permanent marker.

"It's really difficult for me to see something like this and not feel sad," Potts told us of the vandalism that started around election day last year. Especially, he says, since the 101st led the charge in World War II to defeat Nazi Germany.

But the biggest insult to this house with a permanent Bush-Cheney placard attached to the second story and a collection of mostly Republican election signs in the side yard, is the spray paint someone left on his vinyl siding this past weekend.

In two-foot tall letters on the side of his house facing Meridian someone painted "Bush Nazis."

"Where do they get off calling the President of the United States a Nazi," he said.

This former soldier with three tours of Vietnam says he feels like his own freedom of speech is under attack.

"When you have someone or a group of people who want to take that away from you, who probably didn't do a thing to defend them in the first place, it's really sad."

But to fight back he always puts new flags back on those front yard flagpoles.

He installed a security camera that keeps watch over his front yard. And for his own political jab he put an electronic readerboard in a front window. 24 hours a day it says: "Liberalism - is a mental disorder." (LOL! Classic! )

"I want to make sure that they know I can't be pushed around."

And he says he'll leave the spray painted "Bush Nazis" on the side of his house for a while to show people on this busy corner what tolerance "doesn't" look like.

He also says he's turned the other cheek and doesn't want prosecution or revenge. He says he'd like to meet the vandal or vandals and have a friendly American debate instead.

"If we want to have disagreements in this country there's ways to have disagreements and there's ways to have a dialogue. If you've got a problem with me come up and talk about it. We may not even agree but we can agree to disagree."

Molotov Cocktail Hits Officer During Anti-Bush Protest
SAN FRANCISCO -- During a protest against the Bush administration Wednesday, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a building and fell on a police officer, lighting his uniform on fire.

Officer Gary Constantine said the cocktail fell on his shoulder and lit the side of his uniform on fire. He was able to put the fire out with his hand and was not seriously injured.

A witness told NBC11 that he saw the cocktail hit the side of a building and ricocheted down onto the police officer.

San Francisco police estimate a few thousand protestors attended the protest.

The protest began at noon at Civic Center and later moved to Mission Street, then Third Street and back up Market Street, where the group is making its way back to Civic Center.

At least 100 police officers are escorting the crowd and have blocked off Larkin while the group makes its way through that intersection.

Police Officer Edward O'Toole said "a few thousand" people were participating in the protest and that there were more to start with.

Protesters are carrying signs in both English and Spanish that read, "Drive out the Bush Regime" and "World Can't Wait."

The protest was put on by group "World Can't Wait! Drive Out The Bush Regime!"

Officers with batons and riot helmets are escorting the protesters as they make their way through the downtown corridor.

5 Bush Protestors Charged With Assaulting Officer
GREENSBORO, NC — Five protestors attending an anti-Bush rally in Greensboro on Tuesday night assaulted a plain-clothes officer trying to take their picture, according to police.

Greensboro police described the following version of events, according to a press release:

As officers monitored a group of 130 protestors on Elm Street, a small portion of that crowd moved away, proceeding east on Lewis Street.

Several in the smaller group then assaulted a plain-clothes officer as he tried to photograph them, police said.

Uniformed officers then responded to that area.

Kenneth Wayne Harris, 24, of 621 Fairmont St., was charged with assault on a government official, public disturbance and carrying a concealed weapon. Harris was released on a $500 bond, a Guilford County jail employee said this morning.

Zachary Harrell Jones, 21, of 902 W. Market St., and Andrew James O'Hara, 26, of 1312 W. Market St., were charged with assault on a government official, public disturbance and delay and obstruct. They were each released on a $500 bond.

George Lawrence Saba, 22, of 621 Fairmont St., was charged with assault on a government official and public disturbance. Saba was released on a $500 bond.

Kyle Daniel Whisenant, 22, of 2627 Walker Ave., was charged with assault on a government official, public disturbance, carrying a concealed weapon and delay and obstruct. Whisenant was released on a $1,000 bond.

Erik Lee Stephens, 20, of 311 S. Mendenhall, and Marissa Reneee Csanvi, 22, of 1312 W. Market St., were charged with public disturbance.

The rally was one of dozens held across the nation on the night President Bush delivered his annual address before Congress.

The events were organized by a group called World Can't Wait, which aims to "Drive out the Bush regime." The group is organizing a protest this weekend in Washington.

Troops Magnet On School Bus Causes Fight With Teacher, Driver
DELAWARE, Ohio -- Two adults and one magnet led to a political confrontation at a Delaware City school, according to The Delaware Gazette.

Amy Runyan said she proudly displayed a "support our troops" magnet on her school bus, but last December, a teacher took it off and destroyed it.

The teacher was disciplined, but bus drivers were also reminded that Ohio law only allows state safety stickers on buses.

Now, Runyan has filed a complaint with police.

"All I want is my ribbon bought and an apology," Runyan said.

