Man Wanted For Shooting At Cleveland Police Officers

The suspect then began walking toward East 131st Street, again firing the weapon 7-9 times in rapid succession

    September 2, 2015

    Shawn B. Hall

Police in the Fourth District Detective Bureau are currently investigating a felonious assault shooting on a police officer incident which occurred about 11 p.m. Monday.

The preliminary information reveals that officers responded to an assignment for shots fired at 3868 East 131st Street, at the ADM Dairy Mart.

Upon arrival, two white vehicles were seen parked in the lot and standing outside of the vehicles were several men and women.

One of the men pulled out a handgun and fired several shots towards the marked police vehicle which was in the curb lane of East 131st Street. At this time, the officer driving the police vehicle did back away evasively so as not to be hit by incoming fire.

Officers observed the muzzle flash on the handgun. The man then began walking toward East 131st Street, again firing the weapon 7-9 times in rapid succession.

The shooter then entered one of the white vehicles, an Infinity G35, as a passenger and the vehicle pulled out behind the other white vehicle, a Chrysler 200 driven by a female.

The vehicle attempted to drive off but was unable to accelerate due to parked vehicles and oncoming traffic. Once the vehicle stopped, in the 12700 block of Lenacrave Avenue, officers ordered the suspects to show their hands, the passenger/shooter got out and ran and was pursued by officers.

The driver, Justin Stewart, was taken into custody. The female driver of the Chrysler was arrested for obstruction of justice as she got out of her vehicle and interfered with the officer's investigation by encroaching on the active crime scene and arguing with officers as they attempted to affect an arrest.

A thorough search of the surrounding blocks, including assistance from the police K-9 Unit, did not find the suspect.

The suspect in this case was identified as Shawn B. Hall, 26. Hall should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Shawn B. Hall is asked to contact fourth district investigators at 216-623-5418.

No officers were injured in this incident and officers did not return fire.

The details on Officer Allen's death are coming out and all I can say is, "Holy shit..."

Anyone explain to me why this isn't being broadcast all over the news?

Off-Duty Cop ‘Bound, Gagged, Tortured’ In Own Home

    September 2, 2015

Texas law enforcement sources tell me that the crime scene of off duty Abilene, Texas Police Officer Don Allen’s murder included anti-cop slurs written in the officer’s own blood.

Allen, 27, was found dead in his Clyde home Monday in what investigators are calling a homicide.

“He was the only person in the residence when he was found dead by family members, police said,” WFAA reports.

Clyde police called in the Texas Rangers and FBI to investigate “due to the circumstances surrounding the death,” according to police.

“His family is heartbroken, as is our police family,” said an Abilene police spokesman. “He has earned lifelong friends.”

Police claimed in a Tuesday news conference that it did not appear Allen was targeted because he was a police officer.

But sources tell me that the off duty Officer was bound, gagged, and tortured. They further told me that anti-police slurs were written in Allen’s blood within the home.

    This is a developing story.

Madison, Wisconsin Police Officer Confronted By Crowd, Punched, Police Say

    September 3, 2015

Latonya B. James and Nanyamka N. James

A Madison police officer was confronted by a crowd and punched after a street fight on Prairie Road Wednesday night, according to a release from Madison police.

The officer stopped in the area of Prairie Road and Jacobs Way around 6:20 p.m. after spotting a large number of people in the street. He said that as he approached he saw a woman punch a man in the face, and he could see that the woman had a can of pepper spray.

The officer said that as he went to arrest the woman he was surrounded by a crowd that was voicing anti-police sentiments, including "We need to start killing these officers."

Police said the woman’s daughter was grabbing the officer while trying to free her mother. The officer said he tried to diffuse the situation by explaining to the crowd that the woman had just punched someone and was armed with pepper spray. Police said his words were ignored, and the struggle with the two people continued.

The older woman punched the officer in the face and grabbed him by the throat, according to the release.

The officer said he could see many in the crowd were recording the incident on their cellphones while some accused him of misconduct and using excessive force.

A witness told police he or she "felt the officer was in trouble" and said it appeared someone had gone for his gun.

The two women were arrested when more officers arrived.

"He demonstrated fantastic patience and restraint in dealing with these folks," Madison Police Department Capt. Vic Wahl said. "He was able to literally get assaulted in the midst of a large crowd and still take these women into custody without causing any injuries to anyone."

Police said Latonya B. James, 40, of Madison, threatened many times to kill the officer while on her way to jail. She was arrested on suspicion of battery to a law enforcement officer, possession of pepper spray, disorderly conduct and resisting.

