Al Gore is fat, he is wrong, and he's a loser. He has NO IDEA what Americans are like in the Tea Party. He has NO IDEA who started it, funded it or is continuing to support them, whether quietly or loudly.

From London to Philadelphia, youths erupting over theft of their futures

By Courtland Milloy, Published: August 9

    This morning I woke up in a curfew;
    O God, I was a prisoner, too — yeah!

Looting and arson run rampant as riots spread throughout London and extended to other major cities three days after a 29-year-old man was killed by police.

    Video

The rioting in Britain has moved north from London to the cities of Manchester and Birmingham. British police have increased their numbers and are chasing down trouble before it begins. (Aug. 9)

    Could not recognize the faces standing over me;
They were all dressed in uniforms of brutality.
    — From Bob Marley’s “Burnin’ and Lootin’ ”

From D.C. to London, Philadelphia to Liverpool, Milwaukee to Bristol, law-abiding citizens say they just can’t figure out what’s up with these rampaging urban youths. Perhaps I can help. Think of their aberrant behavior as the alley version of the Wall Street bum rush and rip-off.

First there were flash mobs of bankers and mortgage lenders picking pockets, looting businesses, taking over homes and torching jobs. Now come the young marauders — using a crude version of the same tactics, striking out in anger over the theft of their futures. Outraged that some would even blame them for the loss of their economic prospects.

At a recent town hall meeting on jobs, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray heard one youngster after another complain about the lack of employment opportunities in the city. One of them handed him 10 pages of signatures she’d collected from youths in her neighborhood who were looking for jobs.

An impressive show of civic-mindedness, to which Gray responded:

“The people who didn’t get jobs, I’m inclined to believe it’s their fault,” he said. “They didn’t do anything to help themselves.”

You don’t have to approve of flash mobs to understand how one might erupt on the spot.

In Philadelphia this past weekend, Mayor Michael A. Nutter made an even nuttier remark in the aftermath of a downtown flash mob attack.

“If you walk into somebody’s office with your hair uncombed and a pick in the back, and your shoes untied and your pants half down, tattoos up and down your arms and on your neck, and you wonder why somebody won’t hire you?” Nutter lectured. “They don’t hire you because you look like you’re crazy.”

In the United States, the unemployment rate among black teenagers is 39.2 percent, compared with 23 percent for white teenagers. These numbers aren’t the result of black youngsters not combing their hair. Or not doing anything to help themselves. It’s the result of politicians reneging on promises to come up with policies and strategies for creating jobs and job-training programs.

According to a 2009 report by the District’s Healthy Families, Thriving Communities Collaborative Council, more than 100 gangs and neighborhood “crews” operate in the city — the heart of a flash mob — and the use of semiautomatic weapons is on the rise.

“Over the past 15 years, numerous plans, reports and proposals addressing youth violence prevention in the District have been prepared by both public and private agencies,” the report said. Providing job opportunities has always been strongly recommended. “Unfortunately, of those recommendations funded and implemented, most have been short lived due to budgetary constraints or diminished political support.”

The Washington Post noted Tuesday that former London mayor Ken Livingstone believed the unrest in that city was the result of pent-up resentment “over the weak economy, high unemployment rates and historically deep budget cuts that are decreasing government funding for poor communities and grass-roots charities.”

Livingstone got it. Hopefully more politicians in this country will, too. In London, the flash point for the unrest was a police shooting of a black man.

We need not wait for that to happen here before taking preventive action.

It should be noted that London was one of the first cities to use the “Mosquito,” a device that emits a high-pitched sound aimed at irritating youthful ears and discouraging them from congregating in certain public places.

About 3,500 were deployed. Clearly, somebody got irritated. And now the city is in flames.

Another city where the Mosquito was deployed, albeit for a much shorter time: the District. But it should be clear by now that harassing and insulting youngsters only makes the problem worse.

Feeling disrespected and often outright ignored, many of them are threatening to destroy what they can’t have. And why not? The strategy worked so well for tea party anarchists that even President Obama started paying attention.

I am listening to Glen Beck, something I rarely do.

he is going on about how all the dominoes are set to fall and the US will look like London soon.

Not sure how much of his ranting I can take....

A lady has called into Beck and reporting something called "Hoover Homes" or tents.

Lots of people living in tents in the Philly area down near I-95.

    It sounds weird.

She took vegetables to them and a man PUNCHED her for bringing food and not MONEY.

So-called Homeless people... who aren't really homeless.

Can anyone verify this is happening elsewhere?

    LOL

This is EXACTLY why liberals don't get it.

