    In the throes of Progressive Tyranny

    On July 2, 1776 Congress declared independence as the British fleet and army arrive at New York harbor. Two days later it was a bright, sunny day in Philadelphia, though cool for July and this is the day that Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence from the rule of the British Crown. There were a multitude of reasons for the Declaration of Independence from Britain; chiefly among those reasons was the apparent need for Britain to control the Colonists, tax them heavily, take their weapons and arms, and put people on trial for various and sundry reasons that were truly beyond the law. In fact, the English King even refused to allow local governors and the Continental Congress to make laws for the safety and well-being of the public. At times there were quartering of foreign troops in private homes.

    The English in America became fed up with their treatment and you can see from the very words of the Declaration, the reasoning behind their final decision. Subject to the Crown, Colonists were oppressed in many ways.

    You would think then that the English having fought against her own Subjects and having those Subjects declare independence from Britain would think Subjects of the Crown today would understand the plight of those people who went before them. One would think that the continued oppression of British Citizens would eventually bring about yet another revolt. One would think.

    This forum is for the discussion of something we’re going to call “In the Throes of Progressive Tyranny”. The forum will host the discussion of various laws and regulations that consistently, progressively push deeper and deeper into the Freedoms that both Americans and others in the world enjoy. Those freedoms are slowly, inexorably being eroded today.

    On this forum we will post news articles, and discussion about what is being done to, for and by the people of this country – and other countries, to further erode those rights.

    Progressive Tyranny is by definition the slow erosion of rights of the people and the increase of political and governmental power.

    America is full of Liberals who want to take your gun rights – the Second Amendment to them is for “the government to have guns”… when it is quite clear that is not what the Second Amendment says at all. Progressives are a political party, and they are, in short, Socialists disguised as “Democrats”. Democrats are nothing more than Socialists most of the time. Oh, certainly there are some who are not Socialists, but they are becoming fewer and fewer.

    Even Republicans are full of “progressives”, though they aren’t as obvious as the Democrats make themselves, they are there. The push for the GOP to become more “Centrists” is one of the worst things to happen in America in many years. Today we’re facing an election in a few months for a new President. The two defacto candidates are John McCain, a clearly Liberal Republican and Barack Obama, a clearly Socialist. America is at a crossroad in its history, to elect either the first black man to the Office of President, or push a liberal “Conservative” on the people of this country. Our choices are limited.

    England has her own problems. Today in the news there are articles about making police dogs wear booties to prevent offending Muslims, students in England being placed in detention because they refused to participate in a clearly Muslim religious ceremony (and they aren’t Muslims) and a new rule saying “if you carry a knife, you’re going to jail”. England is suffering from it’s own internal tyranny, a progressive tyranny that makes it “OK” to be arrested for something that was “OK” to do (or more importantly NOT to do) until recently.

    This forum then is specifically to bring light to the various attacks on American’s Rights – and certainly bring to light those Rights others are losing throughout the world to “Tolerance” and “Political Correctness” among other things. The attitudes of the authorities are changing, and those changes are not for the good of Freedoms in this world.

    But via Rush Limbaugh, Hillary Clinton: “I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration, somehow you’re not patriotic, and we should stand up and say, ‘WE ARE AMERICANS AND WE HAVE A RIGHT TO DEBATE AND DISAGREE WITH ANY ADMINISTRATION!’ “

    I wholeheartedly agree.

    She should stand up to her husband, the former president, who is running around the country lying about those who protest against this administration.

    Bill Clinton: “There was this rising movement in the early nineties that was basically not just a carefully orchestrated plot by people of extreme right-wing views but one that fell into fertile soil because there were so many people for whom the world no longer made sense. They wanted a simple, clear explanation of what was an inherently complex, mixed picture full of challenges that required not only changes in public policy, but personnel conduct and imagination about the world we were living in. So demonizing the government and the people that work for it sort of fit that — and there were a lot of people who were in the business back then of saying that the biggest threat to our liberty and the cause of our economic problems was the federal government itself.”

    No, the people at the Tea Parties are not violent or racist or un-American or Nazis or hypocrites or dangerous or ill-informed or uneducated — or any of the other slurs that Democrats threw at them.

    In fact, every derogatory thing the Democratic leadership — from President Obama to Speaker Nancy Pelosi — have said is in fact a lie aimed at dividing the nation and rationalizing the infringement on our rights by a powerful federal government.

