Seattle School District Wants Teachers To Bless Muslims During Ramadan

"The district is running roughshod over the First Amendment’s mandate..."

A school district in Seattle has sent out a letter asking teachers to bless its Muslim students in Arabic during the month of Ramadan and give them preferential treatment, such as obtaining dispensations for classes and exams, reports Fox News.

In response to the letter, the religious liberty legal defense group Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund (FCDF), has threatened the Dieringer School District with a potential lawsuit for violating the conscience of its employees. FCDF alleges that the district followed edicts put forward by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) that advises schools to accommodate Muslim students by wishing them "Ramadan Mubarak" (Happy Ramadan) or "Ramadan Kareem" (Have a generous Ramadan). The edicts also instruct teachers to respect the Ramadan fast by not scheduling any tests during the holidays of Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. More from Fox News:

Daniel Piedra, FCDF’s executive director, said in a statement that the Seattle-area school district is violating teachers' First Amendment rights by exerting pressure upon them to engage in religious speech with which they do not agree. Piedra argues that the district would never advise teachers to accommodate Christian students in such a similar manner.

"By urging teachers to bless Muslim students in Arabic, the district is running roughshod over the First Amendment’s mandate of government neutrality toward religion,” said Piedra. "A school district would never order teachers to 'welcome' Catholic students during Easter with 'He is risen, alleluia!' Singling out Muslim students for special treatment is blatantly unconstitutional."

Ibrahim Hooper, national communications director for CAIR, denounced the potential lawsuit in a statement to Fox News as a "sign of the growing Islamophobia in our nation that showing respect for and accommodating the religious traditions of Muslim students could result in punitive legal action."

"Pluralism in America means recognizing the wide variety of holidays celebrated by students of different faiths and backgrounds, including by saying 'Merry Christmas,' 'Happy Hanukkah,' 'Happy Diwali,' or 'Ramadan Mubarak,'" Hooper added.

The FCDF complaint goes beyond just mere accommodation of Muslim students by the school district, arguing that CAIR's mission is to raise Ramadan to the equivalence of Christmas on the school calendar, thereby disrupting the academic schedule.

"This approach is wrong for two reasons. First, adding Islamic holidays does not further the district’s educational mission and academic goals," the FCDC said in a statement. "Recognizing holidays is constitutional only if the purpose is to provide secular instruction about religious traditions, rather than to promote the particular religion involved. Second, CAIR’s recommendation that teachers schedule tests around Eid Al-Fitr and Eid would alleviate no burden on Muslim students."

Ramadan began on Monday. During the month-long Islamic holiday, observant Muslims must fast during the day.

NYC’s Muslim Community Patrol to enforce the “fundamentals of the Sharia”

Not surprisingly, the sight of official-looking cars – made to look like police New York City cars — emblazoned with the words “Muslim Community Patrol” cruising the avenues of Brooklyn and Staten Island—in the United States of America—was quick to generate news coverage, commentary and alarm.

Most of the mainstream American media reacted in typical fashion. Ever fearful of offending radicalized Muslim communities or digging too deeply into unsavory truths, they gushed in glowing news reports about the new patrol cars and portrayed them as a “neighborhood watch” for Muslim-dominated areas.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said the Muslim patrol units would help keep the city safe and vowed that his administration would help organizers acquire more police-style cars and equipment.

“We believe we need to do more to assist them,” he told NY1 News.

Yet, a little digging shows that the Muslim Community Patrol has an underlying agenda: to enforce Islamic sharia law first in the Muslim community and then in American community at large….

This is where things got interesting. He went on to say that the patrol presence was needed not just for protecting mosques, but also to stop people— Muslim people, in particular—from doing what was harmful and what the Quran considers haram, or forbidden, for Muslims.

Abdul remembered Wahhaj saying, “The mosques need protection and the MCP cars can help stop people who were not following the rules and regulations of the sharia, doing what they’re not supposed to be doing, but still doing it.”

That is, they were there to physically enforce “laws” that were not U.S. or New York laws.

Wahhaj reportedly went on to say he was concerned about stopping such things as “Muslim women being out after dark, Muslim men hanging out in the corners doing dope, Muslims drinking liquor. Basically, the fundamentals of the Sharia,” Abdul said….

That was only a pretext. They were put on the streets to enforce sharia law as well as provide security for mosques, all under the direction of Wahhaj, who is serving as second in command to the operations director of MCP&S.

“Everything is going to be sharia,” Abdul said. “That’s Wahhaj’s main thing. He’s working on a ‘one sheikh’ and ‘one government’ system that practices sharia. What he’s trying to do is find grounds for running the sharia. That’s what these cars are all about.”

According to an eyewitness who spoke personally to Mahwish Fathma, the operations director for MCP&S, Abdul is correct. Fathma said sharia enforcement is the group’s primary objective.

“When I asked her whether sharia was going to be enforced, she said, ‘Of course it is,’ said “Hashim,” who also asked not to be identified by his real name. “She said they’d enforce it on Muslims first, then on non-Muslims. They’ll be enforcing sharia law and American law….

The incident leading up to the emergency Masjid Kawthar conference, in which the MCP&S officer confronted the group of pot-smoking young African Americans outside a mosque, could be considered an attempt to enforce both U.S. and sharia law, since smoking pot is both illegal in New York City and considered haram in the Quran….

