We’re going to take a look at a potential attack scenario against the United States. We’re going to analyze it strictly from a military-economic perspective and weigh possible courses of action by a foreign power or powers in an attack.

Firstly, it is my belief that there will be foreign powers involved, yet one will initiate the entire thing: North Korea. Let’s start up the scenario.

    1. North Korea launches an EMP attack, via ICBM or satellite.

This will be the “kickoff,” and enable the game to begin. As of right now, the Chinese and Russians are already positioning themselves. The Chinese are moving naval assets into the South China Sea and also into the Pacific. The Russians are prepping their naval assets in the Med, the Atlantic, the Pacific, and in the Arctic region.

The EMP attack will effectively shut down the entire U.S. economy and infrastructure. Many non-hardened elements of the United States armed forces will suffer loss, and the response time for a conventional incursion will be drastically reduced.

    2. Command and Control Areas of the Government, the Military, and the Economy will be nuked.

The most probable cities that will be taken out will be as follows:

    (East Coast)
    – Washington, D.C., New York, NY, Baltimore, MD, Norfolk, VA, Philadelphia, PA, Dover, DE, and Sarasota, FL. This will effectively cripple 90% of all command and control by government and the economic hubs of the country. The latter city is home to Special Operations Command, SouthCom. Additional targets will be Ft. Meade, MD (home to the NSA), Ft. Bragg, NC (home to the 82nd Airborne Division, and Special Operations Command), Camp Lejeune, NC and Virginia Beach (home to Seal Team 2).

    (West Coast)
    – Seattle, WA, Portland, OR, San Francisco, CA, San Diego, CA. Strikes will also be conducted on Ft. Lewis, WA because of the Ranger and Special Forces unit & group there. The weapons will be airburst of fairly low-yield in the attempt to not irradiate with the prevailing westerly winds.

    (Interior)
    – Denver, CO, and Ft. Carson, CO [the latter emphasized for Cheyenne Mountain, recently reactivated, as well as 10th Special Forces Group (Abn) and 4th Infantry Division].

This may seem to be “light,” in terms of targets, and there is a reason for this: they want to take the land and resources, not irradiate them into uselessness.

    3. The invasion begins with Special Forces, followed by airborne units and then conventional forces.

The Special Forces units of the invading nations will have already been inserted weeks earlier by drops, by sea, or allowed to reach their destinations in a clandestine fashion disguised as civilians and traveling from different locations, separately. Those special units that will be utilized on the initial invasion (for strike missions against targets of varying degrees of importance, such as generators and hydroelectric plants) will be held at the line of departure on a leash until the attack begins.

When the EMP renders a “lights out scenario” it will probably occur at night
, and immediately afterward will come drops of airborne troops and Special Forces assets. These will be shock troops to secure areas assigned until the main bodies come ashore.

    4. Areas of Responsibility:

The Chinese will take the entire West Coast, the Russians will take Alaska and drive southward, securing the coastline for their naval assets and taking control of the pipeline (which neither side will bomb or irradiate). The Russians will either halt at the southeastern corner of Alaska, or they will drive downward through Canada until they can perch themselves just across the border on the state lines of Washington, Idaho, and Montana. The Russians will also mount an invasion on the East Coast, bypassing “hot spots” of irradiated cities previously mentioned in the initial nuclear strikes.

Later the two nations will coordinate for their drives into the interior. Meanwhile the armies of Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Cuba will make their way into the unguarded underbelly of the United States into Texas and the Border States via Mexico. Their objective will be to seize the cities of the Gulf of Mexico. Airborne and

Special Forces units of their respective countries, along with the Chinese and Russians, will aid them: all of these will be inserted into the interior.

Their targets to seize and occupy will include Indianapolis, IN (the central railway “hub” of the entire U.S.), and New Orleans, LA (the critical port city where the

Mississippi river empties into the Gulf of Mexico; critical for shipping and transport).

    5. The Russians will amass submarine assets in the Atlantic with secondary nuclear targets if needed.

At this point, it is worth mentioning that all U.S. naval assets abroad, such as carrier groups, will be nuked. The attackers have the advantage of no nuclear reprisals being the policy of the Obama administration when the EMP is initially delivered. There are several reasons for the limited nature of the nuclear strikes.

Firstly, the West Coast would be subdued without damaging the Imperial Valley, the breadbasket of the U.S. that produces almost 1/5 of the fresh, domestic produce in
America. In addition, these nations do not want to irradiate the Midwest due to the corn and wheat, as well as the cattle industry and other segments of domestic food production.

With the EMP, there will be a 24 – 48 hour window of almost stultifying confusion that will lead to semi-paralysis
. There are many cities (especially the ports) that will be kept intact due to the desire of these nations to take our resources and ship them by rail to the ports and then back to their home countries, minus a percentage to upkeep the foreign troops. This follows Sun Tzu’s principle of resupplying your troops with the enemy’s supplies and provisions.

In the next article, we will cover what areas of the U.S. hold what particular interests for invaders, and outline what the U.S. responses and courses of action will be, from both a military (active duty and national guard) and civilian perspective.

What Will Americans Do If Our Country Is Invaded By Foreign Armies?

    Jeremiah Johnson
    April 12th, 2016

This article is a continuation of How an Attack on America Would Probably Begin: Possible Courses Of Action By Foreign Military Powers

In the last article we introduced the concept of an invasion by a foreign coalition on American soil. Sure, we have all seen “Red Dawn” and other films that characterize an invasion by a foreign power or powers, and it is understandable that it is Hollywood. That being said, what will happen in the United States if an invasion does occur, from the perspective of its citizenry? Will there be a resistance, and if so, where?

We covered some potential actions of aggressor nations. Hopefully everyone agrees on the fact that if we are invaded, the resources (in the form of food/crops, minerals, oil, and livestock) will be sought after. Let’s turn our concentration of focus to geography, the second most important feature after human demographics. Fortunately the United States is large and occupation will be extremely difficult.
The problem is twofold for an aggressor: how to kill off 90% of the population and enslave the rest without irradiating the whole shebang and obtaining only a Pyrrhic victory. Firstly, let’s take a look at this photo that breaks down firearms ownership state by state:

The way to make this photograph understood more readily is to take it further within your home state and multiply that percentage by the actual population of the state. This will give you a “raw” number to estimate. You can probably add about 10-15% to those numbers, as there will be plenty of weapons not recorded within the system. Keep in mind: some states, such as Montana, are huge in area with a big percentage number, but the entire population of the state is just over a million people. Twenty percent of California means a lot more guns than 60% in Montana.

