During the showdown over healthcare reform, some of the members of the Tea Party took off their masks.
Many African Americans had already suspected some of these people are more opposed to the skin color of the man in the White House than they were to the president's political ideology.

So blacks were not surprised that the health-care debate went from fear-mongering to blatant obstinacy.
But this is 2010.


We have a black first family.


It was frightening to see the racist behavior -- which we thought was buried -- resurrected during this contentious battle.


Before the critical vote, House Democrats were heckled, cursed and spit on by people who were opposed to the legislation that will reform the country's health system.


Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a civil rights icon, was called the "n" word. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), an openly gay congressman, was called the "f" word. And Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) was spit on and called the "n" word.


A white male was detained by a Capitol police officer for allegedly spitting.
After escorting Cleaver into the Capitol building, the officer went back and escorted the spitter to Capitol Police Headquarters.


"The congressman was asked to come in and identify the person which spat, but he did not choose to do so and did not want to press charges," said Danny Rotert, a spokesman for Cleaver.


Cleaver, who was the first black mayor of Kansas City, issued a statement pointing out that the three men who were abused have "struggled in the cause of equality."


"This is not the first time the congressman has been spat on because he worked in the SCLC [Southern Christian Leadership Conference], and has a history of being out front," Rotert said.


"He didn't want to draw attention to the whole thing. We did not want to make a big deal about it. The bigger issue that day was the health-care debate," he said.


Sorry, this is a big deal.


There are just far too many guns in the hands of far too many wackos to let this protester get away with such a public display of racial hatred.
A dangerous environment


When the man yelled a racial slur and spit on Cleaver, he crossed a line that was drawn in blood and tears.


To chant slurs at a gay person is another aggressive act of hate.


Interestingly enough, so far there haven't been any reports of angry Tea Party protesters shouting the "c" word at female lawmakers.


Nor have there been reports about these upset folks spitting on white male legislators who supported the health-care bill.


Given our history, this breakdown of civility creates a dangerous environment for the president and his family.


But most of us don't want to think about that.


It is as if by downplaying the overt racism, the bigotry will go away.
When asked about the incidents on "Meet The Press" on Sunday, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele characterized the people who engaged in this racist behavior as "idiots out there saying stupid things."
Yet, he knows there is a huge difference between stupid and racist.


Worse yet, "The Intelligence Report" that is published by the Southern Poverty Law Center reports that there are almost 1,000 active hate groups in the U.S.


Too many extremists, too many plots


In a recent article titled "Rage on the Right: The year in Hate and Extremism," Chip Berlet, an analyst of the American radical right, concluded:
"We see around us a series of overlapping social and political movements populated by people [who are] angry, resentful and full of anxiety. They are raging at the machinery of federal bureaucracy and liberal government including health care, reform of immigration and labor laws, abortion, and gay marriage."


These angry Americans have the right to protest.


But since the election of the nation's first black president, there's been too many extremists involved in too many alleged plots and actual shootings.


It is foolish for anyone, including the congressmen, to act as though extremists (and anyone who spits on an elected official is an extremist) are not a real threat to the president's safety.


Letting these radicals off the hook is letting them go much too far.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The term "flash mob" used to mean online-organized groups having street-corner pillow fights or sidewalk dance-offs, but in Philadelphia they've turned violent, and the reasons are as tough to pin down as where the next one will be.

At least five such mobs have gathered in the City of Brotherly Love in the past year, all leaving property damage or injuries in their wake, after hundreds of teenagers communicating by text message, Twitter, Facebook and other social media spread the word for everyone to show up at a designated spot.

Will America break up?

Abortion threatens to split the nation like slavery



President Obama is splintering America. The passage of Obamacare was a historic victory for liberal governance. Yet, its true cost may be that it triggers the eventual breakup of the country.

Mr. Obama has achieved what his liberal predecessors - Franklin D. Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, Bill Clinton - could only dream of: nationalized health care. Obamacare signifies the government take-over of one-sixth of the U.S. economy. It has dealt a mortal blow to traditional America. We are now a European-style socialist welfare state. The inevitable permanent tax hikes, massive public bureaucracy and liberal ruling elites will stifle competition and initiative.

Republicans vow to repeal Obamacare. Their past record, however, leaves many conservatives rightly skeptical. Since FDR's New Deal, Big-Government liberalism has been on the march - Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Education. The Republican Party has been unable to roll back the tide of statism. In fact, under Richard Nixon and both George Bushes, Great Society Republicans have been complicit in erecting a nanny state.

