IBM Targets UFOs, Ghosts, and Goblins With Search Tool

coondoggie writes "IBM wants to help you find out if UFOs are real. Well, sort of. With UFO sightings seemingly on the rise, Big Blue is teaming with The Anomalies Network to offer UFO Crawler, a new search engine specifically tuned to search for information about the paranormal, unexplained or just plain bizarre. The search tool employs IBM's OmniFind Yahoo! Edition enterprise search software and the UFO Crawler should help users precisely target and gather information from relevant sources, including thousands of documents and files collected in the vast Anomalies Network archive, as well as multiple global resources across the Web on topics such as such as ghosts, conspiracy theories and extraterrestrials."

    Awesome, Olav. Congratulations.

Other online sources are commenting on the rollout of ufocrawler.com and the work between IBM and Anomalies to make it happen.

Currently these following articles are online and later today we'll add the rest. Exciting stuff and I have tried the ufocrawler.com and been impressed with its better targeted results even for a simple query!

UFO Crawler: The Truth Is Out There & Searchable

IBM and Yahoo teamed up to bring to you UFOCrawler, a search engine that is about finding sources on "UFO Sightings, time travel, conspiracy theories and anomalies." For example, a search on area 51 returns 7,904 sources, unfortunately some of the results do not look all that great. It is important to note that all the other tabbed searches (i..e Web Images Video Audio Directory Local News) take you to Yahoo, the Enterprise tab takes you to UFOCrawler results. This is powered by IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition enterprise and brought to you by the Anomalies Network.

UFO Crawler Powered by IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition Searches for Flying Saucers, Ghosts and other Mysteries

SAN FRANCISCO, March 9, 2007 -- The Anomalies Network today unveiled the UFOCrawler, one of the first of a new breed of search engines specifically tuned to search for information about the paranormal and unexplained.

UFOCrawler (www.ufocrawler.com) was developed to make it easier to conduct advanced research and tap information and knowledge sources worldwide to form educated opinions about topics such as UFO Sightings, time travel, conspiracy theories and anomalies.

Powered by IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition enterprise search software, UFOCrawler helps users precisely target and gather information from relevant sources, including thousands of documents and files collected in the vast Anomalies Network archive, as well as multiple global resources across the Web on topics such as such as ghosts, conspiracy theories and extraterrestrials. Previously, using a conventional Web search engine, a search on a term such as Area 51, for example--would return thousands of irrelevant and inaccurate results.
UFOCrawler helps users more clearly define and target their search to a particular topic, for instance to search for information about an aurora sighted over Area 51. UFOCrawler is tuned to search for and deliver the specific information requested or refine an area of interest.

"Only through raw information can people form their own opinions about what is happening out there," said Olav Phillips, founder, the Anomalies Network. "The questions about the paranormal are some of the most fundamental questions of humanity. People can’t draw conclusions, make a decision or form an opinion based on a single sighting or event. UFOCrawler is designed to give users a more holistic view of all the information sources they need to decide for themselves."

In addition to launching UFOCrawler today, The Anomalies Network is also introducing numerous site enhancements to enable better collaboration among users as well as major performance enhancements to the site.

The site enhancements include all new content and features to enable more users to contribute, collaborate and dynamically share information based on their interests. A new user-driven search and RSS subscriptions as well as account access also enable users to customize and view only information of interest to them. The site is also undergoing major performance improvements including the deployment of the NetliOne Platform for global site caching powered by Netli, as well as further network improvements at their state-of-the-art datacenter hosted by Silicon Valley Web Hosting (http://www.svwh.net).

In existence for more than 10 years, the Anomalies Network is the world's largest online UFO and paranormal community with over a million pageviews per month. The site is designed to serve as a super archive to make the location of related information easier. Built almost entirely on open source software, the Anomalies Network uses the CentOS Linux distribution, Apache, Tomcat, MySQL and PHP in addition to IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition.

IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition is a no-cost, entry level enterprise search product with Web search services powered by Yahoo! that enables departments and businesses of all sizes to quickly and easily find, access and capitalize on information stored within organizations and across the Web.

IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition can be downloaded at http://omnifind.ibm.yahoo.com.

