Default Merry Christmas and Happy New Year TAA

    Dear Lord,

Until such time my wishes can be granted, please watch over and protect our troops. I ask that you give them the commitment and strength to pound our enemies back to the stone age.

And as always Lord, please grant me the strength to do what is right.

    Amen.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my friends at TAA.

(And if anyone is curious, I cut the above article out of the Stars and Stripes newspaper - IIRC it was 1990)

Thanks for the Christmas wishes, Backstop. Merry Christmas to all here at TAA, and yes, I do consider most people here close enough to me to be friends and some even as family. It sure looks like a Christmas card outside today here in Denver. With the windchill, it is subzero temperatures today. We are having a blizzard for a change. And it is heavy snow like I was used to in Michigan. Schools all over are closed, which is unusual around here. I think DIA is closed too. This is exactly how most people envision Colorado who have never been here. Bring your relatives in for the holiday by reindeer. Or just wait a couple of days for the sun to melt most of it. lol

Does anybody else have a favorite Christmas song this year? I've got one that it's hard for me not to get right up and dance and praise God to. And it's contagious. The kids get up and join me or turn it up to get me to join them. I've liked the older versions but this new one cranks up the emotion to just rejoice and joyously praise Him who's birthday we celebrate.

Mary's Boy Child/Oh My Lord Lyrics

Send Boney M. polyphonic ringtone to your cell phone

    Mary's Boy Child

Mary's boy child Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas Day.
And man will live for evermore, because of Christmas Day.

Long time ago in Bethlehem, so the Holy Bible said,
Mary's boy child Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas Day.

Hark, now hear the angels sing, a king was born today,
And man will live for evermore, because of Christmas Day.
Mary's boy child Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas Day.

While shepherds watch their flocks by night,
they see a bright new shining star,
they hear a choir sing a song, the music seemed to come from afar.

Hark, now hear the angels sing, a king was born today,
And man will live for evermore, because of Christmas Day.

For a moment the world was aglow, all the bells rang out
there were tears of joy and laughter, people shouted
"let everyone know, there is hope for all to find peace".

How Joseph and his wife Mary came to Bethlehem that night
they found no place to bear her child not a single room was in sight
And then they found a little nook in a stable all forlorn,
and in a manger cold and dark, Mary's little boy was born.

Hark, now hear the angels sing, a king was born today,
And man will live for evermore, because of Christmas Day.
Mary's boy child Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas Day.

For a moment the world was aglow, all the bells rang out
there were tears of joy and laughter, people shouted
"let everyone know, there is hope for all to find peace".

    Oh My Lord

    Oh my Lord
You sent your son to save us
    Oh my Lord
Your very self you gave us
    Oh my Lord
That sin may not enslave us
And love may reign once more

    Oh my Lord
when in the crib they found Him
    Oh my Lord
    A golden halo crowned Him
    Oh my Lord
    They gathered all around Him
To see him and adore (this day will live forever)

Oh my Lord (so praise the Lord)
they had begun to doubt you
Oh my Lord (He is the truth forever)
what did they know about you?
Oh my Lord (so praise the Lord)
but they were lost without You
they needed You so bad (His light is shining on us)

Oh my Lord (so praise the Lord)
    with the child's adoration
Oh my Lord (He is a personation)
    there came great jubilation
Oh my Lord (so praise the Lord)
    and full of admiration
they realized what they had (until the sun falls from the sky)

Oh my Lord (Oh praise the Lord)
You sent your son to save us
Oh my Lord (this day will live forever)
Your very self you gave us
Oh my Lord (so praise the Lord)...

One thing that was nice about Honduras was that it's all catholics.

They all say "Merry Christmas" without PC shame.

I wish that were true here.

    Anyway, from me, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

"And peace on earth, goodwill toward men."

This might belong on an exegetic prophecy in translation thread but perhaps I can get some comments here.

I like both translations, - peace on earth to men of good will- and the former. Which is correct?

WND's Farah, who I respect and multiply diatribe- he makes big boners- was humble enough to place an interesting article on a pastor (criticizing him) who will be addressing Christians worldwide, specifically on Christmas.

Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church and author of The Purpose-Driven Life, will be preaching to a global audience over Christmas thanks to Rupert Murdoch and the U.S. Defense Department.

    http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/.../151-53.0.html

Any thots on this dude? Sounds legit. God bless him for "at least he tried".

    Here's my Christmas message.

May God bless you with the luck of St John, who was exiled to Patmos, only because he emerged from boiling oil, healthier than ere before.

May St. Nick, also imprisoned and exiled, bless you with 3 worldy favors, on 6 Dec. to remind you to help others in need during the hard times to come, and commemorate his virtues of poverty, chastity and obedience which legend tells involved him in resurrections.

May the Virgin Mary show her motherly care, affection and correction, particularly on 8 Dec, recalling her innocent immaculate entry into this blessed world, thanks to her saintly parents, grandparents of Jesus, Joachim and Anne. Of course Jesus had other parents, such as the Holy Spirit, St. Joseph and God the Father.