I think somewhere in the Financial Crisis thread are a couple posts about the "Obama-villes" (play on the Hoovervilles that appeared during the Great Depression) that have popped up due to the poor economic conditions. Couldn't tell you which page but it is in the open thread going now, not the closed one.

Anticipating the Coming Convulsions as the Welfare State Dies

    by Kurt Schlichter

It’s already happening – the liberal dream of a perpetual social welfare state where deadbeat liberal constituencies feed off of the work of productive conservative citizens in perpetuity is dying. There’s no doubt about that; the only question left is how long and hard the process will be as the hideous leviathan the utopian liberal establishment has created convulses and dies.

It’s going to die hard. And ugly.

The collapse is well-underway in Europe – Greece has gone from the cradle of democracy to a cesspool of union-fueled mobs – but America faces the same trauma. As the contradictions inherent in the vision of a societal plan based on the notion that an ever-expanding pool of Democratic-voting serfs sucking the wealth away from the mostly Republican-oriented producers who labored to create it become more apparent, the reactions and rear-guard efforts of the terminal liberal elite will grow more extreme.

We are already seeing the liberal elite lash out in anger and frustration at what is a perfect storm of failure. Glenn Reynolds, the legendary Instapundit, chronicles the daily disintegration, while the brilliant Mark Steyn’s cheery new book, After America: Get Ready for Armageddon, drops on August 8, 2011 – I’ll race you to Amazon to get a copy.

As the three components of the liberal establishment – the media, the unions and politicians – rage at the dying of the liberal light, the insanity meter will swing far into the red. It’s already begun. The Tea Party has dared to speak the truth, and the uncomfortable realities it has pointed out have destroyed the bogus consensus that has allowed the debt Titanic to sail giddily on toward the iceberg. That’s why the establishment response is to demonize the popular movement. We’re “terrorists” or “lunatics” or, bizarrely, “hobbits.” Our crime is telling the truth.

Never mind that the Tea Party candidates were absolutely clear about their debt crisis solution when running for election – the voters spoke.

Apparently, the only polls that matter get taken around the tables at Manhattan and Georgetown dinner parties – and, oddly, the results are always unanimous in favor of a “compromise” that tries to shore-up the crumbling status quo.

The problem with the Tea Party is not what it does – at best, right now, it can only make a moral and political case; it does not have the numbers to make anything happen without non-Tea Partiers joining it. The problem with the Tea Partiers, in the eyes of the liberal establishment and the pet moderate GOP enablers, is that it dares to point out the indisputable truth that must be hidden at all costs: That the social welfare state is unsu

stainable and will collapse. But the demonization campaign does not seem to be working as expected – amazingly, the Tea Party caucus was able to provide the missing spine to the go-along/get-along gang running the House and present a primary-based incentive to the collegial Senate Republicans who have to face the voters next year and don’t want to join booted squish ex-Utah senator Bob Bennett in his new sinecure as the MSM’s go-to, slam-the-conservatives, pseudo-GOP nobody. While the resulting deal was terrible, it was still a massive humiliation for the liberal establishment. They are not in a forgiving mood, and it’s easier to hate on the Tea Party than face the fact that they’ve driven us to bankruptcy.

So when demonization doesn’t work, government lifers like Senator Kerry advocate silencing the opposition. One might think that a United States senator demanding that the media refuse to report the views of his political opponents because too many people are accepting them might stir some outrage in the media. But then, if you did, you probably might believe in unicorns, leprechauns and global warming as well.

Instead of a chorus of outrage at this creepy fascism, the media elite seem to think this is a great idea. But that should not be a surprise. The media – at least the old media (call it the MSM) – is dying, killed off not only by technology that allows conservatives to evade the gates it used to defend to prevent the political discourse from being contaminated with ideas that challenge its foundational liberal premises. It is grasping at a life preserver, trying to take in a few more lungfuls of air before it sinks under forever.

With the establishment politicians far “out of their depth” in response to the coming crisis, watch for more moves by the Left not to resolve the situation but to kill the messenger. Do not put it past the elite to actually try again to limit debate using law and/or regulations. They still salivate at the notion of killing off conservative radio by resurrecting the Orwellian Fairness Doctrine, and the government at one point argued that it had the right to criminally prosecute citizens for publishing a book critical of politicians until it backed down. Note that the MSM strongly supports these forays into fascism – not surprising since they think that the Constitution that allows conservatives’ voice to be heard is a “problem.”

But it will be impossible to regulate conservative opposition out of existence – not just because of the First Amendment but because the coming reckoning will be so severe that it can no longer be swept under the rug.

