***NEW CNN POLICY REGARDING PERSONAL WRITINGS ONLINE***

We’ve gotten a number of questions from CNN staff wanting clarification of CNN policy on communicating publicly about our work, or on news or public affairs -- on the internet. In Blogs. In Chatrooms. On video sharing sites. On social networking sites.

Below are some of the typical questions -- and our answers. We hope this is helpful to everyone,

After reading -- please don’t hesitate to call or email anyone at Standards and Practices if you have further questions. (See contact info below).

    MOST IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER:

UNLESS GIVEN PERMISSION BY CNN MANAGEMENT, CNN EMPLOYEES ARE TO AVOID TAKING PUBLIC POSITIONS ON THE ISSUES AND PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS ON WHICH WE REPORT.

The best rule of thumb is, keep in mind whether what you are doing or saying is "in public." In most cases, what you write online is public or can be made public.

CAN I COMMENT IN A CHAT ROOM?

It depends on what you’re commenting on. A chat room is, of course, a public place. If you identify yourself, or could in any way be identified, then you should not comment on anything CNN reports on. Remember, even though you don’t say who you are, someone else might reveal your identity. AND if you’re discussing things that are in the news, keep in mind you could be seen as representing CNN, and therefore you should not comment on the issues CNN covers.

HOW ABOUT MYSPACE, FACEBOOK OR OTHER SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES?

Again, on these sites only write about something CNN would not report on. Don't list preferences regarding political parties or newsmakers that are the subject of CNN reporting. Local issues that CNN wouldn’t report on would be OK. And of course private communication with friends or family about issues that aren’t in the news is fine. If you are not sure, ask your supervisor or S&P for parameters on posting. (S&P contact info is listed below).

Also keep in mind that you should not be commenting or writing about what goes on in the workplace at CNN without specific approval by CNN senior managers. For example, in some cases there have and will be exceptions made to have some staff get information out to an outside audience on platforms like Twitter about our upcoming coverage plans.

But without those approved exceptions, your workplace activity is proprietary and so you should not be writing on these sites about what goes on behind the scenes here at CNN.

CAN I POST MY WORK ON YOUTUBE, PODCASTS OR OTHER VIDEO SHARING SITES?

You should not post any CNN material online unless it is approved. Likewise, if you make a short video on your own time, if there’s any question about it being something that CNN might air, first ask someone before posting it. And again, if the subject touches on anything you might cover or CNN reports or may report on, you should likely stay away from it. If it is a close call, ask your supervisor or S&P.

    CAN I POST TO iReport.com?

This site was developed specifically for non-CNN material, so no, you shouldn’t. However, a separate procedure has been developed for CNN’ers to send in material. It’s called weReport and you can see the details for how it works at http://sketch.turner.com/wereport. As always, if you capture pictures or video on news stories call the national desk and they’ll help you arrange to feed it in.

    HOW ABOUT SECOND LIFE?

CNN’ers are encouraged to visit Second Life, just keep in mind it’s a public place and the same rules (listed above) apply as they would to “real” public life.

CAN I HAVE MY OWN WEBSITE OR BLOG?

Yes. But you should notify your supervisor about it, to have it cleared as a non-conflict for your work. Your supervisor may choose to then have it cleared at another level or by S&P. And again, you shouldn’t post commentary on anything you might cover in your work or CNN may report on, or write about the CNN workplace or post CNN material without permission by a senior CNN manager.

WHAT ABOUT POSTING LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES, ARTICLES FROM OTHER PUBLICATIONS AND VIDEO FROM OTHER SOURCES?

Again, if your web activity clearly shows that you are taking a position on an issue CNN reports on or is likely to report on, you should avoid such activity.

In addition, you should not operate under an alias on your website or blog in order to participate in biased public behavior. Despite your use of an alias to express a view that may present a conflict of interest, it is still your opinion. Your real identity and occupation could be revealed by someone else at any point.

WHY SHOULDN’T I COMMENT ON NEWS OR CURRENT AFFAIRS?