Nanyamka N. James, 20, of Madison was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, resisting and on a parole hold.

Police said a nearby resident who was not involved in the melee told a detective the officer who was battered has, in the past, done a great job reaching out to residents and communicating with the neighborhood.

Las Vegas Cop Shot ‘Ambush-Style’ While Sitting in Patrol Car at Traffic Light; Officer Hit in Hand, in Stable Condition

    September 6, 2015

UPDATE 8:01 p.m. ET: The suspect in connection with the Las Vegas police shooting is a Hispanic male, Undersheriff Kevin McMahill said at a news conference Sunday, KSNV-TV reported.

The man’s identity has not been confirmed, McMahill added, and a motive has not been determined.

When the shooting started, the officers figured their patrol car had been rear-ended by another vehicle, McMahill explained. When they knew they were being fired at, he said they exited the cruiser and one officer chased down and arrested the suspect. The man had ditched a Springfield handgun which was later located, McMahill said.

Police officers have been going on patrol in pairs since Friday’s shooting for safety reasons, he said.

The undersheriff added that the officers showed “remarkable restraint” by not firing back at the suspect and that the men and women on the Las Vegas police force are “doing one hell of a job.”

    Original story below

A Las Vegas police officer is in stable condition Sunday after being shot in the hand “ambush-style” while he and a fellow officer sat in a patrol car at a traffic light, KTNV-TV said.

The suspect is in custody, police said.

Police told KTNV the suspect — who’s in custody — approached the cruiser just after noon and fired three shots “ambush-style” at the officers who had just departed the scene of a disturbance call. The officers fired no shots, police told the station.

The officer hit by gunfire was in stable condition at a hospital.

It’s the second time in three days that a Las Vegas police officer has been shot in the line duty. Officer Jeremy Robertson was shot in the upper leg Friday morning while answering a call; two suspects were taken into custody, KTNV said.

Obama Fuels The Flames Of The Anti-Cop Movement

    October 24, 2015

At a White House discussion about improving the  relationship between police departments and  black Americans, President Obama declared that “the moment is here.”

He meant a chance for big change, and that’s the problem. The change he and his allies are achieving is like throwing gasoline on a raging fire.

Consider that at about the same time the nation’s first black president was speaking to police chiefs and prosecutors, a group called Black Lives Matter was denouncing police brutality in Times Square, real and imagined. In another sad coincidence of timing, they marched as the city was mourning the murder of NYPD Officer Randolph Holder, the fourth New York City cop killed in 11 months.

Officer Holder was black, as is his alleged killer, but that mattered not a whit to the protesters. One told Fox News that she hopes Holder’s family “realizes that his life is included in the ‘Black Lives Matter’ slogan.”

“We’re talking about black bodies being persecuted across the world,” she added.

This is nonsense on steroids, yet these are the president’s shock troops. Obama and confidante Valerie Jarrett earlier met with the radicals leading the Black Lives Matter movement and encouraged them to keep going, the group has said.

Obama, at last Thursday’s event, praised the group again while also claiming that “everybody understands that all lives matter. Everybody wants strong, effective law enforcement. Everybody wants their kids to be safe when they are walking across the street. Nobody wants to see police officers who are doing their jobs fairly hurt. Everybody understands it’s a dangerous job.”

His saying so doesn’t make it true. The anti-police movement sweeping urban areas proves that many people actually don’t want strong law enforcement, and don’t have any respect for police work. Many, including those Obama met with, appear to hate all cops.

The police-brutality yarn also hides another issue. It is the documented fact that young black men commit violent crimes far out of proportion to their population.

The New York City murder rate is typical. Year in, year out, about 90 percent of homicide victims are nonwhite males, as are 90 percent of their killers.

Yes, there are bad cops, and they come in all races. But for the president to emphasize that there are brutal and racist cops, presumably white, without citing the staggering rate of black-on-black crime distorts both problems. It also misses the relationship between them.

The very nature of police work — to go where the crimes are — means cops will have more charged interactions with young black men than with other racial and ethnic groups. Had Obama acknowledged those realities, and spent serious time in his presidency working toward reducing black crime, he would have far more standing to criticize police and prosecutors.

Indeed, he could have, and should have, cited the murder of Officer Holder as an example of the complexity of the issues. An immigrant from Guyana, the 33-year-old Holder came from a family of police officers there and, after five years on the NYPD, had won several awards and aimed to become a detective. The president might have cited Holder’s sacrifice, if only to show he understands how a police shooting strikes at the heart of other cops and society as a whole.

