Mexican Officials to Patrol Staten Island Following Latest Bias Attack

Sixth attack against immigrants since April

    By JUAN DEJESUS

Updated 7:44 PM EDT, Tue, Jul 27, 2010

Police are investigating another assault on a Hispanic man in Staten Island as a possible hate crime -- and the Mexican government is now getting involved as well.

Five men attacked the 40-year-old Mexican man Friday night as he was walking home after a soccer game at Faber Park, cop said. The attackers allegedly pummeled him while yelling anti-Mexican epithets. The man suffered head trauma, a fractured jaw and needed ten stitches above his eye, officials said.

The group of men made off with his backpack.

This is at least the sixth violent, ethnically-charged incident that has taken place in the neighborhood since April, and community leaders are urging residents to remain alert.

“We will act decisively in order to protect our citizens and will actively promote that those guilty of these vicious attacks are brought to justice expeditiously. We are working hand-in-hand with local authorities on all levels,” said Consul General of Mexico in New York, Ruben Beltran in an email to the Staten Island Advance.

The latest victim is a construction worker who has called the United States his home for the last five years, said Beltran. Police say they are looking for five suspects in this latest case, which is being investigated as a hate crime.

Beltran has asked the NYPD to “conduct a thorough investigation” of the alleged hate-crime cases. Beltran has offered “extensive cooperation and all the necessary support to ensure that justice is served.”

According to the Advance, this latest incident has promoted the Mexican Consulate to post personnel in Staten Island until further notice. This move is an effort to safeguard the rights of individuals and effectively assist and provide information to the Mexican residents of this area.

The Guardian Angels, lead by Curtis Sliwa, have also pledged to patrol the area. Make the Road New York, a local community group that serves the communities of Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island is organizing a march that will take place on Wednesday.

Mexican officials have also created an information line that for immigrants to contact if they are afraid to contact authorities directly, the number is 1-800-724-7264.

Are illegals infiltrating U.S. military bases?

Sheriff Joe hunts aliens working at Army intelligence post

Sheriff Arpaio posted this photo to Twitter with the following caption: "This is a message to smugglers who may think law enforcement is not prepared to encounter them in the desert."

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is warning that illegal aliens may have gained access to a U.S. Army installation in Arizona that also serves as the nation's largest military intelligence-training center.

"I have deep concerns that people who come into our country illegally have managed to gain access onto an active U.S. military installation," Arpaio said in a statement today. "This cause for concern goes well beyond the argument that people are only committing the crime of wanting to work in this country."
Arpaio's detectives raided Valley View Building Services in central Phoenix today, searching for 25 people suspected of identity theft and fraud.

The company employs 100 people in three states and is contracted to clean newly constructed buildings at Fort Huachuca, an Army post located only 15 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border. At least one of the suspects had worked on the military installation.

The deputies took five women into custody today. Four are suspected illegal aliens arrested for identity theft and fraud. One is a U.S. citizen wanted with an outstanding warrant.

"When we went in there, one of the ladies was hiding her Mexican I.D. in an enchilada, trying to conceal the identification," Arpaio said.
He said authorities are still searching for other illegal aliens who may be working for the company.

"We did serve another search warrant on the residence of the owner and, going through the papers, we're going to determine which work sites that the others may be working at," he said.

Arpaio told KTVK-3TV, "One thing I want to find out is how many more illegals have been hired [to work at] Fort Huachuca. That's a high intelligence installation. I don't think people should go on that installation to work if they're in this country illegally."

Valley View Building Services released a statement on the arrests today.

"In May of 2010 a manager for Valley View Building Services was detained on the Fort Huachuca military base for a baseless charge made by a disgruntled employee," explained Joel Votaw, owner of the company. "This charge has since been dropped. During that investigation, it came to light that he was working in the United States illegally, even though he presented a valid AZ drivers license and social security card. He was allowed on base (entering through the main gate and having to present his ID each time) during the entire duration of this 3 month long project."

Votaw said his company fired the manager immediately and that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement began a company-wide investigation into Valley View's hiring practices. He said today's raid was for ID theft issues and not due to violation of the employer sanction law.

Most of the company's workforce is Hispanic, according to news reports.

Votaw said he has always verified identification of its employees through E-Verify, strictly complying with local, state and federal rules.

"Today was the first time we had received any notice that there were more problems. We support the detaining of the four people who were identified as using some other identity and we also support the detaining of the one individual that has a misdemeanor warrant out for his arrest," he wrote. "These crimes are serious and need to be dealt with."

Votaw continues, "We are dealing with real people and real problems that deserve to be handled respectfully and justly. If we error, let us err on the side of compassion, but let us do what is required of us both morally and constitutionally. Let us protect our country, while also realizing that we were all immigrants at one time."

According to various reports, this is hardly the first time illegal aliens have accessed the military installation.

Retired Army officer T.J. Woodward lives in the area. In a May commentary posted on American Thinker, he wrote that he spotted an ad in a Fort Huachuca newspaper asking for volunteers to clean up trash and supplies left on the Army post by illegal aliens.

"It asked for volunteers to assist in cleaning up 'dumps' on posts where the illegals would drop their supplies used to cross the border and change clothing," Woodward wrote. "They do this in order to blend in and not look like they just spent a day or two crossing the border in the dust and heat of southern Arizona."

He added, "The most frightening part of this is that Fort Huachuca is the U.S. Army Intelligence Center, where the Army trains its intelligence soldiers – analysts, interrogators, radio intercept specialists and counterintelligence agents – for operations overseas. If we can't secure the fort we use to train our intelligence soldiers, how can we secure anything else?"