Socialism is the road to economic ruin and fiscal bankruptcy. It subverts democracy, threatening the very future of our constitutional republic. Socialist states degenerate into some form of autocracy or technocratic neo-feudalism, whereby the productive class is taxed and exploited to sustain a growing dependent class. Factions are pitted against each other; groups vie for handouts at the expense of their fellow citizens. The bonds of economic union and national solidarity slowly dissolve.

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not," warned Thomas Jefferson.

Jefferson was right: Redistributionist welfare policies are undermining our democracy. The resentments in America are growing. Tea Partiers believe that their government no longer represents their interests or values. The heartland is becoming dangerously alienated from the political class, whom it feels has betrayed them.

Obamacare may be the last straw. It strips away fundamental economic liberties, empowering the federal government to de facto nationalize everyone's body by controlling our health. Americans are compelled - upon pain of penalty and eventual imprisonment - to purchase insurance.

Moreover, the law codifies the federal funding of abortion. Taxpayer dollars will be used to subsidize the murder of innocent life. Hence, Mr. Obama has violated the social compact: He has abrogated the conscience of pro-lifers, making them tacitly complicit in the slaughter of the unborn. Obamacare is a radical assault upon fundamental religious freedoms.

The Obama revolution threatens to tear America apart. This has happened before. Slavery eventually triggered the Civil War between the industrial North and the agrarian South. Abortion is the slavery of our time - the denying of basic human rights to an entire category of people.

The bitter debate over Obamacare has exposed the country's profound divisions. We are no longer one nation or one people. Rather, there are now two Americas: one conservative, the other liberal. Increasingly, we no longer just disagree but we despise each other.

Our disagreements encompass everything - politics, morality, culture and history. We no longer share a unifying essence or common values. One half of America believes abortion is an abomination; the other half considers any attempt to repeal it as oppressive and sexist. One half opposes homosexual unions because it elevates immoral and unnatural behavior to the sacred status of marriage; the other half supports it as an extension of civil rights. One half reviles Mr. Obama's socialist agenda, viewing it as the destruction of capitalism and our constitutional government; the other half embraces it as the culmination of social justice and economic equality. One half reveres America's heroes - Christopher Columbus, George Washington, James Madison, Davy Crockett - and its glorious history; the other half is ashamed of its past, seeing it as characterized by racism, imperialism and chauvinism.

Ultimately, a country is not simply its geographical borders with the people inside of it. It is something more - and deeper. A nation must share a common heritage, language, culture, faith and myths. Once upon a time, Americans celebrated the same heroes, sang the same patriotic songs, read the same history and literature, and gloried in its exceptional nature: a city upon a hill, with liberty and freedom for all. It was understood that, for all of our different ethnic and religious backgrounds, America is a product of English and Christian civilization. Those days are long gone.

Instead, we are going the way our Founding Fathers warned us against: increasing balkanization and sectionalism. A constitutional republic - unlike an empire - is only as strong as its national cohesion. It is based not on imperial coercion but civic consent. Mr. Obama is recklessly pulling at the strings of unity, further polarizing us.

In confronting Obamacare, state sovereignty, states' rights and state nullification of federal laws are being asserted. This is what happened in the 1830s and 1840s. They are the signs of growing political anarchy and social frustration - people can only be pushed so far. Mr. Obama's drive for a socialist super-state threatens America's very existence. As Jefferson warned about slavery, it is time we start ringing the "fire bell in the night."

"Things fall apart; the center cannot hold," wrote William Butler Yeats. "Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world."

Conservatives will not be passive in this onslaught on all our core values. Mr. Obama's true legacy may be that he divides us deeper than ever before - unless he abandons his revolutionary project.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Someone vandalized the Portland Police union headquarters doing thousands of dollars in damage early Tuesday.

Spokesman Scott Westerman said just before 1 a.m., bricks and rocks were thrown through their windows, doing about $20,000 worth of damage to the outside of the building.

Eight people were arrested and three officers were injured Monday night when protesters clashed with police in downtown Portland in a rally against two recent officer-involved shootings. DETAILS: Police protests

Westerman said computers and other items were damaged inside the office.

No suspects have been named in the case.

4 Shot, More Than 50 Arrested In NYC Mayhem

Four people were shot and dozens of people were arrested Monday in a mile-long stretch of Manhattan near Times Square in mayhem following the city's annual auto show, police said.

A group of teenagers and young adults ran amok and harassed pedestrians along a mile-long stretch of midtown near the Jacob A. Javits Center, where the New York International Auto Show is held, police said.