Obama also could have cited Holder’s alleged killer to make another point. Tyrone Howard, 30, is a career criminal who has been arrested 28 times over the last 16 years, including once for the shooting of a 9-year-old boy. Even Mayor de Blasio, who won office by demonizing cops, called Howard “a hardened and violent criminal” who “should not have been on the streets.”

Howard, facing a six-year prison sentence last May for leading a drug gang, was instead sent to a drug-treatment program by overly lenient judges. He was involved in a shootout with gang rivals last Tuesday when Holder and other officers gave chase. As they got close, Howard allegedly turned and killed the cop with a single shot to the head from an illegal handgun.

Facts are stubborn things, but it is probably asking too much for anti-cop bigots to recognize them. Yet for the president of the United States to cheer their movement is more than a mistake. It is another tragic illustration of how Obama is taking America backward.

JFK allowed passengers arriving on international flight to exit without going through Customs

JFK Allowed Passengers to Exit Without Going Through Customs

Passengers arriving at Kennedy Airport on an international flight were allowed to exit the busy hub without going through Customs — for at least the second time in recent months, the Daily News has learned.

Bumbling airline and security officials let travelers on American Airlines Flight 1223 from Cancun, Mexico, out of the airport on Monday morning without having their passports or bags checked, sources told The News.

The security lapse mirrored a similar incident involving another American Airlines flight in November.

A 34-year-old man who had been in Cancun to attend three Phish concerts told The News he was able to glide from the plane to the baggage claim area without having to endure the usual maze of Customs and Border Protection security checks.

DelMundo, Anthony freelance NYDN/Anthony DelMundo Airline and security officials let travelers on American Airlines Flight 1223 from Cancun, Mexico, out of the airport without having their passports or bags checked, sources told The News.

EXCLUSIVE: 150 ON FLIGHT FROM MEXICO ALLOWED TO SKIP CUSTOMS, LEAVE JFK
“It’s absolutely absurd,” the business adviser said. “To think that anyone could be walking off of that plane and just get right into the city. It could be terrorists, El

    Chapo’s henchmen, anyone.”

The jam band fan said he even approached a Transportation Security Administration agent near the exit, but was told he was free to go.
“I told them what happened and asked them what should I do,” the passenger said. “They said to me ‘That’s fine, you’re OK. Go ahead.’ ”
Several other concertgoers who were on the flight were already outside at the curbside cab line when he exited the airport.

Dave Martin/ASSOCIATED PRESS A man who had been in Cancun to attend three Phish concerts told The News he was able to glide from the plane to the baggage claim area without having to endure Customs and Border Protection security checks.

Neither the TSA, which screens passengers before they fly, nor the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, part of the Department of Homeland Security, responded to a request for comment.

It was unclear how many of the passengers from the flight were able to skip the security checkpoints

Hours after the plane landed, American Airline officials pleaded with the Manhattan man — and presumably other passengers — to return to Kennedy and complete the customs process.

“I apologize for any inconvenience this may be for you; however it is a Customs requirement that every passenger entering the United States must clear Customs,” the airline wrote in an email sent to passengers.

“You could tell that they knew they screwed up and were desperate to get me to come,” the passenger added.

The oversight sparked fears that terrorists could easily slip into the country without having to pass through any checkpoints.

“New York remains the number one target for terrorists and it just made me think of Paris and how easy it would be for them to get in,” he said. “It’s incompetence like this that could lead to another attack.”

A nearly identical incident involving another American Airlines flight from Cancun unfolded in November, just two days after ISIS released a video threatening New York City with a terrorist attack, The News reported.

American Airlines admitted to the latest security snafu in a statement, but declined to say what they were doing about it.

“We take the safety and security of our customers, employees and operation very seriously,” the company said. “Some passengers on flight 1223 did not complete immigration and customs process upon arrival when they were inadvertently directed to the domestic terminal.”

After the November incident, a Customs spokesman told The News that the agency was “aware of and looking into the incident and is working with our counterparts to resolve it.”

Troopers Surprise 10-Year-Old Boy When Nobody Shows Up To His Birthday Party

    April 12, 2016

A 10-year-old boy in Arkansas said his heart sank when his mom sent 21 classmates invitations to his birthday party earlier this month, but nobody showed up.

Two days later, the doorbell rang. A group of state troopers stopped by, and they brought cake.

