Beijing Jeep Rolls Out Bruce Lee-Inspired Military Jeep

Beijing Jeep has introduced this new product, the first new vehicle for China's military in 35 years.

When American auto designer Edward Wong set out to create the first new Chinese military Jeep in 35 years, he drew his inspiration from Bruce Lee and the Shaolin monks, Chinese Buddhists associated with the martial arts. Little wonder then, that the new BJ2S is nicknamed "the Warrior."

"I did not want to design another Humvee," Wong told Car Design News. "I want this vehicle to represent China, its people and its cultures."

An American auto designer, Edward Wong, created the Beijing Jeep BJ2S and said he didn't want it to be just another Humvee but to transmit the flavor of China's cultural heritage.

While the BJ2S is on tap to replace all military Jeeps for the People's Liberation Army starting later this year, civilian versions are set to debut in the future.

The BJ2S is decidedly un-Humvee-ish with lots of Chinese influences. The front fascia is patterned after a mythical Chinese creature called a kylin or qilin that is said to be a good omen. The five slots in the grille stand for the five stars in the Chinese flag, and the three-slot front guard represents the army, air force and navy.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army will get the first BJ2S vehicles, but civilian versions will come eventually.

These are pictures of the BJ2S, the first new Chinese military jeep in 35 years. Hailing from the Beijing Jeep Corporation (BJC), the BJ2S is also called the 'Warrior' and was designed by Edward Wong. The entire concept came to realization in a scant two and a half months.

Wong took inspiration from Bruce Lee and the Shaolin monks when creating the BJ2S, a utilitarian design theme with a front fascia drawing on the face of the kylin, an auspicious animal in Chinese culture.

"I did not want to design another Humvee," said Wong, "I want this vehicle to represent China, its people and its cultures."

The 5 slots in the grille are representative of the 5 stars in the Chinese flag and the 3-slot front guard represents the army, air force, and navy. Chamfered surfaces in the body panels are claimed to create a diamond-like feel to the hard body, while the character of the door cut line carries on the spirit of the original BJC 2020.

The BJ2S is scheduled for production later this year, replacing all military jeeps for the People's Liberation Army in China. Civilian versions are scheduled to be rolled out at a later date.

I believe Obama has handed parts of our Auto industry on a platter to China. Now through Jeep they have some new technology to reverse engineer in their Military.