Yet, rug sweeping will become their next strategy. Playing off the demonization tactics, they will continue to attempt to engage moderate – read “squishy” – Republicans toward some sort of “compromise” that will give them just a bit more time before everything comes crashing down. Watch for this when the “Super Commission” comes back with its plan. Their goal – get past November 2012 then hopefully use the crisis to their advantage to turn the ship of state even harder to port.

But that’s a fool’s errand. The DC establishment can ignore math, but math won’t ignore it. There is simply not enough wealth that exists or can be imagined into existence through borrowing to support the redistributionist utopia they seek. Greece is a harbinger of the future. The EU will cobble together a bogus bailout that will keep the Hellenic rowboat afloat just a bit longer before it is swamped, but Zorba best learn to swim because it is going under.

Then the other failed states of Europe – Ireland, Spain, Italy, Portugal – will collapse too, taking with them Europe’s banks and our banks along with them. The only reason we won’t fail first – S&P did not act too early but, rather, far too late in downgrading the US – is that Europe’s social democratic elite is even more delusional than ours.

It’s over. The system must crash and reboot. The choice is a hard landing or a harder landing.

The prescription is clear to anyone looking at the situation, except for the establishment that will not see it because to admit what must be done and embrace it means to wave goodbye to its members’ power, prestige and position. We need to slash spending to less than the revenue we take in – the difference going to pay off the $14 trillion-plus tab. And we need to do it now, not in some hazy future where some other Congress will have to make the tough calls – though reality may just make them for it.

That means a radical return to Constitutional government where the federal government goes back to what it was formed to do – those things set forth in the Constitution and nothing else. The relatively easy part will be zeroing out the cowboy poetry slams, largely unwatched government TV networks and creepy shrimp-on-a-treadmill study grants.

The hard part is the entitlements all of us were promised and none of us will ever see. It means repealing Obamacare, but moreover returning the responsibility for health care to where it belongs – the individual. The same with retirement – Social Security is a ponzi scheme and everyone knows it.

Government student loans, farms subsidies, corporate bailouts, food stamps, Section 8 housing – none of these are federal responsibilities.

These should be eliminated not only because they are counterproductive, ineffective and soul-crushing for recipients but because if we don’t do it on our own terms fiscal reality will do it for us cold turkey. And let’s not forget eliminating vast swaths of federal regulations – something that will both free up business and have the added benefit of dumping hundreds of thousands of government loafers off of Uncle Sam’s payroll.

There is a major change coming, and it could get ugly. Union members will do their masters’ bidding with the support of the MSM, threatening violence and maybe committing some. Look for well-planned and carefully-coordinated “spontaneous” mass marches on public buildings by scores of public employee union slugs demanding we keep subsidizing their retirements at full pay at age 50.

Fortunately, again as observed by Glenn Reynolds, the present crop of union activists aren’t the hardscrabble blue collar bruisers of the storied past. Today, most seem to be skinny green tea-sipping public school teachers, naggy Department of Weights & Measures diversity officers, or massive welfare-dispensing office drones clad in form-fitting purple size-XXXXL SEIU t-shirts that were made in China. Not exactly a fearsome crew, unless you’re between them and a muffin.

The Tea Party did not cause what will be a brutal reckoning. It only pointed out the truth and said, “No more” – an unforgivable crime to the people who caused this disaster and want to keep milking the system for as long as possible. The key to getting through the coming trauma – and it will be traumatic, as the social contract the liberals unilaterally imposed is rewritten by an implacable reality – is for the productive citizens of the United States to stand firm and stand fast. In other words, just the way Americans have gotten through every other crisis we’ve faced before.

America’s greatest days need not be in the past. Guided by the Founder’s vision and the principles of the Constitution, we will find that they lie ahead, over just one more hill.

It's not unusual for homeless or hungry people to be bitter and somewhat violent.

Very poor people are often so poor due to their own bad judgement, etc., often bad habits_ drugs/drunks/ extensive lust or laziness.

Great saints aquire "saint points" tolerating the abuse they receive from those they help.

I've worked in various soup kitchens both in US & Mexico, and also seen and worked about "shelters" in Mexico, as well as a shelter in US (D.C.).

Muslims complain about bacon & pork, but they eat it anyway.
Beck's idea about charity is kool, but what donut is gonna give spinach and cabbage to someone who wants tuna fish & coke(pun intended.)

The prince to pauper routine is not pleasant, and will become more frequent.

Conclusion: the dem-pub- roll de ball along panel should vote madre Teresa as CEO and put some rice in the soup. Or potatoes.

people have been formed "ungrateful" due to the gramchi revolution.
only constant prayer or patience will root out the weeds.