Next, find those big cities in your home state that will probably be taken out, such as Washington, D.C., or New York City. There are a number of different sites that allow you to enter in a city and the size of a weapon used against it to estimate the ring of destruction and the fallout patterns. You can use these tools to come up with an idea of what will remain in your state after the initial strikes have been completed.

Geography has a huge say in the equation. As I have mentioned in previous articles, the area of Northwestern Montana where I live is extremely remote; however, it holds a high level of strategic importance. The East-West rails here for rail freight is a key crossing area of the Continental Divide. Also, the Flathead Valley can be turned into a huge staging point for air operations with only minimal modification to existing airfields.

The mountainous regions of the United States will be areas that resistance elements will form up, hopefully with the aid of/aiding our own military. The Appalachian Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Catskills, the Rockies of Colorado and Montana will be areas where citizens will gather, hide, and stage bases of operations to conduct reconnaissance and fight. There are many urban locations of strategic importance (such as Indianapolis and New Orleans) that an invader can’t really afford to bomb that would also become centers of resistance.

A factor that also comes heavily into play is the time of the year that all of this is initiated. Food larders and supplies are highest just before the wintertime, and the “tail” end month of winter with the first two months of spring are “shortage” months. Traditionally there are hiatuses with campaigns to allow for the harvest in the fall and the planting in the spring. Another factor is energy: as the winter draws to an end, fuel supplies such as oil and coal will not be in such high demand, and supplies will be on the rise.

The largest question has to do with the human factors: a desire to defend, the resolve to stick it out for a long period of occupation, and the shortages of men, materials, and supplies that may weaken the resolve of the citizenry. There will probably be a great outpouring of people from the urban and suburban areas into the remote and rural areas. The vast, open areas of the Midwest will be very difficult for us to hold onto, but fighting will most likely be conventional, as both sides will not want to destroy the nation’s breadbasket and a large portion of domestic oil production.

What may also be a factor to consider is the percentage of the alien population here illegally that will turn against the citizenry. An angry “fifth column” that is equated more to a sea or flood of humanity can do a great deal of damage. Surely their sympathies would lie with their countries of origin, if they were here illegally. Once again, this will pose a major problem in the border states of Texas and the Southwest.

We have no way of monitoring what is currently coming across our borders, let alone what has crossed over in the past five decades or so. As many readers have mentioned, a tremendous amount of materials (firearms, suitcase nukes, and so forth) have undoubtedly found their way across the borders (Southern and Northern) to be cached and used in a future operation or invasion.

The swamps, mountains, and forests will be paramount to any resistance that is undertaken. During the Revolutionary War, there was that “3%” estimate of actual resistance. Things will be a little different this time, as there are technological hurdles to overcome, such as drones, cameras, satellites, and other “niceties” in a society where almost everyone has their own little tracking “chip” in the form of a cellular telephone right in their pocket. During the initial ouster of Viktor Yanukyovich in Ukraine the government was utilizing the cell phones to find out who was gathered and protesting their actions.

A fight would definitely be a long-term contest with the potential for years before either side secured a victory. We will also discuss and explore what our own government would do in the event of an invasion: whether they would fight it or further enable it, the latter being the more probable of the two choices. Your views and opinions on such possibilities are both welcomed and valued.

When the Little Green Men Invade Arizona

Could Russian-style "hybrid warfare" happen on American soil?

    By Joe Pappalardo

The biggest military victories of the 21st century didn't look like people expected. Consider Russia's seizure of Crimea from Ukraine, which relied upon not fighter jets or advanced warships but crafty public relations, Special Forces, and a proxy army.

How did Russian President Vladimir Putin do it? He started with outreach to aggrieved Russian-speaking people in Crimea, posing them as victims of the crooked Ukrainian government. Russian state media and social media flooded the region and the world with propaganda. Putin then encouraged militias to form. They seized an airport, military bases, and government buildings. A parliamentary vote declared Crimea would secede from Ukraine. A referendum, days later, voted the region to become part of Russia.

It was a new kind of invasion, and it worked.

"Once the green men are there, a revolution happens quickly."

Experts have begun to call these tactics "non-linear," "unconventional," or "information warfare." But the catchphrase getting the most traction is "hybrid war." We've seen Russia use it to grab land in Crimea, but make no mistake, this is not just an eastern European phenomenon. It could happen anywhere, including the United States.

To understand the confusing modern "hybrid" battlefield, it's helpful to place these new tactics on familiar territory. A great example of fiction informing fact is 1984's Red Dawn, in which writer/director John Milius made viewers understand the nature of guerrilla warfare via an alternate history in which Cuban and Soviet forces invaded the USA. The hypothetical scenario I'm laying out below should be considered with the same amount of skepticism—it's an extreme hypothetical, but it serves to explain the concept. All the details here are fictional, but the shadowy strategies of 21st century hybrid warfare are very real.

    1) Find a Proxy

Let's say a Mexican cartel wanted to ensure its routes through a tightened U.S. border remain open. The cartel is well armed but can't out-muscle the United States military, so a direct invasion is out of the question. There is no political recourse since we're talking about an outlaw cartel and not a nation-state. But the cartel could wage a campaign using elements of hybrid warfare to gain an advantage.

It doesn't require a nation to wage a hybrid war, and criminal organizations will be drawn to hybrid warfare because it preserves anonymity. That means the first step is to find a sympathetic group on the ground to serve as a proxy. Without one, a group waging hybrid war can't take and seize terrain. (Turf isn't always the objective, but in our scenario it is.)