In 2007, the Washington Times reported Fort Huachuca changed security measures "after sources warned that possibly 60 Afghan and Iraqi terrorists were to be smuggled into the U.S. through underground tunnels with high-powered weapons to attack the Arizona Army base."

An FBI advisory stated, "A portion of the operatives were in the United States, with the remainder not yet in the United States. The Afghanis and Iraqis shaved their beards so as not to appear to be Middle Easterners."

According to the report, illegal aliens from the Middle East paid Mexican drug lords $20,000 "or the equivalent in weapons" for smuggling them and their weapons through the tunnels.

One source who spoke with DEA intelligence agents said the weapons included two Milan anti-tank missiles, Soviet-made surface-to-air missiles, grenade launchers, long guns and handguns.

The Tucson Weekly reported one rancher just west of Fort Huachuca answered his door in 2004 when a female illegal alien asked to use his phone.

According to the report, the call was to Libya.

As WND recently reported, thousands of illegal aliens apprehended along the 2,000 mile border stretching through California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas aren't even from Mexico. Many are citizens of countries that are known sponsors of terrorism, including Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Syria and Iran.

Arpaio's crime sweep took place just before a federal judge blocked some of the toughest provisions in Arizona's illegal immigration law, S.B. 1070.

Two members of well-known families shot in Juárez

Adriana Gómez Licón / El Paso Times

Two members of prominent borderland families were killed yesterday in Juárez.

Roberto Urrea Caraveo, 37, and Fernando Alberto Garc*a Urrutia, 39, were shot dead outside a plaza in the Country Club neighborhood.

Urrea's mother, Rosario Caraveo, is from an affluent family of bankers in Juárez. He was the nephew of a well-known women's rights advocate Vicky Caraveo. Urrea, a graphic designer, was also the son of Roberto Urrea Loreto, who was president of the maquiladora association in the late 1990s, director of corporate at Rio Grande Travel Centers and more recently a manager at the Las Cruces Sun News.

Chihuahua state police reported 12 people died Wednesday in Juárez. About 250 people have been killed in the month of July, and about 1,650 people this year.

Mexican Drug Cartel Allegedly Puts a 1Million Dollar Price on Arizona Sheriff's Head

$1M offered for Arpaio, $1K to join cartel

PHOENIX - He's been at the center of the discussions and controversies surrounding illegal immigration enforcement in Arizona for quite a while.

On the day parts of Arizona's immigration law, SB 1070, went into effect, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is in the news for another reason: there's a price on his head - allegedly offered by a Mexican drug cartel.

The audio message in Spanish is a bit garbled, but the text is clear.

"It's offering a million dollars for Sheriff Joe Arpaio's head and offering a thousand dollars for anyone who wants to join the Mexican cartel."

Arizona Sheriff Joe's head: Mexican drug cartel offers $1M bounty for Arpaio (video)

July 30, 5:03 AMDallas Political Buzz ExaminerDevonia Smith

Get alerts when there is a new article from the Dallas Political Buzz Examiner. Read Examiner.com's terms of use.

A chilling audio tape with text, circulating by e-mail, has been reported that puts a million dollar price on conservative hero, Sheriff Joe Arpaio's head. Is it a coincidence that this was reported on the same day that Arizona's immigration law, SB 1070, became effective?

Though the SB 1070 law that has gone into effect is a gutted version of the real bill, yesterday was also the day that Governor Brewer filed an expedited appeal, vowing to fight all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. Yesterday was also the day that busloads of imported protesters from California chained themselves outside Sheriff Arpaio's jail.

Still, there are those who think the real solution isn't immigration reform or securing the border. Some feel certain the fact that Arizona is trying to block the drug highway from Mexico, thus cutting off the drug cartel's route to supply drugs to the United States is the primary reason that the drug cartel is allegedly out to eliminate Sheriff Joe. Therefore, they think the solution is to legalize drugs.

In the message, $1M reward is placed on Arpaio's head, and for mafia cartel recruiting purposes, another $1K to join the cartel.

The information about the tape was provided by a man, frightened enought to request anonymity, who was disgusted when his wife showed him the tape and followed up by reporting it to the sheriff's office. Death threats aren't uncommon for law enforcement officers who battle the lawlessness of border states, woefully overwhelmed and understaffed, and Sheriff Joe has had more than a few. This threat is considered real and credible, especially because of its timing.

It is believed this message originated in Mexico. The tape provides an international phone number and investigators are trying to trace the text message.

Ms. Allen from the Sheriff's office is "sure he's concerned... for his family more than anything else."

National Guard to miss Aug. 1 deadline at Arizona border

    by Dennis Wagner - Jul. 29, 2010 12:00 AM
    The Arizona Republic

An Arizona National Guard spokesman said troops will not begin bolstering security along the Arizona border this Sunday, despite what was announced by the Departments of Homeland Security and Defense 10 days ago. "We won't have any units deployed by August 1," said Lt. Valentine Castillo, a public-affairs officer. "We don't yet know when troops will actually arrive."

On July 19, Homeland Security issued a news release headlined, "Obama administration announces Aug. 1 National Guard deployment to support federal law enforcement along the Southwest border."

At the same time, in a commentary written for The Arizona Republic, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano wrote that deployment of troops - including 524 assigned to Arizona - "will begin on August 1 to coincide with the (Homeland Security) resources being surged to the Arizona border." Napolitano said the surge is to include reassignment of hundreds of Border Patrol agents and port inspectors to Arizona, along with aircraft and other technology.