I'm thankful to God today. My first 2 seedlings of pistachio saw the light of day. Over 200 planted. Paid 2 bucks for the seed. Pistachio was one of the items offered by Joseph & pharoah to Jacob & family in time of famine to save the nation of Israel.

Cops Say Attacks at Wis. State Fair Won‘t Be Prosecuted as ’Hate Crimes’
    August 10, 2011

West Allis, WI police have released a statement saying that incidents at the Wisconsin State Fair, where many witnesses say large groups of black men attacked white fair patrons, will not be prosecuted as “hate crimes.” TMJ 4 reports on the new information released by police:
“The police department issued a statement with details of arrests, saying ‘None of these incidents possessed elements that would compel the pursuance of a ‘hate crime’ prosecution.”

Witnesses reported attacks on the opening night of the fair that seemed to be racially motivated with young African Americans beating up white fair goers, but police say at this point there is not enough evidence to support such claims.”
The Blaze reported Friday on the mayhem that ensued at Wisconsin State Fair on Thursday night. Here are some accounts of what witnesses claim to have experienced:
“I had a black couple on my right side, and these black kids were running in between all the cars, and they were pounding on my doors and trying to open up doors on my car, and they didn’t do one thing to this black couple that was in this car next to us. They just kept walking right past their car. They were looking in everybody’s windshield as they were running by, seeing who was white and who was black. Guarantee it.”

“I saw them grab this wide kid who was probably 14 or 15 years old. They just flung him into the road. They just jumped on him and started beating him. They were kicking him. He was on the ground. A girl picked up a construction sign and pushed it over on top of him. They were just running by and kicking him in the face.”
The Justice Department defines hate crime as the “violence of intolerance and bigotry, intended to hurt and intimidate someone because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious, sexual orientation, or disability.”
“The purveyors of hate use explosives, arson, weapons, vandalism, physical violence, and verbal threats of violence to instill fear in their victims, leaving them vulnerable to more attacks and feeling alienated, helpless, suspicious and fearful. Others may become frustrated and angry if they believe the local government and other groups in the community will not protect them. When perpetrators of hate are not prosecuted as criminals and their acts not publicly condemned, their crimes can weaken even those communities with the healthiest race relations.”
Do you think police made the right call in interpreting the motives of attackers at the Wisconsin State Fair Thursday night?

Turns Out Philly Street Mob is From School That Got $1M From Oprah

A new video of Philadelphia street attacks has surfaced—and this time the teen perps are students from a charter school that received a $1 million donation from Oprah Winfrey, according to Fox 29, which obtained the footage.

Caught On Tape: Philadelphia Teen Mob Attack: MyFoxPHILLY.com

The incident occurred July 29—the same day flash mob attacks took place in another section of the city—just blocks from Mastery Charter High School. Students in the video face expulsion or suspension, school officials wrote in a letter to residents in the area where the attack took place.

Sources told Fox 29 that man attacked in the video was hospitalized with injuries to his head and teeth. No charges have been filed so far, police told Fox 29.

“It makes me sick,” said Mastery CEO Scott Gordon.”We’re very very upset about it, that any student, but particularly a student that’s been in a Mastery school, would behave like that, to think that that’s okay, is very disturbing.”

Mastery’s parent company received $1 million from Winfrey last September as part of her Angel Network.

New 911 police tapes from Wisconsin State Fair released

By Mike Mullen Thu., Aug. 11 2011 at 7:49 AM

    Categories: Crime

Hate crimes charges might still be filed in incidents from that night.

A huge fresh batch of 911 tapes has been released by the West Allis Police Department, shedding new light on the racially-fraught crime wave that gripped the Wisconsin State Fair last Thursday.

Call after call came in to the 911 dispatcher, each sounding similar but adding a new story:

"Hi I'm calling because my kids came from the state fair and they were attacked by a group of black people that opened the car door and started punching them," one woman tells the dispatcher.

    Then, another caller:

"Hi, uhm, there was like 25 black kids that were trying to jump a State Fair park worker," a woman says.

Meanwhile, West Allis police say race did play a factor in 11 incidents they're investigating from that night, including nine assaults, and that it might still charge some of the incidents from that night as "hate crimes," according to Milwaukee radio station WTMJ.

Many of the tapes, which were obtained by WTMJ, sound like echoes of each other.

VIDEO OF THE VIOLENCE: Cell phone footage WI State Fair wilding [VIDEO]

One caller just after 11:30 said he "just wanted to make sure somebody got to the kid who was getting, just, pummeled on the side of the road."

    WTMJ Milwaukee
Police dispatchers were overwhelmed by reports of violence.

