Obama has decided to chime in from the golf courses of Hawaii...

President Obama on shooting of 2 NYPD officers: 'I unconditionally condemn today's murder of two police officers in New York City. Two brave men won't be going home to their loved ones tonight, and for that, there is no justification. The officers who serve and protect our communities risk their own safety for ours every single day - and they deserve our respect and gratitude every single day. Tonight, I ask people to reject violence and words that harm, and turn to words that heal - prayer, patient dialogue, and sympathy for the friends and family of the fallen' - statement

His bullshit rhetoric brought this on. He can go fuck himself!

Man Aimed Empty Gun In Cop’s Face, Pulled Trigger: Officials

    December 21, 2014

A third NYPD cop narrowly escaped with his life Saturday night when a suspect pointed a gun twice at him and pulled the trigger in The Bronx — not realizing the weapon was empty.

Cops had gone to East 140th Street in Mott Haven at 9 p.m. after getting a report of a man shooting out windows with a .357 caliber revolver.

They spotted the suspect, Raymond Leonardo, 17, and ordered him to drop the gun. Instead, he took aim at one of the officers and pulled the trigger two times, officials said.

When the gun didn’t work, he put it in his pocket and ran, authorities. Cops tackled him a few blocks away.

“It looks like he used up all of his bullets’’ firing at the windows, a law-enforcement source said.

Leonardo was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer and reckless endangerment.

Eyewitness Claims 'People Were CLAPPING AND LAUGHING' At The Scene Where Two Cops Were Killed

    December 21, 2014

Mayor Bill de Blasio said this is 'not the time for politics' following the murder of two police officers in Brooklyn on Saturday.

This as New York City's police commissioner said the gunman who ambushed and killed two police officers had made online posts that were 'very anti-police.'

Police Commissioner William Bratton choked up at a news conference at the Woodhull medical Center on Saturday afternoon as he talked about the fatal shootings of two officers in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness who spoke to The Daily Beast said that 'a lot of people were clapping and laughing' following the murder of the two police officers.

'Some were saying, "They deserved it," and another was shouting at the cops, "Serves them right because you mistreat people!”'said the man, identified as Carlos.

'Every New Yorker should feel they were attacked, that our entire city was attacked, by this heinous individual,' said de Blasio.

'When a police officer is murdered it tears at the foundation of our society. It is an attack on all of us.'

De Blasio added; 'Our city is in mourning. Our hearts are heavy. We lost two good men who devoted their lives to protecting all of us.'

Mayor de Blasio and Bratton also talked of meeting with the family of the victims, Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.

Liu was just married, and Ramos has a 13-year-old son.

Hundreds of members of the NYPD turned their back to Mayor de Blasio as he entered the news conference Saturday evening, and later these same officers lined the streets and silently saluted as the bodies of the two slain officers were taken away.

In a statement Saturday night, Attorney General Eric Holder condemned the shooting deaths as senseless and 'an unspeakable act of barbarism.'

Bratton said the gunman shot and wounded his former girlfriend in Baltimore earlier Saturday and made posts from her Instagram account.

Authorities didn't get into the specifics of the contents of the posts, but two officials said that he posted about shooting two 'pigs' in retaliation for the death of Eric Garner. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, 28, shot his girlfriend in Baltimore on Saturday morning then traveled to Brooklyn, New York City, to kill officers Liu and Ramos before turning the gun on himself.

Liu and Ramos may have not even seen the gunman before they were shot, Bratton said.

The family of Michael Brown released a statement condemning the shootings, this after reports the killer had mentioned the name of the murdered teenager on his Instagram early Saturday.

'We reject any kind of violence directed toward members of law enforcement. It cannot be tolerated. We must work together to bring peace to our communities,' they said.

'Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officers’ families during this incredibly difficult time.'

Governor Andrew Cuomo released a statement Saturday evening saying; 'Tonight, the thoughts and prayers of all New Yorkers are with the family and friends of New York City police officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, who were assassinated in the line of duty.