The Arizona Republic and media nationwide published stories announcing the National Guard deployment date based on those representations, which came after months of demands by politicians in Washington and in border states who contend that federal agents on the border need military reinforcements.

Homeland Security referred questions about the announcements and the timing of deployment to the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Va.
Jack Harrison, a spokesman there, said announcements earlier this month were "over-interpreted. . . . We've said all along that there's a ramp-up time. . . . In a general sense, Guard members will begin the process of receiving required training on or about the first of August."

Castillo said Sunday would be the first date when soldiers might arrive on the border. But that will not happen in Arizona, he said, because the National Guard here is still seeking, screening and training volunteers.

"We have until the end of September to fill the 524 slots," Castillo said.

"They're giving us August 1 as the first day we can put troops on the border. But we're not going to be able to."

Castillo said soldiers and airmen will have to go through weeks of preparation before they can be placed in the field, where they are expected to take on jobs in border surveillance and intelligence.

When the processing is completed, he said, some will work as intelligence analysts using computers linked to surveillance equipment, and some will be lookouts at concealed outposts along the border.

"We don't have law-enforcement authority to detain," he said. "We'll be there as extra eyes and ears."

He started his motion picture career as Mathew Broderick’s dance double in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” As an actor, he also appeared in commercials, the TV series “Tour of Duty” and “Growing Pains,” the films “Twice Dead,” “84 Charlie Mopic” and the HBO pilot, “Lessons Learned.”

While making his living as a Hollywood stuntman riding bulls on the rodeo circuit, Burgard made his directorial debut on the cult horror film “The Ruining,” which featured Wings Hauser and Patrick Warburton. The film was picked up and distributed by Troma.

After starting Little Bonanza Productions with his wife, Lisa, in 2002, he later partnered with producer Jennifer Champagne and editor Todd Sheridan Perry to create "Border," an investigative documentary on the state of our southern border with Mexico.

Dissatisfied with second-hand media coverage, Burgard and his camera team journeyed down to the U.S. Mexican border and, over a period of several months, interviewed Border Patrol agents, illegal immigrants, Minutemen, politicians, representatives of the ACLU and local ranchers to make a realistic assessment of just how porous our border had become.

The result is a fascinating and startling look into the world of illegal immigration, and, according to the New York Times, “a terrifying glimpse of…horrors too numerous to mention.” As Scott Gordon mentioned in The Onion’s AV Club, “Maybe it will take people like Chris Burgard to redeem the American political documentary.”

The Border: A Dirty War (Part 1)

Local dogs were the first to see them. Their frantic barks were easy to translate, “My loved ones live here! Stay away!”

It was hard not to feel bad for the locals. They live in fear from the enemy every night. They say the first casualties of war are the civilians. This war is no different.

There have been over 22,700 deaths in this war since December 2006: civilians and combatants. Six thousand six hundred people died in 2008, alone. That is far more than the US fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The enemy uses every terror means at their disposal: beheadings, dismemberment, feeding live captured prisoners to lions, slowly lowering live victims into tanker trucks filled with acid and worse. These tactics are extremely effective. There are no rules in this war. The targeted kidnapping of children and family members is now Standard Operating Procedure. The enemy has even twisted religion into a cult membership tailored to its warriors and assassins.

After leaving the war zone, I would later experience how hard it was not to feel guilty. The locals over in that compound are good people. Besides the dogs, they are on their own. Once this mission was over, I could go home.

Not so for them, this was home.

The enemy doesn’t like dogs. We had been alerted to and had been tracking their new routes in country by following a trail of recently killed canines. Every time the enemy would plan a new route, they would send their scouts ahead to take out any detection systems: in this case, the dogs.

Killing family pets was the least of the cruelty that I would see in my months in this sector: women left damaged and scarred by the atrocities acted upon them in the wilderness, their undergarments hung over tree branches as trophies for the enemy to brag about; the countless bodies, victims of the enemy who press the civilians into service; the terrain, the elements and especially the hopelessness of their existence in their own stolen, corrupted country.

They had been flocking into this region for years; lately, in record numbers.

Millions of them. Some called them immigrants, some called them criminals.

Some of them are both. I came to know them simply as: refugees.

This is a long war. As long as the enemy rules in their country and throughout the region, I do not see an end in sight.

The plight of the refugees creates not only sadness and compassion, but economic hardships, social and cultural divisions that threaten to tear apart the host nation.

The barking intensified. From a quarter of a mile away, I checked to make sure my weapon was clear. I didn’t want use it. We came here to gather intell. But if the enemy fired first, I wanted to be the one to go home to my family. I silently thanked those dogs for giving us the heads up that the enemy had crossed the line. Then I asked God to keep us safe.

I love dogs. In the bush, in the dirt, in the middle of the night, if you asked me to choose between a good pair of night vision goggles and a good dog, I would take the dog every time. We didn’t have good night vision goggles, just a gen two scope. But even if we did, night vision can’t see through trees, berms or around corners. A dog’s nose and ears can. At that moment I was really missing my dog: Scout. The two nights previous he had found the enemy more than 200 yards out. A silent lifting and tilting of his head, and all I had to do was sight between his ears. Sooner or later their scouts would come into our perimeter.