    Viktor Drachev/AFP/Getty Images

In Crimea, Ukrainians who spoke Russian served as the rallying point for an annexation. The United States has its own groups of people who feel trapped in the middle. Border tensions have been fueling discontent between the U.S. government and the Tohono O'odham nation, a Native American group whose land straddles the Mexican border. On one side, contraband smugglers make the area unstable and tempt locals to become outlaws. On the other side, fences, checkpoints, and other law enforcement efforts have disrupted the tribe's sovereignty and ability to do business.

Earlier this year, a European researcher named Anton Shekhovtsov outlined some of the conditions needed for a hybrid war to work. One condition was introducing forces that are culturally transparent, so they "so they do not stand out as 'aliens' and, thus, compromise the operation." In Crimea that meant ethnic Russians, but in the multicultural stewpot of the United States, language and culture mean less. What matters more is the ability to infiltrate the levers of control over, and that means owning property, sponsoring local candidates and tools of communication, which the cartel can do with its ample money and legitimate business connections.

Each of these elements could be used when it comes time to drive a wedge between the tribe and the United States government.

    2) Win Phase Zero

Propaganda was around long before Sun Tzu wrote about the need to sap an enemy's morale to win wars. But modern media—fast moving, fractured, and pervasive—has made the home front a primary target in hybrid war.

After finishing the referendum in Crimea, Pro-Russian people make celebrations at Lenin Square in Simferepol, Ukraine.
    Getty

In the real world, the Tohono O'odham nation is already abuzz over plenty of real, legitimate concerns. Local blogs drive passions with reports of fences cutting through sacred lands, of businesses losing money because they can't freely move goods, of religious artifacts taken during Border Patrol arrests. In our fictional scenario, some creative rumor-mongering amplifies the anger.

Here's where the concept of cyberwar comes into sharp focus. Mexican cartels can hire freelance hackers to conduct industrial espionage operations that benefit cartel-friendly businesses by stealing details on bids or digging up trade secrets. Mercenary hackers from anywhere in the world can dig up dirt and blackmail moderate political voices. Websites with opposing views can be hacked and disrupted. Doctored videos and photos can spread discontent, with compromised local media eager to tout them.

Politicians not used to hardball are quickly marginalized as the cartel threatens to kill them or their families.

The powder keg is ready for a spark.

This is the digital equivalent of using an artillery barrage to soften up the defender's ability to resist. "Weakening the enemy's will through nonmilitary measures will pay large dividends in the long-run," writes Nicholas Fedyk, project associate at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs in the Small War Journal.

Let's take this scenario full Crimea. Stoked by this propaganda, the tribe's confrontations and protests against the Border Patrol escalate as moderate politicians lose influence. Cartel-controlled media begin talk of a referendum on self-governance—a divorce from both the United States and Mexico.

The powder keg is ready for a spark. And that's when the little green men show up.

    3) Introduce the Little Green Men

When the Russian special operations forces entered Crimea, they hid among local militia groups. They wore no insignia, but offered weapons, training, and secure communications equipment. These paramilitary units were dubbed "little green men." They were swift, effective and most of all, deniable—since they were not official Russian forces, Putin could have denied knowledge of their activities if necessary. As NATO General Philip Breedlove told a German publication in 2014: "Once the green men are there, a revolution happens quickly."

Little green men put real teeth behind the movement. In our scenario, the cartel backs Native American radical groups with experienced gunmen and former Mexican military officers who can backstop these proxies with sophisticated communication gear and heavy weapons. Some of the weapons are aimed at dissenters inside the tribe, while others threaten the Border Patrol and National Guard.

Squads of cartel killers assassinate some border patrol agents and claim credit on behalf of the tribe, putting both sides on edge and bringing U.S. military attention in the form of the National Guard. This stokes emotions on the eve of the referendum, perhaps swinging the vote toward independence. If not, the cartels rig it. The outcome is preordained either way.

    4) Spark a Crisis and Take Control

When the vote of separation from the U.S. and Mexican governments succeeds, armed squads take over the highways and bridges. Border Patrol, local police, and National Guardsmen find their radios jammed, websites knocked out by DDoS attacks, and vital highways blocked by abandoned, booby-trapped trucks.

In a hybrid war, threats are even better than actions.

The cartel has invested and smuggled military grade equipment to its forces, and they wield shoulder-fired missiles that can shoot down helicopters. A traditional general, interested in causing enemy casualties, would keep this hardware a secret until it was time to surprise an enemy. But in a hybrid war, threats are even better than actions. This is the power of information—a single Youtube video can ground a fleet of the world's most advanced reconnaissance and attack helicopters.

The independent nation can now declare its right to self-defense in attacking any other government troops violating its turf. The Russian and Chinese, delighted with this knock to American hegemony, backs the claim at the United Nations.

The cartel's revolution has succeeded. Like ISIS, it now owns territory and can impose governmental means of control, like laws, taxes, and jail sentences. It has transformed from a transnational crime syndicate to something like a nation. Smugglers now operate with impunity, weakly monitored by the cartel-beholden government. The puppet ruling party soon enacts a zero-extradition policy and few legal controls over its permissive banking system. It's like a little Cayman Islands right along the border. The Tohono O'odham—very of few of whom had to be complicit in this movement for it to succeed—finds themselves in a nation run by a criminal organization.

    21st Century Total War

The tactics and techniques outlined in this hypothetical scenario may seem far-fetched, sure. But people in Crimea and Ukraine just watched more outlandish power grabs succeed even as NATO, Europe, and the United States looked on.
It was a new kind of invasion, and it worked.

The reality of hybrid warfare is a stark reminder to anyone who thinks the idea of total war has vanished in the glare of the information age. Instead of carpet bombing cities and launching land-grab invasions, the 21st century's version of total war is more subtle, effective, and exportable.

Don't believe it could happen here?

Take a look at what's happening with claims of Russian hacking and its impact on the U.S. election.

Consider the targets of Anna Chapman and other Russian spy rings in America.

Ponder the industrial espionage aimed at defense firms and federal agencies.

For all we know, the hybrid war against the United States may have already begun.

Ahmadinejad to Trump: US Belongs To All Nations

Ex-Iranian president pens letter to President Trump, blasts American 'dominance', says US 'belongs to all nations'.

