Posted on 11/01/2007 7:28:10 AM MDT by jveritas

On October 1 2007, one of the two largest terrorist forum on the internet “Al Ekhlass”, posted a thread titled “The Formation Of The Jihadi Battalions to Attack the Internet” where they called for the formation of groups from among the members of the terrorist forums and blogs to launch a massive attack on the Internet and spread their terrorist propaganda and material as well as hack websites and forums. Now the terrorist are already claiming some successes in their internet campaign as they published few days ago that they were able to infiltrate 15 forums and they code-named this infiltration operation “Irhabi 007 Attack” after the infamous internet terrorist “Irahabi 007” or “Terrorist 007” whose real name is Younis AL Tsouli and was captured in Britain 2 years ago. We have to be careful on FR from a possible hacking job by the terrorists because they are very much aware of the threads we posted here to shut down the terrorist websites and forums.

Bin Ladens Followers Planning Electronic Jihad Cyber Terror Attack On 11/11?

    October 31, 2007

Debka has posted this announcement on their site:

In a special Internet announcement in Arabic, picked up DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources, Osama bin Laden’s followers announced Monday, Oct. 29, the launching of Electronic Jihad. On Sunday, Nov. 11, al Qaeda’s electronic experts will start attacking Western, Jewish, Israeli, Muslim apostate and Shiite Web sites. On Day One, they will test their skills against 15 targeted sites expand the operation from day to day thereafter until hundreds of thousands of Islamist hackers are in action against untold numbers of anti-Muslim sites.

DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources report that, shortly after the first announcement, some of al Qaeda’s own Web sites went blank, apparently crashed by the American intelligence computer experts tracking them.

The next day, Oct. 30, they were up again, claiming their Islamic fire walls were proof against infidel assault.

They also boasted an impenetrable e-mail network for volunteers wishing to join up with the cyber jihad to contact and receive instructions undetected by the security agencies in their respective countries.

Our sources say the instructions come in simple language and are organized in sections according to target. They offer would-be martyrs, who for one reason or another are unable to fight in the field, to fulfill their jihad obligations on the Net. These virtual martyrs are assured of the same thrill and sense of elation as a jihadi on the “battlefield.”

In effect, say DEBKAfile’s counter-terror experts, al Qaeda is retaliating against Western intelligence agencies’ tactics, which detect new terrorist sites and zap them as soon as they appear. Until now, the jihadists kept dodging the assault by throwing up dozens of new sites simultaneously. This kept the trackers busy and ensured that some of the sites survived, while empty pages were promptly replaced. But as al Qaeda’s cyber wizards got better at keeping its presence on the Net for longer periods, so too did Western counter-attackers at knocking them down. Now Bin Laden’s cyber legions are fighting back. The electronic war they have declared could cause considerable trouble on the world’s Internet.

i dunno about their firewalls, could be hardware and or software. im betting its both. also, they are KNOWN for using pirated software so its only natural they have good stuff but theres ways around firewalls. especially if they are using laptops and wireless networks.

Secondly, email security? its only as good as its user. they are using a homegrown re do of GnuPG, open source freeware version of PGP. they dont trust either western product, so they made their own version based on source code for PGP and GnuPG. im told its not perfect, and i wont say more. they arent as impenetrable as they think, but im glad they think they are. it gives us a lot of tools.

As far as offensive capabilities, be careful guys. theres lots of effective ways to compromise a system, its data, and all its connected to. same goes for websites.

Batten down the hatches, and lock the doors, electronically. get a good firewall, a good AV, use em often, and keep em up to date. same thing with anti spyware. also, make backups of all your data and OS on your puter and have mirrors of your sites ready to go at a moments notice.

one other thing: be sure who you are writing, chatting with, emailing, connecting to. if you wouldnt invite that person into your home for dinner with wifey and kids, DO NOT INTERACT WITH EM ON THE PUTER EITHER. ignore and delete all comm from them.

also look real hard at the remote access to your systems. if you dont absolutely need it, turn it off.

If you need email security go PAY for PGP. it also locks up your data on your hard drive, thumbdrives, Instant Messenger as well as email.

get acronis true image for hard drive backups and get a spare hard drive to save it to. in vista biz and vista ultimate you have the ability to do this built right into the OS.

be careful, and be vigilant and report anything suspicious.

Most effective attacks are "zombie" machines using DDOS (dispersed denial of service) attacks, wherein most of the zombie machines are pinging the attacked machine(s).

That means machines have to have already been compromised, so it's likely too late for batten down hatches, IF this is a real threat.

You can also run a DDoS if you know IP and Mac information of your target host. The solution to that is sophisticated tools for electronically broadcasting a diff mac address instead of the actual burn in address on the card or wifi card.

And IP address can be changed, either by doing so at the provider level, or if you have a laptop, just relocate to a different network.

Mirror sites on different servers with different providers also cure the DDoS, as the Evil little jihadi monkeys cant kill em all.

Well, yes and no. You need machines, plural to run a DDOS attack. That's where the zombies come in. TYPICALLY you get a botnet up and running, and then send signals with the IP address range of the victim and set it to work.

You can do a DOS (denial of service) attack with one machine, yes, but it's not very effective once the target figures out what's happening. There's a lot of fixes for that sort of thing.

I was differentiating between DOS and DDOS is all.

Yup, or multiple botnets to make the attack all the more effective. this is something the jihadis are good at. the site mirrors make it a far less effective form of attack though. you cant get them all.....