"The African Americans that were beating the hell out of him pulled him up off the sidewalk into the bush," he says. And then: "And the security guard, the African American lady that was working that gate, her ass needs to be fired, because she didn't do a damn thing. She just stood there and watched."

In another tape, a man who sounds drunk or dizzy tells the dispatcher he was jumped and beaten, and eventually turns his rage on her.
"Yeah, there's a group of African Americans that are walking down 75th Street, going north, that thought it was okay to have a law abiding citizen walking by... and they just jump me, what?"

"Do you need an ambulance, sir?"

    "No I don't need an ambulance. I'm bleeding but I don't give a shit."

    "Do you want an ambulance?"

"No I don't want a fucking ambulance. Send some squads, arrest these people."

"We have squads all over the area you're going to have to walk up to an officer and find one."

"Walk up to an officer? I don't see an officer anywhere what are you talking about?"

"We have about 20 squads all around the general area."
"I mean this is what I gotta go through, I pay taxes and I'm walking down the fucking street -- really? -- and this is what the fuck happens, some stupid fucking black motherfuckers, they think they can just punch people, really?"
Wisconsin State Fair police arrested 23 people during the violence, all but one of them between the ages of 15 and 20, and West Allis Police arrested another seven. Police reports from the incident are expected to come out later today.

Economic Woes Lead to Proliferation of Tent Cities Nationwide

    By Joshua Rhett Miller
    Published August 11, 2011
    | FoxNews.com

Lakewood, N.J. – While millions of Americans hold their collective breath as Wall Street wreaks havoc with their life savings and retirements, residents of Tent City, a tiny makeshift community about 70 miles south of New York City, have more immediate concerns: finding their next hot meal.

For this collective of homeless and unemployed former landscapers, service industry workers and military veterans, the mention of "tarp" is sure to start a conversation about temporary rooftops, rather than a debate over President Obama's $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program.
At Tent City in Lakewood, N.J., very few are lucky enough to leave.
It seems like a scene straight from "The Grapes of Wrath," but this is no Great Depression novel. This story takes place in 2011, and this New Jersey tent city is one of an untold number of such encampments across the United States, where unemployment has reached 9.3 percent and approximately 3.5 million people are likely to be homeless in a given year, according to the most recent estimates by the National Coalition for the Homeless.

Joe Giammona, 31, has been homeless for nearly four months, after moving from Florida following a relationship that "just didn't work out," he said. He briefly stayed at a rooming house in Asbury Park, N.J., but the accompaning drugs and violence chased him away. A former landscaper and general contractor, Giammona lost his job when his boss had to slash payroll.

"Ever since then, it's been impossible to find a job," he said. "They're just not hiring at this time. I've been everywhere."

Clad in a "Cape Cod" T-shirt, black sweatpants and filthy white sneakers, Giammona said he has relatives throughout New Jersey but refuses to "accept help" from anyone.

"I try to make the best of it," he said, while turning a hot dog on an outdoor grill. "I hope for hope."

Despite the optimistic outlook, Giammona, who looks for employment daily at nearby industrial parks or for any odd job as a day laborer, said life outside is no picnic.

"You're either rich or you're poor," he said. "There's no in-between anymore."

The Rev. Steven Brigham of the Lakewood Outreach Community Service Ministry established this tent city five years ago for Ocean County, N.J.'s unemployed and disenfranchised residents, many of whom had previously lived paycheck to paycheck. Whether by loss of a job, the death of a loved one or a failed marriage, the American Dream has turned into a waking nightmare for the camp's inhabitants.

The 2-acre, public-owned campsite, which sits just off a state road, is composed of dozens of tents, teepees and wooden shanties that will easily buckle with winter's first heavy snowfall. Residents cook food donated by local churches on outdoor grills, and there's even a shower room. When nature calls, outhouses are found fully stocked, and portable generators provide just enough juice to charge cell phones or fire up the radio for that night's ball game.

The amenities might be sparse, but for those in the "homeless hole," they can be invaluable to the soul, according to Brigham.

"Once you fall into the homeless hole, as I call it, it's very difficult to claw your way back out," he said. "But it does happen."

Marilyn Berenzweig, 60, and her husband Michael have been living in Lakewood's tent city for 17 months. Previously of Queens, New York, Berenzweig worked as a textile designer, but lost her job due to the souring economy.

"That's an industry that has almost completely vanished in the last few years," she said. "All of my friends are out of work. It's all gone to China."

Berenzweig, an avid reader who doesn't watch television, studies survivalist skills, particularly how early American housewives maintained a fire, chopped wood and heated water for cooking and cleaning.