To address similar issues in the future, some MCP&S officers are now undergoing specialized training with policemen from NYPD’s 72nd precinct. Officers are receiving instructions in both self-defense and suspect-restraint techniques.

MCP&S is also attempting to recruit Muslim officers of the NYPD, asking them to serve as off-duty patrol volunteers. These officers could provide MCP&S with the capability of issuing citations and making arrests. They also have the advantage of being able to carry weapons….

“This whole thing is a test before they buy more cars,” he said. “They want to see how it goes.”…

NYC Muslim Patrol: Bullying, Gangster Tactics Reported

“Bullying” and “gangster-like” tactics have been reported by locals in New York areas where the Muslim Community Patrol & Services operates.

These tactics are beginning to create a backlash against the self-described “civilian patrol organization” among local residents.

The Muslim patrol gained international attention in the fall of 2018 after several of its patrol cars — which look like New York Police Department (NYPD) cars –were spotted in Brooklyn and Staten Island.

The patrol originally said its purpose was to serve as a liaison between Muslims and the NYPD. But after two consecutive mosque shootings in New Zealand last March, where a gunman live-streamed his murder of 51 Muslims on Facebook, the patrol publicly altered its purpose.

It now describes itself as a law enforcement organization, claiming its goal is to “protect members of the local community from escalating quality-of-life nuisance crimes.”

It’s precisely that “law enforcement” definition that is now landing the Muslim patrol into hot water with New York City residents, particularly those living in the Brooklyn area of Bedford-Stuyvesant.

“They are bullying people and getting out of their patrol cars looking like gangsters,” said one resident, who asked to remain anonymous. “The people in Bed-Stuy don’t want them there.”

The Muslim patrol originally had a force of three patrol cars when it first formed in November 2018, but it now has seven cars on the streets of New York with the intention of purchasing 23 more cars in the near future.

The Muslim patrol’s cars are nearly identical to NYPD patrol cars. Both use Ford Taurus’ and have similar decal schemes, colors and emblems.

Though the Muslim patrol cars do not have lights on their hoods, they do have emergency flashing lights in the front and back windshields.

“A lot of people can’t tell them apart,” said the resident. “In fact, most people think they are NYPD detective cars, especially if they are driving behind you.”

Significantly, some Muslim patrol “officers” have been driving their patrol cars with their emergency lights in continuous flash mode, even when not responding to an emergency.

“They never turn them off and people are seeing these lights and thinking [they are] NYPD,” the resident said.

The cars also have sirens, which another neighborhood resident says is being used to intimidate people.

“They turn on their sirens when they see non-Muslims park next to a mosque during Friday prayer services,” said another resident.

“They get out of their cars and start humiliating these people, telling them they have to move their cars and that they can’t park next to a mosque because they’re not a Muslim, even though it’s completely legal for them to park there,” he explained.

In addition, Muslim patrol officers are patrolling sidewalks near mosques and stripping people of their open containers of alcohol. Though open containers of alcohol are a city violation, an NYPD officer typically resolves it peacefully.

“In some cases, these Muslim patrol officers are kicking the beer out of their hands or yanking it from them and pouring it out on the streets,” the second resident said. “These guys aren’t police officers and they don’t have the right to take someone else’s property and destroy it, even if a person is committing an offense.”

“They talk to these people like the ARE the police,” he added. “And a lot of people in the Bed-Stuy community are getting fed up with it. Some, including the Muslims in the community, are demanding a meeting with the district attorney.”

Both residents who spoke up, however, agreed that the NYPD still favors the “services” provided by Muslim patrol.

“The local captain, he don’t care if they’re enforcing sharia law. The police see them as helping them with their jobs.”

Olat shared a Facebook post about a Somali news platform serving Somali’s across the world, along with the caption: “Mukhtar Dahir SDN – Somali Diaspora News SDN – Somali Diaspora News all the way. We going to take over.”

Olat announced his run for office after the current Minneapolis Ward 6 Council member Abdi Warsame was appointed CEO of Minneapolis Public Housing Authority.

In a statement announcing his run for office, Olat wrote:
The diverse peoples of Ward 6 deserve an honest diligent representation. I am running to rebuild our residents’ faith in our City Hall. I will strive to restore integrity and confidence in this office and offer our diverse residents, reasons to be hopeful again. From the streets in our neighborhoods to the walls of our State Capital and to the corridors of our Congress in D.C, I have , for a long time, championed for justice and equality. My passion for the issues I most care about runs deep and is personal for me.
Our Ward faces difficult times, perpetuated by the leadership in our nation’s capital, each and every single day. Among many, we are faced with both rising crimes and police brutality, inadequate and poor housing, lagging infrastructure improvement and under performing public schools, more so for our children of color.


It is time for a fresh perspective, a unifying voice for collective impact. This campaign is about us, not about me. Our neighborhoods deserve a new approach, a new vision that is guided by a bold leadership and comprehensive new strategies for collective growth and prosperity for all our residents in Ward 6.
Haven’t the people of Minneapolis learned a lesson with the Muslims they are putting in office such as Keith Ellison and Ilhan Omar?
