(CNN) — Five people are dead after shootings in three communities in a county near Philadelphia in what a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation says appears to be a domestic dispute. The gunman shot and killed his former wife and then shot and killed other members of his family at a different location Monday morning, the official said.
A suspect is barricaded at a home in Souderton, the law enforcement official said.
The shootings happened at several places in Montgomery County, said John Corcoran, deputy director of public safety there.
The first shooting happened just before 4 a.m. in Lower Salford Township, a community of about 15,000, according to CNN affiliate WPVI. It said one person was killed in that shooting and two others were killed in Lansdale, a nearby community of about the same size.
WPVI reported that two additional people were shot to death in Souderton. Those communities are just north of Philadelphia.
Those reports could not independently be confirmed.

The hackers behind a devastating attack on Sony are threatening an "11th of September"-style attack on movie theaters showing an upcoming film that pokes fun at North Korea's communist dictatorship, prompting the movie's stars to cancel media appearances.
In a message emailed to various reporters and accompanying the latest in a series of leaks that have included employee emails, health and financial information, the hackers who call themselves "Guardians of Peace" sent a grim warning to people planning to attend screenings of "The Interview," even warning people who live near cinemas to leave home, according to a report from Variety.
“Warning…We will clearly show it to you at the very time and places “The Interview” be shown, including the premiere, how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to,” reads the message posted on Tuesday. “Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made. The world will be full of fear.”

Stars Seth Rogen and James Franco canceled all upcoming media appearances following the latest threats against theaters showing the movie.
The message, believed to be from the group responsible for one of the largest data breaches ever, continued:
“Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, you’d better leave.) Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment. All the world will denounce the SONY.”
Included with the threatening message was another round of leaked information from Sony’s servers, including more internal documents and studio information.

No one has been able to access the latest leaked files, which are believed to be on file-sharing sites linked to in the hackers' latest emails. They are believed to be a set of emails from Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton. Previous leaks of emails have included racially-charged comments between top level executives, including one exchange that snidely speculated President Obama would only be interested in movies starring African-Americans.
A spokesman for the studio did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Officials for the FBI said they are looking into the matter.
“The FBI is aware of recent threats and continues to work collaboratively with our partners to investigate the Sony attack," the FBI spokeswoman said to FoxNews.com.
The group also threatened to attack the premiere this coming Thursday in New York, according to a report in the New York Post. A scaled-down screening took place in Los Angeles last week without incident.
It’s not clear who is behind the Sony hack attack, which began on Nov. 24, but suspicion has centered on North Korea. Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un is reportedly outraged over the film, and in July, North Korea's ambassador to the UN complained in a letter to UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon about it.
"To allow the production and distribution of such a film on the assassination of an incumbent head of a sovereign state should be regarded as the most undisguised sponsoring of terrorism as well as an act of war," Ja Song Nam wrote. "The United States authorities should take immediate and appropriate actions to ban the production and distribution of the aforementioned film; otherwise, it will be fully responsible for encouraging and sponsoring terrorism."
The movie stars Rogen and Franco as celebrity journalists who score an interview with Kim Jong Un, only to have the CIA order them to use the opportunity to pull off an assassination.

NEW YORK - Threats of violence against movie theaters. The New York premiere of "The Interview" canceled. Leaks of thousands more private emails. Lawsuits by former employees that could cost tens of millions in damages.
The fallout from the Sony Pictures Entertainment hack that began four weeks ago exploded Tuesday after the shadowy group calling themselves Guardians of Peace escalated their attack beyond corporate espionage and threatened moviegoers with violence reminiscent of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The Department of Homeland Security said there was "no credible intelligence to indicate an active plot against movie theaters," but noted it was still analyzing messages from the group, dubbed GOP. The warning did prompt law enforcement in New York and Los Angeles to address measures to ramp up security.
Those security fears spurred Sony to allow theater chains to cancel showings of the Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy "The Interview," that has been a focus of the hackers' mission to bring down Sony.
A spokesperson for Landmark Sunshine cinemas said the New York premiere of "The Interview," scheduled for Thursday night, has been canceled. Carmike Cinemas, which operates 247 theaters across the country, was the first to cancel its planned showings of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
GOP also released a trove of data files including 32,000 emails to and from Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton in what it called the beginning of a "Christmas gift."