'This deplorable act of violence is the opposite of what New York is and what New Yorkers believe in.

'These brave officers, along with the over 34,000 other uniformed men and women of the New York Police Department, put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe.

'They run toward danger when all of our instincts tell us to run away.

'Tonight, we all come together to mourn the loss of these brave souls.'

Another officer killed in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Police Officer Shot And Killed In Florida

    December 21, 2014

A police officer in Tarpon Springs, Florida, was shot and killed early Sunday, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.

    A suspect is in custody.

The fatal shooting occurred in a residential area in the predawn hours, said Cecilia Barreda from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

The slain officer, Charles Kondek, was a 17-year veteran of the Tarpon Springs Police Department.

Kondek, 45, was a New York City police officer for five years before moving to Florida, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office identified the suspect as Marco Antonio Parilla Jr., 23.

Parilla faces a charge of first-degree murder.

The Sheriff's Office and local police are investigating.

Tarpon Springs is located on Florida's Gulf Coast about 10 miles northwest of Tampa.

Con Ed Workers Confronted Gunman After He Shot Cops

    December 21, 2014

A pair of hero Con Ed workers risked their lives in confronting the monster who assassinated a pair of cops in Brooklyn — who otherwise might have escaped if not for their bravery.

The unnamed men had been working in Bedford-Stuyvesant near where Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, gunned down Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos at just before 3 p.m. Saturday.

They saw Brinsley wordlessly open fire into the passenger side of the cops’ patrol car, and followed in their Con Ed truck as he ambled away from the carnage, still holding his silver Taurus semi-automatic.

When they confronted Brinsley on the street, attempting to stop him, Brinsley leveled the gun at the two workers, and asked them, “You want some of this?” The two backed off, and Brinsley ducked into the nearby G-train station.

But the two Con Ed workers were able to tip off pursuing cops to Brinsley’s appearance and where he’d gone.

“That’s how the cops knew he was in there,” said one law enforcement source.

When the pursuing cops ran into the subway, Brinsley, who had been standing on the platform waiting for a train, turned the gun on himself, ending his life.

NAACP Blames Guns, Not Anti-Cop Protests, For Murdered Police Officers

    December 21, 2014

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund came out swiftly with a statement condemning the brutal murder of two New York City police officers Sunday, while exploiting the event to demand gun control and trying to claim it had no connection to the recent protests against police following the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

“Yesterday’s fatal shooting of two police officers in New York is shocking and tragic. The NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights under Law extend their condolences to the families and colleagues of both officers, and we stand with the residents of New York City in mourning this senseless loss of life,” began the statement.

“These two killings…like so many other unfortunate incidences of gun violence, provide a stark example of the need for sensible gun control measures,” the statement continued.

“While some may suggest a causal link between these killings and the recent protests and activism focused on the serious issue of police violence against unarmed African Americans, we caution against escalating an already tense national state through rumor and conjecture,” the statement from the NAACP’s legal arm claimed.

“Whatever motivation lay in the apparently troubled mind of the now deceased shooter of these officers, there is no connection between the peaceful protests of thousands of people of all races all over the country and, indeed, around the world, and this hideous act of violence.”

While the NAACP may argue that it is only “rumor and “conjecture” that there’s a link between the protests and the killings, the suspected gunman — Ismaaiyl Brinsley — claimed on his own Instagram account that this action was in retaliation for the deaths of Brown and Garner at the hands of police officers.

“I’m Putting Wings On Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours…Let’s Take 2 of Theirs #ShootThePolice #RIPErivGarner #RIPMikeBrown This May Be My Final Post I’m Putting Pigs In A Blanket,” Brinsley posted shortly after ambushing the two cops in their squad car.