"They had come to give me all that stuff and make up their own birthday party for me," Toxey Ahrabli told KTHV. "I cried a little bit because they did that for me."

At first, a few parents said their children would attend, Toxey's mom told ABC News. "We thought there were at least five kids coming," Angela Andrews said. But she told the news station one child fell ill, and the others were no-shows.

She wrote about her son's grief on Facebook. Some state troopers noticed, and agreed the boy deserved a surprise party at his home in Hot Springs Village.

Toxey said he was "scared and at the same time trying to figure out why they were here." But along with the cookie cake, they had gifts ranging from video games to a razor scooter.

"They showed me all the keys to do the sirens and the horn. I also got to see the cage with the dog in it," he told KTHV. They also played a round of basketball.

"Cpl David Forthman, along with Troopers Terry Sawyer, Kyle Sheldon, Brandon Cook, and Tim Callison are the reason we become troopers. We all want to make a difference," state police posted on Facebook.

Police Sergeant Pens Heartbreaking Letter To Deceased K-9 Partner

    June 29, 2016

There are few human-animal bonds closer than the one formed between a police officer and his K-9 partner. So, when Sgt. Michael Spitaleri's longtime canine companion -- a black German Shepherd named Major -- passed away on the morning of June 24th, Spitaleri penned a beautiful letter to his fallen partner in, well, the opposite of crime.

"Today has been the most difficult day of my career," the note begins. "I made the decision to end your pain and suffering, however I'm hurting far more than I anticipated. I already miss you, buddy."

Spitaleri and Major started K-9 school together in November 2008. Then over the course of the next six years, they worked side-by-side to locate dozens of criminals, sniff out illegal narcotics, seize unlawful firearms, and track down countless other items of evidentiary value.

"These arrests and finds wouldn't have been possible without you. You made me look like a superstar at times," Spitaleri addresses Major in the letter. "Truth be told, I was nothing more than the guy who held your leash."

Major retired from police work in 2014 due to medical issues, a difficult decision given how much the dog loved to work.

"The adjustment to being a normal dog was difficult for you," Spitaleri writes. "You would watch me get ready and run to the door in anticipation of going to work. I know you didn't understand... I did it because I loved you, buddy. I wanted to make sure your medical conditions didn't get worse."

In retirement, Major took on a new job -- protecting Spitaleri's wife and kids -- with the same fervor he'd protected his partner in the line of duty all those years.

"You would lay by my kids' door at night while they slept, almost as if to say 'I got them, Daddy, you go to work, and they'll be fine,'" writes Spitaleri. "I felt at peace knowing you were home keeping them safe."

Sgt. Michael Spitaleri and his "faithful partner," Major.

While the letter is extremely emotional, not all of it is sad. Spitaleri writes about the comical way no dispatcher could ever hear him over the radio because Major would insist on "talking over him" whenever their call sign went out. The officers at Florida's Clearwater Police Department reportedly still laugh about it to this day.

Spitaleri also writes of how Major would intimidate some of the toughest men on the force with the sheer power of his fierce work ethic.

"I always laughed when we would train with the SWAT team," he writes. "When I would get you out of the car I would watch as these tough men would find the nearest corner of the room in an attempt to be as far away from you as possible, because they thought you were 'crazy.' You weren't crazy; you were my protector. You were their protector. You knew no limits and you would stop at nothing to make sure we made it home safely to our families. You took your job seriously."

Perhaps because of how seriously Major took his job, Spitaleri knows the German Shepherd would be happiest working... wherever he is.

"Please go find the nearest police officer when you get to heaven and tell them you are a police dog and you are reporting for duty. Until I see you again..."

Here's the full letter Sgt. Spitaleri wrote:

    To my faithful partner,

Today has been the most difficult day of my career. I made the decision to end your pain and suffering, however I'm hurting far more than I anticipated. I already miss you, buddy.

I remember picking you up from the airport right before we began K-9 school together. My first impression wasn't accurate. I thought you were small and you appeared to be a bit timid at first glance. I honestly didn't know if you had what it took to be a police dog. Nonetheless, we started K-9 school together in November of 2008. I quickly learned my initial assessment was wrong. You proved yourself to me time and time again. Your willingness to please me, your loyalty, and your fearlessness was very apparent as we progressed and graduated K-9 school in March 2009.

As a team, we had immediate success on the road. During our first week together that March, you successfully tracked and located a man who threatened his wife with a knife. Our skills and ability got better day in and day out from that point. Throughout the years, we located dozens of criminals, illegal narcotics, firearms, and other items of evidentiary value. These arrests and finds wouldn't have been possible without you. You made me look like a superstar at times; truth be told, I was nothing more than the guy who held your leash.