Unless given permission to comment publicly on the issues or people we report on as a CNN analyst or commentator, it is important that you and all other CNN employees be independent and objective regarding the news and people that we cover.

If you publicly declare your preference for issues or candidates or one side or the other of the public policy issues CNN reports on, then your ability to be viewed as objective is compromised.

We appreciate that everyone has a life outside work and we encourage all of our employees to get involved with the issues that are important within their communities. That said, you need to avoid any appearance of bias or partiality. It’s just one of the responsibilities associated with working for a news organization.

WHAT IF I DON’T WORK DIRECTLY WITH NEWS GATHERING OR NEWS REPORTING BUT ELSEWHERE WITHIN THE SUPPORTING DEPARTMENTS OF CNN?

In discussions about this issue with your colleagues across CNN, it was felt by them that it was important to have this policy apply across the board. If you don’t follow this policy, and you are officially a CNN employee, the loss of objectivity won’t just apply to you, but could be associated with CNN. Therefore this policy applies to all CNN employees in all departments worldwide.

WHAT ABOUT FREELANCE EMPLOYEES AND INTERNS?

Supervisors should make sure freelancers and interns read this policy now -- or on their first day going forward -- and commit to following it.

CAN I GIVE SPEECHES, OR WRITE ABOUT CNN?

CNN reserves the right to say who gives speeches or makes personal appearances on behalf of CNN. A number of your colleagues do give speeches to schools, colleges, and other organizations. Those requests must first be approved by your supervisor and then will go through CNN PR for review. PR will bring them to S&P for final review and approval taking into consideration who the invitation is from, the subject matter to be discussed -- and/or whether travel expenses/an honorarium are being paid. Our employees write books, and occasionally do other outside writing, but it all must be approved by your supervisor first, and then by PR and by S&P as appropriate. This policy is outlined in Section E of the Standards & Practices Policy Guide. Every employee should have a Guide and should read it and review it. (If you don't have a Guide, please ask your HR representative for one.)

From Trayvon to RussiaGate — No Media Reckoning, Only Denial and Tragedy

    JOHN NOLTE

CNN’s Brian Stelter opened his Sunday show arguing the media did nothing wrong in its coverage of the Russia Collusion Hoax. So now we know how the media will react to this latest disgrace — with denial, total and complete denial. And a gander at the media’s horror show of a rap sheet over the last five or so years helps to explain why denial is their only option at this point…

    • Trayvon Martin Murdered By Racist White Man
    • Michael Brown Yelled “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot!” Before Racist Cop Murdered Him
    • Brett Kavanaugh: Serial Rapist
    • Trump Ordered His Attorney to Lie
    • The Racist White Boys from Covington High School
    • Trump Can’t Defeat Hillary
    • Trump Is a Russian Manchurian Candidate

That list makes Rathergate look quaint.

In 2004, Rathergate was the biggest media scandal of the modern era. What distinguishes it from the scandals of last five years, though, is that Rathergate was the responsibility of one dishonest man (then CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather) and — most importantly — there were actual consequences after the hoax was exposed. On top of a total retraction from CBS, Rather and his merry team of left-wing partisans lost their jobs.

This might be hard to believe when looking at today’s media landscape, but in ’04 the media industry was still concerned with its integrity and therefore desperate to distance itself from Dan Rather’s dishonor. For days the media actually treated Rathergate like the massive scandal it was.

In other words, there was a reckoning.

Now take another look at the list above and what you will see are seven massive scandals that are not the fault of one man or even a single news outlet. Each and every one of those hoaxes was a deliberate fraud created by and spread by the entire establishment media.

Yep, they are all in on it now.

Worst still, on top of coordinating and colluding amongst themselves, to keep the fire lit under these malevolent hoaxes, the media have stooped to inventing sources, spreading fake news, and even the fabrication of evidence.