The teacher involved in the situation declined to comment.

The Delaware City Prosecutor said the matter is under investigation, but no charges have been filed.

I was in Texas last Christmas, and a lot local cop cars and State Patrol cruisers were flying those ribbons. I'm guessing the teachers, etc. leave them alone down there, heh.

The libs who gripe about those ribbons don't understand something. Most of the folks flying ribbons have a son, daughter, father, mother or other relative serving in the military, and those ribbons are kind of a good luck charm. Kind of like carrying a picture of the one you love. And, when you see a car with let's say, three ribbons in a row, that usually means they have three family members serving.

Vandals Damage 3 N.C. Military Recruiting Centers
Vandals damaged three military recruiting centers in the Triangle this week in what appeared to be a war protest.

Authorities said someone spray-painted windows at two Durham centers and hurled a rock through the window at a center in Raleigh on Tuesday night. The vandals also defaced doors and sidewalks at the locations.

The incidents were discovered on Wednesday morning when employees arrived for work, officials said.

An e-mail message sent to media outlets Wednesday called the actions a protest against U.S. involvement in Iraq.

"The poverty and exploitation of the economy at home fuels the brutality of occupation abroad, overseen by bosses and politicians indifferent to the suffering and havoc wreaked upon all sides," the e- mail message said. "From Iraq to North Carolina, resistance will continue until the system of war and exploitation that endangers us all is dismantled."

The return address of the e-mail message indicated that it came from Adrian Anderson. Requests for an interview by The News & Observer of Raleigh did not get a response.

No arrests had been made as of late Wednesday.

National Guard spokesman Capt. Matt Handley noted the irony of vandalism at the Guard center in Raleigh while the military is protecting the right to free speech.

"That's why we have a military, to uphold the Constitution," Handley said.

Santa Cruz Military Recruiters, Confronted By Crowd, Leave Campus Job Fair
Four military recruiters hastily fled a job fair Tuesday morning at UC Santa Cruz after a raucous crowd of student protesters blocked an entrance to the building where the Army and National Guard had set up information tables.

Members of Students Against War, who organized the counter-recruiting protest, loudly chanted "Don't come back. Don't come back" as the recruiters left the hilltop campus, escorted by several university police officers.

"The situation had degraded to the point where there was a possibility of injury to either a student or law enforcement officer. We certainly didn't want that to happen,'' said Capt. Will Griffin, one of the Army recruiters.

University officials had been aware for weeks that Students Against War planned a protest to prevent military personnel from participating in the school's biannual job fair held for students.

The student organization has become a bit of a cause celebre of the national anti-war movement ever since it was discovered that the group's protest of the same job fair last April landed it in a Pentagon surveillance file, which listed the protest as a "credible threat" to military facilities or personnel.

Universities that receive federal funds are required to allow military recruiters on campus. But campus officials had worried that Tuesday's protest would get out of hand as it had last April, when Students Against War protesters surrounded the table where military personnel sat, and hundreds of other demonstrators engaged in an angry protest outside. Some of the recruiters reported that their tires had been slashed and one employee at the career center was injured.

David Kliger, campus provost and executive vice chancellor, said the school was most concerned Tuesday about safety issues, but also wanted to preserve access to the recruiters for students who wanted to speak with them, while still allowing protesting students their right to free speech.

Kliger said officials had tried to engage the anti-war student group in discussions in the weeks leading up to the fair. But when talks broke down, officials began privately hoping for rain and brought in extra police.

The rain probably accounted for a decidedly smaller turnout -- about 100 students compared with about 300 a year earlier.

Still, the Army's Griffin said he sensed that some of the students were "looking for action" and decided to pack up their table before things got out of hand and someone got injured.

Students Against War members said they were pleased that their counter-recruiting effort forced the military personnel off campus, at least for the time being.

"We're saying it's not OK to recruit on high school campuses, it's not OK to recruit on university campuses,'' Marla Zubel, a UC Santa Cruz senior and member of Students Against War, said. "In order to stop the war, you have to make it more difficult to wage war."

But at least one student, Cody James, said he was disappointed that he couldn't get in to speak with the military personnel.

"It's frustrating,'' said James, a senior majoring in politics. "I'm not a Republican. I'm not a conservative. I don't support the war. It's about finding a career."

    'Peace' Gathering Turns Violent
Forest Service Abandons Checkpoint After Incident With Rainbow Group

The Rainbow Family peace gathering turned hostile Tuesday when a group of attendees began hurling rocks and sticks at law enforcement officers, U.S. Forest Service officials said.

The incident forced the officers to abandon a checkpoint they had established near the entrance to the Rainbow gathering campsite in North Routt County, Forest Service spokeswoman Diann Ritschard said. Officers had not returned to the checkpoint as of Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at about 11 a.m. and involved Forest Service officers who were manning the checkpoint set up to issue citations to anyone attempting to enter the gathering. Citations were being issued because Rainbow Family members had not signed a free Forest Service special-use permit, which is required for gatherings of 75 or more people.