Many of the scouts were just beaters. They would hump a ruck through the bush, ignoring any kind of noise discipline. But some of them were simply outstanding. The enemy often recruits indigenous people from the interior for just such skills. The night before, I listened as this bush rat patiently took over half an hour to crawl 40 yards to freedom. He would match his movements to any sound camouflage opportunity that arose. As a distant vehicle would approach he would move. The louder the noise, the more ground he would cover. As soon as the vehicle passed, he would hunker down until the next one.

The plan had been to let the scout pass us, seemingly undetected. Once he radioed back that the route was clear, the main body of infiltrators would move up and we would film them.

That was the plan. The reality had been different. As the scout was about to move over our position, Scout had let out a low growl. In the thick brush the enemy couldn’t see us, but Scout’s growl had compromised our position.

The enemy scout hit the dirt and patiently low crawled away. The rest of his squad never appeared.

So tonight, I had left Scout back at basecamp. In Iraq the Marines use German Shepherds and Dobermans. In this arena, Scout has an advantage over them. When you come across refugees in need of food, water or first aid, an orange Queensland heeler is much less threatening. After the abuse heaped upon the refugees by the enemy in the desert, they are fragile.

Care must be used when aiding them.

Just as it was in Nazi Germany and Tojo Japan, once the enemy has been defeated, the refugees may return home to rebuild in freedom and prosperity. If America could win this war, that could happen again.

I would have felt more confident with the whole team on line. The enemy held the high ground. They had eyes in the hills. They had satellite communications. We didn’t. We were in a dead zone, with no means to call for back up. If the proverbial fertilizer hit the fan, we were on our own.

The distant barking faded. The enemy had moved beyond the compound and was nearing our position. This wasn’t the only group that we would come into contact with that night. A group of 29 refugees had trekked directly through our position. Their scout halted the column as he went on alone to scan the wash down the trail. Although my language skills are limited, I listened as they whispered about the cold, the already sore spots from their packs, the soreness in their arms from the loads of water they carried. This is rough country and it was already taking its toll on them. As they dropped some of their gear for a brief rest, I prayed that they wouldn’t step on me.

Gunny Thurman had once coached me: “If you are setting up in a tree, you be that tree. You believe with your entire will and every cell in your body that you are part of that tree and the enemy can walk right up to you, look straight at you, and he will never see you.” I hoped he was right. Problem was, at that moment I didn’t even have a real tree, more like a bush. “Be the bush….be the bush….” kept repeating in my brain. I held my ribs as tight as I could with my left arm and tried to breath without expanding my rib cage. Forget flat on the ground, I was desperately willing my legs to sink beneath the sand.

That group picked up their gear and moved on as soon as the scout determined that the wash was clear. I wondered how many of the women in that column would ever make it to trail’s end.

This squad was better. They were almost to the trees before we heard them. That was outstanding noise discipline. The soldier on point was very good. At 27 yards he spotted the red pinhead sized dot from my spotting scope and slammed to a halt. I quickly shut it down.

Funny the thoughts that run through your head. My first was, “Wow. He is a pretty good dresser. His hat matches his coat, which matches his pants, which really sort of coordinate well with his sidearm and all the equipment that he has slung on his web gear.” A split second of silent brain laughter moved me into my second thought…. “These guys do slapstick better than the three stooges…” Boom, boom, boom. The three shorter men behind the leader stacked up and ran into each other with his abrupt halt.

Looking back at the tape later it was easy to see why. Their heavy loads had them bent over looking at the ground, instead of the man in front of them. Also, by watching the ground and stepping in the same prints of the man in front of them, the enemy made it much more difficult for us to accurately determine their numbers when we were tracking them.

The thermo cam still hadn’t come on line. You can bet your butt I was thoroughly impressed as the squad leader halted his column, and with only hand signals and a few whispered orders, he divided his men into two groups. He sent the first one around our right flank and up a low hill.

Our thermo came up just as his second in command brought up the rear and led the remainder of the squad to link up with the first.
These men were only yards away, full packs and equipment and we barely heard squat.

Usually when surprised, you will hear tuna cans or water jugs clinking together as the infiltrators didi mau away. Not these guys. There wasn’t a buckle jingle or cracking twig between them. These guys were well trained pros. This was a very efficient mule train moving contraband in country at will.

We filmed the last of them as they picked up a higher trail around our position. I was very concerned that they would circle back behind us. I doubt they knew that there were only three of us. They continued on North.

As we came out of the bush the next morning we discovered that same night, not far from us, an infiltrator been shot and badly beaten. Left in the bush to die, I have always wondered if he had been one of the men we had filmed.

The last words of advice that Border Patrol had given us before we entered the Buenos Aires Animal Preserve was: “If you see guys with uniforms and automatic weapons, run the fuck away, because they aren’t ours.”

    Those agents were dead right.

As I drove back to California, I got a phone call from the acting Border Patrol Tucson Sector chief asking me if I could give them a copy of the footage that we shot. He thought that it might save lives of new agents if they used it in the academy. I said absolutely. In fact we had just dropped a DVD of raw footage off at the BP sector station.

DHS and the Border Patrol Public Information Office leadership did not want us going into that dead zone. Rank and file agents went under the radar and sent the word out on the wire to keep an eye out for us anyway. I will always be grateful. That wasn’t the first time I saw field agents bucking Washington. While these heroic men and women face a superiorly armed enemy force from the South, they must constantly guard their rear from the bureaucrats and activists in Washington and the media.

A few minutes later I got a phone call from a federal agent on behalf of the Buenos Aires Animal Preserve, informing me that I had broken federal law by filming without the proper permit. I was told that if I ever came back I could be arrested and have my camera equipment confiscated.