    About The Anomalies Network

The Anomalies Network (http://www.anomalies.net) is the world's largest online UFO/Paranormal Community. Is an indication of No genuine knowledge of such things; Or is an Indication that a certain idea or 'planned knowledge' is to be ' Seemingly Discovered' by the innocent. Does Not IBM's super computers already have the ability to discover any electrical data ?
I suppose the future alone will tell of any master minds.

    Seg,

    No such thing.
Olav has worked out an AWESOME micro search engine, and worked with OBM on this.

This isn't an indication of "innocence" lol

NO this is a VERY good thing for Olav Phillips and Anomalies.

I'm very PROUD of his accomplishments on this, and I hope it goes to big, big places for him. If nothing else, I hope ihe can end up selling Anomalies for BILLIONS like YouTube did. lol

I wish him ALL the best and I think we all should be

Thanks for clearing that up Rick. Then I really am surprised that an Technology giant like IBM wouldn't have knowledge of the super-natural or ET's. This Tends to discredit an area 51 theories in my mind. IBM has been a leading technology enterprise for many years and they don't have a clue? Good luck to Olav and Anomalies.

UFO Crawler: the new paranormal search engine

    http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/ar...ine-.asp/3572/

New search engines blossom on the internet almost every week, but the latest search engine to grace the web - UFO Crawler - simply stands out.

The Anomalies Network, in collaboration with IBM's OmniFind Yahoo! Edition, has just launched UFO Crawler, the new search tool which scours the web for information on ghosts, UFO sightings, classified files and any unexplained or paranormal experiences.

UFO Crawler combines thousands of documents from The Anomalies Network archive, which contains the world's largest online database of reported UFO sightings, mysteries and case studies - including abductions, UFO crashes worldwide or conspiracy theories.

The Anomalies Network was created as the S4 Database almost ten years ago, with the aim of becoming the largest online Paranormal Community - and it certainly seems they've achieved this goal. Olav Phillips, chief archivist and founder of The Anomalies Network, wanted to encourage the public to make their own minds about inexplicable phenomena by combining global information available on the web and thousands of unique archives from relevant sources.

With a staggering one million page views per month, almost 4,000 registered users, 240,000 posts on 15,000 different topics and a record one billion pages of archived material, the success of the Anomalies Network is truly remarkable.

When asked by bigmouthmedia how UFO Crawler was born, Olav Phillips explained:

"In this day and age we all use Google and, frankly, it is an excellent search engine on a mass scale; but finding specific information can be very difficult and requires fairly complex search queries. So we felt the right answer was to move to a microsearch model where we had a search engine specifically designed to house paranormal / UFO information."

Searching for the unknown is now easier than ever thanks to the integration of the Anomalies Network database and the free enterprise search software IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition - a clear competitor with Google's enterprise search, which is available from $2,000 upwards.

IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition was launched in December 2006. It's customized and simple to use; but more importantly, the software can be installed in less than three clicks. The tool supports more than 200 file types and 30 languages, with an indexing capability of half a million documents per server.

The arrival of UFO Crawler has received a warm welcome from the Ufology community and it promises to capture the attention of thousands of users.

In recent weeks, alleged UFO sightings appear to be on the increase, with events reported in Chicago's O'Hare Airport, the Metropolitan Phoenix area and last week's spaceship video footage shot from Burnley in the UK. UFO Crawler provides an outlet for the burgeoning number of searches made on extraterrestrial activity - and the fledgling search engine certainly looks set to cope with the existing demand for information.

UFO Crawler will undoubtedly fill a gap in the market for searches on UFOs and the paranormal. And whether you're passionate about mysteries, ghosts and extraterrestrial encounters, or are instead a sceptical individual, you're sure to love the extraterrestrial delights the site is bound to uncover from the depths of the interwebs!

Area-51 is a REAL parcel of land on Federal property.

Have a good look at it from high-altitude. If one looks carefully enough one might see an alien UFO speeding down the main Groom Dry Lake runway in preparation for take-off. ROTFLMAO.

What is NOT REAL is the association of this parcel of land, its buildings and multiple fixed-wing aircraft runways with little grey aliens and their alleged flying apparatus.

For anyone to claim that Area 51 has anything to do with aliens, or reverse-engineered alien saucer technology is an unfounded conspiracy.

In sum such an association is Horse Hooey.

Good luck to Olav and his crawler search engine.

However, I fail to see any topically related connection to this forum where we are supposed to be dealing with factual, real-world events related to the Axis of enemy nations allied against America and her allies.