    If you think there is any opposition within the Democratic Party to this grab for monolithic control of protesters, you are kidding yourself. This is an orchestrated attack. Said Limbaugh: “But they’re not going to stop. They’re going to keep on. That’s why Clinton is ratcheting it all up because nothing happened yesterday. Nothing that they wanted to happen, none of what they predicted that the tea party was capable of happened yesterday. So what happens? Clinton comes out this morning and has to predict that because of me and others on the radio and now the Internet, and because of these uncontrollable mobs in the tea party, we can look forward to more domestic terrorism. I mean, it’s just infuriating to associate peaceful people with acts of terrorism that have not happened. And yet we cannot associate real terrorists with acts that have happened because we might offend them. But we can go ahead and offend decent American citizens who simply are trying to save what’s left of their civilization.”

    State Senator Malcolm A. Smith, a contractor and real estate developer who rose to become the first black president of the State Senate, and City Councilman Daniel J. Halloran were arrested early Tuesday on charges of trying to fix this year’s mayoral race in New York City, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

    Mr. Smith, a 56-year-old Democrat, and Mr. Halloran, a Queens Republican, were among about a half-dozen people facing charges in the federal corruption case, the people with knowledge of the matter said. Others included the mayor of the Rockland County village of Spring Valley, Noramie F. Jasmin, and her deputy, the people said.


    Mr. Smith was taken from his Queens home in handcuffs before sunrise and Mr. Halloran was arrested at about the same time, the people said.


    Mr. Smith has said he was considering running for mayor of New York as a Republican, and the charges contend that he made payments to Mr. Halloran in exchange for the councilman’s assistance in setting up meetings with Republican leaders as part of an effort to get on the ballot, one of the people said.


    The criminal complaint in the case, which was brought by federal prosecutors in Manhattan, was expected to be unsealed later on Tuesday morning, when Mr. Smith, Mr. Halloran and the others appear before a United States magistrate judge in United States District Court in White Plains.


    “Public service is not supposed to be a shortcut to self-enrichment,'’ George Venizelos, assistant director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said in a statement. “At the very least, public officials should obey the law. As alleged, these defendants did not obey the law; they broke the law and the public trust. There is a price to pay for that kind of betrayal.”


    Mr. Smith’s lawyer, Gerald L. Shargel, said his client denied wrongdoing. “Malcolm Smith is a dedicated and highly respected public servant and he steadfastly denies these charges,” Mr. Shargel said, adding he would have more to say after he had an opportunity to study the charges.


    In addition to Mr. Smith, Mr. Halloran and Ms. Jasmine, the others charged were Vincent Tabone, a Republican party leader in Queens, Joseph Savino, the chairman of the Republican Party in the Bronx, and Ms. Jasmine’s deputy, Joseph A. Desmaret, the people with knowledge of the matter said.


    Late last year, Mr. Smith, who was elected Senate President in 2008 and ousted in 2010, joined a group of insurgent Democrats – the Independent Democratic Conference -- and said around the same time that he was considering running for mayor of New York City as a Republican.


    He was seen as a key recruit for the conference, a five-member faction that formed a leadership coalition with Republicans in the Senate. Before Mr. Smith joined the caucus, there was criticism that a faction of white Democrats was joining with the all-white Republican conference; the presence of Mr. Smith, an African-American and a last minute recruit to the Independent Democratic Conference, helped blunt those concerns.


    The move came with some incentives -- beyond his increased influence, a report in The New York Post said that his staff budget has increased by about two-thirds since he joined the conference.


    Mr. Smith has been a subject of several criminal inquiries in recent years. One, which had apparently begun by early 2010 and was conducted by federal prosecutors from the same office that sought the indictment that led to Tuesday’s arrests, was focused on a nonprofit linked to Sen. Smith and United States Representative Gregory J. Meeks. In that case, the prosecutors subpoenaed records from Mr. Smith’s Senate office that detailed moneys he had directed to community groups for a decade. Mr. Meeks has not been accused of any wrongdoing.


    The subpoena, written broadly, sought information on all of Mr. Smith’s so-called member items -- grants to organizations in his Queens district -- and any appropriations tied to him since at least 2000, a person with knowledge of the subpoena said at the time.


    The person said that investigators made clear that they were seeking the records because of their interest in New Direction, a group set up in 2000 to encourage development in southeast Queens.


    Mr. Smith, along with the then-Senate Democratic leader, John L. Sampson of Brooklyn, was also among those named in a scathing State Inspector General’s report in 2010 that said the Senate’s leaders had manipulated the choice of who would build New York City’s first casino.


    The 308-page report, on the competition to install video slot machines at the Aqueduct racetrack in Queens, was referred to federal and state prosecutors and the Legislative Ethics Committee and said the senators had leaked information and shown favoritism to a troubled bidder that was donating to Democratic candidates and had ties to key political figures. No charges have been brought in relation to the casino contract.