"Survival is very hard without the modern conveniences," she said. "We took about a month to prepare and I camped as a child, but [Michael] kept saying, 'What do you mean no electricity?' But really, we're busy most of the day."

Berenzweig -- whose wooden shack is flanked by caged birds, including a talking starling -- said most of the campers are comfortable with the surroundings.

"We manage to adapt and make the environment adapt to us, too," she said. "I could live here for the rest of my life, that wouldn't bother me."

Ocean County officials, however, are currently entrenched in a lawsuit to demolish the camp in a case that has reached New Jersey Superior Court. A status conference on the case is scheduled for Sept. 13, according to the campsite's attorney, Jeffrey Wild.

"As soon as our firm learned that homeless men and women had been sued for ejection and that they had no other place to go, we agreed to represent the homeless and seek to fight the underlying problem: the lack of any available emergency shelter in Ocean County," Wild wrote in an email to FoxNews.com. "My fathers and his sisters were raised by a single mom during the Great Depression. They often could not make rent, and often had to leave in the middle of the night the day before rent came due. Thus, I have always known that with a little bad luck -- a lost job, an illness -- any of us could be homeless."

Similar legal fights are occurring nationwide. In Providence, Rhode Island, tent cities have sprung up in a city park off Pleasant Valley Parkway, forcing city officials to seek a preliminary injunction to eject the homeless group. Campers without a permanent residence also took to public property in Colorado Springs, Colo., before its City Council passed a no-camping ordinance in February 2010. A homeless outreach program there continues to seek housing for small families at motels and shelters.

Elsewhere, like in Virginia Beach, Va., more than 20 residents of a tent city were told to vacate in April the small cabins they called home. Similar situations have also unfolded in Olympia, Wash., and Sacramento, Calif., where homeless advocates and authorities have long negotiated for a city-sanctioned encampment.

Meanwhile, back in Lakewood, when asked what he'd tell Obama if he had a chance to meet the president during his Midwest listening tour, Brigham said he hopes to hear how Obama plans to stop the steady outsourcing of American jobs .

"Outsourcing American jobs to other countries is causing the average American to be out of work and unable to support himself," he said. "If at all possible, [Obama] needs to take measures to stop that outsourcing so the average American can carry his own weight.

Brigham said he'd also like to see Obama -- the "captain of the ship" -- focus on building more affordable housing on small pieces of land.

"Homes that people can really afford," he said. "Build them small."
Moving away from the country's dependence on oil would also go a long way toward recovery, Brigham said.

"He's got to make some serious moves to get off the oil," Brigham said of Obama. "It's an addiction and it's going to destroy us unless we're able to adjust and get to a more sustainable form of energy."

Above all, Brigham said he'd like to see Obama "raise the spirits" of the average American.

"We don't want to see the boat go down and he's the captain of the ship, so he has to do something or say something to make us feel better about the situation of our nation," he said. "It's so bleak out there."

Preparing for an apocalypse in America

Some Americans are preparing for an end of the world.

TAGS: Arms, Health, Military, Natural disasters, Nuclear, Terrorism, USA, Culture

The American Preppers Network is a group of people storing supplies, equipment and ammunition in case an end of the world disaster strikes the U.S. RT visits one such family.

*A typical house in a regular suburban town, but here – a family is preparing for the end of the world.

A German Mauser and P-38 from the Second World War, a twelve-gage shot gun, a forty caliber pistol and an AR-15 – weapons and ammunition are key.

“If we are carrying this out on the street for some reason – all hell broke out. It’s an end of the world type situation. You can’t walk around with these guns here,” said Keith Proskura.

A certified NRA instructor and owner of two businesses, he stores food and supplies to help him survive no matter what disaster might hit.

“Brake down of government is one thing a lot of people are preparing for now. We are facing possible pay delays for social security. I am not going to need all of this stuff for that, but you are going to have a lot of Americans who are upset,” he explained.

The 37 year old is among thousands of American preppers who would rather be ready than sorry. RT spoke with Tom Martin – the founder of the Preppers Network – from inside his truck.

“It’s not so much political, but more economic. I see people every day lose their jobs and have to rely on food that they have stored up previously to live on that food, just because they’ve lost their jobs,” said Martin.

Gas masks, bullet-proof vests, canned food, tents and helmets fill basement like this one.

A prepper’s survival bag is not a regular first aid kit. It includes things like a parachute cord, a survival knife, a meal ready to eat, a body heat-retaining space blanket and bagged emergency drinking water. According to preppers, one must also be ready for chemical catastrophies, or a large-scale terrorist attack.