By the way... why is it that since this Anomalies.Net chatter started there has not been a post from a regular member? Aside from Backstop, Monterrey Jack, Segestan and Myself All the rest of the recent posts are Admin or Moderator posts.

My guess would be that those other TAA members are NOT here on the TAA Forum for the paranormal and conspiracy nonsense resident at the Anomalies.Net Forum.

Food for thought boys and girls, food for thought.

Give to TAA what is TAA. Leave at Anomalies what is Anomalies.

    Sean,

This site grew out of Anomalies, plain and simple. YOU came here from Anomalies. YOU were on Anomalies as well. Don't forget where you're from.

For anyone to claim that Area 51 has anything to do with aliens, or reverse-engineered alien saucer technology is an unfounded conspiracy.
That's true. But then the same can be said about a lot of unfounded material that is posted on this site as well, now can't it?

We all know what Area 51 is... actually known as the Groom Lake Facility, in my circles. Well, SOME of us KNOW what it is, without a doubt. So, you don't really have to talk down to us like we're all a bunch of kids or something.

The FACT is, whether there are or AREN'T "aliens" visiting this planet, there IS without a doubt real life out there beyond our own planet. Having been an astronomer for 40 years and studying what's beyond the atmosphere, and what's IN the atmosphere in some cases has given me a real appreciation for the size of our world in comparison to space and all the other things out there.

But, you're right. There's no aliens at Area 51. There are, however human beings there doing what we do best in America... Research and Development, testing and proving. And people LOVE a mystery, but what people chose to believe about it is their own issue, and what people chose to disbelieve as well, is their issue. But when it comes to Anomalies, this site sprouted from Anomalies, and there ARE kooks over there. But, there are plenty of reasonable, responsible people as well including the admins here who visit the site so you really need to stop putting people down, or sites because they don't agree with you.

Olav has spent a lot of time and effort on collecting photos, videos and a lot of other data, some of which I defy anyone to prove fake or hoaxes. Much of it IS, but I've seen things that would scare most scientists because after they have examined it, have zero explanation for what is on a video tape or film. Olav should get recognition for this, regardless of what you, me or anyone else thinks.

Were it NOT for us, you, me, Ryan, Brian and a multitude of others, this site wouldn't be here, and neither would Anomalies have survived as long as it has. THAT, Sean is the plain, simple truth. I think you ought to be proud to have been a part of it, instead of relegating it to some corner somewhere.

But, that's just what I think.

    Rick,

I came here from the AN forums due to Ryan Ruck. The reason most of us came here is for the reason I noted above. NONE of that crap has anything to do with this forum - it was never the intent.

Your premise as to why I came here is entirely wrong and 100% OFF THE MARK. I did not come to this TAA Forum to discuss anomalous anything. Period. That crapoleum I left behind where it belongs at Anomalies.Net.

In fact, and to be specific, I depated Anomalies.Net came and here due to certain outlandish CONSPIRAcCY posts by Olav regarding blatant nonsense postings from known nutcase conspiracy websites (like Alex Jones) regarding CIA aircraft flights.

    Period.

I would hope that you might remember this fact as well. Those posts were abject BS Conspiracy nonsense - and they remain so to this minute.

I am not a UFO or Praranormal conspiracist and I never have been. I have seen an anomalous, indescribable object perfrom an indescribalbe action before my eyes.

However, I am not going to declare that the object is alien piloted or that the object was fron another world.

I am on record as stating that my opinion is that such things are unholy deceptions.

As of today and previously I am not proud of Anomalies.Net. It has no intrinsic value at all as it does not deal with reality in the rational or scientific aspects.

Furthermore, I know for a fact that the sum total of my posts on those various fAnomalies forums were overwhelmingly in the terrorism, war and current events forum. That is plainly evident from 9/11 forward. I had been to the forum in the year or so prior under the screen name wizoz54 and left due to the virulent anti-Christian element on the Hoagland-based main forum.

It sucked, and I am glad that forum died the horrible death as it deservedly did.

My posts to the anomalous UFO/false gods aspect forums were primarily limited to the religion forum and the main forum and regarded the Biblical Nephilim and the absolute debunking of the Zachariah Sitchin crap.

I did not come from Anomalies... I came from my Christian faith, my personal experiences and what I know to be the reality of this world.

    Period.