    Contact EditorDavid Rosenberg, 27/02/17 14:30

    Ahmadinejad

Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wrote a 3,500 word letter to President Donald Trump in which he slams the new administration’s restrictions on immigration and US “dominance” of the United Nations.

The letter was transferred to the US via the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, which serves as the point of contact between the United States and Iran.

In the document, Ahmadinejad congratulated President Trump’s November win and praised his 2016 campaign, which the former Iranian leader said “truthfully described the US political system and electoral structure as corrupt."

But Ahmadinejad, who during his tenure as president threatened to “wipe Israel off the map” and publicly suggested the Holocaust was a hoax, chided Trump over his recent executive order temporarily restricting immigration from seven high-risk countries, saying the US must “value respect toward the diversity of nations and races.”

Ahmadinejad went on to argue that the United States “belongs to all nations”, suggesting the US has no right to regulate immigration into the country.

"In other words, the contemporary US belongs to all nations, including the natives of the land," Ahmadinejad wrote. "No one may consider themselves the owner and view others as guests or immigrants."

The former Iranian leader made no reference in the letter to Iran’s nuclear program or tensions with the West stemming from Iran’s recent ballistic missile tests. Instead, Ahmadinejad berated American “dominance” of the United Nations, assailing it as the cause of "insecurity, war, division, killing, and displacement of nations."

Ahmadinejad also penned letters to presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama during their terms in office.

La Raza Declares War on Border Wall, Demands “Reconquista” of Southwest

La Raza in WaPo: Trump Immigration Orders Like ‘Slave Trade’

    BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI/AFP/Getty Images

    by John Binder27 Feb 2017Washington, D.C.1,668
The president of the open borders group known as La Raza is comparing President Donald Trump’s immigration orders to a number of historic atrocities, including the slave trade, in a new Washington Post op-ed.

The piece by National Council of La Raza President Janet Murgu*a, claims Trump’s plan to deport criminal illegal immigrants; build a wall along the southern border; and crack down on sanctuary cities will “similarly tarnish our nation’s character” like the slave trade did:

Some of the darkest chapters in U.S. history have involved forcibly relocating minority populations: the slave trade, the Trail of Tears, Operation Wetback and the internment of citizens and noncitizens of Japanese descent during World War II. Each was considered legal and justified in its time. Now they are condemned as assaults on the values that define our nation.

President Trump’s first executive order on immigration and the draft enforcement memos signed by Secretary of Homeland Security John F. Kelly promise to similarly tarnish our nation’s character. The memos call for expanding the nation’s deportation forces by 15,000 to round up, detain and deport the undocumented immigrants living among us. Instead of focusing on criminals, they make all undocumented people priorities for enforcement, and through a process called “expedited removal,” they severely reduce due process protections.
Murgu*a says Trump’s immigration orders through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are based entirely “on falsehoods” about illegal aliens, arguing that illegal immigration is down and it does not pose as much of a threat as the Trump Administration purports.

The La Raza president also parroted the talking points that illegal aliens help grow the economy by paying taxes every year:

And the cost of the undocumented? Their contributions to the economy far outweigh their burden. According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, undocumented immigrants pay $11.6 billion in taxes each year. According to the Social Security Administration, undocumented workers contribute $15 billion annually to the fund, but only withdraw an estimated $1 billion.
This claim has been repeatedly debunked by groups like the Federation for Immigration Reform (FAIR), which found in a comprehensive study that illegal immigration costs American taxpayers a whopping $113 billion, as Breitbart Texas reported.

Murgu*a also claims that there is “little evidence that most undocumented immigrants pose a threat to national security.”

But, in documents released by the Senate Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest back in 2016, research found that there have been 580 individuals convicted of terrorism in the U.S. since the September 11th attacks, with 380 of those individuals being foreign-born terrorists, as Breitbart News reported.

Murgu*a refers to the recent deportation of Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos, an illegal immigrant living in Phoenix, Arizona, with her two children for 20 years.

“A woman who was a resident of Phoenix for 20 years was also deported, leaving behind her two U.S.-citizen children,” Murgu*a writes in the piece. “They are hardly security threats, but will be ‘enforcement priorities’ under Homeland Security’s new policy.”

Nonetheless, Murgu*a did not mention that Garcia de Rayos had been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2008 after she was found to be illegally using a Social Security number to work at a theme park, as Breitbart Texas reported.

In 2013, a judge ordered Garcia de Rayos to return home to Mexico, but she instead was required to periodically meet with immigration officials due to lax enforcement policies under former President Obama.

Murgu*a goes on to claim that the Trump administration has “declared war”, referring to ICE’s efforts to deport criminal illegal immigrants as “stalking people leaving church or going to the movies.”

Murgu*a’s piece concludes with a plea for the rest of the open borders lobby and amnesty advocates to continue to try to hold up deportation processes by the Trump Administration, writing “we’re deploying every tool we’ve got to oppose this ill-conceived policy — in the media, in the courts and in peaceful protests in the streets.”

Companion Threads: The Communist Takeover of America: 45 Declared Goals

I think many far left radical organizations have ties to some Russians handlers. They want America to rot from within.

    Meanwhile...

The incoming Democratic majority in the House of Representatives has the power to open a slew of investigations into the White House and President Trump when the new Congress is seated in January, and early indications are that Democrats plan to aggressively take advantage of their new authority.

But the president fired a warning shot early Wednesday morning, declaring he would turn the tables and leverage his party's Senate majority to investigate Democrats if they go that route.

"If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!" Trump tweeted.

Bogging down the Trump administration with burdensome document requests and subpoenas could indeed backfire, political analysts tell Fox News, but there is little doubt that the strategy -- made more viable by heightened partisanship and loosened congressional norms -- would impair Republicans' messaging and even policy goals for the next two years.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who aims to reclaim the position of House speaker when her colleagues vote on leadership roles in the coming weeks, recently seemed to threaten to use congressional subpoenas as a cudgel against the White House.

“Subpoena power is interesting, to use it or not to use it,” Pelosi said at a conference in October, referring to the authority of House committees to summon individuals and organizations to testify or provide documents under penalty of perjury. “It is a great arrow to have in your quiver in terms of negotiating on other subjects." She added that she would use the power "strategically." (Trump has flatly called Pelosi's plan "illegal.")