And when they are all in on it — when they are all tainted with the corruption of a mafia-esque industry driven only by partisanship, hate, and peer pressure — once one of their hoaxes is exposed there can be no accountability, no reckoning … only Omerta, only denial and the doubling down that comes with denial.

This, even though the consequence of that double down always, always, always results in a real world tragedy.

    We’ll start at the beginning…

The media — all of the media — told us the Hispanic George Zimmerman was a racist white man who hunted down and murdered teenage Trayvon Martin because he was black. CNN, NBC News, and ABC News even went so far as to fabricate evidence to convict Zimmerman.

After real evidence, eye witnesses, and a jury proved Zimmerman acted in self defense, there was no self-reflection in the media, only a tragic double down in the city of Ferguson.
Desperate to shake off the Trayvon disaster, the media spread the hoax that Michael Brown, a black man, surrendered to law enforcement with the words “Hands up, don’t shoot!” and was still murdered in cold blood by a racist, white cop.

    This was a lie.

Science and forensics proved the shooting was in self-defense, that Brown attacked the officer and tried to grab his service weapon.

The result of this double down was beyond tragic. The predominantly black, working class population of Ferguson watched their city burn for days due to race riots ginned up and enflamed by a media desperate for that exact outcome.

Fast-forward to last year when the media attempted to derail Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, as a serial rapist. When facts and evidence — some of it deliberately covered up by NBC News — proved this was all a hoax, the media tried to turn the page with another hoax: BuzzFeed’s ludicrous-on-its-face story about Special Counsel Robert Mueller being in possession of documents that proved Trump obstructed justice.

After Mueller himself debunked BuzzFeed’s lie, a desperate, unnerved, humiliated, and therefore dangerous media, was looking for anything to grab hold of when it found the neck of a child — high school junior Nick Sandmann.

To shake off the horror of their personal hero and savior Mueller exposing them as liars, the media spent an entire weekend smearing Sandmann and the rest of his innocent peers as racist villains who taunted and bullied an American Indian Vietnam Veteran.

    None of it was true.

Video of the entire event proves these Christian, pro-life, Trump supporting boys acted beyond admirably as they were taunted and bullied by black nationalists and that same American Indian — who, by the way, has never been to Vietnam.

Which brings us to this latest tragedy….

After the media spent all of 2016 looking to ensure Trump’s defeat by pretending his loss to Hillary was a foregone conclusion, once again the industry’s denial turned venomous and destructive — this time by way of the Russia Collusion Hoax.

You see, Trump colluding with Russia to steal the presidency would vindicate the media’s disastrous election coverage. It proves Hillary really did win.

And so, with the help of all the Dirty Cops in the Justice Department and intelligence community, the Russian Collusion Hoax was hatched and with it two years of us being firehosed with countless fake news “bombshells,” two years of a black cloud over a duly elected American president, and — my God — how many innocent lives destroyed by the financial and reputational disaster that always accompanies the victims of McCarthyism?

And so, the Stelteresque denials will continue, even though those denials can only result in further damage to an industry with its reputation, credibility, and moral authority already in tatters.

But like they gangsters they really are, the media have no choice. If they are to survive, it can only be through denial, through Omerta.
The sad fact is that the only audience the media have left are the left-wing loons and conspiracy theorists addicted to these hoaxes and the false hope that comes with them.

Just from a business standpoint, if the establishment media are going to survive, they must hold on to what is left of their base of support, a base made up almost entirely of customers who are themselves in desperate need of denial.

Even if the media had the moral courage ad integrity to prick that denial through the honesty and self-reflection that comes with a healthy reckoning, their pathetic base of hoax-addicts will go elsewhere, and then the financial bottom falls out.

These lying, indecent, un-American gangsters have trapped themselves in their own vicious circle, and now it’s a swirl that’s taken their credibility and ability to sway public opinion right down the toilet drain.