Chief NYPD spokesman Paul J. Browne said additional officers were on patrol because similar problems have happened during past auto shows.

"Young men looking for trouble afterwards," he said of those arrested. "There have been incidents over the years. It's something we watch over and we prepare for it in advance."

Police made 54 arrests, mostly on charges of disorderly conduct. Police weren't sure how many of those arrested knew each other, or what sparked the shootings that began shortly after midnight.

A man was shot in the ankle at Eighth Avenue and 40th Street around 12:10 a.m. Shortly after, a woman was hit with a BB gun several blocks northeast at Seventh Avenue and 51st Street.

About two hours later, two women were shot — one in the elbow and another in the thigh — near Seventh Avenue and 34th Street.

The shootings represent the second major instance of gunfire in the area in recent months, where police have worked for years to stop petty crimes and hustlers targeting tourists. Police and a street hustler armed with a machine pistol exchanged shots in December in Times Square — shattering a Broadway theater ticket window and scattering crowds — before police shot the man dead.

Overall, crime in the city continues to decrease despite an uptick in murders, felony assaults and rapes.

Auto show spokesman Chris Sams said no one stood out as suspicious at the show Sunday.

"We had an amazing crowd, a very family-oriented crowd. The type of person who makes an auto show great, people listening to the presenters," he said.

Sams said security at the show is tight, and officials work with police. Visitors are checked when they arrive.

The auto show runs until April 11 and shows the latest and greatest in automobiles, from the smallest car on the U.S. market, an $11,900 Smart Fortwo, to a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe costing $518,800. The show was expected to attract more than 1 million people — the largest attendance of any auto show in the country.

Video shown on FNC showed this crowd to be pretty big (and of a certain ethnic makeup as well).

Kansas City Police Chief Jim Corwin received a briefing Monday after a large disturbance on the Country Club Plaza Saturday night.Corwin said on his blog that an estimated 700 to 900 juveniles were on the Plaza by 9 p.m. that night. The gathering was posted through the social network Web site Facebook.This is the second of two Saturdays in a row that large groups of young teens have been spotted roaming the area.

Monday, city and police officials met with representatives of Highwood Property, which owns the Plaza. They're seeking a way to stop future incidents.Witnesses said the trouble this weekend started when several brawls broke out between young people as moviegoers left a theatre."I was leaving the movies and there were so many kids out there," witness Starr Hackett told KMBC's Marcus Moore.

Hackett said the tension seemed to rise when police arrived and used pepper spray to disperse the crowd."When they called in the helicopter and more police out there, that's when it really got crazy," Hackett said."I feel like that's unfortunate because I feel like the Plaza is a place where everybody should be able to come and enjoy a good time and be safe," resident Lynita Jones said.Susan Haake said the Plaza is her front yard. She has lived in the area for 20 years."In absolutely no neighborhood should that occur. More than a dozen youths pummeled and robbed a Grandview couple as they walked down a sidewalk, stealing his glasses and her purse.

A group of youths shoved a high school girl dressed for prom into a fountain on a restaurant patio without provocation.

These were among the events reported Saturday night when hundreds of what police called “unruly” youths gathered at the Country Club Plaza. The gathering spiraled out of control, police said, and officers emptied several fire extinguisher-sized pepper spray canisters and more than a dozen hand-held canisters to break up the crowd.

Police today released additional details about the incident, which drove paying customers away in a “mass exit” about 10 p.m. Police officials said they were forming a detailed plan to deal with possible crowds this weekend.

Police said they had noticed a growing population of youths loitering on the Plaza in recent weeks, as the weather has improved and after the Plaza movie theater’s decision to lower its age requirement. Last week, police said they learned youths were using social media Web sites to organize and encourage friends to gather Saturday night.

The department sent 21 additional officers to the Plaza about 6 p.m. Saturday to break up any gatherings of youths before they got too big. But as the night went on, the crowd of youths swelled to as many as 900 at 9 p.m. Police said some in the crowd were as young as 11 years old. Police were quickly outnumbered.

Fights broke out, youths ran down the streets, and groups blocked entrances and exits to businesses, police said. A 16-year-old girl suffered abrasions when she was run over by one group.

At Pennsylvania Avenue and Nichols Road, the Grandview couple, in their 20s, said a group of 15 young males accosted them and knocked a cup of coffee from the woman’s hand. The juveniles hit the woman, knocking her to the ground. They stole her purse and kicked and punched the man until the woman threw herself on top of his body to protect him. The man suffered minor cuts and swelling, police said.

People could not walk down the sidewalk and traffic could not flow because of the crowds. The horse carriage ride that operates on the Plaza had to shut down.