    U.S. Code Pink Co-Founder Held at Egypt Airport Deported

    A co-founder of the U.S. peace group Code Pink, Medea Benjamin, who was detained at Cairo airport en route to the Gaza Strip, has been deported.

    Benjamin has been deported to Turkey, Code Pink said in a Twitter posting. The activist was on her way to Gaza as part of an International Women’s Day delegation.

    “The police pulled my arm out the socket, my arm is dislocated,” Benjamin said by phone from Cairo airport jail earlier today.

    A police officer at the airport, who asked not to be identified by name because he’s not authorized to speak to the media, said the activist had not been arrested, and was being held because the Rafah crossing into Gaza is closed today.

    A couple weeks ago at the NC PATCON, I moderated a very abbreviated discussion of the Appalachian Redoubt. There was some really good input, however, we didn’t get the opportunity to finish the discussion points. So I’d like to open the floor up to everyone’s input.
    From an intelligence standpoint, I like the Appalachian Redoubt not because it’s a particularly great option but because it’s the best option east of the Mississippi. I used to view Texas in a similar light, however, I think it’s now apparent that Texas stands a real chance of being turned blue. Frankly, as Texas goes, so goes America. At a strategic level, if Texas becomes a democrat state through immigration reform and the creation of 10-30MM new Americans, it’s difficult to see how we’ll ever have another pro-Liberty, limited government president, maybe within my lifetime. I think that’s the last nail in the Republic’s coffin as national gun control legislation would be soon to follow. (The national popular vote was within five million, and the Texas vote was within 1.2MM. Even just a few million new voters would make a significant impact.)
    At any rate, I’m attracted to the Appalachians for the same reasons I’m drawn to the Mountain West, and it’s ultimately why I decided to make the Mountain West my home a few years ago.
    So I’ve come up with the top five factors with intelligence requirements that need to be discussed and answered if you’re going to build the Appalachian Redoubt. I love the idea and I’ll support the mission as best I can. (And, really, these factors apply to any Redoubt or retreat location.)

    1. Survivability
    On the tactical level, survivability factors include access to abundant water, food, shelter, and medicine. On the operational or strategic level, survivability includes societal, governmental and economic resiliency. The worse shape your society, governance and economy is in, the more difficult it will be for you to survive on the tactical level. A cooperative society, good governance and the availability of jobs will lessen tribalism and crime, which greatly increases your individual survivability.
    What is your ability to sustain a society in the Appalachians post-SHTF?
    What are the largest threats to survivability?
    What is survivability dependent upon?
    What should be developed to ensure survivability?

    2. Defensibility
    Defensibility is the ability to defend not just your home, homestead, or county (tactical) but also the Redoubt (operational or strategic). I would encourage each of you to begin conducting Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield/Community because that process greatly increases your defensibility. We can’t just look at the physical terrain – things like mountains, hills, and rivers. We recently discussed on this blog that the human terrain – your neighbors; the populace in general – are the greatest counterintelligence asset and threat. What’s your plan to defend them so that they don’t cooperate with the adversary? What’s the defensibility of the society’s norms, traditions and values? This isn’t just a fight for your life, but a fight for your way of life.
    What are the largest threats to defensibility?
    What are the largest vulnerabilities to defensibility?
    What will be required to defend the Redoubt?

    3. Mobility
    Mobility is the ability to get around. Most local economies aren’t self-sufficient, nor are most homesteads. You will need the ability to move goods and services throughout the region. Will roads be safe to travel? How will you ensure safe travel for economic sustainability? Will bridges and tunnels be safe to traverse? Without mobility, your economy can’t be scaled upwards, which hampers your survivability because you can’t get the goods and services you need to stay alive.
    How do you expect mobility will be affected post-SHTF?
    What can you do to maintain mobility within the region post-SHTF?

    4. Governance
    Governance increases the cooperation of society by enforcing laws, providing legal and judicial outlets, and maintaining faith that the future will get better. Poor governance will negatively affect every aspect of your life as tribalism, mobs and other irregular threats fill the power vacuum. Tribalism begets conflict, while good governance begets peace.
    What is post-SHTF government more likely to look like – county/state government of today or something different?
    What’s the best way forward for developing or maintaining good governance post-SHTF?

    5. Popular Support
    Maintaining popular support is important for any undertaking, and doubly so for conflict. If the people don’t support your ideas for security, governance or the future, then you will likely fail. If the people support you, then you have an advantage over your competitors or adversaries. If your neighbors and community don’t support your plans, then remember that you not only lack popular support but you also have potential adversaries. Your plans are a threat to theirs, so if they aren’t on board with the Appalachian Redoubt – maybe they prefer the police state or maybe their resistant to change or have a severe case of normalcy bias – then they avail themselves to falling under the influence or control of your adversary.
    How do you perceive the populace feels about the Appalachian Redoubt?
    What can you do now to develop popular support for the movement?