This is a good thing, a great thing…

Tucker Carlson: CNN is really a super PAC, colluding with the Democratic Party on the news you hear

By Tucker Carlson | Fox News

We want to tell you a story about collusion, a real one -- an actual collusion that's currently in progress.
There are no shadowy hackers or imaginary rendezvous in Prague. In this story, there's not a single Russian spy or secret sex tape. There's nothing shadowy about the collusion we're going to tell you about. It takes place right out in the open on live television. This is a story about where your news comes from.

This past Sunday afternoon, we learned that the Trump campaign did not collude with the government of Russia. That was the conclusion of Robert Mueller's investigation, an investigation that spent two years exhaustively looking into the question. This was very good news for America -- we don't have a spy in the White House. But it was apocalyptic for the Democratic Party and their press agents in the news media.

These are the people who would stake their reputations and their fortunes on the collusion hoax -- and they were stunned. Befuddled politicians stammered on television, trying to figure out what to say about the news. Viewers of liberal media outlets didn't want to hear anything about it. Huge numbers of them just quit watching immediately. On Tuesday night, CNN's 8 p.m. show lost nearly 50 percent of its viewers.

For progressive channels, this was a catastrophe. Something had to be done. So into this disaster steps the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. On Monday, just hours after the collusion story collapsed, Pelosi announced that the Democratic Party would be switching gears. Going forward, Democrats would focus intently on health care, just like she disingenuously claimed they always had.

"We've never taken our focus away," she said. "I hope that it focuses the press on these issues."

"I hope the press focuses healthcare," Pelosi said. She didn't have to ask twice. At CNN, they were paying close attention to every word Pelosi uttered. To Jeff Zucker and the anchors who work for him at CNN, Pelosi isn't just a politician, she's the leader of the party -- their party. The party under whose banner Zucker has said he may someday run for office.

When America's most powerful Democrat speaks, CNN listens with pen in hand. These are marching orders, and the network swung into action immediately. The rundowns of every primetime show were scrapped and rebuilt. Gone were the segments about office towers in Moscow and Carter Page's spying and Don Jr. going to prison. In their place, long editorials about health care. The Democratic health care plan is sensible and necessary, CNN told us. The Republican plan - cruel and heartless.

Between 7 p.m. and midnight Tuesday night, every show on CNN followed Nancy Pelosi's instructions. Every single show talked about health care, and every single one channeled Nancy Pelosi's views on health care. She could have been writing the scripts; maybe she was.

Nobody hit that topic harder than an anchor called Chris Cuomo. Cuomo is the son of the former Democratic governor of New York and the brother of the current Democratic governor of New York. He spends a lot of time telling you what a committed journalist he is, probably because his instincts are so obviously political.

On Tuesday night, the governor's brother read his party's talking points as if off a cue card. Close your eyes and imagine you're listening to a 30-second attack ad on the radio during campaign season. See if you can tell the difference.

"Our president said today that the GOP will be known as the party of health care, but it seems to me he left out a word," Cuomo said. "Based on his administration's latest move with the ACA, the president will make his party about removing health care. This president and his party have no plan to provide care to tens of millions if the ACA is gone. Why? Why? Why? Welcome to the new normal."

"They're taking your healthcare away." If you're waiting to hear the "Paid for by the Kamala Harris for President committee" line, they left that out. They shouldn't have. The law requires it, but they did anyway.

Don Lemon hosts the next show in CNN's lineup. As a person, Lemon isn't nearly as political as the governor's brother is. He's a local news guy at heart, the former weekend anchor at a station in Birmingham. He's not into policy.
On the other hand, Don Lemon has a very sweet gig, and he knows it. So when Jeff Zucker calls and tells him to talk about health care, he does. And, of course, he did.

"The president says the GOP is going to be the party of health care," Lemon said. "Then why is his Justice Department saying the Affordable Care Act should be struck down? The president has said again and again that he wanted to protect pre-existing conditions. Is this yet another lie from the president?"

CNN is not a news outlet, it's a super PAC. It is running unregulated campaign ads 24 hours a day. Someone ought to call the FEC about it.