And two former Sony film production workers filed lawsuits alleging the Culver City, California company waited too long to notify nearly 50,000 employees that data such as Social Security numbers, salaries and medical records had been stolen.
The filing follows another lawsuit this week from two other former Sony employees accusing the studio of being negligent by not bolstering its defenses against hackers before the attack. It claims emails and other leaked information show that Sony's information-technology department and its top lawyer believed its security system was vulnerable to attack, but that company did not act on those warnings. Sony potentially faces tens of millions of dollars in damages from a class-action lawsuit, said Jonathan Handel, an entertainment law professor at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
In "The Interview," Rogen and Franco star as television journalists involved in a CIA plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Speculation about a North Korean link to the Sony hacking has centered on that country's angry denunciation of the film. Over the summer, North Korea warned that the film's release would be an "act of war that we will never tolerate." It said the U.S. will face "merciless" retaliation.
The film was slated to hit theaters nationwide on Christmas Day. It premiered in Los Angeles last week.
But on Tuesday, Rogen and Franco pulled out of all media appearances, canceling a Buzzfeed Q&A and Rogen's planned guest spot Thursday on "Late Night With Seth Meyers." A representative for Rogen said he had no comment. A spokeswoman for Franco didn't respond to queries Tuesday.
The FBI said it is aware of the GOP's threats and "continues to work collaboratively with our partners to investigate this matter." FBI director James Comey last week said that investigators are still trying to determine who is responsible for the hack.
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said his department takes the hackers' threats "very seriously" and will be taking extra precautions during the holidays at theaters. The National Association of Theatre Owners had no comment on the developing situation. Neither Sony nor representatives from individual theater chains, including Carmike, responded to requests for comment.
Since the hack surfaced late last month, everything from financial figures to salacious emails between top Sony executives has been dumped online.
The nearly 32,000 emails to and from Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Lynton leaked Tuesday include information about casting decisions and total costs for upcoming films, release schedules for Sony films through 2018 and corporate financial records, such as royalties from iTunes, Spotify and Pandora music services. They include information about new electronics devices such as DVD players and cellphones. They also include budget figures for the Motion Picture Association of America, of which Sony is a member, and at least one email about a senior Sony executive who left the company. The emails also include banal messages about public appearances, tennis matches, home repairs, dinner invitations and business introductions.
In their warning Tuesday, the hackers suggested Sony employees make contact via several disposable email addresses ending in yopmail.com. Frenchman Frederic Leroy, who started up the yopmail site in 2004, was surprised to learn the Sony hackers were using yopmail addresses. He said there was no way he could identify the users.

So basically, it is believed the North Koreans are threatening a 9-11 style attack if the premier goes on. That has been canceled now. Some of the theaters have also cancelled showing the movie.

Two NYPD cops were executed Saturday after a gang member from Baltimore trekked to Brooklyn to kill police officers in a twisted bid to avenge the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, sources told the Daily News.

The shooter — identified as Ismaaiyl Brinsley— boasted about wanting to murder cops in the hours before he ambushed the officers outside the Tompkins Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 2:45 p.m. — around the same time Baltimore officers sent a wanted flier to the NYPD.

“I’m Putting Wings On Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours...Let’s Take 2 of Theirs,” Brinsley, 28, wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of a silver handgun.

He also included the sick hashtags: #ShootThePolice #RIPErivGarner #RIPMike Brown.

“This May Be My Final Post...I’m Putting Pigs In A Blanket.”

Brinsley made good on his sinister promise, firing several rounds into the patrol car parked near Myrtle and Tompkins Aves., cops and witnesses said.

Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were in the area for an anti-terrorism drill, sources said.“The perp came out of the houses, walked up behind the car and lit them up,” a high-ranking police official told The News.

"They were quite simply assassinated," said NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton.

Brinsley then sprinted around the corner to the Myrtle-Willoughby Aves. G train subway station, with cops in close pursuit.

Brinsley, after disappearing inside the station, shot himself in the head on a subway platform, police said.

Paramedics brought Brinsley out on a stretcher and were performing CPR. But the killer, a reputed member of the gang "Black Guerilla Family," was later pronounced dead.

The mortally-wounded officers — one was on the force for seven years, the other for only two — were rushed to Woodhull Hospital. But they couldn’t be saved.

"They were struggling to get out of the car," said Courtney Felix, 23, who heard the shots from a nearby window. They were trying to get cognizance of where they were hit."

“Every New Yorker should feel they were attacked, that our entire city was attacked, by this heinous individual,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio, who was spotted on a PIX 11 video weaving through several cops who turned their backs on him as he made his way into the hospital.

