Iran 'Directed' Washington, D.C., Terror Plot, U.S. Says

FBI and DEA agents have disrupted a plot to commit a "significant terrorist act in the United States" tied to Iran, federal officials told ABC News today.

The officials said the plot included the assassination of the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States, Adel Al-Jubeir, with a bomb and subsequent bomb attacks on the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Washington, D.C. Bombings of the Saudi and Israeli embassies in Buenos Aires, Argentina, were also discussed, according to the U.S. officials.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said in an announcement today that the plan was "conceived, sponsored and was directed from Iran" by a faction of the government and called it a "flagrant" violation of U.S. and international law.

"The U.S. is committed to holding Iran accountable for its actions," Holder said. He said the White House will be meeting with federal agencies before announcing "further action" in regards to Iran.

FBI Director Robert Mueller said the arrest of a suspect in the plot shows the U.S. will "bring the full weight of [the] law to bear on those responsible" and that "any attempts on American soil will not be tolerated."

The stunning allegations come against a backdrop of longstanding tensions between Iran and the United States and Saudi Arabia. In the last year, Saudi Arabia has attempted to build an anti-Iran alliance to push back against perceived aggression by Iran in the region.

An Iranian representative in Washington, D.C., told ABC News the U.S. government's story was "fake" but declined to provide any other information.

The State Department has listed Iran as a "state sponsor" of terror since 1984. Officials in Argentina have said Iran was behind an attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992.

Alleged Terror Plotter Claims He Was 'Directed By High-Ranking' Iranian Officials

The new case, called Operation Red Coalition, began in May when an Iranian-American from Corpus Christi, Texas, approached a DEA informant seeking the help of a Mexican drug cartel to assassinate the Saudi ambassador, according to counter-terrorism officials.

The Iranian-American thought he was dealing with a member of the feared Zetas Mexican drug organization, according to agents.



The DEA office in Houston brought in FBI agents as the international terror implications of the case became apparent.

The Iranian-American, identified by federal officials as Manssor Arbabsiar, 56, reportedly claimed he was being "directed by high-ranking members of the Iranian government," including a cousin who was "a member of the Iranian army but did not wear a uniform," according to a person briefed on the details of the case. Counter-terrorism officials said they believe the cousin may be part of the special operations unit of the Revolutionary Guard, the Quds force.

Arbabsiar and a second man, Gohlam Shakuri, an Iranian official, were named in a five-count criminal complaint filed Tuesday afternoon in federal court in New York. They were charged with conspiracy to kill a foreign official and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction, a bomb, among other counts. Shakuri is still at large in Iran, Holder said.

The complaint also refers to another Iranian official but does not name him.

U.S. officials said Arbabsiar met twice in July with the DEA informant in the northern Mexico city of Reynosa, across the border from McAllen, Texas, and negotiated a $1.5 million payment for the assassination of the Saudi ambassador. As a down payment, officials said Arbabsiar wired two payments of $49,960 on Aug. 1 and Aug. 9 to an FBI undercover bank account after he had returned to Iran.

Federal agents said the DEA and the FBI recorded a number of meetings and phone calls between the informant and Arbabsiar, some of them from Iran.



Officials said Arbabsiar flew from Iran through Frankfurt, Germany, to Mexico City Sept. 29 for a final planning session, but was refused entry to Mexico and put on a plane to New York, where he was arrested.

Arbabsiar, a naturalized U.S. citizen, expressed "utter disregard for collateral damage" in the planned bomb attacks in Washington, according to officials.

He also reportedly told the undercover DEA informant that his contacts in the Iranian government could provide "tons of opium" for the Mexican cartels, according to officials who have reviewed the case file.

Officials said Arbabsiar is now cooperating with prosecutors and federal agents in New York, where the case has been transferred.

"Though it reads like the pages of a Hollywood script, the impact would've been very real and many lives would've been lost," Mueller said of the foiled plot.

A spokesperson at the Saudi embassy in Washington, D.C., said she was unaware of the alleged plot.

Gunman Reportedly Opens Fire at Chicago-Area FedEx Facility

DEVELOPING: A former employee opened fire at a Chicago-area FedEx building Thursday morning before shooting and killing himself, authorities said.


FedEx spokesman Bryson Thornton said a gunman was reported Thursday morning at the company's Bedford Park facility southwest of Chicago.


When a SWAT team entered the facility shortly after 8 a.m., they found the suspect had shot himself and recovered a revolver from the body.


No one else was injured in the shooting, according to police.
Fox affiliate WFLD-TV reported that the alleged gunman is a former employee at the facility. The alleged shooter may have gained entry into the building by walking in behind an employee, according to the station.



