ATF Arrests 2 Mexican Nationals for Purchasing 12,750 Rounds of Ammunition
Laredo, Texas -- Special Agent in Charge J. Dewey Webb of the Houston Field Division, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), announced today that ATF special agents have arrested two Mexican men after they purchased 12,750 rounds of ammunition of assorted calibers from a federal firearms licensee in Laredo.

Carlos Alberto Osorio-Castrejon of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and Ramon Uresti- Careaga of Mexico City were arrested yesterday after ATF special agents observed them in a Laredo federal firearms licensee taking the ammunition out of the original packaging and placing it in unmarked cardboard boxes. The ammunition included .380, .38 super, 9mm and .45 calibers.

Both were charged with being aliens in possession of ammunition, a violation of the federal firearms laws. If convicted, the two could receive up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

"ATF will be vigorous in its enforcement of the federal firearms laws, particularly where international trafficking activity is involved," said ATF Laredo Resident Agent in Charge Elias Bazan.

ATF Laredo partners with the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other law enforcement agencies in Operation Gunrunner, a border interdiction initiative aimed at halting firearms trafficking between the United States and Mexico.