Before the Tuesday morning incident, Forest Service officials were blocking people from entering the gathering and telling them to "turn around," Forest Service spokeswoman Denise Ottaviano said.

Officials said a group of about 100 people -- some of whom already were inside the gathering area -- participated in the incident. Other participants included people waiting outside the checkpoint who were told they could not enter the gathering, Ritschard said.

No arrests were made, and the officers left the scene because they did not want to escalate the situation, Ritschard said. No officers were injured.

"This incident will be investigated, and we're not exactly sure what course of action will be taken," Ritschard said. "The Forest Service is deciding what action to take."

In addition to Forest Service law enforcement officers, a Routt County Sheriff's Office deputy also was at the checkpoint at the time of the incident, Ritschard said.

"The Forest Service is very serious about the safety of our officers and cooperators," Ritschard said.

Also Tuesday, an incomplete special-use permit application was submitted to the Forest Service, Ritschard said. She said the application contained profanity where the applicant was supposed to write the location of the gathering. The application can't be accepted as submitted, Ritschard said.

Between 60 and 70 illegal gathering citations had been issued to Rainbow gathering attendees as of Tuesday morning. As many as 20,000 people are expected to attend the official peace gathering from July 1 to 7. About 500 people already have arrived.

Citations will be issued to people who use the closed trails or ignore other regulations, including:

    - Public nudity

    - Camping within 150 feet of any running stream or body of water

    - Placing kitchen facilities, food preparation areas, gray water pits or slit trenches within 300 feet of any running stream or body of water

    - Placing kitchen facilities, food preparation areas, gray water pits or slit trenches within 150 feet of any open road

    - Cutting any standing trees in the area described as: north of Forest Road 505, west of Forest Road 498, south of the private property in Big Red Park and east of Forest Road 500.

Also, about 15 miles of National Forest system motorized trails (numbers 1204 and 1199) near the Rainbow gathering have been closed. Ritschard said the trails were closed to keep the public away from the gathering.

"Most people would enjoy (trails) more at a place that is less congested," Ritschard said.

Idaho State Senator's Sons Arrested, Cited In Flag Damage Incident
The adult sons of an Idaho state senator are in hot water with authorities in Idaho's capital city after two American flags dedicated to soldiers killed in Iraq were vandalized.

Twenty-four-year-old Michael Burkett was arrested and 22-year-old Thomas Burkett was cited for allegedly damaging flags and flagpoles on the grounds of the Idaho Capitol building this morning.

Police say Michael Burkett also resisted and obstructed officers.

Boise Police say one flag pole had been bent so the flag was lying on the ground, the other had been pulled from the ground.

Their father is Boise Senator Mike Burkett, a Democrat facing Republican Charles Seldon in Tuesday's election.

Senator Burkett says he thinks his sons are innocent, while the boys' mother, Sharon Burkett, says the entire event was a "misunderstanding."

    Tancredo protesters turn violent
    By Anne Mulkern
    Denver Post Staff Writer
Article Last Updated:12/01/2006 12:45:23 PM MST

Protestors at a Michigan law school turned violent Thursday as they attempted to stop a speech by Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Littleton. (Post)

Violence erupted at a Michigan law school Thursday when protestors tried to block a speech by Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo.

Police were called after protestors pulled a fire alarm prior to the speech on immigration policies. There were at least three violent incidents with protestors targeting student backers of the event, Tancredo, R-Littleton, said today.

"One was spit on, one was kicked, and one was punched," Tancredo said in an e-mail. "Tires were also slashed."

Michigan State University College Republicans and Young Americans for Freedom sponsored the event.

Tancredo went to Michigan State University College of Law as part of a visit to the state to talk about immigration. He leads the group that opposes legal status for illegal immigrants.

Protestors interrupted the speech with loud shouting.

College newspaper The State News reported that protesters carried signs reading "Ignorant Racist" outside the room where the speech was held.

They were not allowed in with the signs, the paper said. It also reported that about 40 people attended the speech.

Tancredo said in the email that protestors organized on the Internet social networking site Facebook.

"They declared ahead of time on facebook that they would not allow me to speak," Tancredo said in the e-mail.
Tancredo also is meeting with the Republican state party chair, members of the state legislature, and is speaking at a fundraiser for a Republican women's group, Tancredo spokesman Carlos Espinosa said.

    Protesters crash immigration event

Criminal justice sophomore Kyle Morris, left, debates with first-year law student Charles Skinner on Thursday night outside the MSU College of Law building. A fire alarm was pulled before Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., was scheduled to speak.
A campus discussion about illegal immigration turned violent Thursday evening, when protesters clashed with the MSU College Republicans and Young Americans for Freedom, who sponsored the event.

Kyle Bristow, chairman of the Young Americans for Freedom, or YAF, said he was kicked and spat upon by some of the protesters when he was outside the MSU College of Law, where the discussion was being held.