“If contaminates land on top of you, you’ve got to have a couple of pairs of gloves on. Your feet will slip into a chemical-proof boot. If you go into an unknown situation you are going to want to have one that’s fully incapsulated. So that you are 100 percent sure that nothing will get through to you,” said Keith Proskura.

A variety of walkie-talkies are ready for use if the communication network shuts down. On the other end of the line is Keith’s father, John Proskura, who is actually in the next room. A police officer for 25 years, he is now retired; his main past time is operating a ham radio. For him, communications will be key if disaster strikes.

“The tsunami and earthquake in Japan a couple of months ago – amateur radio played a big part in that in providing emergency communication. And the big hurricane in Haiti a couple of years ago,” said the man.

There is one scenario he fears more than others.

“If there was some kind of a nuclear fall-out, radio wave propagation would probably for all practical purposes seize,”
    said John.

Around $10,000 is the hefty price tag for these supplies.

But to preppers, it’s not just ten grand sitting in a basement – with uncertainty taking over the US, they say those who seem paranoid today may end up being the smartest tomorrow.

Ok.... I counted probably a half dozen spelling errors in the previous post. It really, seriously IRKS this shit out of me when people who report on this stuff can't write, spell or use correct ENGLISH GRAMMAR.

On the other hand I've been having a private conversation with Ryan (which I won't detail for obvious reasons) about this very thing.

It is amazing to me the people I've spoken to in the last two weeks who "suddenly" are talking about storing food, buying guns and things like that. 90% of whom though *I* was nuts a few months or years back.

WTF has happened to America? Are we all INSANE?

All of a sudden everyone is preparing for things that they think are coming that most of us has suspected for 20 years or more and now they are starting to see it clearly in the past few weeks.

America is scared. Americans are scared and they are scared of Obama and hit politics.

The USA is full of socialist and even commies now opening admitting they are... and there IS going to be a full out war against each other. Capitalism vs Communism.

Capitalism MUST WIN, or America is lost and gone like Rome.

48% Think Spending Cuts Could Trigger Violence
    August 12, 2011

Nearly one-out-of-two Americans (48%) think that cuts in government spending are at least somewhat likely to lead to violence in the United States, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. But that includes just 13% who feel it’s Very Likely.

Nearly as many Adults (44%), however, believe violence as the result of spending cuts is unlikely, but only 12% say it’s Not At All Likely. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Americans under 50 raise the possibility of violence more than their elders. Most adults not affiliated with either party (58%) think spending cuts are likely to trigger violence, compared to 46% of Republicans and 42% of Democrats.

Tax hikes and a crashing stock market are seen as less incendiary in the minds of most Americans. Thirty-seven percent (37%) think increased taxes are at least somewhat likely to lead to violence, but 59% view that as unlikely. This includes 14% who say such violence is Very Likely and 20% who believe it’s Not At All Likely.

Similarly, 35% feel that it’s at least somewhat likely that a crashing stock market will lead to violence in the United States, with 13% who say it’s Very Likely. However, 60% say violence from a crashing market is unlikely, including 16% who say it’s Not At All Likely.

In early January, following the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and the killing of six others in Arizona, 45% of Likely U.S. Voters were at least somewhat concerned that those opposed to President Obama’s policies will resort to violence, but 52% did not share that concern.

(Want a free daily e-mail update ? If it's in the news, it's in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook.

The survey of 1,000 Adults was conducted on August 10-11, 2011 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Several prominent Democrats and their media friends have charged the Tea Party with being economic terrorists during the congressional budget debates, but just 29% of voters agree. More voters, in fact, still think the average Tea Party member has a better handle on America’s problems than the average member of Congress does, although there’s a sharp difference of opinion between Democrats and Republicans.

There’s little difference of opinion between Tea Party members and those who are not members of the grass roots movement on the risk of violence from spending cuts. Tea Party members are more likely than non-members to think tax hikes or a crashing stock market could lead to violence.

More Republicans (41%) see a likelihood of violence from tax hikes than do Democrats (34%) and unaffiliated adults (35%). But the majority of all three groups think violence is unlikely from either a crashing market or tax increases.

Conservatives see a likelihood of violence under all three scenarios more than moderates and liberals do. Those who earn less than $60,000 a year are more likely to agree than those who earn more.

Just 22% of voters approve of the debt ceiling deal recently reached by the president and Congress, and most doubt it will actually reduce government spending.

In addition to cutting a trillion dollars over the next 10 years, the two sides also agreed to form a special congressional committee to recommend $1.5 trillion in additional cuts by the end of the year, and if the committee fails to do that, automatic across-the-board spending cuts are supposed to go into effect, including cuts in Medicare and defense spending. Fifty-two percent (52%) oppose those automatic spending cuts if Congress doesn’t reach its reduction goals.