Tensions between the police unions and the mayor have ratcheted up in recent weeks after a Staten Island grand jury declined to indict an officer involved in the chokehold death of Eric Garner in July.

The slayings capped a bloody day-long crime spree for Brinsley.

Hours before he showed up in Brooklyn, Brinsley shot his girlfriend about 5:45 a.m. in Owings Mill, Md., about 15 miles from Baltimore.

Details of the crime were scarce.

The 29-year-old woman, who was shot in the stomach,underwent surgery and was expected to survive, a family member told The News.

Maryland authorities refused to say if it was connected to the cop killings, but NYPD sources confirmed the link.

Brinsley stole the woman’s phone after the shooting — and headed for New York. At some point along the way, he posted a menacing update on Facebook.

“I Always Wanted To Be Known For Doing Something Right...But My Past Is Stalking Me and My Present Is Haunting Me,” it read.

“Why Live If You Don’t Love To Live,” he added in a second post, his last.

Brinsley, who was arrested on disorderly conduct charges in Georgia in 2005, also bragged about shooting his girlfriend. On his Instagram account, he posted a photo of army fatigues with apparent blood stains. “Never had a hot gun on your waist and blood on yoour shoe...N---a you ain’t been through what I been through you not like me and im not like you.”

Days earlier, Brinsley exhorted his Instagram followers to “Burn the Flag” in protest of the recent police killings of black men.

“Marching up and down the streets does little to nothing to bring awareness to serious matters,” he wrote. “So let’s ruffle some feathers and take it into our own hands and make them watch in horror as we burn what they represent.”

Witnesses said the two cops never had a chance.

“He just walked up and shot that cop in the head,” one man said.

Rescuers rushed to the aid of the mortally wounded officers.

“They basically dragged two cops out their car,” a second witness said. “I saw it. One was shot in the face. There was blood coming out of his face.”

A witness who identified herself as Winfree, 30, said she was awokened by the sound of gunshots. She went up to the roof to see what was happening.

“There was a cop on the ground and everyone was around him,” Winfree said.

“Someone was doing CPR on the cop. They put him on a stretcher and they ran him into an ambulance. They load him in and they hauled a--.

“There were like 75 cops here and a bunch ran toward the subway after the guy. There was a huge police presence there. Even undercovers were coming out of nowhere.”

The Rev. Al Sharpton, in a statement, said Garner’s family was incensed the killer invoked his name on social media.

“I have spoken to the Garner family and we are outraged by the early reports of the police killed in Brooklyn today,” Sharpton said.

“Any use of the names of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, in connection with any violence or killing of police, is reprehensible and against the pursuit of justice in both cases.”

Garner died after NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo put him in a chokehold on Staten Island on July 17. Brown, who was unarmed, was shot dead in Ferguson, Mo. by Officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9.

In both cases, the victims were black and the cops were white.

Grand juries did not indict either officer, sparking national protests and outrage over police treatment of minorities.

Following Saturday’s bloodshed, a parade of national and city political figures expressed condolences to the families of the slain officers.

“I condemn this afternoon's senseless shooting of two New York City police officers in the strongest possible terms," said Attorney General Eric Holder. "This was an unspeakable act of barbarism, and I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of these two brave officers in the line of duty."

“We will never forget the sacrifice these brave officers made to keep our city safe,” said Public Advocate Letitia James.

Councilman Robert Cornegy said “this couldn’t be any worse.”

“My prayers absolutely go out to the families of the officers,” said Cornegy.

The slain cops are the first two NYPD officers shot and killed in the line of duty since the Dec. 2011 murder of Peter Figoski, 47.

The 22-year veteran, was gunned down after responding to a botched robbery in Cypress Hills. Figoski’s killer, Lamont Pride, now 30, was sentenced to 45 years to life in prison in 2013.

The last time two NYPD cops were shot execution-style was in March 2003.

James Nemorin, 36, and Rodney Andrews, 34, were sitting in their car during an undercover gun buy operation on Staten Island when they were shot dead by gangbanger Ronell Wilson, who is on federal death row.

And Saturday’s shooting was eerily similar to the execution-style murder of rookie police officer Edward Byrne.

Byrne, 22, who was shot three times as he sat in his marked patrol car in Queens in 1988. At the time, the officer was guarding the South Jamaica home of a man whose house had been repeatedly firebombed by neighborhood crack dealers.