"It saddens me that my fellow Spartans would display this type of behavior," he said. "They are racist. It's sad we need police to come to control these radical leftists."

Unable to identify the people who assaulted him, Bristow said he wasn't planning to file a police report.

MSU police were dispatched to the event after an employee of the law college called the department, MSU police Sgt. Brian McDaniel said.

"About 10 to 20 protesters disrupted the event," he said. "We believe they were responsible for pulling the fire alarm."

Protesters said they came to show their opposition to controversial Republican congressman Tom Tancredo, of Colorado, who spoke at the event. Before Tancredo arrived and while the event was being set up, protesters gathered on the fourth floor of the law college with signs that read "Ignorant Racist."

Someone in the building set off a fire alarm twice throughout the evening. After the first alarm was pulled, a few hundred people were evacuated from the building. The person or persons responsible for pulling the alarm could face a misdemeanor or felony charge if caught, McDaniel said.
Randy McPherson, whose sign read "Where's the wall to keep you out?" came to protest when he heard that the congressman would be speaking.
"God works in mysterious ways," said McPherson, a food science and premedical junior, after the second fire alarm was pulled. "(Tancredo) shouldn't be here."

Some protesters weren't allowed inside the discussion room because they had signs, which aren't allowed in the law college. The people who attended to oppose the event said they came to represent themselves — not the minority campus groups with which they are affiliated.

Another student who came to protest the event said she wanted to make sure it was known that Tancredo is racist.

"We were here to protest the whole event," said Claudia Gonzalez, an interdisciplinary studies in social science and community relations senior. "It got heated and there was a lot of disagreement and argument. This is
    a very big issue."

While waiting for the discussion to start, accounting graduate student Matt Ledesma said he witnessed someone being pulled out of the discussion area for spitting on someone.

"They were being disruptive," he said. "Someone pulled the fire alarm, which got us all out here."

After everyone was allowed back into the law college, Tancredo addressed a crowd of more than 40 people, who clapped and booed when he began speaking.

His speech focused on illegal immigration in the United States and emphasized looking at the issue with a clear head.

"Look, you can't get emotional," Tancredo said during his speech. "Let's just talk about the policy."

He also stressed the importance of a single national language, which he believes should be English, but added he supports people who are bilingual.

"I think diversity is a great thing," he said. "But it becomes a negative thing when it's the only thing."

A 10-minute question-and-answer session was held at the end of the event. Students wrote their questions on note cards, and MSU College Republicans chairman Jeff Wiggins asked a few of the questions. Tancredo left shortly after he spoke, ignoring many of the questions.

Wiggins, who helped arrange the event, said he was surprised at the protesters' reaction.

"(Tancredo) was not in the building when this went on," he said. "We were in here setting up. We tried to tell them signs are not allowed in the law college."
Jose Villagran, a interdisciplinary studies in social science senior, asked "Why have you been cited for hiring undocumented workers for personal construction?" His question was not asked by Wiggins, who did not pose controversial questions.

    Where’s the Tolerance?
The Tennessee Center for Policy Research (TCPR) recently generated headlines when it announced that former Vice President Al Gore’s Nashville estate “devoured nearly 221,000 kilowatt-hours” of electricity in 2006, “more than 20 times the national average.” This free-market think tank’s phones lit up when it analyzed Nashville Electric Service’s public records and identified an inconvenient gap between Gore’s conservationism and his energy consumption. TCPR’s one-page press release was greeted with enough megawatts of hatred to power the South.

“I was accused several times of being a ‘stupid, redneck bitch,’” recalls TCPR’s vice president Nicole Williams, who fielded numerous calls. “I repeatedly was called a ‘whore’ and asked ‘Whose whore are you?’ for three days straight, almost as if those were talking points… I was shocked by these sexist insults — basically attacking my gender.”

The calls continued beyond Williams’s Nashville office.

“I had to change my home number and get an unlisted number,” Williams tells me. “I got about 10 death threats by phone that made an impression on me. I got the ‘I’m gonna get you’-type threats more than 100 times…I was worried that I would get shot walking to my car.” Williams discovered her obsolete address posted online. “If they could find my old home address, it would not be so hard to find a current one.”

Gore’s defenders also spewed venomous e-mails. They sent TCPR nearly 3,000 Gore-related messages that exhibited the very bigotry the Left routinely denounces. Warning: These offensive, often-vulgar, and occasionally unschooled comments reveal the vitriol behind much of today’s “progressive” rhetoric.

Many e-mails displayed Dixiephobia — an intense disdain for the south and southerners.

After TCPR President Drew Johnson discussed his story on cable news, Kevin Lafferty objected: “Johnson said Gore’s home has gas lamps lining his driveway, a heated pool and an electric gate — all of which would be easy to do without. Well sure, that’s easy enough for you to say when you live in a frickin mobile home in Tennessee, eh Johnson?”