Your reputation with our coworkers was highly respected. I always laughed when we would train with the SWAT team. During those training sessions we were around some of the toughest men I have ever had the privilege of working alongside. When I would get you out of the car I would watch as these tough men would find the nearest corner of the room in an attempt to be as far away from you as possible, because they thought you were "crazy." You weren't crazy; you were my protector. You were their protector. You knew no limits and you would stop at nothing to make sure we made it home safely to our families. You took your job seriously.

I'll never forget when I would try and key the radio to talk. It never failed; as soon as I got our call sign out "K4" to the dispatcher you would begin barking so loud they couldn't hear a thing I was trying to say. I would get messages and/or requests from the dispatchers to repeat my transmissions. They knew I couldn't stand it when you "talked" over me; however it was something you never grew out of. We still laugh about it to this day.

When you retired in 2014 due to medical conditions, the adjustment to being a normal dog was difficult for you. You would watch me get ready and run to the door in anticipation of going to work. I know you didn't understand the reasons I retired you, however I did it because I loved you, buddy. I wanted to make sure your medical conditions didn't get worse. I wanted you to live a good quality life during your retirement. You deserved that and I stand by my decision. Just like you looked out for me every single shift, it was my turn to look out for you and protect you.

Although I know you didn't enjoy retirement like humans do, I'm proud to say you adjusted as much as you could. You became my wife's dog. You became my children's dog. You made sure they were protected when Daddy went to work with his new dog, Echo. You would lay by my kids' door at night while they slept, almost as if to say "I got them, Daddy, you go to work, and they'll be fine". I felt at peace knowing you were home keeping them safe. Thank you for protecting them like you protected me for all of those years.

I could go on and on about you. You made me the K-9 handler that I am today. You never met a challenge that you didn't rise to the occasion. You were a great partner and I am forever thankful for you.

Major, I love you and I will always remember our time together. Please go find the nearest police officer when you get to heaven and tell them you are a police dog and you are reporting for duty. Until I see you again………….

    Love, Dad

Disabled woman beaten bloody by TSA agents after becoming confused and afraid at security

A disabled woman was beaten bloody by federal agents during an airport security screening while on her way to undergo treatment for a brain tumor.

Hannah Cohen set off the metal detector at a security checkpoint at the Memphis International Airport, and she was led away for additional screening, reported WREG-TV.

“They wanted to do further scanning, (but) she was reluctant — she didn’t understand what they were about to do,” said her mother, Shirley Cohen.

Cohen said she tried to tell agents with the Transportation Security Administration that her 19-year-old daughter is partially deaf, blind in one eye, paralyzed and easily confused — but she said police kept her away from the security agents.

The confused and terrified young woman tried to run away, her mother said, and agents violently took her to the ground.

“She’s trying to get away from them, but in the next instant, one of them had her down on the ground and hit her head on the floor,” Cohen said. “There was blood everywhere.”

The young woman, who was returning home after finishing treatment for the brain tumor at St. Jude Hospital, was arrested and booked into jail.

Authorities eventually threw out the charges against Hannah Cohen, but her family has filed a lawsuit against Memphis police, airport police and the TSA.

Neither police department commented on the suit, but a spokesperson for the TSA said passengers should notify agents ahead of time if they have special needs.

“Passengers can call ahead of time to learn more about the screening process for their particular needs or medical situation,” said TSA spokesperson Sari Koshetz.

    Madness

The world is full of fools. And most of them wear badges these days.

The FBI's J Edgar Hoover was afraid of no one, and he wore dresses in his day.

Today we have "men" on duty, afraid of the Clintons.

    What has the world become?

And a young, disabled girl gets beaten by shitheads in TSA? Where is Justice these days?

Police Release Photo Of Possible Suspect In San Antonio Police Officer's Murder

    November 20, 2016

An officer was shot and killed Sunday outside San Antonio Police Headquarters. Police Chief William McManus identified the officer as Det. Benjamin Marconi.

    Police shooting press conference

Chief McManus explained that at about 11:40 a.m. Det. Marconi pulled over a driver for a traffic infraction downtown, near police headquarters off South Santa Rosa Avenue and West Nueva Street. Det. Marconi was in his car writing up the ticket when a black vehicle pulled up behind his patrol vehicle. The suspect exited his vehicle, walked up to the driver's window of the patrol vehicle and fired once, shooting Det. Marconi in the head. He reached in again and fired a second time.