NYPD Officer Attacked At Harlem Station House, Security Heightened In Precincts Citywide

    December 21, 2014

A New York City police officer sustained a broken arm after being attacked inside a Harlem police precinct this afternoon, leading to heightened security at all station houses, sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The “perp opened the station house door at the 28th Precinct, attacked a patrolman and a fight ensued” one source said.

“No less than 5 MOS (members of service) are guarding precinct doors. Emergency services are being dispatched to all precincts citywide until further notice.”

FLASHBACK: Al Sharpton's Marchers in New York City Chant "What Do We Want? Dead Cops!"

Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, December 14, 2014, 2:27 PM

Several thousand protesters marched in New York City on Saturday.

The protesters were part of Al Sharpton’s “Million Marchers” protest against police violence.
The protesters chanted “What do we want?… Dead cops!” as they marched in New York City.

    Via Breitbart.com:

Of course, the media will give this bunch a pass.
After all, they’re not those violent Tea Party protesters.

Are Sharpton, de Blasio -- Even Obama -- Culpable in Murder of NYC Cops?

    12.21.2014

Al Sharpton has been everywhere these last few months, organizing marches through his National Action Network to protest the deaths of black men at the hands of white police officers. Everywhere he goes, violence follows as protesters chanting "No Justice, No Peace" set fires and loot stores.

In New York City just a week ago, Sharpton led a march in which protesters assaulted two NYPD officers and blocked traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge. Their chant then: "What do we want? Dead cops!" The reverend stood by and smiled.

Meanwhile, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio blasted city police right after a grand jury's decision not to charge officers in the death of 6-foot-4, 400-pound Eric Garner, who resisted police trying to arrest him. De Blasio said at a press conference that his wife and teenage son are not "safe from the very people they want to have faith in as their protectors."

And even President Obama has stoked racial discord. "Too many young men of color feel targeted by law enforcement -- guilty of walking while black or driving while black, judged by stereotypes that fuel fear and resentment and hopelessness," he said in September at the annual Congressional Black Caucus Foundation dinner.

After a grand jury's decision in Ferguson, Mo., not to charge Ofc. Darren Wilson in the death of 6-foot-5, 290-pound Michael Brown -- who numerous witnesses testified tried to grab the officer's gun and charged him before being shot to death -- Obama weighed in with equivocal, morally ambivalent words: "The fact is, in too many parts of this country, a deep distrust exists between law enforcement and communities of color. Some of this is the result of the legacy of racial discrimination in this country."

Then on Saturday, two NYPD officers were gunned down in cold blood. The shooter, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, had sought revenge for the Garner and Brown deaths: On his Instagram account, he wrote: "They take 1 of ours, let's take 2 of theirs."

Law enforcement officials in New York, past and present, reacted swiftly to news of the murders.

Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik told Newsmax that the killings were brought about by "de Blasio, Sharpton and all those who encouraged this anti-cop, racist mentality all have blood on their hands," he said. "They have blood on their hands."

“There’s blood on many hands tonight," Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch said. "Those that incited violence on the streets under the guise of protest that tried to tear down what NYPD officers did every day. We tried to warn it must not go on, it cannot be tolerated.”

“That blood on the hands starts at City Hall in the office of the mayor. Those who allowed this to happen will be held accountable,” he said.

The Sergeants Benevolent Association tweeted: “The blood of 2 executed police officers is on the hands of Mayor de Blasio. May God bless their families and may they rest in peace.”

Retired NYPD detective Harry Houck called out Sharpton and others, saying the demonstrations to protest the deaths of Garner and Brown have “all be predicated on lies." He went further than others, saying "I guess Al Sharpton got what he wanted."

Obama, who had made comments almost immediately after the grand jury decisions in the Brown and Garner cases, did not weigh in on the deaths of the NYC officers until after midnight on the East Coast. He is on a 17-day vacation in Hawaii and was on the golf course when the shootings occurred. He didn't release a statement until after finishing his round of golf.