“F**k you, and for that matter, f**k Tennessee,” wrote Thomas Brown. “I’ll never go there again.”

“Why don’t you all go back to shooting one another across the hollows instead of trying to make people think anyone in Tennessee has an ounce of intelligence?” Roger Miller insisted. “Or better yet, get your snaggle tooth grins capped and learn to read and write…Someone who’s traveled the world here, and never ever wants to even fly across your state again.”

“W.T.F. difference would it make if he was [sic] using 1000 times more energy than the average household if it came from clean energy?” Thomas Grinnell wondered. “Don’t think about that too much. It will give your southern mullet a headache.”

“You really should concentrate on what Southerners do best,” D. Hunter advised. “Sodomizing and impregnating little children!”

“You are the most despicable and pathetic types of people of all time,” Christopher LaBarge declared. “I hope you all die slowly and have your hearts and brains trampled to pieces you small-minded, ignorant, backwoods ideologues.”

    “GO-F—K-YOURSELVES! GO-F—K-YOURSELVES! GO-F**K-YOURSELVES! GO-F**K-YOURSELVES!”

“Well it’s like I’ve always said, ‘we should have flattened the South when we had the chance!” wrote Mount Laurel, New Jersey’s Robert Dodelin. “If ever you confederates [sic] want to leave the Union please do. We Nothen [sic] states would love to stop having to subsidize you with our tax dollars.”

    This anti-southernism mystifies TCPR’s Johnson.

“Some people must believe the Mason-Dixon Line runs between our office and Gore’s mansion,” Johnson says. “No one would call Gore a redneck, but when we uncovered his hypocritical energy use, it somehow made me a sister-dating hillbilly. That’s quite amusing, since Gore and I live in Nashville, less than five miles apart.”

Some e-mails, like Benjamin Greuel’s, reflected anti-religious bias: “Go f**k yourselves you neo con, non-secular, bible thumpin, anti-science dumb f**k pricks.” Similarly, Anthony Black wrote:

You bunch of stupid hick red-necks. I am sure you are quite religious, yet you have no problem destroying His creation with pollution; and, rather than addressing that, you cast dispersions [sic] on Al Gore’s home energy use. Absurd.

Seriously, find one of those nice Tennessee hardwoods, get a nice stick from it, and stick it up your white-bread ignorant a**.

Have a nice day, you ignorant red-neck.

“How about you have a do [sic] humanity a favor and have a stroke,” Russ Smith recommended. “You silly metrosexual twit, need some more hi-lites in your hair?”

Another gay-hater wrote: “You guys are the faggiest fags I’ve ever come across. How do you get any work done, what with all the c**k sucking and such?”

“Keep licking Bush and Cheney’s privates,” Burton Ogle suggested. “Your time is up and we’re moving you’re a**es out.”

Two e-mails feature chillingly violent imagery.

“You people are such slime,” T. J. Williams noted. “You are a total waste of skin and air. Help the environment and jump off a cliff.”

Bob Beaver urged: “Find a hole and stick a knife in it.”

Such anti-intellectual intimidation reflects the high-octane hate that fuels so much Leftist discourse. Rather than simply argue that Johnson, Williams, and their colleagues are misguided or misinformed about global warming, these bullies call them barefoot, same-sex-loving, Winchester-wielding whores, and evangel-yokels. Remember this whenever liberals crow about diversity, tolerance, and open-mindedness.

LOL! I remember ol' Porky... Good times... Good times...

    More Liberal Tolerance and Compassion:

Minivan's Rude Introduction To Critical Smash
It was supposed to be a birthday night out for the kids in San Francisco, but instead turned into a Critical Mass horror show -- complete with a pummeled car, a smashed rear window and little children screaming in terror.

The spontaneous Critical Mass bike rides, in which thousands of free-spirited cyclists roam the city, have been a fixture on the last Friday night of the month since the early 1990s. But even bike-weary cops, who have seen their share of traffic disturbances and minor skirmishes, weren't prepared for what happened during the latest exercise of pedal power.

    Here's the story:

Susan Ferrando, her husband, their two children and three preteens had come to San Francisco from Redwood City to celebrate the birthday of Ferrando's 11-year-old daughter. They went to Japantown, where they enjoyed shopping and taking in the blooming cherry blossoms.

Things took a turn for the worse at about 9 p.m., when the family was leaving Japantown -- just as the party of about 3,000 bikers was winding down its monthly red-lights-be-damned ride through the city.

Suddenly, Ferrando said, her car was surrounded by hundreds of cyclists.

Not being from San Francisco, Ferrando thought she might have inadvertently crossed paths with a bicycle race and couldn't figure out why the police, who she had just passed, hadn't warned her.

Confusion, however, quickly turned to terror, she said, when the swarming cyclists began wildly circling around and then running into the sides of her Toyota van.