DEMS RETAKE HOUSE, BUT GOP EXPANDS SENATE MAJORITY -- GIVING THEM CONTROL OVER JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS

On Tuesday night, as it became clear Democrats would retake the House, Pelosi appeared to double down on that rhetoric, declaring that the midterms were about “restoring the Constitution’s checks and balances to the Trump administration."

"In sharp contrast to the GOP Congress, a Democratic Congress will be led with transparency and openness, so the public can see what's happening and how it affects them. ... We will have accountability," Pelosi said.
"A Democratic Congress will be led with transparency and openness."
    — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Pelosi has said that unearthing Trump's personal tax returns would be "one of the first things we'd do" in an interview with The San Francisco Chronicle, calling it the "easiest thing in the world" to obtain them using statutory authority granted to congressional committees under the Internal Revenue Service code. Democrats made several efforts to obtain Trump's returns while in the minority, only to be rejected by House Republicans.

Trump would likely seek to stall those requests with legal challenges, and it remains unclear whether Democrats could publicly release his tax returns even if they obtained them for investigative purposes.

Before a rally in Indiana on Monday, Trump brushed off the threat. "I don't care," he said. "They can do whatever they want, and I can do whatever I want."

Rep. Jerry Nadler, the Democrat who was projected to win New York's 10th congressional district, warned Trump in a tweet his administration would be "held accountable."

"Tonight, the American people have demanded accountability from their government and sent a clear message of what they want from Congress," he wrote. Trump "may not like it, but he and his administration will be held accountable to our laws and to the American people."

House committees can effectively hold in statutory contempt anyone who refuses to fully comply with a subpoena relevant to the committee's legislative purpose and pertinent to its investigation. While criminal penalties, including fines and even imprisonment, are then possible with a judge's approval, separation-of-powers issues emerge when the House tries to penalize a member of the Executive branch.

In 2014, a federal judge denied House Republicans' efforts to hold then-Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of court, saying the move was "entirely unnecessary."

FROM MAXINE WATERS TO JERRY NADLER, MEET THE LIKELY NEW HEADS OF KEY HOUSE COMMITTEES

But even fruitless investigations can beleaguer and derail administrations, and historical evidence suggests they are becoming a popular partisan tool in the lower chamber for that reason.

Research conducted by Cornell University political science professor Douglas Kriner, who co-wrote the 2016 book "Investigating the President: Congressional Checks on Presidential Power," underscores how important control of the House, as opposed to the generally less partisan and slower-moving Senate, is to these congressional probes.

    Video

"We examined every congressional investigation from 1898 to 2014 – more than 11,900 days of investigative hearings," Kriner told Fox News. "What we found is that divided government is a major driver of investigations in the House. This is particularly true in periods of intense partisan polarization. For example, from 1981-2014, the House averaged holding 67 days of investigative hearings per year in divided government, versus only 18 per year in unified government."

KAVANAUGH EFFECT? RED-STATE DEMS WHO OPPOSED KAVANAUGH ALL OUSTED IN MIDTERMS

Kriner added that modern congressional probes seem geared towards "maximiz[ing] the political damage on the White House," rather than producing more substantive results. "Investigations are less likely to trigger new legislation than in previous, less polarized eras," Kriner told Fox News.

President Trump has repeatedly derided the ongoing investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into possible illegal Russian collusion and obstruction of justice as a "partisan witch hunt," saying it's fueled by Democrats upset that he won the 2016 election. But it's not clear how effective those attacks have been: An August poll showed that 59 percent of registered voters approve of Mueller's investigation.

SECRET WATERGATE 'ROAD MAP' COULD OFFER GUIDANCE FOR MUELLER PROBE

The House Intelligence Committee’s top Democrat, Adam Schiff, already has warned his party would relaunch the Russia probe in the House with Democrats in charge.

“We will be able to get answers the Republicans were unwilling to pursue,” he recently told CNN.

    Video

Democrats have an array of potential avenues of investigation to pursue aside from Russia. In September, a federal judge ruled that Democrats have standing to sue Trump over potential violations of the Constitution's Emoluments Clause, which ostensibly precludes the president from accepting certain foreign favors. While the legal argument that Trump is violating this clause by maintaining lucrative and profitable overseas investments is far from settled, Democrats' pursuit of this line of argument offers some clues into what their investigations might focus on.

University of North Carolina Law Professor Michael Gerhardt, a constitutional expert who testified during impeachment proceedings of former President Bill Clinton, told Fox News in an interview that Democrats might focus on Trump's financial ties to Saudi Arabia.

"It is possible — would not be a surprise — if there were some interest in exploring the president’s Saudi connections or finances," Gerhardt said, before adding: "It would also not surprise me if the Democrats did not pursue these things."

TRUMP: SAUDI ARABIA DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO USE US-MADE BOMBS IN YEMEN

The killing of dissident Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate in Turkey last month led to heightened scrutiny of the past connections between Trump's business empire and the Islamic country. The president initially condemned what he characterized as a rush to judgment against the Saudi government, before saying that its agents had apparently engaged in the "worst cover-up ever."

Trump has tweeted that he has "no financial interests in Saudi Arabia," and there is no evidence that he currently does. However, he has repeatedly touted his real estate deals with the country, saying at a 2015 rally that "they buy apartments from me" and "spend $40 million, $50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much."

    Video

In August, Axios published a spreadsheet circulating among Republican circles on Capitol Hill documenting possible areas of focus for Democratic investigations. They include the White House's revocation of top former officials' security clearances, Trump's unreleased tax returns, and the administration's proposed travel ban and a prohibition on transgender individuals in the military. Other topics on the list, which Axios said originated in the office of a senior Republican lawmaker, are Trump's personal iPhone use and his personal payment to porn star Stormy Daniels -- a move that implicated, but did not appear to definitively violate campaign finance law.

Frequent Trump critic Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., said in an interview last week that Democrats intend to "exercise oversight over the executive branch the way the Framers intended."