His tone was far different than his previous remarks. "The officers who serve and protect our communities risk their own safety for ours every single day - and they deserve our respect and gratitude every single day. Tonight, I ask people to reject violence and words that harm, and turn to words that heal - prayer, patient dialogue, and sympathy for the friends and family of the fallen," Obama said.

De Blasio has also changed his tone swiftly, saying "Our city is in mourning. Our hearts are heavy. It is an attack on all of us." But police union leaders and officers were seen turning their backs to the mayor at the hospital where the two officers were pronounced dead.

Former Gov. George Pataki called out the mayor, saying the officers' deaths were a “predictable outcome of divisive anti-cop rhetoric of #ericholder & #mayordiblasio.” (Attorney General Eric Holder, for his part, said the shootings illustrate the importance of "forging closer bonds between officers and the communities they serve.")

And the very reverend Sharpton scrambled to fend off the damage to his operation, penning a column for the New York Daily News.

Our city is hurting, we are hurting. Today we mourn the loss of two NYPD officers who were gunned down in a vicious act of senseless violence.
As soon as news broke of the tragedy in Brooklyn, I spoke with both the families of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. And let me be perfectly clear, we are all outraged and saddened by the deaths of these police officers. Any use of the names of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, in connection with any violence or killing of police, is reprehensible and against the pursuit of justice in both cases.

At every rally and every march, we have stressed nonviolence and peaceful protests.

I delivered the eulogy at Michael Brown’s funeral and Eric Garner’s funeral and denounced anyone engaging in violence. We have even been criticized at National Action Network, NAN, for not allowing certain rhetoric/chants calling for violence, and we would abruptly denounce it at all of our gatherings. Violence never has and never will have a place in the true fight for equality and justice.

Both the Brown and Garner families send their condolences to the families of these brave police officers who were in our community serving citizens that were in need of protection. Only those who have suffered the senseless loss of a loved one understand that pain. The city must come together and protect both police and citizens. We should not be choosing between funerals; we should be choosing justice and fairness for all.

In the past, NAN has worked with former Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and current Commissioner Bill Bratton on anti-violence and gun-buyback programs. We reserve the right to question police when they are wrong, but violence to answer violence is inexcusable and unacceptable.

That is why NAN and other groups have been stressing that we must make the system work and not match those acts that we feel represent a broken system. It will only lead to more grief and will not lead to justice.

The Garner and Brown families and I have always stressed that we do not believe that all police are bad, nor do we believe that most police are bad. We must unite and work to heal our city and this nation.

Mahatma Gandhi once said: 'An eye for [an] eye only ends up making the whole world blind.' Let those who can see help lead us forward together.

NYPD Cops Warned Militant Group Black Guerilla Family ‘Preparing To Shoot On-Duty Police Officers’

An NYPD confidential informant learned of the threat on Friday evening — three days after a Staten Island grand jury decided not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo for the chokehold death of Eric Garner. Cop union confirmed the threat late Saturday and were ordering all police officers, on duty and off, to take extra precautions.

    December 7, 2014

A tattooed gang of militants declared open season on the NYPD in the wake of the Eric Garner grand jury decision, according to a threat a police union verified Saturday.

Ten Black Guerrilla Family members are “preparing to shoot on duty police officers,” Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins said.

The gang, formed in the 1960s in the California prison system, recently surfaced on the East Coast and Maryland, where members are at the heart of a drug-trafficking and corruption probe within the Baltimore prison system.

Members swear allegiance for life and sport “BGF” tattoos, as well as ink depicting a dragon surrounding a prison tower, according to gangs.org.

Letter being disseminated to policemen in the NYPD after learning of a possible threat from the Black Guerilla Family.

An undercover NYPD cop learned of the hit put out on officers Friday evening — three days after a Staten Island grand jury decided not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo in Garner’s death. Mullins confirmed late Saturday night that the gang was gunning for officers.

Union leaders ordered all officers, on duty and off, to take extra precautions.