That was my first firsthand experience with elements in the Federal government that are more focused on covering up the dangers of the border, than fixing them.

In July of 2005 I started to make BORDER, a film that I had hoped would document an important time in US history. If for no other reason, my wife and I wanted to have the truth on record for our kids. In my wildest dreams I never thought that in October of 2005 I would film foreign troops entering our country at will.

About the same time, on a ranch that we had just left in South Texas, 21 armed soldiers in black battle dress uniforms, the first three wearing night vision goggles, were observed escorting 6 civilians through the bush. That ranch is 69 miles north of the border. Who were these civilians that they afforded such protection? Where are they now?

Five months after that night Texas DPS and Hudspeth Co. Sheriff’s deputies ran into Mexican troops and Humvees on our side of the Rio Grande. The drug laden SUVs tried to escape across the river and get back into Mexico.

One made it. One got stuck.

Mexican troops deployed into the dense cover of the riverbank salt cedars and tried to outflank the US law enforcement personnel, as drug cartel members unloaded narcotics from, and then burned the SUV. The Federal officers were ordered out of the area. The agents wanted to stay, but the orders from higher up said no.

A similar situation had happened in Hudspeth Co. in November of 2005. When Sheriff Arvin West reported the confrontation with Mexican Military troops to the US Federal government, he was told that the incident never happened. Instead of arming his deputies with bigger guns, he bought them video cameras. When the next confrontation happened, they filmed the entire event. This time the Federal government responded very quickly. The FBI called and wanted to confiscate every tape. Sheriff West told them to go to hell, he was going to the media.

Fifteen months after we filmed our incursions in Arizona, a unit of Tennessee National Guardsmen were deployed on the same ground. This time when foreign military troops came into the US positions, the US troops were ordered to fall back, observe and report. They did.

The foreign troops probed further and tried to outflank the US troops.

Again the US troops were ordered to fall back, observe and report. They did, and again the opposing force advanced further until Border Patrol air support came on scene and the foreign soldiers retreated back into Mexico.

We are the United States of America. We have the strongest military in the
world. These things aren’t supposed to happen, not on American soil, but they do. Often.

Like it or not, this is a war.

I was invited to Washington to screen BORDER for the House and the Senate. We showed them the reality of the border. We explained the reality of the coming war. Nothing happened. No wait, check that:

Rep. Virgil Goode (R. -VA), the leader whom had invited us to screen it for the House, lost his bid for re- election. He was villified by liberal and progressive critics calling him: “Nativist. Xenophobe. Fear Monger.”

Congressman Goode had stood up and said that if we didn’t act, America’s sovereignty would be in danger. Time would prove him correct.

Cartel members have long been bragging and arrogantly performing as if the Arizona territory south of Highway 8 was not American territory, but cartel territory. When the federal Government closed 3500 acres of the Buenos Aires Animal Preserve to Americans, and Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeau also admitted that he no longer has operational control over large parts of his county, the cartel’s claims have been confirmed.

This is war and the Americans are losing.

Like so many of their brother border county Sheriff’s, Pinal County Sheriff’s wear body armor and carry the same weapons as our frontline marines and soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Like their Texas DPS air brethren, Pinal County choppers have taken small arms ground fire. When Deputy Purnoll was ambushed by five drug cartel members, he took AK-47 rounds to the torso, but survived.

As I said, this is war.

With any war, there is sympathy for the refugees. Like any war there are the hoopleheads, sympathizers, traitors and saboteurs.

However in this war, the American people have not had the awakening event that Pearl Harbor and 911 provided. There has been no galvanizing of the American Spirit. This may not have been by chance. Our enemies long ago learned that there is no greater force on the planet than the united will of the American people.

The enemy that we now face is smart. His profits soar above Haliburton’s.

The enemy now recruits assassins and soldiers from America’s own middle schools and high schools. Those recruits that lack the talent for killing may be used in surveillance, record keeping, communications or distribution.

Talented youths are often ear marked for tuition free rides to law school.

NAFTA has provided a plethora of vulnerabilities for young attorneys to exploit.

This is war on a multitude of battlefields.

Do not be misled. The enemy cares nothing for immigration. To them the wave of humanity is simply a means to greater profits. It serves as camouflage for narcotic shipments and an aid to render the cries of border law enforcement impotent.

The Obama administration will tell you that 95% of all Mexican drug cartel weapons come from retail stores and gun shows in the United States. If only the government could restrict second amendment rights in the US then all the cartel violence would go away.

This is false information. This information was proven false over a year ago yet this administration repeats it over and over again, hoping that the standard mantra will result in millions of Americans accepting it as truth.

    This is propaganda.

Perhaps if instead of threatening to arrest a taxpaying, camera carrying US citizen, the American government would have said: “Wow, this is wrong.

Let’s arrest the guys with the uniforms, guns and contraband assaulting into the country….” then maybe Arizona Rancher Rob Krenz would still be alive.

Perhaps if the Tennessee National Guard troops would have been allowed to stand their ground and defend this territory, then we would not have just ceded it to a foreign military power.

Perhaps if the Federal Government of the United States would only enforce her own laws, then Arizona might not be forced to create new ones.

This is war and America is losing. On an administrative level, she has refused to protect her citizens. The border ranchers have telling us this for many years. The Federal Government’s number one duty is to protect her citizens.

She has broken the covenant with her people. President Obama has chosen not to secure the border for the sake of power. He wants amnesty. The border security card is the only one he holds.