Bedford Park is about 15 miles southwest of Chicago.

URGENT: A 25-year-old man described as an Islamic extremist was arrested in an alleged plot to attack crowded areas in the Tampa, Fla., area with a car bomb, assault rifle and other explosives, authorities said Monday.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Sami Osmakac, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in the former Yugoslavia, was arrested Saturday night.

Osmakac, from Pinellas County, allegedly told an undercover agent that "We all have to die, so why not die the Islamic way?'" according to a federal complaint.

FBI agents arrested Osmakac on Saturday after he allegedly bought explosive devices and firearms from an undercover agent. The firearms and explosives were rendered inoperable by law enforcement. The federal complaint says that shortly before his arrest, Osmakac made a video of himself explaining his motives for carrying out the planned violent attack.

He has been charged with one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. His first appearance in federal court is scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. ET.

Sources close to the investigation told Fox News that Osmakac was being "closely monitored by law enforcement" for months in what authorities have described as a "sting operation."

Federal officials said a confidential source told them in Sept. 2011 that Osmakac wanted Al Qaeda flags. Two months later, the federal complaint said, Osmakac and the confidential source "discussed and identified potential targets in Tampa" that Osmakac wanted to attack.

Osmakac allegedly asked the source for help getting the firearms and explosives for the attacks, and the source put him in touch with an undercover FBI employee.

On Dec. 21, Osmakac met with the undercover agent and allegedly told the agent that he wanted to buy an AK-47-style machine gun, Uzi submachine guns, high capacity magazines, grenades and explosive belt. During a later meeting, Osmakac gave the agent a $500 down payment for the items.

"According to the complaint, Osmakac also asked the undercover employee whether he/she could build bombs that could be placed in three different vehicles and detonated remotely, near where Osmakac would conduct a follow-up attack using the other weapons he requested," a press release from the Department of Justice said. "The undercover employee said he/she could possibly provide explosives for one vehicle. Osmakac also allegedly said that he wanted an explosive belt constructed to kill people."

On Jan. 1, Osmakac told the agent that he wanted to bomb night clubs, the Operations Center of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and a business in Tampa, Florida.

Osmakac told the undercover FBI agent that he wanted to detonate a car bomb and use the explosive belt to "get in somewhere where there's a lot of people" and take hostages.

He also allegedly told the agent that "Once I have this…they can take me in five million pieces," in an apparent reference to a suicide blast. During that meeting, the agent told Osmakac he could always change his mind about his plot.

Osmakac had created a "martyrdom video" and tried on a bomb belt before being arrested Saturday, law enforcement officials told Fox News.

Authorities Raid Urbandale Man's Apartment

An Urbandale man is being investigated after witnesses reported hearing him talk about making a dirty bomb.

Two witnesses told law enforcement that Justin Sheridan has done things and said things that they consider a threat to the public. That was enough for law enforcement to open an investigation that they classify as a terrorism threat case.

State and local agents moved in to search Sheridan’s apartment and vehicle last week.

A written statement to law enforcement from an informant states that "(Sheridan) told me he's found out how to make...a fertilizer bomb, and that he doesn't expect to live long...so he said he's going to go out with a bang...he's an anarchist."

The statement also said, "I notified the FBI because he's started to collect smoke detectors for material in making a bomb... using the radioactive material in the detectors."

A second informant told law enforcement, "Justin Sheridan wanted (me) to provide smoke detectors from the job sites...so that he could remove the 'Alpha emitter to make a bomb.'"

A task force of agents searched Sheridan's apartment and found "a cardboard box with smoke detector parts wrapped in tin foil. The parts are Americium - 241 Alpha Emitters."

"This individual was attempting to collect very small, minute traces of radioactive material that's in a smoke detector. But as I understand it, it's such a minute amount of radiation that it really doesn't pose a problem to anybody unless they actually ingest it," said James Saunders with Iowa Department of Public Safety.

Agents also seized computer equipment, guns, gun magazines, ammunition, a "tactical" black vest and ski mask, and a vibrating lock pick.

Agents told KCCI that, while searching the apartment, they found evidence of an illegal psychedelic mushroom growing operation. They called in drug agents, who sought a second search warrant to focus on the drugs.

The informant who went to the FBI told law enforcement, "After Virginia Tech, Columbine and other incidents, I didn't want any potential loss of life having not done anything to stop it."

"He did pose a risk. And so we're fortunate that the public stepped up and reported the suspicious activity, and law enforcement took immediate action," Saunders said.

Saunders said the public was not at risk from the radioactive material because it was so small an amount. Agents are testing the weapons found, and they're searching Sheridan's computer before deciding whether to file any charges.