NAVY SEAL MOCKED BY 'SNL' FOR EYE INJURY WINS HOUSE SEAT

He went on to mirror Pelosi's threat: "We would be able to get Donald Trump's tax returns to see if he's being influenced
by foreign entities. ... We can call in the secretary of Homeland Security [to] ask her why she still has hundreds of children she has not reunited that she ripped away from parents at the border. There are a lot of things that we can do with our oversight responsibility."

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee ranking member Elijah Cummings, D-Md., who is poised to become the committee's chairman, offered another possible angle in an interview with The Hill. "I want to look at what President Trump has done, aided and abetted by the Republicans in Congress, to tear down the foundations of our democracy," he said.

Republicans who control the Oversight committee have rejected more than 50 Democratic requests for subpoenas of Trump administration documents, covering everything from the White House's decision not to defend key provisions of ObamaCare in court, to perks used by Cabinet members.

    Video

A particularly prominent possible investigation would revolve around Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, which critics have cited as potential obstruction of justice in part because Trump acknowledged that Russia-related matters were on his mind at the time.

“The cover-up is always worse than the crime, and this one is very shady,” Andrew Hall, who represented a top adviser to then-President Richard Nixon during Watergate, said in an interview. Hall has maintained that Trump will "undoubtedly be impeached."

However, legal experts, including emeritus Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz, have said that penalizing the president for firing an FBI director who serves at his pleasure would be unconstitutional, and others have pointed out that Comey's firing would have done little to halt the Russia probe generally.

TRUMP QUOTES BEN STEIN, SAYS MIDTERMS WERE A 'TREMENDOUS SUCCESS' AS GOP EXPANDS HOLD IN SENATE

Mueller's findings, which are expected to be submitted to Congress in a matter of months, might provide a launching point not only for further investigations but for even impeachment proceedings.

    Video

"Impeachments tend to be driven by particular events that are instances of grave misconduct — not liking someone or being an opponent is not likely to be enough to get the whole process started," Gerhardt told Fox News.

Such an escalation, analysts warn, would potentially pose a risk to Democrats. "I don’t think there is something as well developed as a tradition not to seek an impeachment when it appears conviction is unlikely or unthinkable," Gerhardt added. "Nonetheless, I think there is always awareness of the possible risks of seeking an impeachment when conviction is impossible."

Handling many of these congressional inquiries will be the new White House Counsel, veteran high-powered Washington lawyer Pat Cipollone, who will oversee an office that dwindled from a staff of approximately 50 to fewer than 30 in recent weeks. That headcount is expected to expand significantly in the wake of Democrats' House takeover.

"He’s very talented and he’s a very good man," Trump said last month, referring to Cipollone. In a campaign email in the days leading up to Tuesday's vote, the president made an impassioned effort to cut down on Cipollone's workload, saying Democrats are interested only in "vicious obstruction and mindless resistance."

"We can only imagine what they’d do with legitimate power in our government," Trump said. "We can’t hand Democrats the keys to Congress. We can’t go back.”

Igor Panarin, Head Of Russian Information Spetnaz

    Joel Harding

Patch of “Information Special Forces Association”
According to a riafan.ru article, Igor Panarin, Игорь Панарин, is the new head of the Russian Information Spetnaz. He later posted the article in English at: http://www.infospecnaz.ru/en/2018/10/16/the-united-states-may-disintegrate-soon-the-expert-named-the-date-when-the-fate-of-america-will-be-decided
Igor Panarin posted the article on Facebook, so he is at least aware of the article and is not denying the stated fact.

I sent him a public note, “Congratulations, Igor! When were you put in charge? Where is your office?” I wanted to both congratulate him and find out a little more about his new position.
    Update: I received a response!

September 7, 2018 – here is our website on HTTP://www.infospecnaz.ru/en/memorandum-on-the-establishment-of-the-information-special-forces-association/

    Synopsizing the paper: Purpose:

A). Counteracting the use of information technology to promote the ideology of terrorism,

B). Neutralization of information and psychological impact aimed at eroding traditional spiritual and moral values,
FROM). Increasing the effectiveness of prevention of offenses committed using information technology, and counteracting such violations,

C). Effective counteraction to the use of information technologies for military and political purposes that are contrary to international law, proceeding from the fact that mutual cooperation will contribute to the improvement and enhancement of the effectiveness of their activities, acting within its competence,
Bottom line: it appears to be defensive only and focuses entirely on cyber.

This concept has been written about before by Panarin, Moscow outlined ‘information spetsnaz’ techniques over a decade ago, Shtepa says.

I already reported that Panarin’s 2008 paper was analyzed by Timothy L. Thomas in his 2012 book, “Recasting the Red Star”. In his paper, Panarin wrote of ‘Information Commandoes’. This eventually changed in Panarin’s writings to Spetsnaz.

I wrote about this at least twice, previously.

If Igor’s new role represents a new capability, he would most likely report to Vladimir Surkov in President Putin’s offices.

Igor Panarin has historically been the head of the diplomatic school at the Russian Foreign Ministry (MFA). If his office has not changed, that would mean the Russian MFA could now be considered a warfighting entity. This would deal a severe blow to Russia’s diplomatic corps.

If, however, he is using the word Spetsnaz to mean “Special Purpose Forces” and retaining his role as in the CSTO, this would indicate a purely cyber role, as he is the head of CSTO’s cybersecurity program. This would indicate a cybersecurity role, which is purely defensive, and would not be considered a warfighting office.
Another possibility exists, however. If the office were to embrace any hacking capability, this would be considered offensive in nature by some and would again bring shame to the Russian MFA. That was the conundrum NSA had when the US formed the US Cyber Command, it required a totally separate ‘entity’. The MFA may have to form a totally separate office if Igor has any offensive capabilities.

The United States may disintegrate soon: the expert named the date when the fate of America will be decided

    16 October 2018

Professor, Doctor of Political Sciences, member of the Academy of Military Sciences, head of the Information Special Forces Association Igor Panarin gave an interview to the Federal News Agency . The backbone of the structure of a special information assignment he manages is scientists. At the same time, the name and logo on which the bat of the UN GRU emblem is surrounded by olive branches of the United Nations, refer to military-political terminology.