"Yet another lie" on health care. At no point did any of the anchors on CNN mention what was so glaringly obvious. In the space of just 24 hours, that channel went from the Russia conspiracy network to an extended advertisement for the Affordable Care Act, as written by Barack Obama. The viewers, those who remained, must have wondered what the hell was going on. Where's my segment about how Don, Jr. is going to prison. I want to hear more about that. But no. On Pelosi's orders, it was "Health Care Week" on CNN.

And they were back at it on Wednesday morning, assiduously. Starting at 6:00 a.m., every single show on CNN's morning lineup and all through the day regurgitated Pelosi's talking points to the word about health care. Republicans will make you sick, only Democrats will make you well. Every single show made that point. If you were stuck in the airport, it was like living in North Korea. A speaker bolted to the wall above your head blaring an endless loop of propaganda you can't turn off.

We have no idea what they've been showing over on CNN for the past four hours. We had to turn it off at 4:00 p.m. But if we had to guess, it was health care. Oh, I'm sorry ... I'm getting word -- I'm sorry, we have a news alert now. According to our producers, who are monitoring the situation, both CNN and MSNBC are talking about --that's right -- health care. Right now. Health care. Pelosi's orders.

What does that tell you? It tells you where your news comes from. Democratic officials pick the topic and the storyline. Their servants in cable news dutifully repeat it to the word, all day long.

CNN is not a news outlet, it's a super PAC. It is running unregulated campaign ads 24 hours a day. Someone ought to call the FEC about it.

Chris Cuomo Defends Left-wing Terrorist Group Antifa as 'Good Cause'

    JOHN NOLTE

CNN’s Chris Cuomo once again defended the left-wing terrorist group Antifa, this time declaring them a “good cause.”

The far-left Cuomo’s abiding affection for these black-clad, fully masked terrorists and the violence they commit, not just against neo-Nazis, but police officers, journalists, and everyday citizens, reveals a lot about the dangerous radicalism of the basement-rated CNN.

Late last year Cuomo openly embraced political violence against the right with a fascist rant defending Antifa’s brutality and bloodshed.

“It’s not about being right in the eyes of the law,” Cuomo said in defense of Antifa, “but you also have to know what’s right and wrong in a moral, in a good and evil sense.”

“That’s why people who show up to fight against bigots are not to be judged the same as the bigots, even if they do resort to the same kinds of petty violence,” he added.

    “Fight.”

What you have there is a CNN anchor justifying violence against “bigotry” in a world where his fake news network is defining Christians as bigots for opposing gay marriage, Republicans as bigots for not voting for Barack Obama, and 16-year-old boys as bigots for wearing Make America Great Again hats.

In other words, Cuomo and CNN are justifying violence against all of us, everyone to the right of Bernie Sanders.

Cuomo once compared these Antifa terrorists, these modern-day brownshirts who attack police officers and regularly assault journalists, to the American servicemen who stormed the beaches at Normandy.

    That’s a not a joke. It’s right here…

    Let's not forget pic.twitter.com/q5wjVmZylR
    — Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) August 16, 2017

But-but-but they fight bigotry, Cuomo argues — which is like arguing we need to remember Mussolini kept the trains running on time, Hitler built the autobahn, Mao fought for equality, and Stalin threw good dinner parties…

Now listen to Cuomo attempt to justify mob violence if it’s in service to a “good cause.”

“You can talk about Antifa, I’ve watched them in streets protesting in different situations, OK?” Cuomo argued. “There are certainly aspects of them that are true to a cause, that is a good cause, they want social justice, they want whatever they want in that context.”

CNN’s Chris Cuomo says Antifa is “a good cause” pic.twitter.com/mCMgoyPszQ
    — Ryan Saavedra (@RealSaavedra) April 30, 2019

Sorry, decent people do not split hairs to excuse, champion, and encourage evil.
Decent people remember that every one of history’s monsters, from Hitler to Lenin to Castro to Pol Pot, believed they were fighting a “good cause” — some even believed they were fighting against bigotry and for social justice. So let’s use this opportunity to examine Cuomo’s definition of “social justice.”