Filled with panic, Ferrando said, she started inching forward until coming to a stop at Post and Gough streets, where she was surrounded by bikers on all sides.

A biker in front blocked her as another biker began pounding on the windshield. Another was pounding on her window. Another pounded the other side.

"It seemed like they were using their bikes as weapons,'' Ferrando said. One of the bikers then threw his bike -- shattering the rear window and terrifying the young girls inside.

All the while, Ferrando was screaming, "There are children in this car! There are children in this car!"

She had the presence of mind to dial 911 on her cell phone -- and within minutes, the squad of motorcycle cops who were assigned to keep an eye on the ride descended on the scene.

The cyclists were loudly demanding that Ferrando be arrested for hit and run.

According to police, Ferrando had allegedly tapped one of the cyclists' tires.

When the alleged bicycle victim was approached, however, he said he wasn't hurt. He also refused to give his name or any other information.

Then, after a few swear words, the alleged victim took off on his bike while the rest of the crowd continued to yell at both the cops and the van.

Sgt. Ed Callejas -- the lead cop on the scene and a veteran of Critical Mass rides since their inception -- said he'd never seen anything like it before.

"I've seen the bikes swarm cars, and scratch them as they go by. I've seen guys get out of their cars and start fighting with the bikers, but if you had seen the faces on those little girls in tears,'' Callejas said. "All I could do was apologize for what they had been through."

The sergeant suggested that Ferrando write a letter to the mayor.

Estimated damage to the car: $5,300.

For Callejas and other cops assigned to the bike ride, Critical Mass has long been a study in contradictions.

For starters, San Francisco is a "green" city, and bike riding is about as green as you can get -- yet residents and commuters complain endlessly about getting trapped in the rides.

The city tries to ignore the unplanned rides, but there are always cops on hand to monitor the gatherings, even though any kind of traffic planning is impossible because no route is announced.

And even though the rides are held every month, Critical Mass has no organized leadership -- so no one can be held accountable for the group's actions.

In 1997, then-Mayor Willie Brown tried to control the rides. The result was anarchy and mass arrests.

Since then, the rides have shrunk in size. The city's generally hands-off attitude leaves cops as little more than bystanders.

"We sit there and they just go right through the red lights,'' Sgt. Callejas said. "What else can we do? Arrest one rider while 500 keep going?

"The only way to control this is through a massive effort by police and the Sheriff's Department,'' he said.

As for reaction from City Hall, Mayor Gavin Newsom said such acts of violence -- if true -- "only serve to undermine the worthwhile message of Critical Mass, which is to raise the awareness of bike transportation issues."

The mayor also said that -- if the charges are grounded -- he expected the attackers to be "punished to the greatest extent of the law."

    Riiight.
I would have run those assholes right over!

How the Left abuses Amazon.com to silence conservatives

    (Originally written March 29, 2006.)
I like to read, and I like to write. I have all my adult life, usually non-fiction, preferrably about history, economics, or history. That's why I wrote libertarian columns for the college paper (The Pitt News) when I was in grad school, and, today, I write reviews for Amazon.com.

Over Thanksgiving weekend 2005, I wrote a review of Cindy Sheehan's so-called "book" (well, it does have a cover, paper with words on it, and binding), entitled Not One More Mother's Child. Within two days, other Amazon.com readers voted my review the "most helpful", with nearly ninety votes, and only a few had voted the other way. But after Cindy's big rally in Crawford, Texas, my review was mysteriously yanked.

    Here's the review:

"Stalk a movie star, you go to jail; stalk the President, and you become a media sensation. Such is the mainstream media's clout -- and its hypocrisy.

"Cindy Sheehan and her ilk are also ignorant of history. In 216BCE, at the Battle of Cannae, the Romans lost 50,000 soldiers to Hannibal and his army from Carthage, whom the Romans had outnumbered. This is roughly the number of soldiers we lost in the entire Vietnam war; despite losing that many men in one day, Rome didn't give up. They refused to surrender because no one in Rome shared Cindy Sheehan's philosophy. Those who did back then lived in Carthage; that's why we learned about the Roman Empire, and not the Carthagenian, when we went to school.

"This silly, illogical rant is a testament to the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of the 'peace' movement. Its release gives aid & comfort to our enemies. So does buying it, and so does giving it five stars."

(Amazon.com lets customers rate books with one to five stars; I gave it one.)

Here's how my review got yanked: Leftists, who'd either been to Cindy's Thanksgiving weekend rally or heard about it on mainstream news or the Internet, went to Amazon.com and looked for the book's negative reviews. Upon finding them, they would not only vote the reviews "unhelpful" but also report them as "inappropriate." And when a review gets enough "inappropriate" votes, Amazon.com removes the review. (Fortunately, I had saved mine as a text file, so I put it back up. It was removed again, and I reposted it. It's still up, as of today, March 29, 2006.) The Cindyphiles also wrote five-star reviews of their own, most of which quickly received hundreds of "helpful" votes.