Sheridan was booked at the Polk County Jail and has since been released.

Modern-day scientific Magellans and Columbus's, exploring the uncharted seas at the fringes of the Periodic Table of the Elements, have landed on one long-sought island - the fabled Island of Stability, home of a new genre of superheavy chemical elements sought for more than three decades.

In a presentation at the 235th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, one of the captains of these expeditions into the unknown, described how researchers now are eying other islands on the more-distant fringes of the periodic table.

"Now that it has been shown that the 'island of stability' of superheavy elements exists, it would be interesting to predict the position of other islands," said Yuri Oganessian, Ph.D., of Russia's Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna. He is the scientific leader at the Institute's Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions.

The discovery of superheavy elements at the beginning of this century by Oganessian's group also confirmed the existence of the Island of Stability, a theoretical region of the periodic table, which distinguished chemist and Nobel laureate Glenn Seaborg considered as one of the keystones of fundamental science. The "sea-and-island" analogy arose because these superheavy elements lie in an area of the periodic table where other elements are unstable, disappearing in much less than the blink of an eye. The superheavies, in contrast, are somewhat more stable than their shorter-lived cousins.

Oganessian's group has teamed with California's Lawrence Livermore Laboratory to synthesize five new elements (113, 114, 115, 116, and 118) over the past six years. Such superheavy elements do not exist in nature and can only be created by smashing lighter elements together at tremendous speeds obtained by means of highly sophisticated particle accelerators.

The periodic table, a fixture on the walls of science classrooms around the world, lists all the chemical elements. These materials make up everything in the universe, from human beings, medicines, and food to stars and swirling clouds of gas a billion light-years across the universe. The first 92 elements on the table exist naturally. The rest - which now extend to element 118 - were created by scientists in atomic nuclei collision with the aid of particle accelerators. Aptly named, these machines accelerate atoms to nearly 1/10 the speed of light and smash them into other so-called "target" atoms. Sometimes the nuclei of two colliding atoms fuse and a new element is formed.

Oganessian and his colleagues are currently using Dubna's particle accelerator in an attempt to synthesize yet another superheavy element, No. 120, to add more territory to the island of stability. Strikingly, Oganessian believes that another, more distant, island of stability lies further out in that sea at the periodic table's fringes.

"The next island is located very far from the first one," said Oganessian. How far away might that next island be" In terms of numbers on the periodic table, it could lie around atomic number 164, as some theorists predicted, certainly a long way from where researchers are exploring today in hopes of discovering element 120.

But reaching the shores of the next island of stability will require a more deep understanding of the processes of element formation and a newer, more sophisticated particle accelerator, Oganessian believes.

In order to study the physical and chemical properties of the current and yet-to-be discovered superheavy elements, the researchers will need to produce many more nuclides than they have been able to do so far, according to Oganessian.

"For this purpose, we need to increase the beam intensity, which will demand a new accelerator," Oganessian said.

It is difficult to anticipate what practical uses might come out of the search for new superheavy elements. For now, the focus is on discovery, not application. However, some previously synthesized elements have yielded tremendous benefits for people. One example, element 95 - Americium - discovered in 1944, is used in smoke detectors and in medical and industrial radiography.

Oganessian declined to speculate on potential uses of future superheavy elements, but noted that it will take revolutionary new technology to produce large enough amounts of these elements to make them of practical use. Although he said it is hard for him to imagine such a technology, he expressed faith in the abilities of future researchers.

"I don't want to fantasize, but if they can devise a method for the production of superheavy elements in large quantities, I am sure they can find some worthy application for these elements," Oganessian said.

Carlsbad Current-Argus, Mar. 10, 2014: Four more employees at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant have tested positive for elevated levels of radiation over the weekend. The Department of Energy announced that fecal samples taken from employees at the nuclear waste facility found 17 workers tested positive for low levels of radiation. After initial testing more than a week ago, the DOE reported 13 workers tested positive for trace amounts americium and plutonium. [...]

On the other hand, the radioactivity [from WIPP] in the air is in a particular form [i.e. particulate] that can deposit in your lung. Radioactive material is attracted to your lung tissue. What you breathe in does not come out.

New Mexico Sets Deadlines for Handling Nuke Waste or Evacuate

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The federal government's only underground nuclear waste dump remained shuttered Monday and state environment officials said they have set deadlines for the U.S. Department of Energy and its contractor to deal with radioactive waste left above ground at the repository.

Dozens of drums and other special containers that have been shipped to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant from federal facilities around the country are being stored in a parking area at the plant and inside the facility's waste handling building.

From there, the waste is usually taken to its final resting place deep in underground salt beds. However, the repository has been closed since early February due to back-to-back accidents, including a radiation release that exposed at least 13 workers and set off air monitoring devices around the plant.