As in any war the only acceptable goal must be victory. Whenever any leader, politician, bureaucrat, organizer, union representative, businessman or activist acts in opposition to that goal, then their motives (and income) must be thoroughly examined.

This is supposed to be the job of a free press, but if the honor and integrity of that profession have gone the way of the dinosaurs, then it is the God given responsibility of every free American citizen to challenge them.

The violence will get worse. More people are going to die. More innocents will suffer.

This is a dirty war. The enemy is not only at the gates, the enemy moves among us.

It is here and now that we must make a stand and we must never, never, never, never give up.

The border remains a military zone. We remain a hunted people. Now you think you have a destiny to fulfill in the land that historically has been ours for forty thousand years. And we’re a new Mestizo nation. And they want us to discuss civil rights. Civil rights. What law made by white men to oppress all of us of color, female and male. This is our homeland. We cannot – we will not- and we must not be made illegal in our own homeland. We are not immigrants that came from another country to another country. We are migrants, free to travel the length and breadth of the Americas because we belong here. We are millions. We just have to survive. We have an aging white America. They are not making babies. They are dying. It’s a matter of time. The explosion is in our population.“
Professor Angel Gutierrez, University of Texas at Arlington, founder of La Raza Unida Party; 1995
Here are a couple of little known quotes on immigration from another point of view.

“In recent years a new International System has been developing, oriented toward the establishment of norms and principles of universal jurisdiction, above national sovereignty, in the areas of what is called the New Agenda…we have to confront ….. what I dare to call the Anglo-Saxon prejudice against the establishment of supra-national organizations.” — Mexican President Vicente Fox Club XXI, Hotel Eurobuilding, Madrid, Spain 5/16/02
“I have proudly affirmed that the Mexican nation extends beyond the territory enclosed by its borders and that Mexican migrants are an important – a very important – part of this.” –Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo, Chicago on July 23, 1997
“The effort to unite the economies of the Americas into a single free-trade area began at the Summit of the Americas which was held in December 1994 in Miami. The heads of state and government of the 34 democracies in the region agreed to construct the Free Trade Areas of the Americas (FTAA) in which barriers to trade and investment will be progressively eliminated. They agreed to complete negotiations towards this agreement by the year 2005 and to achieve substantial progress toward building the FTAA by 2000.”So begins the history of what President George W. Bush called “The Century of the Americas” (Summit of the Americas, 1994).
Lets now consider some of the following goals and objectives of the FTAA as taken from their website:
Share best practices and technologies with respect to increasing citizen participation in the electoral process, including voter education, the modernization and simplification of voter registration…” [remember motor-voter and the ubiquitous early vote by mail]
Support initiatives designed to strengthen linkages among migrant communities abroad and their places of origin and promote cooperative mechanisms that simplify and speed up the transfer of migrant remittances to their country of origin. [do you get the idea that because Mexico is bankrupt and ungovernable, remittances from the U.S. are about all that's keeping that country stable?]
Support programs of cooperation in immigration procedures for cross-border labor markets and the migration of workers, both in countries of origin and destination, as a means to enhance economic growth in full cognizance of the role that cooperation in education and training can play in mitigating any adverse consequences of the movement of human capital from smaller and less developed states into … [I think you get the idea where that one goes]
Strive to ensure that migrants have access to basic social services, consistent with each country’s internal legal framework… [now you know why AHCCCS is subsidized by the Federal government to some extent]
In Mexico’s official “National Plan of Development 2001-2006″ specific strategies for expanding the nation’s political reach far beyond the U.S. / Mexico border are outlined. Through out the lengthy document, globalization is frequently referenced, however again, the devil’s in the details. To achieve their national plan, the government of Mexico reliles on those of its peoples migrating into the United States who, in 2002 sent back to Mexico over $14 billion dollars of hard U.S. currency. These remittances as of 2006/07 were Mexico’s #1 source of foreign capital, replacing tourism and oil. This of course isn’t counting drug money pouring into that country.

In 2001 the Mexican National Congress established dual citizenship for all Mexican national living abroad, legal or otherwise. In the words of Mexican Congressman Manuel de la Cruz, an American citizen elected to the Mexican National Congress in 2002 and residing in California, “There are 23 million Mexicans in the U.S. that need a voice in Mexico.” (Washington Times, Ken Bensinger)

In a 2000 FoxNews interview, Mexican President Vicente Fox made Mexico’s intentions crystal clear:
“I’m talking about a community of North America, an integrated agreement of Canada, the United States, and Mexico in the long term, 20, 30, 40 years from now. And this means that some of the steps we can take are, for instance, to agree that in five years we will make this convergence on economic variables. That may mean in 10 years we can open up that border when we have reduced the gap in salaries and income.”
Now does it all make more sense? Now do you have an idea why the Obama Administration is suing the State of Arizona? Now do you know why our Southern Border is open and our Federal government has no intention of doing anything unless they achieve an Amnesty Program?

And why John McCain is needed back in the U.S. Senate? Is it beginning to make some sense? Its not about race and its not about human rights – its about globalism and the Free Trade Area of the Americas.

    Letter from a border war

PHOENIX — The most dangerous place in Arizona right now, the day after a federal judge knocked down the key parts of SB 1070, the state’s proposed anti-illegal immigration bill, is between Joe Arpaio and a camera. Arpaio, the 78-year-old sheriff of Maricopa County (population 3.9 million) has cultivated a reputation for himself as the last true lawman of the West.