One of these favorable reviews, from a guy using the name "Kevin Schmidt" (which he claims is his real name), urged Amazon.com customers to join in:

"When We Bravely Stand Up, The Neocons Cower And Stand Down!

"I previously had posted a comment that was in essence a rebuttal to one particular review that was full of Neocon propaganda, smears and lies about Cindy Sheehan.

"Since then, most of the offending reviews have been removed. So if any review offends you, don't just stew in your own anger, take action and complain about it.

"Cindy Sheehan is right! You can stand up to the neocon bullies and win! One person can make a difference, no matter how unremarkably ordinary they may be. Thanks for the inspiration Cindy!

"Now about our country, WE WANT IT BACK!!!"

Leftists have also done the reverse to conservative authors' books. The most egregious example is what they did to Kate O'Beirne's latest book, Women Who Make the World Worse. In mid-January of 2006, Mrs. O'Beirne was interviewed on several talk shows about the book (I caught the ones on Fox and EWTN). I went to a local bookstore, skimmed it, liked it, and wrote a five-star review on Amazon.com on January 12, 2006. Thanks to a January 11th "call to arms" about the book on democraticunderground.org (see the link below), it took less than twenty four hours for my review to get over two hundred "not helpful" votes. On January 11, the leftwing blog complained about the sizeable majority of the reviews (16 of 26) were favorable and how "and they have the most often and highest rated reviews. . . (t)hese lickspittle reviews have very obviously been Freeped" (a reference to the patriotic website Free Republic). By January 13, it was a different story: 121 of 160 reviews were one-star, and most of the original five-star reviews were gone (though many have been re-posted, and Amazon has since removed the bulk of the more idiotic one-star reviews).

One of the one-star reviews even appeared twice, posted under two different names: "Gen. JC Christian, Patriot" (dated January 10) and "Kenevan C. Mcconnan" (dated January 12; the "JC Christian" version received over 5,300 "helpful" votes, which is so high I can't imagine it happening without a campaign on leftwing blogs, duplicate votes, or both). Both versions are still up today (March 29, 2006).

The answer to this is threefold:

    1) When reviewing a book for Amazon.com, save it as a text file; you may have to repost it if enough leftists don't like it.

    2) Conservatives and other non-leftists should complain to Amazon.com. This is no time to turn down the heat!

    3) They should also go to Amazon.com and turn in the more idiotic reviews from leftists as "inappropriate."

After all, one good burn deserves another.

Liberal tolerance and compassion is nonexistant, a null set. Liberal tolerance and liberal compassion are reality disconnects, signifying nothing, except someone else's blood, toil, tears, and sweat. (To paraphrase the greatest statesman of all time, Sir Winston Spencer Churchill )

Whenever liberals want to help me, I want to find a foxhole, hide, and wait for their help to end or go away... As far as the government is concerned, up here in Maine, there's a wonderful bumper sticker that says, "Trust the government? Sure, ask any Indian." Liberalism is bad enough- but have it as the guiding light for any governing body? It's like walking in a tunnel, and a bright light is coming toward you...

Default Re: Liberal Tolerance and Compassion

I sometimes think our biggest problem is "distrust of the government". Don't get me wrong, I don't like the IRS, and sure as hell don't like it when Liberals get their way and "help" us.

Right now there is a package going through Congress... if it gets signed into law, it will be the absolute largest tax increase in history. I paid a LOT in taxes this year. If they pass this crap, it will nearly double what I pay, and I will be losing a lot of deductions I can take now.

So.... instead of distrusting the government, more people should be writing their Congress Critters. It is only through writing them that we make our wishes known.

Yes, many Reps do their own thing, vote their own way, and ignore their constituents. But, if they do this often enough and it goes against the wishes of the people, the people will kick them out of office. That's the way it works.

So, why are people like Reid, Kennedy, Pelosi, Feingold and a few others still in office after all these years? Easy, the local populations continue to vote for them because they are just as brainwashed, or leftist as are those aforementioned names.

Essentially, there has been an "education process" in place to teach children to believe what the Left wants them to believe, thus, lies are told over and over until they become "truth" for those children who then grow up to be voting adults.

This is why the left SOOOOOOOO much doesn't want private schools. This is why they don't want tax vouchers for schools. This is why they wish to ban guns. It's all about control folks, all of it.

If the normal people in the United States do not regain control of classrooms, and campuses, elementary schools and gun laws, then there is going to be a time when a new Civil War will come to this country.

I hope that day never happens, and I'm doing my part to prevent it, but after V-tech, it's anyone's guess where the gun law issue is going to go in the next few months.

And, it is anyone's guess where the laws about guns on campus will go as well.

The second they "ban" weapons on campus, I will stop going to college, and I will demand all my money back for the current semester. I will file a lawsuit against them if they do it here, against the school, against the state, county and whomever is involved in it. So, that's where I see this headed.