Under its permit with the state, the dump can keep waste stored in the parking area for only 30 days and up to 60 days in the handling building. Due to the closure, the state is extending those deadlines to 60 days and 105 days, respectively. The federal government would have to develop an alternative storage plan if the underground dump remains off-limits for more than three months.

The Environment Department outlined the deadlines, along with requirements for weekly reports and a mandatory inspection before operations resume, in an administrative order made public Monday.

Jeff Kendall, general counsel for the department, said state officials believe allowing a little more time to fully vet all the options for safely storing the waste is the best bet.

"To require them to begin to systematically ship particular waste units back to points of origin or back to particular locations in a rather expedited fashion was not the best thing as far as environmental health or human health in this instance," Kendall said in a phone interview.

Kendall added that the order also gives the state more explicit oversight as to what happens with the waste and how things are being handled by DOE and the plant managers.

After 15 years of operating with a stellar record, a truck that officials said was hauling salt in the underground chambers caught fire Feb. 5, shuttering the plant and halting all waste shipments. Nine days later, a radiation alert activated in the area where newly arrived waste was being stored.

Tests are ongoing to determine the health effects for the workers, and officials have yet to determine what may have caused the leak. They have been unable to access the underground portion of the repository.

Donavan Mager, a spokesman for Nuclear Waste Partnership LLC, which runs WIPP, said Monday onsite monitoring and sampling of the surrounding soil, vegetation and water continue. He said new results are expected in the coming days.

WIPP officials confirmed Monday that only 13 employees were onsite when the radiation release occurred late Feb. 14. Another 140 employees showed up for work the following day.
Now, there are only 80 essential workers on site. Mager said they're working in areas that have been tested and are free of contamination.

Some areas have been designated as "radiological buffers," where only trained radiological workers can go. Mager said those workers are wearing protective equipment.
Every time workers leave the site, Mager said they are checked for any contamination.

WIPP is the nation's first underground nuclear repository and the only facility in the country that can store plutonium-contaminated clothing and tools from Los Alamos National Laboratory and other federal nuclear sites.

Since opening, the plant has received more than 11,890 shipments, totaling more than 90,000 cubic meters of waste.

The above-ground material targeted by the state Environment Department's order includes 145 cubic meters of waste in containers of various sizes and shapes.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Federal officials Thursday confirmed a leak of nuclear waste at a southeastern New Mexico repository, but it could be weeks before workers can safely access the underground dump to determine what happened.

The release of radiation from the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant poses no immediate public health threat, officials emphasized, but the state environment secretary said he was concerned with the lag in getting information about the incident.

The radiation leak potentially affects 14 million residents in New Mexico, Texas, and Chihuahua (Mexico). If the leak is as bad as some experts speculate, then the effect to the multi-state area could be much like a "dirty bomb", rendering El Paso, Las Cruces, Midland/Odessa, Ciudad Juarez, and other major North American cities inhabitable for decades to come.

The DOE on Saturday announced that it had shuttered operations in response to an underground radiation sensor. But it wasn't until Wednesday night that DOE confirmed that radiation had also been released above ground, about a half mile from the plant. And it wasn't until a Thursday press conference that Jose Franco, manager of the DOE's Carlsbad Field Office, confirmed publicly that readings from the monitors matched materials from the waste that is stored there, indicating a leak.

Environment Secretary Ryan Flynn said he traveled to Carlsbad as soon as he was told Wednesday night that radiation had been picked up by an above ground air sensor.

"We are wondering why it took a couple of days to confirm the radiological event outside of the underground," he said. "We will demand that federal officials share information with the public in real time. That's the reason we are here."

Franco said it was the first such incident since WIPP opened 15 years ago, and that the emergency systems worked flawlessly after the alert late Friday night. He said the filters activated immediately, enabling only trace amounts of radiation to escape. The radiation levels underground have since been dropping, he said, indicating it was an isolated spill.

Flynn, however, said, "Events like this should never occur. From the state's perspective, one event is far too many. Our primary concern continues to be public safety."

"Even though the levels detected are very low," he said, "radiation is simply not supposed to be released outside the building."

The DOE has appointed a team to investigate the leak at the plant.

It was the second incident in just a matter of weeks. Earlier this month, a truck hauling salt below ground caught fire, shutting operations for a few days. Officials have not said what caused the truck fire, but Franco said it was unlikely the events were related. He also said there was no evidence of a seismic event at the site.

WIPP is the nation's first underground nuclear repository. Each week it receives 17 to 19 shipments of low-grade nuclear waste like plutonium-contaminated clothing and tools from Los Alamos National Laboratory and other federal nuclear sites around the country.

