Default MGM to Bring Back Red Dawn and RoboCop

MGM to Bring Back Red Dawn and RoboCop
MGM said at the Cannes Film Festival that Red Dawn, John Milius' 1984 movie about a group of American rebels fighting Soviet forces, is a candidate for a remake, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The studio's Harry Sloan and Mary Parent also confirmed that 1987's RoboCop could resurface in a new version.
Wooohooo!! Please, please, PLEASE don't let these suck! Especially Red Dawn!

I will say that with word of these movies being done and now a new Beverly Hills Cop in the works, it just proves how devoid of new ideas and creativity Hollywood is. They are now having to rely on past massive successes to continue their current success (though from what I've heard of the recent Indy movie, that is debatable). Now, this isn't necessarily a bad thing as I really like all of the previously mentioned movies (and 1980s and 1990s action flicks in general) but it does speak volumes about the current state of Hollywood.

Red Dawn was the first movie to be rated PG-13. I never was too much into Robocop, but Red Dawn is a classic. I remember when it came out, me and my buddies wandering the woods looking for places to set up ambushes.

Just picked up the collector's edition from Walmart a couple weeks ago for $9. I thought that at that price, it was a good idea to put the VHS tape to rest.

    Default Red Dawn -2010

    Just for Ryan...
    ---------
    Red Dawn Returns

    Remake for post-9/11 world.

    by Chris Tilly, IGN UK

UK, July 9, 2008 - Hot-on-the-heels of news that Darren Aronofsky may be directing MGM's Robocop reboot, the studio has announced plans to remake another '80s feature in the shape of Red Dawn.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Red Eye scribe Carl Ellsworth will pen the script, which will update the story to modern day.

The original was set against the backdrop of an invasion of America by Russia and Cuba, and revolved around a group of youngsters -- including Charlie Sheen and Patrick Swayze -- banding together to fight back.

"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," explains Ellsworth. "As Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"

Don Bradley, who worked as second unit director on Spider-Man 3, The Bourne Ultimatum and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, will make his directorial debut with the film.

Why is this JUST for Ryan?!?!?!??!

    I love that movie. lol

And why NOT scare the hell out of the world, AGAIN?

It only serves one purpose. Keep them ALERT.

Things might not happen, but it is better to think about it and prepare than to pretend it can't happen and be surprised.

    Hadn't seen the earlier thread...

The reason "just for Ryan" is his wolverine sig pic.

I'm going to go on the record now and expect this new movie to be a big stinker. It will probably be some corporate conglomerate selling weapons to a militia of white men who attempt to overthrow the government and oppress minorities, woman and children with a fundamentalist view. Some charismatic black and latino gang members(with the help of "mujahadeen") will rise up and defeat the evil white men and their tanks and planes.

That seems to be the general consensus from others that I have heard too.

Many people expect Hollyweird to fuck it up like they do with most all things Conservative. And make no mistake, Red Dawn was and is.

New details on the Red Dawn v2.

Plot Details From Red Dawn Reboot
Wolverine!!! (Umm... Try "WOLVERINES!!!")Come on, who didn't leave the theaters screaming the famous line from John Milius's 1984 movie "Red Dawn"? Okay, not all of us. I was too young to have seen the movie in theaters and saw the film only later on DVD. Er, I mean, VHS. You remember them, right? Those box-looking rectangle thingies with, you know, film and junk? Anyways, they're rebooting "Red Dawn" for a new generation. So what can we expect?

Latino Review has gotten their hands on the script by Carl Ellsworth ("Red Eye"). You can watch the full script review for yourself, and I would encourage it. Those guys put up some nice production values in their videos, and it definitely needs to be seen. But for the lazy among you, here are the important highlights:

    - Former second unit director Dan Bradley ("The Bourne Ultimatum", "Quantum of Solace") is expected to make his directorial debut with the movie. He's apparently going to be using the same handheld style on the reboot.

    - The bad guys/invaders will now be the Red Chinese, who knocks off America in the first 20 pages, and gets help from those stinkin' Russians later in the movie. The cause of the invasion? Oil, of course. There are hints that America is kinda to blame, too. In today's PC environment, that's not too much of a surprise.

    - Our heroes: Jed is now a former Marine back from Iraq and Matt his high school star quarterback brother; Erica is now an Asian-American cheerleader; and Danny is the African-American star running back. Basically, all the original characters will return (including keeping the same names) but as different archetypes.

    - The reboot will be very action-oriented. The original was rated PG-13, but it sounds like the reboot might go the R-rated route.
I swear by Little Baby Jesus this had better not suck in any way, shape, or form.

Your statement and the one below...

    - Former second unit director Dan Bradley ("The Bourne Ultimatum", "Quantum of Solace") is expected to make his directorial debut with the movie.
    ...Are contradictory.

Let me see if I can explain this.

Collect up some pictures of a vacation a friend took. Trees, waterfalls, cars, planes, sunsets etc. 200 ought to do.

Put them in a stack and hold it with your left hand.

Now use your right thumb and hold the top picture back while twisting your left hand to the left. This will fold the pictures slightly...now release each picture with your right thumb at a rate of 15 per second.

Examine the pictures as they pass your vision.

Pop quiz. What did you learn?

Now you understand what it means for the second unit director who did Bourne and Solace to direct this movie. It'll be machine gun cuts, fast loud music and when you're done...you'll feel confused and gross like some stranger rubbed his junk on your hip on the subway and you're really not sure what just happened.

I just counted. 45 cuts in 33 seconds. Much of that was 2nd director stuff.