A political analyst told FAN about the specifics of information weapons and offensive operations, about allies and opponents on the fronts of the hybrid war, which, he said, is in full swing. The expert shared his plans for conducting a hybrid war for schoolchildren, spoke about a possible civil war in the United States and about the prospects for Eurasian integration.

    “Identify fakie we never teach”

The “Information Special Forces” will be engaged in scientific and public work, preparing public reports and conferences on hybrid war technologies, combining traditional methods of warfare with information propaganda technologies and psychological influence in the media and social networks. Another direction of the association, according to its founder, will be training programs.
“We have plans to organize courses, conditionally,“ advanced training ”in this field. Three levels are important: high schools, universities, and employees of state institutions or structures that deal with information and international relations in the business sector. These are not only press workers, but also departments of international cooperation, communications with government agencies, ”said Igor Panarin.
Learning technologies of hybrid war, in the opinion of the scientist, can be in some sense compared to computer literacy courses, but instead of primitive viruses and malfunctions, students will have to master methods of detecting and neutralizing complex, often hidden, information attacks, “stuffing” false facts and multi-level information campaigns.
“A virus in a computer is easier to detect than fakes. The latter is not taught anywhere, there is no school. We want to actually do universal education in a good sense of the word. We want to show that there are rules in this area, there is an attacking side, what it wants, what models and methods of protection exist. When I gave a report in Minsk, the head of a very serious Belarusian structure approached me and told me: “After your speech, I began to look at things differently, I didn’t even pay attention to some moments”. Although the person was of a mature age, ”shared the expert.
The lack of education in this matter, according to Panarin, is associated with the relative youth of the very phenomenon of hybrid warfare. The appearance of the term he refers to 2005, when it was first used by the current US Secretary of Defense James Mattis , who then commanded the American Marine Corps Division in Iraq.
“The focus of this concept is literally the last two or three years for which it entered into active use. Here we need a system of multi-level work, which is not yet, because the phenomenon appeared relatively recently. We need research papers, public reports, research laboratories in this area, which should produce recommendations, ”the FAN official said.

The world is brought to collapse

One of the most outspoken fake campaigns, Igor Panarin, calls the play with the poisoning of Skripale and the second action that followed it, allegedly with the participation of Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov .
“The operation with Scriphem is, in fact, multilevel, but at the same time virtual. Let us recall the story of Litvinenko: at least they showed us how he was dying in the hospital. Now they simply told us that there was such a fact, but, most likely, it was simply invented, ”the political scientist notes.
Igor Panarin, following a multitude of experts, noted the obvious fabrication of the accusations of Russia in the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and drew attention to the need for a quick response to such injections.

“The danger is that tomorrow we can be told: they say, some person or state committed some kind of action and they need to be punished for it – and this will be the reason for real, possibly military, actions. But then we bring the whole world to a potential collapse, because there are sensible leaders, and there are those who can act inadequately. This line can quickly erase, and then the whole world will become a victim of global catastrophe, ”Panarin said.
According to the professor, the history of the supposedly poisoned Skripale should primarily be used to analyze and develop rapid response schemes for such provocations at all levels.
“This is a whole science – analysis of such situations and quick response to them. It is necessary to create algorithms, teach, publicly discuss, create an expert pool, hold conferences, round tables, make recommendations in order to create a defense system against hybrid warfare weapons. Because, I am sure, in the near future, its heat will only increase, ”said the FAN source.

“We are all the time on the truth, not on the lie”

Speaking about the success of Russia, Igor Panarin noted the obvious progress of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the use of traditional methods of warfare in conducting operations in Syria.
“In a military sense, simply fantastic results: in operation in Georgia in 2008, 5 of our bomber planes were shot down in 5 days, and in Syria the same amount was shot down in three years, including provocations, that is, minimal losses. The reason is the filigree work of the Main Intelligence Directorate. Why is the main attack on the GRU in the Scripals case? Because the GRU played a key role in Syria, ”the political analyst noted.
An expert from the Academy of Military Sciences explains this, including work with the GLONASS system, when the use of modern navigation systems made it possible to conduct bombing from a safe height for airplanes, while maintaining accuracy in hitting targets and avoiding civilian casualties.
“We showed the result, in my opinion, better than the Americans in all local wars of the last decade,” the FAN official said.
At the same time, the expert recognizes the need to develop a system for using information weapons and defense equipment in the event of such attacks, which are now actively used in the West.
“This information has been passed before, and recently they even admitted that the 77th brigade (British Army cyber division for monitoring media and social networks and psychological methods of warfare on the Internet. – FAN note ), 2,000 troops, just think “These are the ones that work only with Russian social networks,” the expert said.
Panarin spoke in favor of targeted blocking of individual Internet resources and users in social networks in order to protect against potential information attacks. However, massive restrictions should, in his opinion, be avoided.
“We can’t, as in China, turn off entrances from Britain to Russian social networks. The Chinese have taken the path of completely limiting global Internet resources, they have only their own social networks, but they have been doing this since 2003, that is, this is already a built-in system. Under this system – if we want to chop off everything – there must be our own, Russian networks. We have “VKontakte”, of course, but this is not enough, ”the political scientist noted.
The head of Infospetsnaz suggests, in response to the aggressive agenda of the Western media, to more actively form its own, to cover positive information campaigns at the international level and to “hit the painful points” of opponents, using, among other things, historical facts.
“Did the English kill the Irish?” After all, most of all in the United States by the number of descendants of German colonists, and the second place is the Irish. Why? Because they were destroyed by the British, they were starved to death – and they left for America. This is not a fake, this is a historical fact, why do not we remember about it? There are many such facts from the history of Britain, the professor notes. – We can not invent fakes, it is contrary to our mentality. But, from my point of view, there must be an offensive line – it needs to be planned and carried out not sporadically, but systematically. ”

“My forecast for the elections in the United States: 65 to 35”

