    Default A posting policy

I'm posting this here, and will await final word from Ryan and Brian to verify I'm right on this.....

    More on the "smart meter"

Obama has called for the installation of 40 million smart meters in American homes. Advocates say that could be a key to long-term conservation and efficiency.

Smart meters, which enable two-way radio communication between the utility and monitors in the home, offer consumers real-time info on their energy usage.

Vector, et al, I'm going to ask that people start grabbing the ENTIRE article and posting it now, along with the link.

Don't just post links any more.

Today I've come across at least three links in different threads that have been posted in the last couple of days.

The links now connect to NOTHING - or they have been "archived" so that the general public can no longer read them.

So... grab articles, lock, stock and barrel, post the author's name, the date of posting, the full article (minus ads please) and any other pertinent information related to where the physical location of the original article is.

    Also the original link.

Too many of these things are starting to vanish, once posted for a certain small contingent of people to read - so that those of us fighting this crap can't point back to the source of the article I think!

The left in the world are good at Conspiracy Theories. Now they are utilizing some of their own tactics (claiming the other side uses those tactics) to HIDE their true intentions.

The article in the quote above disappeared already and is no longer available to the general public.

    I agree with Rick.

I'm almost positive I have never posted a link with no article.

Plus it's highly annoying to have a poster post a link to an article that he/she thinks is important, then have to go to the article.

I figure the article is more important than the link - so post the freaking article.

Yep, I think that is a great idea Rick. It will ensure the information is always available whether or not the link remains good. If authors or owners of any articles have problems with us having an entire piece, they can always contact us to have it removed and it will be as we've done in the past.

You guys are correct, if they update the info the link gets changed too. I have seen many updates in one day. I will try to be more thorough.

My issue is two-fold. Reading at work, a massive amount of stuff is BLOCKED (including now, the American Radio Relay League!!!!) and some news sites, but not all of them.

The second one is that some of the links were either wrong or the articles have been moved (At least one stated it was "no longer available" and we only had a clip).

If we're posting news articles, I think the news folks can just go POUND SAND I won't remove their stuff.

    They are NEWS PEOPLE.

Give me a break. Freedom of speech? You want it? USE IT. If you're being provided the by line and a link to the original, they can stfu.

I agree. Link + complete text.

We're not big enough for them to worry about yet.

Had a thought this evening, what about videos? Those are equally if not more likely to disappear.

Is there anywhere to re-host them where they are "safe" or possibly upload them here? (If the site has the bandwidth and storage capacity)

We've talked about that. Haven't made any firm decisions.

A recommendation in the meantime is to upload videos you don't want to disappear to LiveLeak. Video is much less likely to get deleted on there than on YouTube.

Well.... it costs money and space to host video. LOTS of space.

I'm reluctant to even bother doing my podcasts partially because of the costs it imposes on a server.

If we could come up with a way to do it... perhaps we could talk offline on that one.