9 Dec. and 12 Dec are also special dates for Advent, commemorating purported and truly the most authenticated, by history, miracles and science, visitation of the Virgin Mary to the Americas in the 16th century. (Virgin Of Guadalupe)

14 December recalls a fierce penitent and mystic (John of the Cross) also jailed and persecuted- author of the "Dark Night of the Soul". John's journey's are far above mine, as far as the heaven's from the earth, yet each has their dark night.

May God's grace reign in your hearts and should it be His holy will, may tin foil and bright colored lights comfort your earthly souls as well. Should the dark night prevail, may you find comfort in His light of grace, His pilgrim soul, born in poverty.

    God bless us everyone.
Dicken's Christmas Carol is a decent short read, as well as his synopsis of the life of Jesus which he wrote for his kids.

Hi Sami. Hugh Hewitt had Walt Harrah, a studio musician and vocalist on his radio show the other day. It might bless your heart to hear the history on some of the Christmas carols. I found the show educational and interesting. Your question about the "peace on earth, good will to men" is answered there as well. "I heard the bells on Christmas day" is the song that this is from. It's from 1864 by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. In St. Luke 2:14 is the original, by the way. "Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, good will toward men." http://www.townhall.com/TalkRadio/Sh...5-d126f5676f1c

Here’s my favorite song Aplomb - at least for today.

Although the weather here isn’t anywhere near as bad as you folks are having, we shot an IDPA match today - it was raining and 45 degress - and MUD everywhere. HAHA!

And for some reason, this song was going through my head all day.

    Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

    Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
    had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.

    All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
    They never let poor Rudolph
    join in any reindeer games.

    Then one foggy Christmas Eve
    Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
    Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
    you'll go down in history!

    The Christmas Shoes

It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin' to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing 'round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes

His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say

    Chorus:
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here"
    He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes

So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out
I'll never forget the look on his face when he said
    Mama's gonna look so great

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

    Bridge:
    I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about

    Repeat Chorus

    Libertatem Prius!

What a tear-jerker. I thought you might prefer this funnier one, Rick (just leave out the 7th day smokes, I know you hate that):

    http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/so...hristmas.shtml

...On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me,
    A beer.

D: On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me,
    Two turtle-necks
    B: And a beer.

On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me,
    Three French toast
    D: Two turtle-necks
    B: And a beer.
D: There should be more there, eh?
    B: Where? Oh, go!

D: Fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me,
    Four pounds of back-bacon
    B: Three French toast
    D: Two turtle-necks
    B: And a beer.
D: ...in a tree. See, you need more.

B: Oh..fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me,
    Five golden tooks,
    D: Four pound of back-bacon
    B: Three French toast
    D: Two turtle necks
    B: And a beer...where?
D: (with Bob) In a tree.

B: OK, on the sixth...oo, go!
D: ..Christmas, my true love gave to me,
    C: Six...
    D: Six packs of two-four
    B & C: Five golden tooks
    C: Four...
    D: Four pounds of back-bacon
    C: Three...
    B: Three French toast
    C: Two...
    D: Two turtle-necks
    C: And a beeeeeeeeer...
B: And a beer (with Doug) in a tree. OK.

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me,
    Seven pack of smokes,
    C: Nice gift!
    D: Nice gift. Oh...six packs of two-four
    B & C: Five golden tooks.
    C: Four...
    D: Four pounds of back-bacon
    C: Three...
    B: Three French toast
    C: Two...
    D: Two turtle-necks
    C: And a beeeeeeeeer...
B: And a beer (with Doug) in a tree. Keep forgetting.
D: Whew! This should just be the "Two Days of Christmas"; it's too
    hard for
    us! Go, hoser.

B & D: On the eighth day of Christmas, may true love gave to me,
    D: Eight comic books
(Chorus repeats right behind them, though one behind)
    B & D: Seven packs of smokes
    Six pack of two-four
    B: Five...
C: (catches up) Five golden tooks
    Four pounds of back-bacon
    Three French toast
    Two turtle-necks
    ALL: And a beer...
    B & D: On my tree.
B: Yeah, that beer is empty. OK, day, um...
    C: TWELVE!
    B: Twelve!
D: Good day, and welcome to day twelve..
(Chorus starts up and Bob and Doug join in)
    ALL: Five golden tooks
    Four pounds of back-bacon,
    Three French toast
    Two turtle-necks
And a beer in a treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
D: Where'd you learn to do that?
    B: Um, albums.
D: So, like, that's our song. Merry Christmas...
    B: Merry Christmas!
    D: And good day!
B: Good day! Ha-happy New Year, too.
    D: Shhh!
B: OK, you know what you left out?
    D: What?
    B: Donuts!
    D: Oh, no!
B: I told you to get donuts. Either on the ninth day, or the tenth
    day or
the eleventh day, but I want donuts!
D: OK, the song's over! Merry Christmas, everybody!
B: ...or, on the twelfth day, you could've got me a DOZEN donuts...
D: So,..go out to the stores and get some presents!
B: You could've gone down, to, like, the good donut shops where you
    buy a
dozen, you get another one free, and then it'd be thirteen for the
    "Thirteen Days of Christmas"!
D: Next Christmas, you can get me a chain-saw!
    B: Take off!
    (As music fades
D: Boy, that song was a beauty. It...it moved me.
B: Yeah, I think it ranks up there with "Stairway to Heaven".
    D: What?

then there's the translated version of "Feliz Navidad...."