Some of you might remember that Fredo’s twisted idea of “social justice” is to expose young girls to a penis without their consent.

And let’s not forget that Cuomo’s warped idea of “social justice” also includes a return to McCarthyism, to a dark era where we blacklist people who express inappropriate ideas.

Cuomo’s guest Steve Cortes tried reasoning with him.

“Chris, Antifa is not a good cause,” he said. “Antifa does not have good aims, Antifa wants power, wants political power, taken through force. That’s what Antifa is all about.”
But Cuomo already knows this. Fredo’s watched Antifa assault police offers, assault journalists, terrorize Tucker Carlson’s wife, assault everyday people simply enjoying their right to assemble, and like the Southern Democrats of old, he’s watched Antifa bully a black woman out of a restaurant.

Forget all that, though, and ask yourself on what planet does a decent person even attempt to defend a gang of thugs who dress all in black, wear masks, and brandish weapons?

Well, that planet is called CNN.

You see, Antifa is okay with CNN because Antifa are their brownshirts, their terrorists, their violent gang of thugs taking it to we Trumptards who dare to point and laugh at CNN, who dare not recognize CNN’s authority and wisdom.

Here’s some truth: CNN thrills over the “petty” ultra-violence Antifa unleashes against the political right. In the sick and sinister minds that run that Hate Network, Trump supporters got it coming, which is why — and this is important…

Cuomo and his far-left confederates regularly encourage these terrorists.

That’s what’s really going on here.

Cuomo’s not just splitting the Hitler-and-the-autobahn hair to keep the debunked Charlottesville Hoax alive, he is using every opportunity to fire off a dogwhistle, to give his brownshirts a wink of encouragement and a nod of approval.

CNN’s association with, encouragement of, and affection for political violence has been well documented over the years, and as we get closer to the 2020 presidential election, it is only going to get worse… Much worse.

All Cuomo is doing here is prepping a battlefield CNN wants to see bloodied.

P.S. Eighty-nine million who do not watch CNN are subsidizing this hate. Are you one of them?

Anchor Jeff Glor odd man out after massive CBS reshuffle of 'Evening News,' 'This Morning'

    Brian Flood

Anchor Jeff Glor is out as the anchor of CBS' "Evening News" after a massive shakeup at the network's struggling news division announced on Monday morning.

Norah O’Donnell will replace Glor as anchor of “CBS Evening News,” while Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil will join Gayle King as co-hosts of “CBS This Morning.” John Dickerson has been removed from the morning show and will report for “60 Minutes” and help anchor political coverage, while a role for Glor is currently uncertain.

“This is a start of a new era for CBS News,” CBS News president Susan Zirinsky said in a statement. “Our job is to reveal America to itself through original reporting, strong investigative journalism and powerful political coverage.”

O’Donnell was also named Managing Editor of the evening newscast and will relocate to Washington, D.C. this fall. She will be the network’s lead anchor for political coverage.

“Norah is one of the leading journalists of our time. Her outstanding reporting, incisive interviews and dedication to the truth will distinguish the CBS EVENING NEWS every night,” Zirinsky said.

Changes at CBS News have been rumored since Zirinsky replaced David Rhodes earlier this year. Glor is the loser of the shakeup, as the now-former “Evening News” anchor is left without a permanent gig.

“We are grateful to Jeff Glor for his award-winning work and his commitment to both his colleagues and to our viewers. As we transition the ‘Evening News’ to Washington, we are discussing opportunities for Jeff to remain with CBS News and continue providing the same substantive, trusted reporting that he has been offering for the past 12 years,” Zirinsky said.

The network’s news division has struggled since veteran anchor Charlie Rose was ousted as a result of sexual harassment allegations at the height of the #MeToo era. Glor’s newscast regularly placed third, behind rivals NBC and ABC in the ratings department. He replaced Scott Pelley in 2017.