He’s written two books, the last called “Joe’s Law: America’s Toughest Sheriff Takes on Illegal Immigration, Drugs, and Everything Else That Threatens America.” He has reintroduced chain gangs. He houses convicts in “Tent City,” where inmates remain exposed to the elements 365 days a year.

Mostly, though, he has become a national figure due to his campaign against illegal immigrants and his disdain for what he believes are weak federal policies in enforcing regulation and deportation.

So this past Thursday, as the temperature hit 105 degrees (and despite what you may have heard about Arizona, it’s not a dry heat), Arpaio is holding two press conferences in the parking lot outside his facility in Phoenix. The first is at noon, a quick 15-minute briefing. Sheriff Joe, as he is known, stands behind a cheap brown podium and in front of a huge tractor-trailer, painted white with red lettering. It reads, “CALL 602-876-4154 602-876-4154 WITH ANY INFO/TIPS ON ILLEGAL ALIENS.”

Bomb Thrown at U.S.-Mexico Border Bridge

    Caracas,
    Monday
    August 2,2010

MONTERREY, Mexico – Members of an organized crime group threw a bomb at one of the bridges connecting Nuevo Laredo, a city in the northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, to the United States, but no injuries or damage have been reported, officials said.

The attack occurred Saturday at the main border crossing linking the Mexican city to Laredo, Texas, the Nuevo Laredo city government said in a statement posted on an official Web site.

“An explosion was reported in the area around International Bridge One. It is being investigated,” the city government said.

The blast occurred on the access ramp to the international crossing, officials said.

The attack occurred just hours after unidentified individuals threw a grenade from a moving vehicle at the Televisa facility in Nuevo Laredo.

No one was injured in the attack on the television station, but two vehicles were damaged, Televisa’s general manager in Nuevo Laredo, Eduardo Martinez, said.

The grenade landed in the building’s entrance and shrapnel damaged an SUV and an employee’s car.

The blast also shattered the glass panels of the main entrance door.

A grenade was thrown at a police station earlier this weekend in the northern city of Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo Leon state, but it failed to explode.

An unidentified individual riding in a vehicle threw the grenade at the police station around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Different streets in the metropolitan area were blocked around the same time.

Tamaulipas and neighboring Nuevo Leon have been dealing with a wave of violence unleashed by drug traffickers battling for control of smuggling routes into the United States.

The violence has intensified in the two border states since the appearance in February in Monterrey of giant banners heralding an alliance of the Gulf, Sinaloa and La Familia Michoacana drug cartels against Los Zetas, a band of Mexican special forces deserters turned hired guns.

After several years as the armed wing of the Gulf cartel, Los Zetas went into the drug business on their own account and now control several lucrative territories.

The cartels arrayed against Los Zetas blame the group’s involvement in kidnappings, armed robbery and extortion for discrediting “true drug traffickers” in the eyes of ordinary Mexicans willing to tolerate the illicit trade as long as the gangs stuck to their own unwritten rule against harming innocents.

Arizona Sheriff: ‘Our Own Government Has Become Our Enemy’
    Monday, August 02, 2010

By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer

Pinal County (Ariz.) Sheriff Paul Babeu
(Correction: As initially posted, this story inaccurately said that Pinal County was contiguous with the Mexican border. It is in southern Arizona, but not on the border.)

    (CNSNews.com)
    – Pinal County (Ariz.) Sheriff Paul Babeu is hopping mad at the federal government.

Babeu told CNSNews.com that rather than help law enforcement in Arizona stop the hundreds of thousands of people who come into the United States illegally, the federal government is targeting the state and its law enforcement personnel.

“What’s very troubling is the fact that at a time when we in law enforcement and our state need help from the federal government, instead of sending help they put up billboard-size signs warning our citizens to stay out of the desert in my county because of dangerous drug and human smuggling and weapons and bandits and all these other things and then, behind that, they drag us into court with the ACLU,” Babeu said.

The sheriff was referring to the law suits filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the U.S. Department of Justice challenging the state’s new immigration law.

“So who has partnered with the ACLU?” Babeu said in a telephone interview with CNSNews.com. “It’s the president and (Attorney General) Eric Holder himself. And that’s simply outrageous.”

Last week, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton placed a temporary injunction on portions of the bill that allowed law enforcement personnel during the course of a criminal investigation who have probable cause to think an individual is in the country illegally to check immigration status. The state of Arizona filed an appeal on Thursday with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

“Our own government has become our enemy and is taking us to court at a time when we need help,” Babeu said.

Babeu and Sheriff Larry Dever of Cochise County Ariz., spoke by phone with CNSNews.com last week about the May 17 ACLU class-action lawsuit, which charges the law uses racial profiling and named the county attorneys and sheriffs in all 15 Arizona counties as defendants. The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit on July 6, charging the Arizona law preempted the federal government’s sole right to enforce immigration law.

“If the president would do his job and secure the border; send 3,000 armed soldiers to the Arizona border and stop the illegal immigration and the drug smuggling and the violence, we wouldn’t even be in this position and where we’re forced to take matters into our own hands,” Babeu said.

Dever said the federal government’s failure to secure the border and its current thwarting of Arizona’s effort to control illegal immigration within its borders has implications for the entire country.

“The bigger picture is while what’s going on in Arizona is critically important, what comes out of this and happens here will affect our entire nation in terms of our ability to protect our citizenry from a very serious homeland security threat,” Dever said. “People who are coming across the border in my county aren’t staying there. They’re going everywhere USA and a lot of them are bad, bad people.”