“Please WEAR your VESTS and carry your firearm off-duty along with additional magazines,” Mullins said in an alert. “Your priority is to go home at the end of your tour!”

Mullins does not believe the threat is directly related to the Garner decision.

“I think it’s related to the whole atmosphere,” he said. “Who knows if there’s a lone wolf out there or a small group that wants to do something.”

Police Believe New York City Cop Killer Was A Member Of The Black Guerrilla Family: Sources

Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, shot two cops dead as they sat in a patrol car in Bedford-Stuyvesant to avenge the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. He also shot his former girlfriend at her home in the Baltimore area on Saturday morning, police said. Law enforcement sources said the NYPD has dispatched investigators to Baltimore to probe Brinsley's past and suspected involvement with the Black Guerrilla Family prison gang

    December 20, 2014

The cold-blooded cop-hater who gunned down two police officers in Brooklyn on Saturday is suspected of being a member of a notorious prison gang that has declared open season on the NYPD.

Detectives were headed to Baltimore on Saturday night to probe Ismaaiyl Brinsley’s ties to the Black Guerrilla Family, sources told the Daily News.

One source said Baltimore police were already investigating Brinsley’s connection to the gang, which started in California’s San Quentin Prison in the 1960s by Black Panther member George Jackson.

“BGF has been talking about getting back at cops for Eric Garner and Ferguson,” a source told The News, citing intelligence intercepted in Baltimore area prisons.

Brinsley boasted on social media about wanting to kill cops hours before ambushing two police officers on Saturday afternoon as they sat in their patrol car outside the Tompkins Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

“I’m putting wings on pigs today,” he posted on Instagram, referencing the deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and Eric Garner in Staten Island.

At a press conference on Saturday night, Mayor de Blasio called Brinsley "this horrible assassin."

Brinsley, 28, also shot his former girlfriend in her home outside of Baltimore about 5:45 a.m. before traveling to New York, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said. He took his life by shooting himself in the head inside a subway station near the Tompkins Houses after ambushing the two cops.

The stunning events in New York came just days after Black Guerrilla Family members began spreading the word that they were “preparing to shoot on-duty police officers.”

As the Daily News reported on Dec. 6, an undercover NYPD cop learned of a Black Guerrilla Family plot to kill NYPD officers on Dec. 5 — three days after a Staten Island grand jury decided not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo in Garner’s chokehold death in July. At least ten BGF members were “preparing to shoot on duty police officers,” Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins said at the time.

The threat prompted police union leaders to advise NYPD officers to take extra precautions, including carrying additional ammunition and wearing bullet-proof vests at all times.

But the NYPD investigated the intelligence and later deemed, as The News reported on Dec. 7, that there was no "credible threat" posed by the BGF. “We are aware of the reports of this anonymous general threat against police. However, at this time there is no information to indicate that this is a credible threat against the NYPD,” an NYPD spokesman said at the time.

There also was another reported threat. On Nov. 25, the NYPD spokesman said then, a police department outside of New York received a threat through an anonymous 911 call. The call, which was made to the Baltimore police department, threatened violent retribution against “cops” but did not name a specific department, according to a police source.

Investigative work on that call led NYPD investigators to conclude that the November threat was not real, the NYPD spokesman said, but the department would continue to monitor developments.

Bratton said at the press conference Saturday night that after Brinsley shot his former flame, her family notified Baltimore authorities that he was posting threats on Instagram. The authorities there sent a warning to the NYPD by fax, but it was not received until right about the time that Brinsely struck in Bed-Stuy, Bratton said.

Last year Baltimore law enforcement officials cracked down on the BGF’s stranglehold on the Baltimore City Detention Center because the gang was extorting people, intimidating witnesses and dealing drugs with help from correction officers. An investigation led to the arrest of two inmates and five corrections officers on charges of extortion, witness intimidation and drug dealing in the city jail.