Those shipments have been halted indefinitely, which could impact the ability of Los Alamos to meet a state deadline this year for removing thousands of barrels of waste that currently are stored outside on its northern New Mexico compound.

After a large wildfire lapped at the edges of lab property in summer 2011, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez identified removal of the waste as a top priority. The Federal Government still hasn't removed the nuclear waste which is now a public health hazard.

National Guard Reservist Arrested In Alleged LA Subway Attack Plot

A National Guard reservist has been arrested at the Canadian border in Washington for allegedly trying to aid al-Qaida in a plot to attack a Southland subway.

Nicholas Teausant, 20, of Acampo, Calif., was charged Monday with attempting to provide material to support a foregoing terrorist organization, the U.S. District Attorney’s Office said. He made his first appearance in a federal courtroom in Seattle Monday afternoon.

Teausant was arrested at the Canadian border “with the intent of continuing to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a foreign terrorist organization more widely known as al-Qaida in Iraq,” officials said.

He allegedly began planning the attack late last spring with the intent of carrying it out with the use of an unknown type of explosive on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, a criminal complaint said. He allegedly posted numerous other ideas online for terrorist activities, saying he wanted to see the United States’ downfall. He also said he wanted to join the fight in Syria with known terrorist organizations there.

Teausant allegedly told an FBI informant online that the New Year’s subway bombing had been canceled because they had been “tipped off.”

The informant put the alleged would-be terrorist in contact with a mentor, who was actually an undercover federal agent. That undercover mentor gave Teausant the green light to travel to Syria. Teausant boarded an Amtrak train bound for Seattle Sunday night and then got on a bus. When the bus was about to cross the border into Canada federal agents stopped it, questioned Teausant and arrested him.

The college student has been charged with one count of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. If convicted, Teausant faces up to 12 years in prison.

Court documents say Teausant is a student at San Joaquin Delta Community College in Stockton and a member of the National Guard, who never underwent basic training because he didn’t meet academic requirements.

“He’s not a terrorist. He’s not evil,” Teausant’s mother said Monday, while sobbing.

CBS2/KCAL9 also spoke with the suspect’s grandmother, Virginia Teausant, by phone the same day. She said he “did join something, a Muslim or something, a religion, and we were really surprised by that and not happy about it.”

Issue VI Of Taliban Magazine 'Azan' Advocates A Jihadist Strategy Of Entangling America In Wars Initiated By Jihadists, Gives Wider Definition To Jihad As A Form Of Worship

The latest issue of the Taliban magazine 'Azan' carries several articles giving a wider definition of jihad as a form of worship and calls upon jihadists to target American interests across the world to ensure that U.S. resources are stretched, noting also that the mujahideen's pre-9/11 strategy of targeting American interests has been successful.

The magazine "Azan – Call to Jihad" is published by the Taliban in Khorasan, the Afghanistan-Pakistan region. The latest issue of the magazine – issue 6 – was produced sometime in June, before the fasting month of Ramadan. A PDF copy of the magazine was released through a jihadi account on Twitter associated with Omar Khaild Khorasani, a leading commander of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The English-language magazine is of scholarly reputation and is aimed at audiences across the world.

Among some major articles produced in the magazine are: a first-person account by a jihadist fighter of his life's journey, a detailed sharia-based critique of democracy by Al-Qaeda's scholar Maulana Asim Umar who is based in Pakistan and advises the Al-Qaeda leadership on matters concerning the wider South Asian region, a long essay on Dajjal (the Antichrist) by Muhammad Qasim to outline a framework to explain the current era of world affairs, a detailed exposition of the Hereafter, i.e. the life after death and what follows the day of resurrection.

The magazine carries a short "Letter from the Editor": "We say to the Ummah in times of war, change and sacrifice that our foremost weapons in this jihad are faith in Allah and His Messenger [Prophet Muhammad] and unity among ourselves. We must continue our jihad against the global Kufr [unbelief] alliance, with our ranks united, and we must not let the propaganda of the Kuffar [infidels] to alienate us from our Manhaj [method of jihad]. To the Kuffar, we say that the jihad has well and truly spread through the earth and it shall continue with the will of Allah until Islam spreads throughout the earth, even if you hate it!"

However, the magazine's major focus is outlined in its cover story titled "The Rise and Fall of America" in which it argues that the pre-9/11 strategy of the mujahideen to target American interests across the world has been working. The author of the article, Abu Salamah Al-Muhajir, observes: "The [pre-911] strategy of attacking U.S. interests has worked and needs to continue for the foreseeable future until its strength has been reduced to a state in which it will be unable to support the Tawagheet [the rulers who govern by rules other than those laid down by Allah] that rule the Muslim lands. Victory for the Ummah of Muhammad is on the horizon. All we need to do is carry on along this path of jihad and sacrifice in order to reclaim the Khilafah [Islamic caliphate] that rightfully belongs to the 'best community.'"

