Somebody has to see if they can find a higher resolution image of that.
I think it's an image artifact. A habitat is much more fun to fantasize about through.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."
-- Theodore Roosevelt
Matteo's explanation sounds plausible and may be verifiable. I wish I could look into this more but I don't really have the capabilities to do so. Malsua may be on to something as well. Personally I think this is on the surface, I'm pretty sure I have seen something similar on Mars in other images but have no way.to prove that.
You can see the red "stripes" in the image and the video narrator talks about them as well. I think those stripes may be dirt and dust that has collected in the depressions of the object. I could also go all Hoagland and say this structure is able to raise and lower itself through the surface and that's where the dirt came from. I prefer my first explanations though
" go all Hoagland"
Hoaglandised.
I wonder if it is too late for this years Dictionary?
"Still waitin on the Judgement Day"
The image shows sand blowing around rocky structures. The other thing isn't ON the planet. It's an image artifact, or something between the camera and Mars.