Panarin spoke separately about the ethnic composition of the population of the United States of America: a professor races interracial controversy as one of the reasons for the possible collapse of the United States. A political analyst has repeatedly, since 1998, analyzed the prospects for America’s possible collapse due to its impressive external debt and internal contradictions.
“The probability of the collapse of the United States remains. The first trend is guessed correctly – I then pointed out the financial and economic aspect. When I spoke about this 20 years ago, the foreign debt was 2 trillion, and today it is more than 20, that is, over these 20 years, foreign debt has increased more than 10 times. And it is clear that the dynamics are negative, all attempts to solve this problem were not crowned with success. Therefore, the forecast is correct, – explains Igor Panarin. – The second trend: I wrote about the inner ideological split – and it is present, it has already become an axiom. Today, the contradictions in American society are intensifying: racial, economic, and spiritual. “
Among the reasons that could provoke a civil war and the collapse of the United States, Igor Panarin notes the active opposition of the white and African-American population within American society, as well as the conflict of various political and economic views.
“There is a simple situation: some people want national capital to develop, production in the United States, and the second, financial speculators, want to earn interest by taking production to other countries and having profits from it. But the first ones understand that in this way the territory of the USA will degrade and someday it will lead to an explosion. They say: it explodes! And others say: yes, it will, but only when we are rich, and we will not care anymore, ”says Panarin.
According to the expert, the United States may disintegrate in the near future.
“America’s fate will be decided in November. It will begin to fall apart or not, depending on the outcome of elections in the United States (in the House of Representatives and the Senate, scheduled for November 6, 2018. – Approx. FAN ). If we take the elections of 2008, 2012, and 2016, then it is easy to see a clear dichotomy, ”says Igor Panarin.
According to the political scientist, the preservation of a single state will directly depend on the victory of Republicans loyal to Donald Trump and their majority in the US Congress. In the event of victory of the members of the Democratic Party, which is represented by including Hillary Clinton , Panarin does not exclude armed conflicts among the population.

According to the latest polls, security forces, most of whom support Trump, can protest against the possible victory of the Democrats. And other groups, including bikers, who are resolute and uncompromising in expressing their opinions.
“Trump for America is her chance at salvation. He is struggling with London bankers through the suppression of the dollar and the potential elimination of the Federal Reserve System, that is, in fact, follows in Kennedy’s footsteps on the way to creating a national currency. Kennedy created the “red” dollar, stamped it, but then was shot and eliminated the dollar. Trump wisely does not announce this in advance – he is trying to maneuver, to tack. Today, my forecast is 65% of votes in favor of the Republican Party in the elections to the US Congress. If Trump loses, then there should be an impeachment, the resignation of the president and the victory of another group of forces, ”said the political scientist.

    “Eurasian Russia”

At the same time, the Russian Federation, as opposed to the United States, has every chance to strengthen its position in the international arena and even merge with other states. Igor Panarin spoke about the truncated version of the Soviet Union back in 2006.

According to the scientist, the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine can join the united Eurasian state. Moreover, a political scientist does not exclude Ukraine from the possible composition of Eurasian Rus even taking into account the events of recent years.
“Today we can still build this joint state. The five already exist – this is the Eurasian Economic Union, there is a movement within this direction. For us, of course, number one is a union state with Belarus. We have already created an economic framework, but in order to talk about closer integration, we need efforts in the Russian-Belarusian direction. We can smooth over the situation in Ukraine through the maximum rapprochement with
Belarus – by showing that we live better in the Slavic area, ”suggested Igor Panarin.
The head of Infospetsnaz considers the example of the Republic of Crimea another means of returning Ukraine.
“Look at the Crimea – well, it is clear that there is not only a bridge, there are real changes for the better. And this is not a fake, this is a real picture. When you arrive in Simferopol, you see: the road has already been built, there are 15 new reanimobiles at the ambulance station. It should be shown to the Ukrainians, ”said the professor.

Despite the aggressive anti-Russian propaganda, in Ukraine there are many sensible people who can make adequate reasoning, the political scientist believes. According to Panarin, among his subscribers in social networks, Kiev steadily holds the third place after Moscow and St. Petersburg in terms of the number of readers: residents of the Ukrainian capital actively browse and put likes on news that doesn’t fit into Ukrainian ideas of truth.
“The struggle for Ukraine, for the minds, for the mood of the people will continue. Well, then, we are one people with them. For hundreds of years it was a single community, we are very closely intertwined. It is clear that part of the population is saturated with propaganda, but I am sure that this is the smaller part. We should not transfer this negative to the entire population, ”the expert concluded.

Around 6,000 people have signed a petition to sell the “useless” state of Montana to Canada for a whopping $1 trillion to “eliminate the national debt” – which is actually well over $22 trillion.

We have too much debt and Montana is useless. Just tell them it has beavers or something,” reads the Change.org petition. Additional reasons provided by supportive petitioners include the state’s “insignificant population” and their “aesthetic” which some claim isn’t in keeping with the rest of the US.

Also on rt.com Free spirits: Mysterious iceberg water heist from Canadian vodka company baffles firm While the accusation of being “useless” may offend some Americans, it seems Montanans know when they’re not wanted, and are actively supporting the sale by expressing their joy at joining Canada with none of the moving expenses.

Honestly most Montanas are totally OK with this let’s do it I’m fine with being out of this hellhole,” wrote one petitioner. “Montana will get legal weed, health care and decent hockey. It’s a win-win,” added another optimistic supporter.

I’ve been a resident of Montana my entire life, and quite frankly I’m sick of the US’s complete and utter disregard for human life. I’ll take Canada’s health care, education, and freedom over the US’s money grubbing system. Also, Canada gets all of Glacier Park and some of Yellowstone,” lobbied another petitioner.

In what might be the most surprising love match of 2019 so far, it appears Canada is also happy to adopt the state.

Montana and its people would be a beautiful addition to our beautiful country. Welcome!” wrote one enthusiastic Canadian. “Dear Montana, we love you but we can’t afford that. Ditch the USA and join us for free. You don’t need that much debt,” wrote another.

Also on rt.com Canada between rock & hard place over Huawei ban decision, as Boom Bust explains Several other states were suggested as possible sweeteners for the Canadian deal, including Wyoming and Idaho, because “nobody cares about them either.” Minnesota was also mentioned, along with California – which is allegedly pushing up the national debt with “all those wildfires… let the queen deal with it,” commenters said.