The suspect then returned to his vehicle, drove through the police parking lot, and left the scene.

There is now a $10,000 cash reward from Crime Stoppers for information that leads to the identification and location of the shooting suspect. The suspect is a black male, about 5-foot-7. He was initially described as clean-shaven, but police now say he has a beard. He was wearing a gray shirt with black pants and driving a black Toyota or Nissan vehicle. The chief said they have no motive for the shooting at this time, but there are several angles they're looking at.

“It's everyone's worst nightmare,” said Chief McManus.

Det. Marconi, a 20-year veteran, was rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was a father of two.

“It's always difficult, especially in this day and age where police are being targeted across the country,” said Chief McManus.

If you have any information about the suspect or the incident, you're asked to call 210-224-STOP.

"Cecilia and I extend our deepest condolences to the victim's family and harshly condemn this horrific act of violence. We ask that all Texans join us in praying for the officer's loved ones as they deal with the aftermath of this unimaginable tragedy. Attacks against law enforcement officers will not be tolerated in Texas and must be met with swift justice, which is why I look forward to signing my Police Protection Act into law - making targeted attacks against law enforcement a hate crime," said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in a statement.

"I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family of the officer killed outside police headquarters today as well as to our entire police force. This type of crime cannot and will not be tolerated. I ask for the community's thoughtfulness and patience as the investigation continues and SAPD searches for the suspect," said San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor in a statement.

“We are saddened by the tragic and senseless death of an SAPD officer, whose life was cut short today while serving our community. This irrational and malicious act which took the life of one who puts his life on the line each day to serve and protect is shocking to all of us," said Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with this officer, his family, and all who serve with him. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is actively looking for the suspect and assisting SAPD in the search for this person or persons, and ready to assist in any way.”

"We received the sad news today that another Texas police officer has been killed in the line of duty. It appears the officer may have been murdered simply because he was an officer. Jan and I ask you to join us in keeping his family in our prayers," said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in a statement. "More law enforcement officers have been lost in Texas than in any other state. We cannot tolerate our police officers becoming targets on our streets when they are doing their job, which is why protecting law enforcement must remain a top priority for Texas."

“Texans grieve today, yet again, as a courageous police officer was senselessly murdered in the line of duty in San Antonio. My office will support the San Antonio Police Department however we can now and in the days ahead. Angela and I extend our prayers and deepest sympathy to this officer’s family and to his colleagues in San Antonio and around Texas," said Atty. Gen. Ken Paxton in a statement.

The San Antonio Police Department is seeking a suspect in the murder of Det. Benjamin Marconi, Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016.

Wayne State University Police Officer Dies After Being Shot Tuesday

    November 23, 2016

WSU PO Collin Rose honors the memory of fallen DPD Officer Patrick Hill by naming his new K9 partner "Wolverine" which was Hill's code name

Wayne State University Police say Officer Collin Rose has died after being shot on Tuesday night.

Wayne State University President M. Roy Wilson released this statement:

I am saddened to report that a short time ago, Wayne State University officer Collin Rose died from the gunshot wound he suffered while working in the line of duty yesterday evening.

This is a tragedy felt by all of us -- Collin and his family and friends, his fiancée, and our campus and community.

Please keep Collin and his fiancée and family in your thoughts and prayers. Collin served Wayne State with distinction, and we owe those he left behind our deepest sympathies and our strong support.

Please keep all our police officers in your thoughts as well. Collin is the first and only Wayne State officer ever to fall in the line of duty. Our officers mourn with us, but these dedicated, professional men and women continue to serve us courageously, every day. We can honor Collin’s memory best with our ongoing gratitude and support for all of our officers.

Rose, 29, was on life support at Detroit Receiving Hospital after he was shot in the head after stopping someone on a bicycle near Lincoln and Brainard around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. He died just after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Rose's family has issued the following statement:

"The family members of Collin Rose want to thank everyone for their outpouring of support. Collin loves working at Wayne State and has enjoyed the challenges of being a canine handler. We're thankful his two canine partners were not harmed and appreciate the regional law enforcement response to the crime scene. We are optimistic about his recovery and ask for your prayers during this time."

Rose was a canine officer who named his partner "Wolverine" in memory of fallen DPD Officer Patrick Hill. "Wolverine" was Hill's code name. He died in October 2013 after being shot in the line of duty by a murder suspect in April of that year.

Rose was with the Wayne State University Police Department for five years.