Feds Deny NYPD Cop Killer Had Ties To Black Guerilla Family Prison Gang

    December 21, 2014

Two New York City police officers were shot dead "execution style" in Brooklyn on Saturday. Not much is known about the gunman, who was identified by officials as Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, except that he was a suspected gang member from Baltimore who allegedly posted on social media that he wanted revenge for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, two black men that died at the hands of police.

According to the New York Daily News, Brinsley, who was pronounced dead, had ties to the '"Black Guerilla Family" prison gang, which is also known as "Black Family" or the "Black Vanguard." The gang was formed in 1966 by Black Panther member George Jackson at the San Quentin State Prison in California, and soon grew into a multi-million dollar business with chapters stretching from Los Angeles to Kansas City and Detroit.

“BGF has been talking about getting back at cops for Eric Garner and Ferguson,” a source told the News, which also reported on a suspected Black Guerrilla Family plot to kill NYPD officers in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict an officer in Eric Garner’s chokehold death earlier this summer.

A federal law enforcement official, however, told the Baltimore Sun that Brinsley had no known ties to the BGF.

The gang is affiliated with leftist groups, including the Black Liberation Army, Symbionese Liberation Army, Weather Underground, Red Guerrilla Family, and Chicano Liberation Front, and one of its stated missions is the overthrow of the U.S. government. Gang members identify with tattoos and symbols including the letters "B-G-F," the corresponding numbers of the alphabet 2-7-6, a crossed machete and rifle, and a black dragon climbing a San Quentin prison tower, according to Police Mag. It is structured on a paramilitary ranking system (its leader holds the rank of Supreme Commander), and many of its members use the Swahili language to communicate.

The gang still operates today under James (Doc) Holiday, who was incarcerated in 1987. According to Police Mag, BGF actively recruits members from other gangs (Crips, Bloods, N.O.I., Black Panthers, or members of the 415 gang) and encourages them to continue to claim their prior affiliation. Doing so allows the BGF to operate covertly within the prison system.

Last year, Baltimore officials cracked down on the gang because it essentially took over the Baltimore City Detention Center, after members allegedly extorted people, intimidated witnesses and dealt drugs with the aid of correction officers. Five corrections officers, two inmates, and a kitchen worker are currently on trial in the ongoing racketeering conspiracy case.

The Baltimore FBI office issued a memo on Friday warning that the BGF was targeting "white cops" in Maryland, per the Sun. The memo, based on a contact who had given officials reliable information in the past, said the plan was to target white officers in order to "send a message."