I don't WANT some Liberal trying to "help" me. Of course, I'm a white male, over fourty, so they wouldn't help me anyway, I'm one of the groups that are allowed to be discriminated against. That means, I stand up for myself and kick people in the kneecaps and go to jail for it if I have to... so the "war" has already begun in a way.

We will see where Liberals go with their "compassion"...

I see idiots all around me, and they don't know they are idiots.

(War is bad. Guns are bad. It's ok to abort babies. driving a car, using gas and oil are bad, unless you're Algore...or some rich, loudmouthed Rosie O, Travolta or any number of other stars, or congresspeople).`

    Creating Activists At Ed School

    By John Leo

In 1997, the National Association of Social Work (NASW) altered its ethics code, ruling that all social workers must promote social justice "from local to global level." This call for mandatory advocacy raised the question: what kind of political action did the highly liberal field of social work have in mind?

The answer wasn't long in coming. The Council on Social Work Education, the national accreditor of social work education programs, says candidates must fight "oppression," and sees American society as pervaded by the "global interconnections of oppression." Now aspiring social workers must commit themselves, usually in writing, to a culturally left agenda, often including diversity programs, state-sponsored redistribution of income, and a readiness to combat heterosexism, ableism, and classism.

This was all too much for the National Association of Scholars. The NAS has just released a six-month study of social work education, examining the ten largest programs at public universities for which information was available.

The report, "The Scandal of Social Work," says these programs "have lost sight of the difference between instruction and indoctrination to a scandalous extent. They have, for the most part, adopted an official ideological line, closing off debate on many questions that serious students of public policy would admit to be open to the play of contending viewpoints."

Nine of the ten programs, the NAS reports, require students to accept the ideology-saturated NASW code of ethics to get a degree in social work. The University of Central Florida says students "must comply" with the code of ethics if they wish to remain in school. Failure to accept the code constitutes "academic misconduct" in the University of Michigan program and "can result in disciplinary action" at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.

"Diversity/multiculturalism" and "oppression" were among the most common themes in coursework. The report notes, "Although it's certainly true that racism has been oppressive in American history, it seems question-begging to assume that 'oppression' is a leading cause of poverty in the modern U.S. And it is far from clear that the only pathway to a non-racist or egalitarian society passes through the gateway or multiculturalism."

The NAS called on government agencies at the federal, state and local level "to cease requiring that social workers hold degrees from CSWE accredited programs in order to be hired." By associating themselves with the ideological tests in the CSWE standards and NASW code, "such agencies violate constitutionally protected freedoms of speech and religious conscience."

At schools of education, the buzzword "dispositions" carries the message of politicized advocacy. Ed schools once required aspiring teachers to display only competence and knowledge. Then the amorphous criterion of "dispositions" appeared, referring vaguely to habits and attitudes that teachers must have. The National Council for Accreditation of Teachers of English (NCATE) said education departments could "include some measure of a candidate's commitment to social justice"—in effect ruling that public school teachers could be evaluated on their perceptions of what social justice requires.

This opened a door to reject candidates on the basis of thoughts and beliefs. It also allowed ed schools to infer bad character from a political stance that the schools opposed. At Washington State University, where the college of education tried to expel a conservative student, the dean was asked whether Justice Antonin Scalia could pass a dispositions test at her school. "I don't know how to answer that," she replied.

Interventions by free speech and religious liberties groups induced a few schools to back down in well-publicized cases of abuse. At Missouri State University's undergraduate social work program, Emily Brooker received a "C" after complaining that professor Frank Kauffman "routinely engaged in leftist diatribes." Kauffman instructed Brooker's class to write the state legislature urging legal approval of adoption by gays. She refused on religious and moral grounds. As a result, Brooker was brought up on very serious charges; to get her degree, she had to promise to abide by the NASW code. After graduation, she sued and won a settlement.

In an attention-getting article, Stanford education school professor William Damon wrote that ed schools "have been given unbounded power over what candidates may think and do, what they may believe and value." In what seemed to be an exercise in damage control, NCATE president Arthur Wise said he agreed with Damon that it is not acceptable for ed schools to assess social and political beliefs.

Still, the ideology behind disposition theory and social justice requirements is intact and strongly holds sway in the schools. It dovetails with the general attitude on campuses that promoting liberal advocacy in the classroom is legitimate and necessary. So long as government agencies collaborate with the social work programs and ed schools, reform will remain a long way off.
I'm taking America back. Step 1: I'm taking my kids out of the public re-education system. They will no longer have liberal bias and lies like this from bullying teachers when I expect them to be taught reading, writing, and arithmetic:

About time someone woke up to these idiots, and their stupid ascinine socialist activities. This is PRECISELY why people can't simple spank their kids in public these day, when they act out. It's OPPRESSION! (Well, when the kids act out and keep doing it when they are older, it's called GANGSTERISM)