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), about 250,000 people were detained in Arizona in the last 12 months for being in the country illegally. Babeu said that that number only reflects the number of people detained and that thousands more enter the country illegally each year.

The CBP also reports that 17 percent of those detained already have a criminal record in the United States.

Both Babeu and Dever said they want to remain involved in the legal battle over the law, which many experts predict will end up being decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dever has hired an independent attorney to represent him in the ACLU case and his attorney has already filed a motion of intervention in the DOJ lawsuit so the “(Dever) will have a seat at the table.”

A Web site also has been launched by the non-profit, Iowa-based Legacy Foundation to raise money for the Babeu’s and Dever’s legal defense.

Both men said they believe the outcome of the case has national significance.“For us, this is a public safety matter and a national security threat,” Babeu said.

UPDATE: Story is now 100% confirmed by second source within the Laredo Police Department

The bloodbath continues along our southern border and now word is coming in that Los Zetas, the highly trained killers formerly with the Gulf Cartel, have crossed into the United States and taken over at least two ranches in the Laredo, Texas area. I am receiving word that the owners of the ranches have evacuated without being harmed.

Founder of the San Diego Minutemen Jeff Schwilk tipped me off to this story and passes along the following information on the location. The ranches are said to be "near Mines Rd. and Minerales Annex Rd about 10 miles NW of I-35".

Update - Statement from Mr. Schwilk)

I can personally vouch that this info came in late last night from a reliable police source inside the Laredo PD. There is currently a standoff between the unknown size Zeta forces and U.S. Border Patrol and local law enforcement on two ranches on our side of the Rio Grande. The source tells us he considers this an "act of war" and that the military is needed on the border now!

Whether it is lone members or squads is not certain.

Anonymous sources in law enforcement in the Laredo area tonight have passed on word that US law enforcement agencies are in the area and are weighing their options regarding the ranches. The media has been silent on this incident and some law enforcement in the area says that they are furious that the media is not reporting the whole story of the continued violence along the border. Their frustrations are understandable because keeping the truth suppressed continues to hamper law enforcement from receiving the true support they need along the border.

The ranch assaults come on the heels of attacks in Nuevo Laredo that shut the city down as a gun-battle raged in the streets. Los Zetas blocked off intersections with vehicles and used fragmentation grenades to attack Mexican law enforcement. In the end 12 were killed and 21 injured in the assaults. Citizens in the area were told to stay in their homes and bullets whizzed all around.

    Cypress Times

The U.S. Consulate in Nuevo Laredo had posted warnings on its website hours before the gunfire was reported by Texas citizens, “We have received credible reports of widespread violence occurring now between narcotics-trafficking organizations and the Mexican army in Nuevo Laredo.”

The U.S. Consulate went on to say, “The consulate confirmed that fragmentation grenades were used in the attacks and that suspected drug-gang members had blocked several roads, adding that it advised ‘all U.S. citizens in Nuevo Laredo to remain indoors until the security situation improves.’”

US Citizens in Laredo called 911 after hearing gunfire and explosions just across the border. Laredo police spokesman Joe Baeza deflected the concerns of citizens with what I see as utter contempt. He said there was no spillover violence onto the US side and "We were getting reports from people who live on the river's edge that they could hear gunfire and explosions from the Mexico side," Baeza said, "We didn't have any incidents on the American side. It's hard for people to understand who don't live here ... They're not Vikings, they're not going to invade us, it doesn't work that way."

This was said just a day before the reported breaking news on the ranches being taken above.

Violence has been on the rise along the border. In April 2010 a Border Patrol agent in Laredo shot and killed an lllegal alien drug smuggler near the Rio Grande

The Los Zetas are highly trained killers initially trained by United States Special Operations forces to combat the drug cartes within Mexico. As the drug war heated up the Zetas saw more money in working for the cartels and joined up with the Gulf Cartel.

In March, 2010 there was a fracture between the Los Zetas and the Gulf Cartel when a Zetas leader was said to have been assassinated by the Gulf Cartel. They demanded that the killer be turned over to them. When the Gulf Cartel refused the Zetas captured 16 Gulf Cartel members.

Since March Los Zetas abandoned their stronghold in Reynosa and moved to Nuevo Laredo, just across from the border with Laredo, Texas. There are estimated to be over 1,000 Zeta members there.

Additional Source Reporting on Laredo Siege -

    AllVoices.com reports the following -

In what could be deemed an act of war against the sovereign borders of the United States, Mexican drug cartels have seized control of at least two American ranches inside the U.S. territory near Laredo, Texas.

Two sources inside the Laredo Police Department confirmed the incident is unfolding and they would continue to coordinate with U.S. Border Patrol today. “We consider this an act of war,” said one police officer on the ground near the scene. There is a news blackout of this incident at this time and the sources inside Laredo PD spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Word broke late last night that Laredo police have requested help from the federal government regarding the incursion by the Los Zetas. It appears that the ranch owners have escaped without incident but their ranches remain in the hands of the blood thirsty cartels.

Laredo Border Patrol is conducting aerial surveillance over the ranches to determine the best way to regain control of the U.S. ranches, according to the Laredo Police department.

Further reading says it isn't true and one more person says "The ranches were already involved" with the Los Zetas.

    I'm confused.

    Rick,
I had seen this story posted over on ARFCOM. A couple people did some legwork and it looks like it is still up in the air but leaning toward false. Didn't want to post it here myself since it was questionable.