Azan also carries a major article titled "The Fundamentals of the Islamic Khilafah" – which explains the criteria for establishing an Islamic caliphate under a single caliph of Islam but it is not clear if the magazine's editors were aware of the June 29 announcement by which Abu Bakr Al-Baghadi, the chief of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), declared himself as the Caliph of Islam and demanded bai'yah (oaths of fealty) from all Muslims. It is possible that the magazine may have been published just before Al-Baghdadi declared his caliphate.

The article, excerpted from the writings of Maulana Qari Tayyab, the late Indian Islamic scholar, and 10th century Islamic jurist Imam Abu Al-Hasan Mawardi, is accompanied by an editorial note: "Discussions about Islamic Khilafah and its true nature are gaining momentum among the Muslims of today as the jihad to establish it strengthens around the globe. Therefore, it is necessary for the Muslim of today to understand what the fundamentals of Islamic Khilafah are and what constitutes proper leadership of Muslims. In this (adapted and translated) extract from two stalwarts of Islamic scholarship – Maulana Qari Tayyab ... (from his book Fitri Hakumat...) and Imam Mawardi... (from his book Ahkam As-Sultaniyyah), the authors briefly explain: Fundamentals of Islamic Khilafah and Obligations of the Imam of Muslims."

The article defines the purposes of the Islamic state which include: "Waging jihad against those who oppose Islam after being called to it until they accept it or enter into the dhimmah (The covenant granted to the Kuffar in an Islamic state [allowing them to live as dhimmis or second-class subjects under Islamic rule]) so to establish the sharia. Supremacy of the religion of Islam over all (false) religions."

The magazine contains an article titled "Is Pakistan going to be sandwiched?" and written by former Pakistan Air Force (PAF) technician and Pakistani Taliban commander Adnan Rasheed who narrates his experiences with interrogators from the Pakistani military's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and calls upon Pakistanis to support the jihad launched by the mujahideen. The article was meant to warn that Pakistan could be sandwiched between Afghanistan and India under new leaders elected in 2014. Rasheed's article was written sometime soon after India's nationalist leader Narendra Modi emerged victorious in May 2014 and emerging trends indicated that Dr. Abdullah Abdullah was headed to win the Afghan presidential elections, which were later deadlocked due to corruption from rivals. In the article, Rasheed reveals that his interrogators told him Dr. Abdullah was an agent of Israeli intelligence Mossad and India intelligence RAW.

Adnan Rasheed, who was famously freed in April 2012 when hundreds of the Taliban militant raided a jail in the Pakistani town of Bannu and recent media reports about his arrest by Pakistani military from South Waziristan were denied, describes the Pakistan Army as a "rental army" working for America and calls upon Pakistanis to support the jihadists, stating: "This is the main difference between the vision of this rental army and the mujahideen; the rental army is only concerned about themselves [i.e. getting their salaries from the U.S.], whereas the mujahideen are concerned about the whole Ummah. Oh people of Pakistan! Please open your eyes! Help, support and join hands with the mujahideen, your true friends! We love you all."

The magazine also produces a 16-point excerpt from the jihadist book "Join the Caravan" by Palestinian theologian Sheikh Abdullah Azzam who has inspired a generation of jihadists over past few decades. Some of these points explain why jihad is waged and include: "In order that the disbelievers do not dominate"; "Following in the footsteps of the Pious Predecessors"; "Establishing a solid foundation as a base for Islam"; "Hoping for Martyrdom"; "A shield for the Ummah, and a means for lifting disgrace off them"; "Protection of the Ummah from punishment, disfiguration and displacement"; "Jihad is the highest peak of Islam"; "Jihad is the most excellent form of worship." The excerpt produces a wider definition of jihad than is commonly accepted.

An 8th century correspondence between Islamic scholar Sufyan Ath-Thawri and the Abbasid Caliph Haroon Al-Rasheed is also produced in the magazine. In it, the scholar is shown to be bold against the ruler of his time, unlike the present era of Islamic clerics who are accused by the magazine of issuing fatwas (Islamic decrees) to suit the governments of the day. The text of the correspondence appears as part of an article titled "Scholars of Resolve" which is written as per the contents page by 11th century scholar Imam Al-Ghazzali (known to the West as Algazel), who is credited to have closed the door of ijtihad (reasoning and consensus as the source of lawmaking), thereby ending the golden era of Islam. The article focuses on the life of Islamic scholar Sufyan Ath-Thawri who refused to visit his friend Haroon Al-Rasheed when he became the caliph.

