    Default I feel a draft

After a heated discussion with a friend last weekend I have changed my position on reinstating the draft. Just like the 60's, there would be certain defferments, but for the most part if you are not in school you would be eligiable for the military.

I believe Israel has manditory military service to this day.

This is also my first attempt at a poll , so here goes with one vote for....

    In favor, option 1

    Opposed, option 2

    Opposed.

If we go to war, as in World War three... then all bets are off. Otherwise... no draft.

I have a better idea... Heinlein....

If you do 3-4 goverment service you get to be a citizen and can vote or run for office.

If you don't, you're shit out of luck and keep you fucking mouth shut

I would have to say that with affairs as they are now, I am opposed. Right now we have a very high quality, all volunteer military full of people that really want to be there. I don't think it would be a great idea to dilute what we have with people of a lesser caliber that may not want to be there. If the military needs more boots filled, they can always up the payscale to compete with the private sector for "employees". Now, if things flare up on a major scale, then that would probably change things. After all, that's what the draft (and "well regulated militia"!) should be for.

I lean toward what Rick mentioned with Heinlein's model, a la Starship Troopers.

Opposed. You end up with substandard troops who don't want to be there and you can't count on.

I think there is a very fine line between "draft" and "mandatory service."

As things sit right now, I voted “opposed to draft.”

If we need more troops and no one volunteers, then reinstate the draft.

Otherwise in my utopia, I would like to see mandatory service for all.

I seem to be a party of one.

At least now I know how to do the poll thing.

    Thanks for all opinions.

Like everyone else, I think the only time a draft is a normal, important, perhaps required thing, would be when we're at war like world war.

I wouldn't want to see everyone drafted period.