Still, voters feel more strongly than ever that decreasing government spending is good for the economy and think tax increases of any kind are a bad economic move. Sixty-seven percent (67%) think that thoughtful spending cuts should be considered in every program of the federal government.

The debt ceiling debate has highlighted the political difficulty of coming to grips with the federal government’s .massive debt. Voters now are almost evenly divided over whether they prefer a congressman who would reduce that debt with spending cuts only or opt for a mix of spending cuts and tax increases.

Near the end of a volatile week on Wall Street, investor confidence has fallen to a two-year low, consumer confidence is just above the lowest levels of the past two years, and confidence in the stability of the U.S. banking system is the lowest ever recorded.

Additional information from this survey and a full demographic breakdown are available to Platinum Members only.

    Crap. Just as I feared.

Ok... Conservatives think the other side will riot. Young people are pretty dead set on rioting. Leftists deny it will happen.

Holy shit America is about to become "Amerika" for real.....

I have some ... let's call it "sage" advice for all of you living in the United States.

    1) Buy a gun, a BIG GUN.
    2) Buy a lot of ammo and do it like yesterday. Dont practice shooting, store it. Keep it quiet
    3) Buy Rice, Beans and cooking oil. Lots of each. Canned meat (Treat as opposed to Spam, and if you can find it canned hams)
    4) Large bottles (500 or more) of MULtIVITAMINS

    Here's why.

Guns and ammo will PROTECT YOU.

The beans, rice and canned meat will ALL last for a LONG, LONG time. You just need water to make a meal. The oil... you need fat in your diets. Meat in a can hasn't as much as you think, and the rice, beans and meat, plus the oil give you three important things you need, CHEAPLY and without making you sick (unless allergic of course!) and that is starch, protein and fats.

And one mpore thing, the stuff will be HARD for looters to carry off in large quantities!!!

the vitamins will supplement your meat/rice/bean/oil diet and keep you from getting scurvy or rickets (to some extent).

If you can, lay in dried fruits and meat in the form of jerky. Any kind of meat and any kind of fruit. Apples dry well, grapes (rasins) and things like peaches, banana chips (I hate them, but will eat them.. hell I'll eat bugs if I have to) and any other easily dehydrated fruit.

I suggest that every, single one of you spend the next week evaluating the following things....

    1) How big is your household (how many mouths to feed)
    2) determine where you will obtain water and how much you can store at home.
    3) determine who can and can't shoot a gun and give them rudimentary/basic gun training
    4) Teach everyone how to hide stuff (money, food, ammo)
    5) MAkE SURE YOU ALL HAVE clothing for summer/winter and extra of each.
    6) Make sure you have a method of disinfecting and filtering water (Rain collection, collecting it from swimming pools, hot tubs, and other water sources)
    7) In the event you MUST evacuate (which I am STRONGLY AGAINST DOING) make sure you have a backpack for each person to carry that contains enough food and water to get you through at least 4-5 days to get you from the region you're evacuating.

If this planet turns to crap it won't last long in my opinion. I THINK you and me and each of us will become the defacto leaders of each of our communities, quickly (we have the guns, ammo and KNOWLEDGE, the most important thing).

Get over your shyness FAST if the shit hits the fan and ACT LIKE A LEADER, take charge, give direction (not orders, DIRECTION) to the community and you will be considered a leader of men...

Give orders and people might shoot you if they too are prepared.

Giving direction means to think through a scenario you might be in currently and help the neighborhood protect themselves against marauders, looters and gangs. Be specific and do your best to explain your thinking without too many details,

Everything you DO or DO NOT DO can cost lives... take care to evaluate everything carefully, but don't appear to take an inordinate amount of time for this. Sometimes a snap decision is better than no decision at all, or appearing to vacillate on everything you decide.

A leader is someone who can think on his feet, evaluate the circumstances and come quickly to a workable solution... even if it should fail, at least you led...

In a worst case scenario, do not hesitate to use the necessary force to prevent people from dying. Make sure your followers/family/friends can handle it as well.

At this point in my 54 years, watching the world come apart around me - something I never expected to see happen, I have come to the conclusion that those things which I am telling you now need to be shared with all of you. And I'm not joking here, I'm deadly serious about all this.

if you haven't gotten all of this yet, ASK.

If I don't answer, others can. Ryan, Malsua, Backstop and a few others are more than capable of explaining the whys of everything I've stated - and while they might not agree 100% with everything I've said (bug out as opposed to staying put for instance) I think they can all pretty much verify what I have stated).

Stay tuned folks for more is sure to come.....