The magazine's editors also highlight that Muslims should trim their moustache and grow their beard. In support, they cite a saying of Prophet Muhammad, narrated by Abu Hurayrah, a companion of the prophet: "The ruler of Yemen, appointed by the Persian emperor Kisra [Chosroes], sent two envoys to the Messenger [Muhammad]. When they came into his presence, he noticed that they had shaved their beards and let their moustaches grow big. Hating their ugly appearance, he turned his face away and said, 'Woe be to you! Who told you to do so?' They replied: 'Our lord (Kisra) did!' The Messenger responded: 'But my Lord [Allah]… has commanded me to spare my beard and trim my moustaches."

Towards the end, the editors, who have remained unidentified since the magazine began publishing, pay tributes to muhajireen (foreign jihadis) fighting in the Pakistan-Afghanistan region and elsewhere in the Islamic world by citing a verse from the Koran (Chapter At-Tawbah, Verse 20): "Those who believed and emigrated and strove hard and fought in Allah's cause with their wealth and their lives are far higher in degree with Allah. They are the successful. Their Lord gives them glad tidings of a Mercy from Him, and that He is pleased (with them), and of Gardens (Paradise) for them wherein are everlasting delights. They will dwell therein forever. Verily, with Allah is a great reward."

A news conference Tuesday should reveal more details about a California school shooting plot.


Police in the Los Angeles suburb of South Pasadena said Monday they had thwarted a mass shooting plot with the arrest of two teenagers who were conspiring to kill three staffers and as many fellow students as possible at their high school.
Detectives were tipped off to the plot by South Pasadena High School administrators and arrested the two students after serving search warrants at each of their homes, the South Pasadena Police Department said in a statement posted online.

"Enough evidence was discovered, and based on that evidence the two students were arrested," the statement said, though it did not identify the pair or make clear when they were taken into custody.
One of the youths was detained without incident, while the second student "resisted arrest and officers had to force entry into his residence," police said in the statement.

"He was captured in the home as he tried to run away from the arresting officers," police said.

No further details of the alleged plan to attack the school were given, except that police said the two youths were "plotting to kill three staff members and as many students as possible with firearms."

"This is a prime example of school officials recognizing suspicious behavior," police Sergeant Brian Solinsky said in the statement. "It was this information that helped prevent a horrific tragedy."
Police were expected to reveal more details of the arrests and their investigation at a news conference Tuesday morning in South Pasadena, an affluent suburban town of some 24,000 residents about eight miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

South Pasadena Unified School District Supt. Geoff Yantz said in a statement that psychologists and counselors will be at the school to support students and employees when classes start Thursday.
"The police have the situation under control and there is currently no threat to students or employees," he said.
Just over 1,500 students are currently enrolled at the high school, according to its website.

News of the two arrests in Southern California came three weeks after a judge in Minnesota dismissed attempted murder and property damage charges brought against a teenager there who was accused of planning a shooting and bomb attack on his high school. Prosecutors said they planned to appeal that ruling.

Aurora Police find suspicious item inside RV

AURORA - Aurora Police say a man walked into a bank Wednesday morning and told employees "you better call police."


Bankers called police, and APD says they arrived to the First Bank at 25541 East Smoky Hill Road at around 9:20 a.m.


Police encountered the man in the bank's parking lot near an RV. Officers searched the motorhome and discovered what they are calling a "suspicious item."


"When we got here we were able to find this male subject located in the parking lot outside an RV. Based on comments he made to officers when they first arrived here, it led us to a suspicious item which was located inside the RV," said Sergeant Chris Amsler with the Aurora Police Department.


The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad and the Denver Police Department K9 unit and bomb detection dogs are on scene.


Police did not find anything suspicious inside the bank and say the suspect did not try and rob the bank.


The man is in custody and police are questioning him.


The Cherry Creek School District says Cherokee Trail High School and Fox Ridge Middle School have initiated a secure perimeter' due to the police activity, which is expected to last several hours.


A secure perimeter means all students outside the building are brought inside, and the exterior doors are locked.


"We do not believe there is a threat to the schools," Amsler said. "It's a good distance away and the item is quite small."


Activities and classes continue as normal inside the schools.


Police advise drivers to avoid the area due to the activity.


East Smoky Hill Road is closed westbound to East Arapahoe Road, and eastbound to South Tallyn's Reach Parkway.