"This is a tragedy of immense proportions," said Dr. M. Roy Wilson, president of Wayne State University.

Officials say a Wayne State University police officer has not been shot in 36 years.

Tacoma Cop Killer Shot Dead, Used Kids As Human Shields

    November 30, 2016

A veteran police officer who was shot several times while responding to a domestic disturbance in Tacoma Wednesday afternoon has died.

The suspected gunman, a 38-year-old man, was shot and killed by authorities at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday after barricading himself inside a home with a rifle.

At a news conference, Pierce County Deputy Ed Troyer said the suspect used two children as human shields. The kids, ages 8 and 11, were were taken from the scene unharmed.

A Pierce County SWAT deputy shot the suspect while one of the children was still with him, Troyer said. The suspect has not been identified and had multiple weapons in the house.

Police officers were stationed at the house overnight after dragging the injured officer to safety.

The officer, 45, was pronounced dead at the hospital late Wednesday night, Loretta Cool, spokeswoman for the Tacoma Police Department, said.

The fallen officer still has not been publicly identified, though authorities say he had worked for Tacoma Police Department for 17 years.

The officer and his partner were called to the house, in the 400 block of East 52nd Street on Tacoma's east side, at about 4 p.m.

Police said the man and his wife had some sort of argument. The man then locked the woman out of the house.

When police arrived, they offered to help the woman—that's when when the suspect barricaded himself in the home and fired multiple shots. It's not clear if officers returned fire.

The injured officer was rushed to Tacoma General Hospital, where he later died.

Officers from Tacoma, Fife, the State Patrol, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office surrounded the neighborhood and the home, while a law enforcement helicopter shined a spotlight overhead.

Flashbangs and gunfire were heard as police attempted to force their way inside the home.

Kristi Croskey, who rents the home to the suspect and his wife, was inside the home at the time and barricaded herself in the bathroom before she was able to escape.

She said police showed up because the suspect was fighting with his wife and refused to let her back inside.

"They said they just wanted to talk to him and then gunfire started, they didn't start it," Croskey said.

Dozens of law enforcement officers, some in uniform and others in plain-clothes, lined up outside of Tacoma General Hospital to pay their respects to the fallen officer.

The officer's body was draped with an American flag and loaded into an ambulance. A procession of police vehicles then escorted the ambulance to the Pierce County Medical Examiner's office.

In a statement, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee said he and his wife Trudi were sending their thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of the officer.

"All of Washington grieves with Tacoma, which tonight lost one of their finest. Our hearts are with the men and women of the Tacoma Police Department, their families, and their brothers and sisters in law enforcement across Washington."

The shooting comes a day after the seven-year anniversary of a Lakewood shooting at a Forza Coffee shop that left four officers dead.

NYPD Officer Fatally Shot While Sitting Inside Police Vehicle In The Bronx, Suspect Killed

    July 5, 2017

An NYPD officer was assassinated early Wednesday by an ex-con who marched up to her NYPD vehicle and pumped a bullet into the helpless cop’s head, authorities said.

Officer Miosotis Familia, 48, was mortally wounded by the 12:30 a.m. gunshot on a Bronx street as she neared the end of her Fourth of July shift, cops said.

Cop-killer Alexander Bonds, dressed in black from head to toe, was then shot to death in a gunfight with two cops responding to a desperate call for help from Familia’s partner.

“Shots fired!” the officer screamed moments after the gunshot. “I need a f---ing bus! 10-85 10-85! My partner’s shot! My partner’s shot! My partner’s shot! Hurry up central!”

Police Commissioner James O’Neill said there was no doubt the paroled gunman targeted the 12-year NYPD veteran for execution at E. 183rd St. and Creston Ave.

NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia, 48, was shot and killed in the Bronx Wednesday, July 5, 2017. The suspect, Alexander Bonds, 34, was gunned down by two cops along E. 183rd St. and Creston Ave.

“Miosotis Familia has been assassinated in an unprovoked attack on cops assigned to keep New Yorkers safe,” the commissioner said via Twitter. “Keep her family in your prayers.”

Video showed Bonds walking “with purpose” toward an unsuspecting Familia, the mother of three kids, as she sat inside a mobile command center — an RV-sized truck.

Familia was filling out her NYPD memo book as the 34-year-old killer struck, firing a single shot through the passenger’s side window.

“The manner of his dress and his approach to the vehicle indicated an intent to commit a violent crime,” said a police source.

Law enforcement officers examine a mobile command post (at left) after an NYPD officer was shot while inside, and later died.