    Conclusion.
    Those are my top five important factors. The best thing you can start today, in my opinion, is starting your own version of Radio Free Redoubt. You have to start popularizing this idea by getting your message out about it. Get people “bought-in” and inculcate intrinsic motivation for their support of the project.
    By the way, I guess now is as good a time as any to announce that the Summer issue (July) of Forward Observer Magazine is “The Redoubt Issue.” We’ll be breaking some of this information down and looking at both Redoubts from different perspectives. I’ll provide additional details next month.

    The "time is right" for police, security and intelligence agencies to be given more powers to defend the UK, Home Secretary Theresa May has said.
    Unveiling a new counter-terrorism bill, Mrs May said the UK was in a security struggle "on many fronts".
    Under the bill, UK-based insurance companies are to be banned from covering the cost of terrorist ransoms.
    Mrs May said the package, which she hopes to fast-track through Parliament, was "properly considered".
    The home secretary is setting out parts of the Counter Terrorism and Security Bill - which will be introduced to Parliament on Wednesday - in a speech at a counter-terrorism event in London.
    By banning insurance companies from covering ransoms, the government hopes firms and families will be deterred from paying kidnappers.
    Ministers maintain that paying ransoms encourages kidnapping, and it says Islamic State militants are taking hostages to fund their operations.
    The ban is one of several measures proposed in response to the terror threat.
    The UK's terror threat level was raised from "substantial" to "severe" earlier this year in response to conflicts in Iraq and Syria.

    For a decade, British security and intelligence agencies have tried to counter threats from individuals inspired by al-Qaeda's ideology.
    They're worried that the emergence of the so-called Islamic State has made that job far harder.
    Twice before - in the wake of 9/11 and 7/7 - they asked ministers for more powers.
    Each time there has been a difficult debate about the balance between those powers and personal liberties.
    This coming bill - which is aimed at disrupting extremist activity - will face the same questions.
    Against that background, a "Counter-terrorism Awareness Week" has something of a "Dig for Victory" spirit about it as the government and security chiefs seek public support ahead of potentially controversial legislation.
    But PR tactics aside, the appeal is very squarely focused on the brutal fact that the police don't believe they can do this job alone.

    The Home Office said current laws criminalised terrorist financing but there had been an element of "uncertainty" about whether insurers were prohibited from paying claims made by companies and families who had met ransom demands.
    It said the Terrorism Act 2000 would now be amended to make it an explicit offence for insurers to reimburse such payments.

    Other measures which will be part of the Counter Terrorism and Security Bill include:


    The Liberal Democrats said it was "good news" that the Home Office had "finally got round" to producing plans to give police powers to find out who was using a phone or computer at a certain time.
    Public help Mrs May was speaking at the start of a week-long police initiative - Counter-terrorism Awareness Week - involving more than 3,000 officers, to remind the public how they can help fight terrorism.
    More than 6,000 people at schools, universities, airports, shopping centres, cinemas and farms across the UK will be briefed by counter-terror officers.
    Police officers and theatre groups will be speaking to students about the Prevent strategy, which provides practical help to people who may be drawn into terrorism.
    Officers will also be providing counter-terrorism information to passengers and staff at railway stations.
    Also speaking earlier, Britain's counter-terrorism chief has warned that police officers alone "cannot combat" the threat of extremism.
    Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley - the Association of Chief Police Officers' national policing lead for counter-terrorism - said: "So far this year, we have disrupted several attack plots and made 271 arrests but the eyes and ears of law enforcement and other agencies alone cannot combat the threat."
    The threat posed by violent extremists has "evolved" and is no longer a problem solely stemming from countries like Iraq and Afghanistan.

    "The police counter-terrorism network... cannot succeed alone," says Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley

    "Now, they are home grown, in our communities, radicalised by images and messages they read on social media and prepared to kill for their cause," he said.
    He said "nearly half" of those from the UK joining Islamic State, a militant group which has taken control of large areas of Syria and Iraq, were "recently radicalised and weren't previously on our radar".
    On Sunday, the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police told the BBC that four or five terror plots had been stopped this year.
    Police have previously prevented on average one plot a year, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said.

    Those "Britons" that joined ISIS were no more British than I am. They were Islamic shitbags who are living in England so as to leech off the British while plotting the death of those same Brits.

    And the Americans that have joined aren't really "American" if they can't understand why they are here, how this country came to be and still exists because of the American Spirit.

    So, anyone that wants to support, join or give money to terrorists... fuck them.