Police on alert across America after murder of NYPD officers

Now Playing NYPD gives update on killings of 2 police officers

    Never autoplay videos

Wear bulletproof vests. Avoid posting inflammatory statements on social media. Don't make arrests unless you have to. Don't patrol alone.
Those are some of the warnings police departments and unions around the country are giving to the rank-and-file after two NYPD officers were ambushed and shot in their patrol car in broad daylight Saturday afternoon.
The murders of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in Brooklyn heightened fears about the safety of law enforcement officials nationwide, though there is no evidence any threats are imminent. The gunman, 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley, had vowed in an Instagram post to put "wings on pigs" as retaliation for the slayings of black men at the hands of white police.
Brinsley was black; the slain New York Police Department officers were Hispanic and Asian.
Investigators are trying to determine if Brinsley had taken part in any protests over the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, whose names he invoked in his online threat, or simply latched onto the cause for the final act in a violent rampage. Protests erupted in recent weeks after grand juries declined to charge officers involved in Garner's death following a New York officer's apparent chokehold and Brown's fatal shooting in Ferguson, Mo.
After the officers' killings, a union-generated message at the 35,000-officer NYPD warned officers that they should respond to every radio call with two cars — "no matter what the opinion of the patrol supervisor" — and not make arrests "unless absolutely necessary." The president of the detectives union told members in a letter to work in threes when out on the street, wear bulletproof vests and keep aware of their surroundings.
Another directive warned officers in Newark, New Jersey, not to patrol alone and to avoid people looking for confrontations. At the same time, a memo from an NYPD chief asked officers to limit their comments "via all venues, including social media, to expressions of sorrow and condolence."
In Philadelphia, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey urged the leaders of protests over the deaths of Garner and Brown to "call for calm and not let this escalate any further." In Boston, Police Commissioner William Evans said police issued an alert to officers to warn them about the New York City slayings and added that the department had issued several alerts following the decision by the Ferguson grand jury.
At a news conference Sunday afternoon, New York City Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce told reporters that Brimsley had numerous run-ins with law enforcement.had been arrested 15 times in Georgia, and four in Ohio for assorted crimes. He ranted online about authority figures and expressed "self-despair and anger at himself and where his life was," Boyce said.
Right before the shooting, Brinsley talked to two people on the street, asking them for their gang affiliation, urging them to follow him on Instagram, and then declaring “watch what I’m going to do,” Boyce added.
The silver handgun used in Saturday’s shooting in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood was bought at a pawn shop in Georgia in 1996 and authorities are now working with the ATF to determine how it ended up in Brinsley’s hands.
They said he traveled frequently between the South and New York, where he fathered a child in Brooklyn, and had been in the city earlier in the week. Brinsley was born in Brooklyn.
Boyce said Brinsley's mother believed he had undiagnosed mental problems and may have been on medication later in life but detective said they were still trying to determine if he had a mental illness. He attempted to hang himself a year ago, police said. His mother had told authorities that she was scared of her son and he had a troubled childhood, often acting violent.
Hours before shooting the officers, Brinsley had shot and wounded his ex-girlfriend, Shaneka Thompson, at her home in Baltimore.

Thompson's neighbor Yevette Seay told The Associated Press that Thompson's screams for help early Saturday jolted her out of bed.
"He shot me! I don't want to die. I don't want to die," Seay recalled Thompson saying.
Seay called 911 as Thompson lay on the floor, clutching her stomach. Authorities have said Thompson is expected to survive.
Brinsley then traveled north on I-95 to New York City on a Bolt bus and arrived in Manhattan, according to Boyce.
Authorities are looking for information as to what Brinsley was up to shortly after noontime and before the shooting.
“I'm putting wings on pigs today. They take 1 of ours, let's take 2 of theirs," Brinsley wrote on his Instagram account Saturday hours before the killings, two city officials with direct knowledge of the case confirmed for The Associated Press. He used the hashtags Shootthepolice RIPErivGardner (sic) RIPMikeBrown. The post also included an image of a silver handgun and the message, "This may be my final post.” The post had more than 200 likes but also had many others admonishing his statements.
Shortly after the shooting, Brinsley fled to a nearby subway station, where he shot himself in the head as a subway train door full of people closed.
Two unnamed Con Edison workers tried to stop Brinsley before he entered the station, but retreated.
When the workers confronted Brinsley on the street, he pointed his gun at him and asked them, “You want some of this?” before they backed off, the New York Post reports.
The two workers alerted police to Brinsley’s location.
“That’s how the cops knew he was in there,” one law enforcement source told the New York Post.
Boyce said Sunday that the police "can't thank those two individuals enough.”
Ramos' cousin, Ronnie Gonzalez, said the family has already forgiven the gunman.
"He's in the hands of God now," Gonzalez said. "We don't believe in vengeance, we just forgive."
Lucy Ramos, his aunt, asked for a “peaceful co-existence” and hopes that the community can move forward from the shooting.
A candlelight vigil was held at the scene of the shooting on Sunday night.
Ramos was married with a 13-year-old son and had another in college, police and a friend told the Associated Press. He had been on the job since 2012 and was a school safety officer.
The New York Yankees will pay for the education of both children, the New York Daily News reports.
Liu had been on the job for seven years and got married two months ago.