Familia, assigned to the 46th Precinct, died around 3:30 a.m. at St. Barnabas Hospital. A line of police saluted the fallen officer outside the hospital as she was escorted to the medical examiner.

A second officer was treated at the hospital for trauma, a source said.

According to sources, Bonds — who was on parole through May 2018 — opened fire on the two responding officers as he fled the murder scene.

He was killed when the two cops fired back, with an innocent bystander wounded in the crossfire.

The suspect’s silver revolver was recovered at the scene. The unidentified victim was standing next to Bonds, but had no connection to the killer, sources said. It was unclear if he was shot by the suspect or police.

Police stationed outside the slain officer’s home south of Van Cortlandt Park told two men there that Familia had been killed.

“What happened?” cried one of the men, falling into the other’s arms. “How could this happen?”

Familia, who had suffered a prior leg injury, was working steady midnight shifts in her Bronx precinct. The vehicle where she was shot was at the location around-the-clock since a triple shooting this past March, sources said.

The shooting suspect has been identified as Alexander Bonds, whose criminal rap sheet includes a prior assault on a police officer.

Her partner, who escaped uninjured, was the only other occupant of the vehicle.

Bonds’ criminal rap sheet includes a 2001 assault on a police officer with brass knuckles, a source said. He was arrested five other times, including drug possession and drug sales, sources said.

He was paroled in 2013 after serving seven years for a robbery in the Syracuse area, according to state records.

Bonds, who the source said boasts up to six different aliases, recently spoke critically of law enforcement on Facebook. He said police in Oakland, Calif., were wrong to stop a child riding a bicycle.

The suspect fired a revolver (pictured) one time at the mobile police unit, with a bullet striking the officer in an "unprovoked attack."

Familia “gave her life protecting a neighborhood that had been plagued by gang gun violence,” said police union head Pat Lynch. “As we mourn her death and support her family ... we ask for you help.

“Violence against police officers cannot stand.”

Witness Jay Marzelli initially thought the shots were holiday fireworks.

“I was in this bodega right here on Creston, just getting a sandwich and all of a sudden there was all this running and stuff going on and I look out probably 40, 50, 60 cops screaming, ‘Call a paramedic, clear the block!’ ” he said.

The body of NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia, 48, was transported to the city Medical Examiner just after 5:30 a.m.

“It looked like there was a riot going on and two seconds later I hear gunshots — ‘Bam! Bam!’ — and then the police officer was just laying there in front of the stationary precinct, right here on Creston.”

Hundreds of heavily armed police officers were on the streets surrounding the scene into the early morning hours.

Fireworks periodically lit up the night sky as residents of the Fordham Heights neighborhood continued to celebrate the Fourth of July, undeterred by the massive police presence.

“The city was celebrating our Independence Day,” said Mayor de Blasio at the hospital news conference. “One of those days we look forward to each year. The NYPD did an extraordinary job keeping our city safe ... and tragedy struck.

The pyrotechnics echoed off apartment buildings as NYPD police helicopters circled overhead, their spotlights trained on the area where the mobile command center had been stationed since March.

Streets were shut down for blocks in all directions.

“I was driving up 183rd here and cops started running up to me in a hurry screaming back up back up, we drove back in reverse about three blocks,” said Ernesto Martinez Jr. 31, who lives in the neighborhood.

“I ran over to the hospital, when I got this way cops started flooding in, man, they’ve just been coming and coming.”

A line of police officers salute as fallen officer Miosotis Famila arrives at the Medical Examiner's office.

The late-night holiday shooting was reminiscent of the December 2014 assassination of two officers as they sat in their marked police car on a Brooklyn street.

Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were targeted by a gunman who had posted anti-police messages on his social media feeds in the days before the shooting, officials said.

The officer was shot less than two miles away from where Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo was murdered by an armed ex-con in November.

Sen. Chuck Schumer tweeted his condolences on Wednesday morning: "Woke to the terrible news that Officer Miosotis Familia was shot & killed in the Bronx overnight. God bless her family & the NYPD."

    June 30, 2017

A Frisco police officer's body camera caught a mind blowing traffic stop on video he won’t soon forget.

Officer Aaron Steensma pulled over to check on what he thought was a stranded motorist. The driver explained to the officer he had just stopped to make a phone call.

The man, who turned out to be magician Rick Morrill, thanked Officer Steensma for his service and even offered to give him a little magic show.

The Frisco Police Department shared the officer’s body cam video that captured all the magic and his priceless reaction.