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy after he lifted up his shirt and showed what appeared to be a gun to various teenagers across the street with whom he was arguing. Police recovered a toy gun from the boy’s waistband.

Some youths grabbed flowers and flower pots and damaged the greenery, police said.

Police said the problems were especially bad near the Classic Cup, where officers responded to numerous large disturbances, and at P.F. Chang’s, where police had to clear juveniles from gathering in the restrooms. Police found a knife on the ground in the middle of one disturbance.

More than two dozen additional police officers showed up and helped disperse the juveniles, many of whom then migrated east toward Mill Creek Park and the Winstead’s restaurant.

Police said a large fight broke out in the Winstead’s parking lot and officers found a teen lying on the asphalt with a large bruise on his head. He could barely speak. He was only able to utter his name and the street he lived on.

The restaurant closed early.

Police officials said they had a hard time catching up with the troublesome juveniles because of the size of the crowds.

Most of the problems occurred before the city’s youth curfew of midnight, but police did arrest six juveniles for staying out after curfew.

In addition to the crimes that police observed, they received about 35 calls for help, mostly for disturbances and fighting.

Special army unit ready to be deployed on American soil just before Nov. elections




In October of this year, one month prior to the November midterm elections, a special army unit known as 'Consequence Management Response Force' will be ready for deployment on American soil if so ordered by the President.

The special force, which is the new name being given to the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry, has been training at Fort Stewart, Georgia and is composed of 80,000 troops.
According to the Army Times,

They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control or to deal with potentially horrific scenarios such as massive poisoning and chaos in response to a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive, or CBRNE, attack.

The key phrase is 'may be called upon to help with civil unrest.'

This afternoon a local radio talk show host reported that he had been in contact with a member of the military. This military source stated that the armed forces have been alerted to the strong possibility that civil unrest may occur in the United States this summer, prior to the midterm elections of 2010.

The source described this as 'our long, hot summer of discontent' that could be eerily reminiscent of the summer of 1968 when riots broke out in many of our largest cities.

However, the summer of 2010 could well be much worse due to the players involved. In 1968 the major players were war protesters. This time, the outrage simmering beneath the surface of American society involves a broad cross-section of the heartland, and most of them are heavily armed.

It is highly unlikely that these citizens would ever initiate armed conflict of any kind. In their view, gun rights are for self-defense--and for defense against tyrannical government, which our Founders regarded as the most dangerous force on earth.

However, it has become clear that other groups may well initiate violence in order to start an 'incident' that would give Obama and a rogue Congress a reason to implement martial law, confiscate the citizens' guns, enforce curfews, and suspend all future elections until such time as it is deemed 'safe' to proceed with human liberty as encapsulated in the right to vote.

Tea Party members, for example, have been warned in recent days that members of Andy Stern's SEIU union and members of the organization formerly known as ACORN plan to infiltrate Tea Party gatherings in order to incite some sort of incident that could result in armed conflict.

In addition, all indications point to a humiliating defeat for the Democrats and Obama in November. Not only will the House in all likelihood transfer to Republican control, but it is increasingly possible for the Democrats to lose the Senate as well.

And there are Leftwing groups in this country that would use whatever means necessary to prevent that from happening.

ACORN has already gone underground, changing its name so as to fly beneath the radar screen. How many people will the group register to vote illegally?

And with Obama's plan to naturalize between 10 and 20 million illegal aliens, a brand new voter base for the Democrats will be in place prior to November.

Add to this the growing unrest over continued high unemployment, the coming spike in interest rates and inflation, and the still-boiling outrage over the manner in which Obama and the Democrats shoved ObamaCare down the throats of the citizens, and all of the ingredients are present for a major F-5 tornado to sweep across the heartland.

To what extent would soldiers use deadly force during such 'civil unrest' should the Consequence Management Response Team be utilized?

During the anti-war riots of the 1960s they killed student protesters. What about now?

The military source cited by the radio host today was asked this very question. He would merely say that the culture of the U.S. military is changing--half support Obama and the other half are dead-set against him.

His conclusion? There is no way to know for sure if they would obey an order to open fire on ordinary citizens.

Update: The Cato Institute published this warning when the program was launched in its first phase in 2008 (the program has been updated and expanded since 2008).

The Founders insisted that standing armies were never to be used against American citizens on our own soil, no matter what violations of this principle have occurred in the years following.

In the spirit of the Patriots and of real journalists government must be questioned constantly and held to intense scrutiny in order to preserve liberty.