Scare outside Aurora bank proves to be harmless incident

AURORA, Colo. — A bomb scare Wednesday outside an Aurora bank triggered two nearby schools to close access to their campuses–along with several streets for hours.
It was probably the last thing anyone expected at 1st Bank at 25541 Smoky Hill Rd. just after 9 a.m.


Aurora Police evacuated and closed the bank after a man driving an RV walked in and started talking.


“He made comments about there’s something dangerous. He made comments that we need to wrap up his RV in plastic. He made some other comments about Hiroshima, and the end of the world,” says Sgt. Chris Amsler of Aurora Police.


Police shut down several streets, including Smoky Hill and Arapahoe Roads.


“I was on my way to Parker to babysit my granddaughter and they got everything blocked off in every direction,” says Denver motorist Robert Pigford.


And Cherry Creek School District put “secured perimeters” around Cherokee Trail High School and Fox Ridge Middle School.


“They’re not releasing kids or letting anyone in or out,” concerned mom, Latasha Bradley said.


Police then sent in a bomb robot to explore the potential danger.


The robot brought out a suspicious package, wrapped in a towel and duct tape.


Bomb experts with Arapahoe County investigated. They opened the package and found out it was a box.


“They examined it, and found what appear to be old documents. There was also a bottle with liquid,” says Sgt. Amsler.


Aurora Fire hazardous materials crews checked out the oil-based liquid to make sure it wasn’t dangerous.


The liquid was harmless.


No crime was committed in this incident. Police won’t charge the man with any crimes because they say he never actually threatened anyone with a bomb or explosive.


Since the man is not being charged, he won’t be identified either. Instead, he’s being evaluated at the hospital.

Various news outlets are reporting this morning that a new al Qaeda English-language publication called, “Palestine-Betrayal of Guilty Conscience al-Malahem,” “features a how-to article on making car bombs; and, suggests targets in the United States, including casinos in Las Vegas, oil tankers, and military colleges….and, implies an attack is imminent.”
The new magazine publication, “put out by the media arm of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), calls for Muslims around the world to follow the “recipe” provided to set off car bombs in crowded venues,” Lisa Daftari writes on the Fox News website this morning. The article “includes a timeline of “selected jihadi operations,” first reported by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI)…is “chilling” in its detail and call to jihadi arms, according to MEMRI. “The timeline concludes with the date, 201?; as well as blank spaces and question marks for photo information of the next attack — implying that it is coming soon,” said MEMRI Executive Director Steve Salinsky. “The article also contains “a suggested list of targets for the lone wolf; or, individually executed terror attacks, including New York’s Times Square, casinos and night-clubs in Las Vegas, oil tankers and trains, the Georgia Military College, the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs; and General Atomics defense contractor [and drone maker] in San Diego, California,” Ms. Daftari writes.
“The recipe gives you the ability to make a car bomb…even in countries with tight security and surveillance,” one article reads; before providing a “shopping list” of supplies needed to make such a bomb, including cooking and/or, oxygen gas, a barometer, decoration lamps, and matches,” Ms. Daftari added. In a nine-page feature article, the ‘magazine’ discusses “how to make a bomb in the kitchen of your Mom; and, an illustrated guide on assembling a pressure-cooker bomb similar to the one used in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. “My Muslim brother, before you start reading the instructions, remember this type of operation — if prepared well, and an appropriate target chosen and Allah decrees success for you…history will never forget it. It will be recorded as a crushing defeat on the enemies of Islam,” the article said.
“There is also a list of targets in Britain, including a military academy and the Marks and Spencers department [retail] chain stores. The magazine calls for the stores to be hit on Friday — during prayers — so Muslims won’t be affected,” Ms. Daftari wrote.
And, leaks by Edward Snowden prompted al-Qaeda and associated terrorist groups to change and enhance their software encryption technologies which is making it harder to ferret out and discover these kind of plots before they occur. This should give all those Edward Snowden apologists and sympathizers pause for reflection and ask themselves did Snowden’s ends justify the means — and, the consequences. This is also why the U.S. must act to eradicate the ISIS cancer that is spreading in the Middle East and North Africa. America needs a strategy now; but instead, we have a POTUS concentrating on golf, fund-raising, and climate change. V/R, RCP

Listening to Prime Minister David Cameron’s speech this a.m. on August 29th, dramatically demonstrates the difference between two leaders of the free world. PM Cameron came forth clearly and intelligently in explaining the position of the British government and her people in dealing with the ISIS terror worldwide.



In contrast we had a national as well as world insight to a weak man and President in Obama. Appearing shaken in his recent speech with his fun tan suit preparing for a fundraiser, while possibly getting another golf game in place, President Obama demonstrated the embarrassment of the United States in having a weak, spineless leader as head of our Nation. God save the United States from President Obama!
